Yelp
Demand for Self Checkout stations at Safeway 231 W Jackson St in Hayward, CA 94544:
Out of the top 50 reviews on Google from the last 2 years, a full 11 complained about long checkout lines, more than 5 of them quoting only 2 cashiers for 30 customers waiting in line.
Every Safeway from the one in San Leandro to San Jose, and every Safeway on the Peninsula, has self-checkout except this one on W Jackson St in Hayward.
As a local who shops at Safeway often, most of the staff are nice and obviously overworked. The onus of this store being poorly run, especially due to the lack of self-checkout, falls on the manager/owner and Safeway corporate for not providing an easy solution, self-checkout, that has been implemented in many stores around this one. A minimum of a few reviews per store can be found on Google citing how great the option of self-checkout is, even if there are areas of improvement.
It's obvious this store is not going to properly staff itself, the way that the Hesperian Smart & Final actually did recently.
Self Checkout implementation is a long term investment that will greatly benefit the customer experience and operations at this store:
1. Some customers, like myself, can speedily checkout instead of waiting for slow cashier lanes
2. Customers will put Safeway back on the same pedestal when it comes to the checkout experience as the local competition: Smart & Final, Target, Cardenas, and Lucky - all of which have self-checkout
3. One staff, once well trained, can manage and enhance the experience of multiple customers without having to do all the work of every checkout
4. Once streamlined, cost of implementing this new technology will be outweighed by the benefits of improved customer experience and lower operation costs
@Safeway corporate, you need to address the following simple question:
WHEN, not if, but WHEN are you going to install the self-checkout stations at W Jackson St Safeway in Hayward? And WHEN will they be available for use by the public?
This will be posted on Yelp, Google, Twitter, and Nextdoor for circulation and sent to your Contact us page until you provide a proper answer and we see the self-checkout delivered to this store.
Sincerely,
Your Customers
