I visited Safeway Store #1917 on May 26 while in town for the day to go blueberry picking. I do not live in this city, but stopped by to purchase a few items. Unfortunately, my experience at the checkout was disappointing. The cashier, Elizabeth, was cheerful and engaging with the customer ahead of me, but when it was my turn, she didn’t say a single word, avoided eye contact, and showed no response when I thanked her after paying. She came across as cold and unprofessional. If there had been a customer service survey at the end of the transaction, I would have given her a zero. Her behavior left a very negative impression of the store.

Shopping at Safeway is always a pleasant experience. Today, I needed to grab some last-minute party snacks, and the store had everything I needed in one place. The quality of the snacks, as well as the fresh fruit and deli items, was excellent. The customer service was also top-notch, with employees offering assistance whenever I needed it. Safeway's prices are competitive, and with their deals on bulk items, I felt like I was getting great value for my purchases. Safeway is always my first choice for groceries!

Great sandwiches from the deli. Just don't try to order one. Its the last area of priority for the store. You can stand by for 15 minutes while they fill salad bowls and add Jojo potatoes. Then, at conclusion of their break, it's finally your turn to order

Two stars only because cashiers and stores clean. The three star knock off was because customer service at deli and customer service didn't know what to say when I had a rant...was not rude I was just hungry I guess...was at the deli waited 2 minutes...4 workers were there...all made eye contact noone said anything and went to the back...they are busy I get it...CUSTOMER SERVICE. Just tell me be there in a minute or be right back...I have worked at walmart AND safeway...this isn't first time had to deal with rude deli workers...good thing I wasn't a secret shopper... I don't think they even do that anymore 😕

What a beautiful experience to walk into a grocery store where every staff member has a genuine small town smile! The store had everything I needed and if you sign up for the rewards program you can get some savings that will also go towards your Gasoline discounts. Thank you to the Discovery Bay Safeway crew! Very poor management and customer service. I went to the supervisor watching the self checkout and asked her why my purchase did not get credited to my Safeway account that was only a few points away from getting the next gas discount. Her response was "We don't have anything to do with that, you will need to call customer service. Instead of just refunding me and then recharging it so it would show up in my points balance, she just blew it off and ignored me

I have no complaints! Everyone from the deli department, floral dept, cashiers and bakery department is super nice. The store is always nicely stocked. One of the nicest Safeways in my opinion!

Employees are great. The store itself.....where do i start? Number 1. TURN DOWN THE AC. Its miserably cold in that store year round. Im not the only one that feels this way. You have to dress for the arctic to shop there. Prices could be lower if they didnt waste so much on pg&e. Second. STOP rearranging the store! Cant find anything anymore which keeps me in the frozen arctic much longer than necessary. Third. Stop discontinuing items. Nearly half of my "normal" stuff isnt even carried anymore. Fourth. Get rid of the fish smell. Fifth......prices are outta control. (But i know this is common at lots of places in this economy) sixth....check your produce more often. So tired of seeing moldy/rotten produce on the shelves. It tends to go bad within a day or two once its home too. Terrible quality. Safeway used to be a decent deal. Ive started shopping winco when im in brentwood now and my bill for the SAME stuff is a third of what it costs at safeway. No exaggeration. I used to be loyal to safeway but its so uncomfortable and overpriced and confusing with the movement of everything in that store im being pushed out the door. Its no longer a pleasant experience at this Discovery Bay safeway. My body still hurts from the cold.

My last review was 11 years ago, I added their app which saves a lot of money and free delivery. A real blessing especially to us seniors. Still on occasion find an error on my bill but they correct with a smile. Fabulous team of staff especially Crystal and Nick. And their deli is great. The sandwiches are enormous and a great price . Great having a wonderful clean store here , plus they are regular donors to the food bank

This review is for the bakery department. I ordered a birthday cake which was a square three layer tall 1/4 of cake. When I arrived for pickup, the cake was not right and it was round. When I told the bakery and showed them the photo of the cake in their display, the other bakery gal said come back in 15 minutes. Sure enough, the cake was ready and perfect: squared three layer chocolate cake with raspberry topping. Thank you Safeway bakery department for making the perfect cake.

UNSAFE Food Don't go here if you don't want food poisoning. Tried to return the non expired moldy cheese they sold me and already expired when I bought it cream cheese they couldn't help me place has gone down hill we pay higher prices here you would think the service would be at least ok

This review is for the gentlemen that was working curbside alone this evening and for him only! I didn't catch his name, maybe Nate? I called to check status on my curbside order because it was running a bit late, he was extremely apologetic and offered to pack mine next. I found out he was working in this department ALONE with a high volume of orders. I can only assume that involves at the very least picking them, labeling and storing and also running them out?? This guy deserves a raise and some help!!!

The Safeway is impecable great service, clean aisles sanitation duties fullfilled. Unfortunately for the Safeway was the STARBUCKS therein. Where do I begin!!? The employee seemed unfamiliar with the items menu. She graciously offered a more expensive drink than the one I ordered as a remedy for her unskillful blunder while she rudely "smacked" her chewing gum at me. The entire time. I thought to myself had I been say the DISTRICT MANAGER of another store district doing a "shop" for the store I should think this child might deem it a favor that I should graciously correct her disgusting behavior. So I did, her end caps were messy and out of place, there was dryed coffee mess on the service counter, she didn't ask my name although she did remember to give my dog his pup cup. I love my dog she gets a pass. Word of advice SERVICE BEFORE SELF that's my mantra perhaps you should leave the chewing gum to breaks and lunches sweetie.

This location is unable or unwilling to enforce the mask mandate that they post on their door. I am fully vaccinated and masked so it isn't about me. I feel for the employees who have to stand there for eight hours. If you are one of the many I see shopping without a mask. Think of the employees, many who are kids and put your "beliefs" aside for 15 minutes and show a little respect and appreciation for someone else. The Brentwoood locations have no problem maintaining 100% compliance

I went to get a sandwich before boating and the lady making my sandwich didn't ask me if I wanted it toasted or not, was so slow making the sandwich, and her gloves were ripped while making the sandwich, she even pulled her strap up while making my sandwich, a guy told her to put a glove on at the beginning. It was like watching paint dry, I could have made my sandwich faster and better. To add to it there were three guys in front of me with no mask on, why is no one Ku Kung them out? The lady also messed up with the barcode, I wanted one sandwich and I got double charged.

The Manager of this store has no clue whatsoever of what Customer Service means. He is demeaning and arrogant in his dialog with customers. Senior Citizen in Pandemic environment could not be assisted. Truly saddened by this stores clearly lack of "customer service" and simple ability to assist or help. In my experience it is a top- down atmosphere that is created. Local check for groceries, bank within shopping center , and they would not allow check due to their store "error ". Insisted I leave groceries, go get cash, and pick up groceries. They have a procedure to call a 1-800 number to clear check; not offered. 80 year old husband waiting in car. Went to bank and they called Safeway store verifying check was 100% good. Humiliated and upset...no offer of assistance. The manager,Vince Gomez, is not worthy of any respect.

My wife was in line at the deli inside Safeway. The deli clerk was helping a customer. When she was done, she turned to my wife and said, "Sorry, we're closed." I asked the clerk what time did they close and she said 8:30. It was 8:20. I informed her of the time, to which she responded, "We're cleaning up early. We are short staffed." She refused to assist us, even though she had assisted another customer just before. I don't know if it was the pigment of our skin, or just plain laziness, but it is unacceptable. I contacted the manager and informed him of the occurrence. He agreed that we should have been assisted. He did not make any attempt to rectify the situation or provide us with any assistance. Terrible service by both parties.

I walked up to the pharmacy counter to look for some medicine for my 12 year old daughter. I stood in front of Pharmacy personnel for a couple of minutes and was never even acknowledged that I was there. I walked around the area there hoping I could find some Medication for my daughter's cold and came back to the desk and still was not acknowledged. The person behind the counter looked a little busy. A simple "I will be right with you" would have been enough to not feel ignored. Recommend customer service training.

Review is on the cashier's conduct. Rude and snobby. I'm buying food for my shop and employees and I picked up some isopropyl alcohol too since we use that daily at my shop as it's integral to the work we do. The cashier asked me if there was a sign that said there was a limit on these. I said there was not a limit but there was a sign that said buy one get one 50% off. She responded by saying "well that's a lot" (I had (8) 8oz bottles) "and we should be leaving some for our neighbors." She then asked if I cleaned out the shelf and I said no, as there were at least 10 left. Remember, they had a sign that these were on sale for buy one get one 50% off. Not exactly the type of sign you put on something you're trying to ration. She then repeated that we should be conscious of our neighbors and save some for other people. To which I responded I use this in my business every day so that I can do my job. And that I normally buy gallon containers from Ace but they were out. And one more time in a very snarky and snobby tone of voice she said "we need to be kind to our neighbors and leave some for them to." Well I only bought what I needed, actually only about 1/4 of what I actually need at my shop, left plenty for others, and got a snarky and snobby cashier chiding me. Your job as a cashier is not to criticize, judge, or lecture me on my purchases. Get off your high horse and do your job.

Using Delivery, this store is unable to deliver reliably. So you pay extra for 1-hour window and they don't deliver at all!!! And they seem to not understand what the problem is if you call in for fresh-pass support. They seem to have a disconnect between Alberton's (The parent company) and the Safeway store in Discovery Bay, CA which manages delivery services. I would not and can not recommend them for delivery services. The store itself seems OK of course. But the delivery is horrible and to take it a step further they use DoorDash to deliver, so if something goes wrong they offer to not tip the driver. (!) How is the DD driver at fault if Safeway messes up the order or the schedule? It's just pretty awful how they manage this particular store for Fresh Pass delivery. If you live in the area, you may want to try one of the other store delivery options in the area. I unfortunately paid for a year of delivery on a discount so I need to let it run out before I can switch. It's just awful, and I needed to vent and 'yelp' about it.

I have to say the meat dept doesn't know to cut meat or the quality of meat as well as the customer services is mediocre to say the least. Doesn't know how to keep happy customers and as a small business owner thats huge!!!!! I bought a filet minion and had as much fat and gristle as a rib eye. I was extremely disappointed and took pictures of the aftermath. When I pay quality price for a lean meat I expect a meat the will have little fat and no gristle as well as being tender. When I cut through the meat I had you could hear the knife cutting through the meat. My daughter complained once before and was told its due to the oxygen hum no I don't think the gristle and fat is from the oxygen. lol I took pictures of my plate and I wish I could post the pics. Looks like I ate a sirloin My suggestion is buy from Brentwood Fine Meats or Raileys if there's a butcher counter.

My boyfriend and I went to Safeway Discovery Bay last night and were next in line at the check stand and a checker opened up a new register. The checker took a couple in front of everyone in line and this couple wasn't even in line. We got in this checkers line after she did this and told her we were next we had been in line a long time waiting. The checker by the name of Kamiko, didn't look up at us, ignored us completely when we said we were next. Her supervisor, Stephenie, 6 inches away from us, heard and saw the whole thing and did absolutely NOTHING but give us a dirty look. I have never been treated so rudely or poorly by a checker in a supermarket before. As far as I'm concerned Kaniko and Stephenie should both loose their jobs. I am contacting a lawyer to sue safeway for racial discrimination.

Seems poor customer service is the norm here and has been for awhile. Since they are the only store in Discovery Bay, I assume they think that it is ok to do business this way. It's been a year now in this community and we have observed poor service and bad attitudes from most employees on each visit. Our last 2 checkout experiences have finally take a new low, with outright disrespect and demeaning comments. We don't go here for a bulk of our shopping, but only for last minute items. But that will change since I don't feel that they deserve to get away bad service and high prices to boot. One other thing we noticed and have been told on multiple occasions is that shoplifting is normal during the evening hours. And that they cannot intervene whatsoever. The shopping center does take a seedy turn at dark. We've seen it and encountered this behavior, so we avoid going later in the evening.

It's too bad this is the only supermarket we have in Discovery Bay. The customer service by some of the employees is great but miserable by others. Bad attitude and inaccuracies from some meat counter staff has resulted in prepackaged meat purchases. Last week I ordered a cupcake in the bakery. New girl back there said she doesn't know how to print a tag and just tell them up front how much it costs. Well everyone has to learn somewhere right? The bad part about this exchange is that the girl decided at that moment to use both of her hands to tie back her long hair then proceeded to touch my cupcake. When the obvious problem was pointed out the the oblivious girl she just put the cupcake back in the case. Watched the tall red haired guy in the cheese department cutting cheese into smaller chunks and packaging. During this time he was rubbing and even slipped a finger in his nose. No hand washing just right back to packaging the cheese. (Won't buy cheese here now). Today stopped in and got a couple of things including a package of ciabatta rolls. Got home took rolls out and there is a huge fly in the package. ARE YOU KIDDING me? We must have better service, food quality, hygiene or some other supermarket chain needs to come rescue us from this nasty ass store.

Starting to shop elsewhere. Prices Way to high. People Stealing from store and very dirty our front. I know many discovery bay residents are shopping elsewhere. Staff seem very unhappy I don't have time to go online and pick all products in order to Get discount. BIG waste of my time. Disturbing seeing people people walk out with carts of groceries. I tried calling Safeway Deli to order a sandwich ahead of time, so I can just drive in and pick it up. I have been on hold for 15 mins and have yet been able to get a hold of someone in Deli department. It seems to play hold music for 5 mins then ring, then pickup and put me on hold again for 5 mins then ring and pickup and put me on hold. Finally got through, the person I spoke with was very pleasant and upbeat. I placed my oder and told me should be ready in 10 mins. We'll see how this goes, but trying to get through to deli took forever. would be nice if you can place your deli sandwich order online and not have to call.

Tom at the deli was AMAZING!! He helped me figure out some last minute things for a barbecue I was attending. He was more than happy to help and even showed me different items to help me stand out from the rest of the guests. I was blown away when I found out that my fresh bread could be cut per my specifications!!! That saved me so much time and mess, thank you so much for this vital information. In the last 6 months this place has taken a nosedive for the worse. Expired items, long lines, scumbag clientele, cash registers crashing on a daily basis, and general filth. I literally dread going here each time I need to run to the store for an item. When at all possible I will not go here and travel further into Brentwood or elsewhere to do my shopping. I predict this place will cease to exist in 6 months to a year. To the very few decent employees that work here I strongly recommend looking for a job elsewhere. This places days are thankfully numbered.

I don't have any fundamental problems with this Safeway. My negative comment would be that once it smelled a little fishy, like the fish in the fish department was old, but I wouldn't expect SW to have the freshest fish on the planet. Also the little sitting area could use a little more cleaning. Luckily, they have a huge hand sanitizing wipe dispenser right next to that sitting area, so you can swab down your hands, table, and anything else you may have touched prior to eating. My routine is, I go in, get my big ass California Dreamin' sandwich, with that salty ass smoked Turkey I just can't quit, no chips or soda, and get rung up at the deli. The Deli ladies are competent, nice-ish, and get the job done. They spread that thick cheese stuff and coat the bread with lots of avocado. I usually don't find many bargins at Safeway, as I am a ardent Grocery Outlet shopper and supplement with natural grocery stores for bulk needs and organic meat, so price wise; I don't see Safeway as much of a value. However, the shopping center and stores withing get the job done. I usually take my sandwich and eat it over at Starbucks because they have outdoor seating and Disco Bay is usally pretty warm. Oh, And YES, this is the cheapest gas around. Always.

I believe the corporate motto for this store is, "Hey where the hell else are they going to shop in Discovery Bay?" Quite often they do not have an item that I need (chopped frozen spinach for a spinach dip, and not even an empty space in the frozen foods, where it would be) or the item is priced ridiculously high. The gas station is another 2 Star story. That place makes me break out in a nervous sweat every time. There is no order here, cars are constantly circling, looking for an available pump, and then there are always big ass trucks, pulling big ass boats taking up 2 pumps, or blocking access. The window squeegee water smells like year old hot dog water. Do they EVER change it? This store needs to be managed better.

This Safeway is HORRIBLE, and doesn't appear to managed in any way. I have purchased expired food at least 5 times in the past year alone, and I am talking about items expired from 6 months ago, 8 months ago. It's disgusting and should be illegal. Furthermore, they don't seem to bother with restocking. I purchased frozen strawberries about 7 weeks ago, and bought every bag in stock-because I know they don't both to restock items very often. But I would think during a 7 week period SOMEONE would check and see that they needed more of an item. In terms of the bagging, they do have courtesy clerks for that, but the courtesy clerks are mostly standing around outside smoking or visiting with friends instead of working. So yeah, you normally have to bag your own groceries there. It's an embarrassment how poorly the place is run.

I have been with Safeway pharmacy since it opened but today I moved to CVS, they have got progressively worst since we lost Jerry. I'm done. For the last 4 months I've tried to get the shingle vaccine with no luck, always out. Moved everything to CVS and getting my shot tomorrow. Safeway foods I'm happy with and will continue to shop there.

This is the WORST grocery store you will ever find. First I want to say that 99.9% of the employees are great; they are polite, helpful and accommodating. However, the quality of the products in the store is horrendous! The produce is the worst you'll ever see. Compare this store's old, rotten & dried out vegetables and fruits to grocery stores in blighted areas and this store's quality is worse! After shopping at this store for 6 frustrating years I finally wrote a letter to the 3 top execs at Safeway (Chairman & CEO, Marketing EVP, President & CFO). Two pages with details about produce, expired products, bad meat, etc. Within a week, I got a call from the Regional Manager in Brentwood, admitting that the store had "issues" and that he was working to get them resolved - "give me a week" he said. A week later there were changes, the lines were longer, I found expired meat, expired milk, and expired desserts in the bakery. Not the changes I was expecting. Safeway has a captive audience in Discovery Bay and they take advantage of it. Shame on you, Safeway!!!

Wow! This Safeway has steadily been going down hill over the past 15 years. Used to be in and out with no issues what so ever due to the fast-paced and knowledgeable staff. The meat department is very good. Every time I've been there the people behind the counter have gotten me what I've requested correctly and quickly. Definitely like that department and are a pleasure to deal with. HOWEVER...... Now it is the norm for this location to have 1, maybe 2 check stands open if you are lucky during all hours of the day. Keep in mind this is with 5-10 people waiting in each line with countless Safeway employees walking around doing what appears to be nothing and avoiding being seen or making eye contact with the large group of people standing in line. I guess being that this location has a self check out options, they assume people will get tired of standing there for 10-15 minutes and use those instead. Only problem being that a lot of the times people are buying items that are not allowed in the self check out. When you finally get your items being scanned for payment, these checkers give the DMV sloths a run for their money for speed. When you ask the Deli employees for items, they just give you that brain-dead blank stare as if I'm asking them to paint my house or wash my car. I cannot count how many times I've had to repeat myself over and over again or speak up when the employees I was just dealing with a minute prior hands what I ordered from them to someone else. Also issues with giving me something different than what I asked for initially. Frustrating to say the least, but I guess with the new norm of not letting your younger staff know that they're doing an inadequate job for fear of hurting their feelings, this is what I guess we can come to expect over and over from this particular location. I guess I'm driving to the Brentwood Safeway from now on. Thanks for nothing Discovery Bay Safeway!

I asked the pharmacist a question because I didn't know the answer. I didn't expect her to smirk and laugh at me because I didn't know. Her condescending attitude certainly doesn't make me want to go back nor recommend to anyone I know to bring their business there. Sad when people treat another person that way.

CHECK YOUR RECEIPT EVERY TIME! I am telling you! We only shop there for little things we ran out or need last minute and didn't get at winco.. We we buy item there it is always 15 items or less and every time (Not being facetious) they either charge me twice on one item or their discounted price does not take effect. So I am feeling like a cheap skate when I ask them to check the price or I go to the customer service desk for a refund on a couple of dollars. The only reason I bought something specific there is because it was on sale! This review only got the extra star because of the convenience of it for us in DB. Really a life safer when I ran out of something or need an extra ingredient.

I must confess, I used to like this store, but last week, I bought a pack of Pepsi, and when we tasted it, it was weird, so we checked the date and it was about 9 months over expired. I returned to the store to alert them they offered refund and gave me replacement pack for free. I contacted their online support, hoping I will get their attention, but the repnonse was this: "Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding the outdated Pepsi at your local Safeway store. We appreciate you taking the time and effort to bring this important matter to our attention and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. As always, if you find that you are not satisfied with any product, please feel free to bring the product back to the store with your receipt for an exchange or refund." So either check the date for everything you purchase from them, or do like me, I don't trust them anymore, cause the one who would leave such expired packs for people, can easily manipulate the dates.

Had a few things to get so thought I'd get in early. Self checked out the grocery stuff but needed something from service desk. 9 am in the morning, few customers around... shouldn't take too long, right? Wrong. Stood there like an idiot while red haired front end person listened to an older employee whinging about some aspect of the job/day she was not happy with. Waited about 5 minutes.... kept glancing over at them (about 5 feet away) to see if one of them was going to assist. Turned back to the counter when convo ended, presuming I would get some help now and that she would return to her post at self serve checkouts. Wrong. Red haired woman walked up to dark haired girl on checkout and started a little chat with her.... not work related.... not important. Blonde girl standing at self serve wandered off, presumably after checking something important in the book (like shift or break). 9.18 at this point...I decided to go elsewhere and left part of what I wanted to buy on the counter, loudly stated "you know what? Just forget it" at which point both the brunette and red head turned to look at me and then resumed their chat. I walked out. I am disgusted by the attitude. I am there pretty much every day buying stuff. Maybe they thought that because I am a regular I could just wait... sorry, but that isn't good enough. YOU people have all day to chat about stuff that has nothing to do with work. Customers do not have that luxury, and if they are patiently waiting to give you some money, which helps pay your wage, the very least you can do is assist them asap. So, safeway can keep their 8 or 9 gas points I earn every few weeks and I'll head back to costco for as much as I can, and shop here only when essential. That will give you guys more time to talk about more non-essential s***. Win win.
