I don't know if I've been in a store more dedicated to the concept of punishing you for trying to shop there as this one. They keep making it harder to buy your items, such as they have anything you want on the shelves.
Originally, they just had far too few people to ever staff all of their checkout lines. Then, they installed self-checkout lanes, but most of the time at least a third of them are out of order. And then they said "no you can only do 15 items or less" at self-checkout and now usually the only non-self-checkout lane open is *also* "express". Many common items are locked away in the front now and the process for getting them is absolutely unhinged and requires (a) going through one of the one-or-two open employee-run checkouts, (b) you to be midway through checking out, and (c) a several-minute process where the employee has to stop what they're doing (checking you out) and go get a key, unlock the case, let you grab your item and you go back to the checkout line where everyone behind you hates you now, while the employee goes back to return the key before coming back and finishing your checkout.
And now they have guard rails around everything where you feel like cattle being shepherded around; you have to scan a receipt to prove you bought something so you're allowed to exit. All this I've written while the cop cam shouts at me that they're watching all of us in the parking lot, for my "safety", as it says. I've heard it blaring late at night nearby from my house, too, which is just awesome.
When I moved into this neighborhood around 30 years ago, I remember a great fanfare about this store opening, for most folks I guess it was a sign of neighborhood improvement. Now it's just... a shame.
