Cops Seize Cocaine-Filled Banana Shipments to Three Washington Safeways | Eater Seattle

"At the Woodinville Safeway, produce staffers spotted suspicious-looking packages in banana shipments and called the police, leading authorities to confiscate about 50 pounds of cocaine—roughly half of the more than $1 million worth seized across Safeway stores in the region; the boxes were traced to a third-party distribution center that services 144 stores, and King County spokesperson Sgt. Ryan Abbott remarked, "Somebody messed up." - Gabe Guarente

Very pleasant people. Nice fresh, good fresh fruit and vegetable selection. The steaks look luscious. Will be back in a few days to pick up stuff for a barbecue. Very good. And helpful. I must be looking lost 'cuz people said what are you looking for and help me find what I wanted.

The groceries and bakery products at Safeway are fresh and in good value. This is our go to place to purchase food and drink in the neighborhood. The staff are friendly and nice to the customers. The pharmacy here is a plus and convenient.

Google
This is a awesome friendly Safeway.... I drove from Renton to work in the Redmond area and unlike other stores in Redmond, The self checkout worker was very nice & helpful. She didn't prevent me to cash out so she can check my items while following me around making me feel uncomfortable like the Safeway in "LAKE FOREST PARK" In Bothell

The Deli Manager , Nubia, created 3 fabulous trays of sandwiches for my Morher’s Celebration of Life on June 8. She went above and beyond using some recipes I had created from previous parties. The sandwiches received rave reviews from my guests. Thank Nubia for a job well done! I am truly grateful-Cynthia

I love this place, come here almost daily

Google
I went in expecting the usual: fluorescent lights, the faint scent of slightly sad produce, and the existential dread of picking between twelve brands of ketchup. What I got? I'm pleasantly surprised. Good quality produce here. I found a banana that was so perfectly yellow, it made me question my life choices. "Why aren't I this vibrant?" I asked myself, holding it aloft like a tiny, potassium-rich trophy. The bakery section? It's like a sugar-fueled fever dream. Huge selection. swear, they're baking happiness in there. The beer aisle lacked diversity. Not everyone likes IPAs. Imports should include more European brands, me thinks. Overall, Safeway is where you go for groceries and leave with a smile, a sugar rush, and a slightly concerning level of affection for a banana. Four stars. Would shop again, if only to see what other produce-related epiphanies await me

It’s fine. A regular grocery store. Nothing too fancy. I’m still sore that they took away the hot soup bar.

Yelp
I have to give a shout out to this Safeway and their bakery, especially after the Haggens in Woodinville was a complete bust....this place came through with shining colors! I came in beginning of April (after a horrible experience elsewhere) and needed two cakes for back to back weekends. I had no idea what I wanted for one cake and gave a generic "geometric" theme, and for the second I had a very specific design in mind....a Unicorn-Spider-Man cake. After talking with the baker she said she'd do her best and I left the rest to trust.....and she did not disappoint! For the ambiguous cake, she nailed it with exactly what I was picturing (but couldn't explain) and for the other - she certainly did her best and it was perfect for the party! Granted I had to re-create the eyes myself (my daughter wanted scary spider eyes and not cheery unicorn eyes lol) it was otherwise perfect. Both cakes were ready on time and devoured shortly after. Shout out to the bakery at Safeway!

Yelp
Besides being the high priced spread in town, their customer service at checkout leaves a lot to be desired. This morning I was greeted in several aisles by vendors who were restocking their product and they were cheerful, friendly and helpful. However, at checkout with the Safeway employee, that was a totally different story. There was only one, very tall, large man checking folks out this morning around 9 AM. He had about as many personalized and positive behaviors in customer service as the self checkout machine. Actually, thinking about it, I believe the self checkout machine would've been a better customer service experience. At least there the expectation would be that I would bag my own groceries and load them into my cart, without any personal contact with a Safeway employee. This checker rang up my groceries, bagged them, and left them sitting on the counter. He couldn't even make a move to take a few steps to load four bags and a potted plant into my cart for me! Either this man does not enjoy his job or maybe he was missing his morning coffee? Either way, he would be better off finding something else to do in the morning before his cheerful personality kicks in and where he can represent Safeway with a little less disgruntled behavior.

Yelp
Extremely rude and confrontational pick up service personnel. Managment has zero customer service skills.

Yelp
This safeway is bigger than what I'm used to. Hence it does have more selection. The hours though isn't as late as the one in Duvall but that's okay. The staff are pretty friendly. Will definitely come back here.

Yelp
As a former employee of this franchise, I have some unbiased comments to announce. In an official data shows Safeway/Albertson inc. ranked #12 on the best retail companies to work for in American corporation list. In fact, this whole business has slowly gone downhill. I remember once there was a crack in the ceiling, and the vice manager seemed kind of ignorant but shoveling " not my problem" until the roof finally collapsed. They cut our regular pay to cover the repairing cost. We were assigned to multitask, stocking the shelves, pushing the carts from the parking lot, etc. These employer lacked basic necessities for the people who work for them. I mean, you were trained to do your job, not just stand by and watch. Overall, I'm so glad to leave there or at least transferred to another department.

Yelp
As supermarkets go, this is a nice one. I especially want to mention the bakery. I can honestly say I've never had better cakes from any supermarket. They make beautiful cakes that are always lighter than they look. Similarly, for supermarket sushi, it tastes fresher than I've had at other stores. I'm glad this is my local place for groceries.

Yelp
I want to like this store because it's convenient, but it's after getting quite rundown inside, and often the "fresh" items in the produce and bakery aisles are really not great at all. I wish there were more hand sanitizers available around the store for customers. Also never seems to be staff around to ask for assistance, but at least they are friendly when someone is available. Good parking available. Safeway in general also has good coupons for those registered online.

Cheryl L.

Yelp
If I could give the bakery no stars I would. I ordered a 1/4 sheet cake and when I went to pick it up they had made me a 8 inch round for a birthday. They were rude and told me that is what I had ordered when they had clearly marked down the wrong sized cake for my order. They said they couldn't make another they didn't have time. It was for a birthday. No apology it was like they were mad at me when it was clearly their mistake. The thing that made so mad was there was no apology. I will never go to that bakery again.

Yelp
It happens nearly every time I go to the Cottage Lake Safeway! I purchased $120 worth of groceries and was overcharged on 4 items. Why can't they get their ads to ring up correctly??? I was overcharged for the Ocean Spray cranberry juice by $2.02 each and overcharged for the Oreo cookies by $2.50 each. That's nearly $9. It strikes me oddly that they can track EXACTLY how many of the sales items people purchase but they can't change prices in the middle of the day, (even after the mistake is pointed out to them) and they can't refund the error to the THOUSANDS of customers who were charged incorrectly! Albertson's used to give you the item for free if you were overcharged; now that they're part of the same corporation do they still do that? I'd really like to know! I think they should be required to do so, maybe they'd make sure their stuff rings up correctly!!!

Yelp
This store opened when I was in 5th Grade, and we've been regular customers ever since (30+ years). I moved away for awhile, but have been back for more than a year. At first I thought it was a fluke when I got a rude checker. Maybe he was having a bad day. Or maybe he's always like that, but it's just him. But I've come to realize over time that SO MANY of their employees are super rude. The absolute worst is the heavyset guy with dark brown hair (I think his name is David). He has been an outright jerk to me every single time I've encountered him. My sister also watched him physically manhandle someone's child - aggressively. She even told the manager about it, but he is still there. There is another guy who always makes me feel like I'm putting him out, and he'll literally NEVER fix the price of an item that doesn't ring up correctly. He'll just take it away. There is at least one other male I've found to be consistently rude. There are 3 women I've also experienced negative moments with. One who is a checker, one in the deli, and one in the pharmacy. I haven't seen the pharmacy one in awhile, but my dad actually switched his pharmacy away from this store because he said the pharm. technicians were always so rude to him. And he is someone on life-saving medication who needs ready access to his prescriptions, yet he now chooses to go out of his way to go somewhere else. Aside from all the rude employees who have no idea what "customer service" is, the store is just okay. It's pretty small, so doesn't always have a great selection. They are often out of things I went there to buy. They are overpriced, as well. The only thing that makes them worth going to is location. The next nearest store is 3 times farther away. Whoever is in charge here, you need to seriously rethink your staff.

Yelp
What a weird place. The guy manning self checkout was just yelling at himself scaring everyone he's been there forever too creepy place avoid

Yelp
This Safeway is okay. If it's not the Starbucks taking 20 minutes to make one americano, it's the deli with food but no utensils... Lunchtime rush should be excepted and they should be better prepared. I went to ask the sushi chef for a utensil because the deli people were too busy to answer questions. I soon learned that the sushi chef is also too busy to be bothered so expect a very rude response if you have any questions. In all my years of working customer service, whether it's your department or not, the worst, laziest answer one can give is "I don't know, it's not my department." So a big "thank you" to the very unfriendly sushi guy and a big "thank you" to the deli department for not being prepared during lunchtime rush. I only have 30minutes for lunch and I get one lunch a week where I get to eat out...and I made the mistake of wasting time coming to this Safeway when I could have gone to a more competent establishment. I almost forgot I was in Woodenville, you could have fooled me and told me I was in Downtown Renton with the kind of trash service I received today.

Yelp
Honest and observant. I rarely get cash back, but today I pulled out $40 in the self check out and accidentally walked away. Sharon tracked me down as I walked out (i was standing in the Starbucks line...) $40 bucks it's the end of the world, but she made a huge effort to return my money. Greatly appreciated.

Yelp
Wednesday night I ordered two party trays for Sunday. Thursday I called to verified they tecieved the order, I never trust automated things. They hadn't so the gal was kind enough to take the order again. Honestly often times when I pick up fruit and veggies trays, I am prepared to be ho-hum about them. We picked up the trays and I was blow away by the quantity and the quality of the trays. Great job deli, keep up that excellent work, I will be recommending you to others!

Violet M.

Yelp
I was a bit lost today looking for some items I don't normally purchase. However I didn't even need to ask for help, because Patrick noticed I was looking a bit lost and offered right away, he not only helped me find the first item he helped me with a few more as well leading me to them! Never had such wonderful kindness and mindfulness in a grocery store, Nancy in the front was also wonderful!

Gerri C.

Yelp
I have been a patron of this store since it opened. I only now use it because there is no other store close by. The deli takes so long or ignored. And sometimes the sale price does not go thru. The Pharmacy says they take walk ins for vaccinations only to find out it is up to the pharmacist whether they want to give the vaccination or not. The day I walked in for my vaccinations at 4;00 they chose not to give me mine. The person right in front of me received his, so when I was not able to get mine I was a little irate. I always get a lot of groceries when I go shopping, so I go thru the cashier lines and now I am expected to bag my own groceries.

Richard Z.

Yelp
Went here for a flu vaccination with the expectation that it would be a quick process. They promised that those with appointments could skip the line. I had an appointment but still had to wait in a long appointment line. Turns out that the line they were referring to was the walk in line. I don't really understand why there's a long line for appointments.. if you end up having to wait 35+ mins, what is the point of an appointment? If I was 40 minutes late to my appointment they wouldn't accept me, so why is it okay the other way around? For reference I got to Safeway at 11:55 for my 12pm and left at 12:40. The staff were really nice and we're trying to go as fast as possible, but the whole experience was pretty frustrating. The people behind me and in front of me were waiting even longer than me, so I'm not sure what was happening.

Yelp
Prices seem a little high and as the only Safeway for a fair ways, they can be pretty busy, but this is one of the nicely remodeled stores. The staff here is outstanding; they were running a great special on Coke products over Memorial Day and not only did they waive the limit for me (I had no idea how many the limit was -- it was supposed to be 5 12-packs with a free 24-pack of bottled water for $10 -- but they said, don't worry, get as much as you want), they actually went into the back of the store to fetch me an entire cart of my favorite diet root beer. The guy was super-nice about it, and even though I am not at all feeble, he insisted on helping me load it into my car -- and then wouldn't take the $2 I tried to give him. (And I NEVER let them help me out to my car, so the whole thing was new on me.) The produce is pretty good, the hot prepared food is delicious and the gal behind the counter was really generous in the sample she gave me to let me try the fried chicken, and the bakery items were clearly fresh (the loaf of bread that I bought was still warm from the oven). I'd shop here often if it were close to my house.

Always H.

Yelp
Close by so I want to like this grocery store. Reality is their inconsistent and overpriced. Not the first time I have purchased something that is expired or moldy.
google avatar

Elaine K.

Yelp
I usually come to this Safeway when I am back either from Bothell or Woodinville and I really like this store. It is never too busy and it is a little bit bigger than the Safeway in Duvall. Do, it is a nice choice for people who lives and Duvall in case we cannot find what we are looking for in town. The staff is fine, it is just like any other Safeway. Sometimes we encounter really nice people, sometimes not so much, but I don't even bother to be stressed out. It is not the best customer service, but it is far from been the worst. Sometimes it takes a while until we can find someone who can help you though. I will definitely come back here soon and I am glad we have this Safeway location

Yelp
Frank was rude. He was very sarcastic when i asked if he was open. Was not sure because there were other lines with multiple people in them and none in his line didn't want to start piling stuff on belt just to have him say he wasn't open. He checked out my stuff in speed and was throwing stuff in bags and the tossing it on the other side. Some of which was produce which i hope isn't bruised because of it. Also wasn't helping me load anything in cart until someone else came in line then he huffed talking to himself say god knows what and slammed my items into the cart. I've never felt so rushed and like I was a burden for going into someone's line. I give you three stars because usually I don't have issues with this store. But if it was dependent on this visit it would be one star only because you had all my items.

May B.

Yelp
This is a pleasant little store located in an area where there are few other options close by. It feels smaller than a lot of grocery store and tends to be pretty quiet. Always very clean. As other reviewers have mentioned, the staff aren't overly friendly, or available. Still, if you're in the area, there tend to be few options to choose from.
google avatar

Kyla M.

Yelp
The night manager at this location leads with the most outstanding customer service ever. Every time I see him (and I shop frequently) I can tell he's busy doing this or that, but he still never hesitates in passing to ask me if I'm finding everything okay or if I need help finding something. Very impressed in a world where service is slowly dying. Pat is a gem and we could all learn a thing or two about never being too busy to acknowledge each other!

Donald Z.

Yelp
This store is hit or miss. The counters are underserved more often than not. Checkers are pleasant. I do not recommend the deli...it's a ghost town. Microbrew selection is decent. Produce is either great or terrible, very little in between. Wish the overall experience was better, as this store is so close to home.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm writing this review for the entire store, but specifically for the pharmacy. Here goes... Safeway in Cottage Lake is the go-to place for anyone living in the region. First, the staff at Cottage Lake Safeway are so great. SO. GREAT. They remember people's names, ask how people are, and go out on a limb to help customers find what they need. The hometown feel of the store is always heartwarming and appreciated. The store is clean, organized, and well-staffed. If you live nearby, you should shop here. Our family specifically loves the pharmacy. This dedicated team of pharmacists, techs, and clerks, has been an amazing asset over the last few years for my family and for friends who have had very serious illnesses. People, these pharmacists care. They go above and beyond. Transfer your prescriptions here. Do it now.
google avatar

Aash R.

Yelp
The staff here is very racially biased. I was waiting for a self checkout kiosk and there were 2 queues for 2 separate set of kiosks. When my turn came the staff managing the kiosk told me to go to another queue when the gentleman who was in front of me was allowed to checkout without any issue. Even the others around me felt confused and kindly asked me to skip the line and go next, which was very kind of them.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
I don't shop here too often, so it'd be helpful to take my review with a grain of salt. I liked the size of the store, it was extremely spacious, and the aisles were clean and wide. It truly felt like a grocery store to me, and didn't feel cramped, or that typical-fluorescenty store, if that makes sense. The prices were about average to me, although the cheapest place to shop is at the Albertsons (14100 Block NE Woodinville-Duvall RD, Woodinville). The bakery, deli, and produce sections were far above average however, and the food tasted awesome there. Great place to grab a meal, or a quick chicken dinner. This location also has a Starbucks, for added convenience. Great store, and I'd recommend it for anyone who enjoys shopping, and doesn't mind paying a little extra.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Sadly, the quality of my once-favorite grocery store has plummeted in recent months. I have a suspicion the dairy is not being held at the correct temperature, as their milk (and not the milk from other stores) consistently spoils well before the expiration date. Produce is even worse, as many of the leafy selections like chard and leaf lettuce are usually already turning black and shriveling at the edges on the shelf. Frequently out of stock on staple items--on my last trip, for example, they were out of ground pork and bags of yellow onions. I can be loyal to a fault when it comes to my 'usual' stores, but it is time for me to find a better place to shop.

Yelp
I wouldnt even give this place 1 star. I accidentally purchased a pre paid phone card 2 days ago. I go in today to "exchange it" but was denied.. I had receipt in hand. They said it's posted everywhere.. I see products everywhere.. Not that a simple card cant be returened unused..This is the 2nd time this store has not tried to help. Stupid manager should be fired from EVER working at a retail store doesn't know anything about customer service..
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
I only give this a 1 star because they have not fixed the diet coke machine in months! When I asked someone about it they state "well, it works for a while and then it doesn't". We can't really figure it out. It's nice to shop in this store with some fluids on board but this is ridiculous. Please folks, help me not to spend $2.49 at Subway because you can't figure out how to fix a soda machine. Just plain silly. Other than that, the store is very nice, but I won't retract this until someone gets on the ball and fixes their machine!

Yelp
I ordered a baptism cake for my son almost a month in advance. The cake specialist that helped me over the phone was very nice and extremely helpful. But the night before the baptism I drove from monroe to pick up my cake to find red frosting roses on the cake making it look like a funeral cake! The notes say "all white." I was terrified! The baptism was the next morning. Then the lettering I requested in brown was in black. All the bakery specialist were gone for the day so I had no choice to take the cake the way it was. A nice guy gave me a $5.00 discount, but no amount of discount could make up for such a terrible error. What are notes for if you don't follow them?! I had to scrape it off and add fresh flowers the morning of. There needs to be better communication in that department.

Yelp
This store is very conveniently located to my home so I'm here often. The store is clean, well lit, staffed with friendly and helpful workers, usually well stocked with what I need. I have 2 issues. 1. Need more workers. Sometimes I need help and it can be hard to find someone. 2. Fried chicken should be fresh, succulent, plump, not dried up, stringy, and scrawny. Each time I buy fried chicken I learn all over again that I should not buy it at Safeway. Maybe they cook too much at once and it sits too long under the hot lights. Maybe they overcook the chicken which seems to be smaller than average size. They need to figure it out. The old and long gone Albertson in downtown Woodinville was able to do it right, always great fried chicken. They had the cookers right behind the fried chicken in the counter. Yum. Sometimes I had to wait a few minutes, no problem for fresh fried chicken. And one more thing. Corporate headquarters should give local Safeway managers more control. Anyways, I'm grateful to have this store so close.

Yelp
Came to Safeway this morning to get some groceries, the lady at the self checkout was rude ! My self checkout was not weighing the items correctly and this woman comes to the checkout yelling 6 feet!! Do you not know what's going around in the world !? Excuse me! She comes to my self checkout yelling 6 feet when she could've just said excuse me. There was no need for her to yell. And after that she completely left the self checkout area when others needed her help. Horrible customer service ! Why would you work around people if you are not willing to help? I am very upset about today's experience.. please do not hire workers when they are not willing to work around people. I felt so disrespected !

Brad C.

Yelp
Cheaper, though not by much than our only other option in Woodinville, Haggens. I bought 6 apples at $1.79 a pound on Saturday. Every single one was rotten inside. I had stopped buying produce here because of poor experiences in the past. These apples looked good, felt firm, and i thought it was a good buy. I'm going back to the store to see if they refund. Even if they do, it's just such an unpleasant experience going there. Why can't we have a QFC!?!?!?

Reno M.

Yelp
I have ordered Safeway online for the 6th time and every order I had to call back to complain that I ordered something and it was not delivered nor substituted yet I was charged for it. I ordered 2-loafs of safeway bread and they delivered four. I'm a single guy who can't eat four loafs of bread. I ordered two 8 or 10 " tortillas and they gave me one that I ordered and the second they gave me taco shells. The two worse things that happened this time and it was the worse. The person I was talking to make the complaints told me basically I was lying and that I ordered everything I was complaining about. She was very rude so I hung up and called again to reach hopefully a more professional clerk. I finally did get a nicer person and he deducted the items I did not order and items charged yet not received however, he could not help me with the worse of the worse experiences I had with safeway online. I started my order on a Tuesday I believe and I wasn't finished because it was late. The next day I get an email flash from safeway stating "DON'T FORGET TO PLACE YOUR ORDER LEFT IN THE CART" or something like that. So I went back online, added a few other items and went to the checkout and paid for about $250 worth. Anyhow when I got the order in I immediately as always started to check off all my groceries. After awhile I noticed all the prices seemed rather high like shrimp I ordered for $16.99 was on sale and I was charged about $24.99. Then after I checked everything I concluded I paid full price on everything which I never do because I'm on full disability with a limited income. I asked the person I was talking to that was nice and told him I didn't realize the items I ordered went off sale the day before. I asked him if he could make an exception because safeway got sneaky on me to finish the order and did not mention that the items I ordered were no longer on sale. He stated sorry their is nothing he could do. I ordered only one time with Amazon Fresh however everything I ordered was in my bag and the order was shipped on time. Bottom line is you are no longer my store both online and bricks and mortar. Ohh and my new name for you is Non-safeway and I'm going to give Amazon Fresh all my further grocery orders. Thanks for the bad experiences and believe me I will share my experience with anyone who will listen.

Yelp
As far as location, this store is easy to get to. No crazy navigation through a badly planned lot like at some places. I don't really shop at their deli but I've found their produce section adequate. Speciality items are limited e.g. Sun dried tomatoes. They only had one. Liquor section isn't too limited and at times they even have tastings. Ice cream selection offers many varieties especially local brands like Snoqualmie. Express checkout is great and rarely do I have to wait long. Personal checkout is friendly. Download their app so that you can pull up their coupons.

Peter F.

Yelp
Over the past 2 years there has been a significant decline in produce quality and selection. Everything looks the same and quite mediocre in freshness, size, and taste. It's as if it all comes out of a large factory and looks the same. Once in a blue moon we find a tomato that actually tastes good, but its rare. We are almost forced to shop here sometimes when in a hurry because we live just down the street. We have made the mistake of buying "fresh" meats and seafoods here about five times in the past year when short on time. 3 of the five times we had to throw the meet (pork chops) or seafood (crab) in the trash because it just tasted bad. Not expired bad, just bad sourcing and quality. On the bright side, the experiencing of suffering through this store's produce makes us appreciate actual fresh produce from other stores or markets much more than we used to. My advice is to drive down the street to PCC on Avondale, all the produce, meats, and seafood all taste just so much better and we have rarely been let down. Unfortunately that's about your only nearby option. The old Top Foods Kroger in downtown Woodinville is no better than this decaying Safeway. Unfortunately this mediocre everything is the trend in all the big biz owned grocery stores these days. Their business model depends on you getting dumbed down and forgetting what great produce and fresh meats and seafood taste like. Make the effort, find a better alternative. Your tastes buds will reward you! Two stars since the employees at this Safeway have always been very kind and helpful.

Yelp
It is unbelievable that at 6 pm there is only one person working in the deli. What is happening with Safeway's customer service?
google avatar

Eneri S.

Yelp
They've got a deli, pharmacy, floral, hot foods and bakery. One stop shopping. I always find nice, helpful employees. Been shopping here since I moved here in 1995.

Neal B.

Yelp
One of the worst grocery stores. Deli counter people hate their jobs, most limited choices on the shelves, buy three of something there is never space on shelf for three items-ever, customer service desk or help with locked liquor is a rarity at best. I've walked away twice now waiting for help. You can tell it's a poorly managed store from the time you walk in to the constant waiting at check out. Nothing ever changes. Been visiting the store for decades only when needed because of location.

Yelp
First of all, the staff at this store is amazing! So friendly and helpful it is amazing!! The seafood and fresh meat is horrible!! The store seems a bit cluttered and dirty. The bathrooms are really, really dirty and horrible. The produce is not always fresh and it is hard to get anyone to help you. The only reason I stop by is because it is close to my house in case I need something I can't get at PCC. I also rent movies from here too.

Yelp
I grew up going to this store. This is the place we used to get our groceries at for our meals, regular and holiday ones. I went here to get snacks for at home movies, sleepovers, you name it. It's nearby, it's convenient, and it's got decent prices. But the quality of the products AND staff have REALLY plummeted in the past year. The bakery goods are not as great, the Chinese food at the Deli has gone down in quality. Too often will the rice be too hard, too salty, or the noodles severely undercooked or overcooked. I have had bad stomach issues whenever I ate their sandwiches lately as well. I didn't say anything or do much about it for the longest time but today I'm putting my foot down. I went to purchase a baked chicken. I had always relied on safeway for a whole baked chicken now and then, they use to be good. But when I went home and opened it...it still had the feathers on it. Think of the deep nasty black heads you pull out of your face and that's what it looked like...but worse. It wasn't just a minor mistake this was someone who did not give a flying shithorse when they cooked this chicken. Skin was burnt, it was slimy, the feather stumps were ALL over the drumstick part. It was revolting I couldn't bare the smell of it. I returned the chicken and all they did was give me back my money. No apology, no no one giving a crap about anything, and no one checked the other chicken. DO NOT BUY THE CHICKEN!!! I'm angry that County Market in Down town Woodinville is going out of business when they have never once had a flawed gross chicken like this, and yet safeway flourishes. I do not support safeway anymore. If you don't believe me on the chicken I will send you a picture!

Yelp
For a grocery store, Safeway is the best...better than QFC, Albertson's, etc. Their produce is pretty good with decent pricing for a grocery store. Ideally, a natural market is my preference but I'll go to this Safeway after getting off work. The remodel is great and makes the store much more appealing and easier to find items. Staff is very helpful and very friendly unlike other store chains that seem a little "ghetto". Environment even if it's at a grocery store makes all the difference. The Safeway brand runs a quality business. Great job Safeway!

Yelp
Went to Safeway for pectin, which I spent about fifteen minutes looking for before asking a store clerk. He didn't know what it was so he asked someone in the floral department who said it was next to the sugar; I had already scoured that exact area for it. He didn't walk me over to where it was supposed to be. I went back over to the isle with the sugar again and spent ten more minutes looking for it before leaving. Safeway has become the McDonalds of supermarkets. If you want something quick and don't care about service or selection, Safeway is for you.

Yelp
The employees here are great. The store is clean. So why only two stars? The prices are high (no doubt because it's the only store in the area, otherwise you have to drive all the way into Woodinville center), but mostly because the produce section is TERRIBLE. The fruits and veggies are often not in stock or very low, the lettuce is often turning mushy red, the prices are high (1.99 for broccoli per pound? I used to get it at Freddy's regularly for 99 cents a pound...Apples are always 1.99 a pound or more...), the selection is poor (it's as if Swiss chard simply doesn't exist). How I wish a QFC or Freddy's was nearby.

Yelp
Not sure what all the negative reviews about as we frequent this safeway about every week (family of 5) and have started their grocery delivery service, outstanding place. Is every visit perfect? No, but I wouldn't go to any other grocery store.

Yelp
This is a great store with a very friendly staff. The deli has good deals on rotisserie chickens and take and bake pizzas, which come in handy on busy evenings. The bakery has excellent fresh bread. The pharmacy is very convenient, too. For folks who live on this end of Woodinville, having this one-stop supermarket nearby is a lifesaver. Although I've also shopped at TOP in downtown Woodinville, sometimes weather (snow or ice on Woodinville-Duvall Road) makes it tough to get out of the Cottage Lake neighborhood.

Yelp
They didn't have any of the bottles of juice you can get for $1 if you buy a breakfast sandwhich, so the manager let me pick out any juice in the store for free. Great customer service.

Yelp
Where to start... ....ok, first the good: it's a 5-minute drive from home, so convenience, right? Wrong. ....there's no such thing as a "quick stop" for basic items: they're always (ok, maybe not at 7:30 in the a.m., but I wouldn't know about that) short-handed at the registers, and at least one (or more) of the self-checkout stations are broken or out of operation. ....Today was the worst: stuck in line at one register while someone ahead in line brought everything to a halt trying to use multiple checks to pay or something -- whatever it was, EVERYTHING stopped. I mean, for 15 minutes. Seriously, 15 minutes. I was already into the magazine & tabloids section, with more shoppers stacked up behind me, so I was kind of trapped .............At about the 10 minute mark, I lost it and yelled that they should start another register (or two!!) since this one was apparently terminally jammed. ....................That got me dirty looks from the cashier AND the manager, who was now on the scene trying (and failing) to assist. When FINALLY things got moving again and it got to be my turn to check out, the cashier was all tight lips and death-ray vibes, and THREW each of my items onto the counter after scanning it. Oh really: one non-standard payment and your whole effing operation FALLS APART, and now I'm the problem? Oh but wait -- there's more: .....they never have the "better" brands (well, they do carry Muir Glen, also Ben & Jerry's, that's about it) .....I have several times bought items and got 'em home only to discover their "best by" dates were two weeks ago ------------------------ once, it was an item from a big, holiday-specific (I forget now which one) promotion, y'know, where the products are arranged in a small mountain right at the entrance to the store? THAT one was MONTHS out of date! .....always bought one of the salami choices at their deli counter, and always remarked how much we liked it -- boom, suddenly it's "discontinued" -- OTHER Safeways still carry it, but not THIS one. Well, folks, I *could* go on, but I'll let someone else have a turn...
