"A local shelter that provides refuge and services for victims of domestic abuse and was the beneficiary of a sold-out fundraising dinner held at the nearby restaurant just before pandemic-related shutdowns began." - Ari Weinzweig

I have mixed feelings. When I was being financially controlled, they could not help me even pay a $20 phone bill so I wouldn’t lose phone service when I was in UM Emergency Room. I filed a Personal Protection Order through Safe House and after five weeks it had not yet been served to the perpetrator. I’ve sought services through them at various times and in multiple ways over a 15-year period and here’s my overall review: Safe House doesn’t adequately train staff OR support survivors in a trauma-informed way, and has a lot of room to grow.

I can't forgive them. They didn't check for a available room. Gave me a screening. Said no room for me. She dropped the call.

I was denied help after disclosing I had been abused sexually and physically. I made them aware I fled from Georgia and my son and I have been sleeping in my car for a week. The lady told me I needed to call back in an hour to get the decision. I called back and was declined without any explanation so I asked for the manager and was sent to VM the person who made the decision whose name is Megan or Danielle who is the coordinator. It is cold and snow on the ground and instead of allowing my son and I a place they declined me. I’d like to also add I asked if they had beds, she would never answer she stated it was based on my situation. I let her know o have no family nor friends due to the situation with the abuser. I mentioned i originally was apprehensive about contacting them being the article written about the so I went back to the abuser again but later came back to Michigan and decided to actually give them a try being I was out of resources. There is definitely something up with this place being there is no reason they should have declined me a stay and I’m sleeping in the car with my 5 year old.

Wish they hired people who actually care about helping others instead of selling them dreams. Overall I did majority of the things myself which I should have anyways but my advocate was terrible and she Definitely has a lying problem. I asked to switch advocates they wouldn't. She never met with me weekly and I felt as if she didnt care about my needs. She'd schedule to do something with me then just bail on me and act like everything is cool. I just got my apartment and I asked my advocate to help me get furniture and she told me she was too busy! She hasn't helped me with anything she helped me with one major thing that was it a bill other than that she sucked at giving resources and helping. They need to hire people who aren't rude and disrespectful this is a domestic violence shelter they don't know our situation or anything but got the nerve to be rude.

Very disappointed in SafeHouse Center in Ann Arbor, Mi once again. I do have to say that when I was going through my divorce, they helped me incredibly, especially the support group, and the legal advocate program. However, because of my disabilities, I was unable to stay there long-term and had to stay at the Red Roof Inn - they do not accommodate people with disabilities well. Last year, I tried to volunteer with them and found that they do not work well with disabled volunteers, either. I made some suggestions, but they were not open to them. Finally, assuming I might move that winter, I let it go. I applied once again this year and after discussing with them options again that would accommodate my disabilities, they turned me down with regrets that they were unable to work around my disabilities. Now...I don't have extreme disabilities, it's not hard to accommodate me...and I made suggestions, I was even going to donate accessible hardware to them. But alas, they do not embrace able-ism, which is a shame. Being turned down as a volunteer because I have a few minor special needs? Not cool for a non-profit organization. I am an intelligent, compassionate, loving, experienced, valuable person...they are missing out big time. I'm very sad that I cannot reach out to the people that could use my help due to a few minor disability issues.

There services are seriously biased! But our society doesn't recognize men being victims! So it only makes perfect sense why they don't assist men from their perpetrators! Their mission and vision are surely lies! Their services are only for women spite what their mission and vision for abuse victims state on the home page! It's really sad in a sad pathetic sort of way that they feel it's ok for men to be abused but not women?! That nullifies their open ended mission spoken generally as if they assist women and men of abusive partners! Unfortunately that is the farthest thing from the reality of this establishment/non-profit organization. It's sad to see our society come to this level of audacity! They say men can get victimized but not women?! It's what it is I'm guessing! And don't think if your a man getting assistance in any way from them that they won't turn on you and assist the victimizer over you in court to process a termination order that was originally granted based on gun violence threats on the male victims life!! And also don't think that Washtenaw county won't allow the victimizer to continue to victimize by destroying your personal property and don't do anything to prevent it! And they will not take a police report from the victim against the victimizer for doing so! Washtenaw county is truly a victimizer supporting county if the victimizer is the woman and her family!!! Maybe female victimizers will read this and with the county of Washtenaw can continue their victimizing men together!!! And to any of my statements i have proof which includes the victims dialogue through the email process trying to get the victim to stop!!! That's also Ypsilanti Michigan police for you doing it Detroit criminal strong out here!!🇩🇪 A brave new world we live in! But the fact of knowing they'll help the woman who's the victimizer get the PPO terminated is horrible to say the least! Ask me how i know!!! The same victimizer who was a narcissist and borderline sociopath that caused thousands in damage; but that's evidently what they do out here?!? Hopefully that isn't the same way everywhere for men!?!

Yelp
I was privileged enough to work with Regina during a personal ordeal a few years ago. She was an excellent educator and advocate for me in navigating the confusing judicial system to help me stay safe and protected. I am so grateful that we have this resource in Washtenaw County.

Yelp
Safe House is a resource for women who are victims of abuse. They can provide shelter for a woman and her children, and they accept donations of new items (such as diapers and baby food). They can also provide counselling and court accompaniment so you can appear in court with a support system. I have not stayed with Safe House, but I have called their hotline in the past. You can call them 24/7, and they are incredibly helpful and wonderful. They are empathetic and compassionate, and most importantly supportive and not condescending at all. You should not feel scared to call them for help because they are completely confidential. While Safe House supports battered women, I think it is a misconception that those are the only cases they provide support for. If you are experiencing any level of unsafety in your relationship, they are a great resource for you.

Yelp
This place is terrible and its infested with bugs!!! They talk about you not being in a realtionship that's controlling but yet they're controling your every move! The room they gave me was horrible it was bugs all over the beds. Mode all in the bathroom. The carpet was disgusting bugs crawling all over the carpet as well when you cut the light on bugs was crawling all over the room. That place reminds me of the show Bates Motel! I would never ever go back there again and I wouldn't recommend anyone else going there if you are needing shelter go someplace else!!!
