This Safeway is a real weird one. First, the kosher selection is incredible, better than any grocery store I've seen in town. The bread is always great and I usually buy the last day stuff to toss in the freezer. Second, the parking lot is either really sketchy on a bad day or just okay on a good one. I always feel a little tense bringing my items back to my car. Third, the staff is attentive enough and I've never gone in here on a busy day. Heck, I don't know if they even *have* busy days at this location...it's very strange.

awesome kosher selection, super friendly staff!

Google
This place is near a bunch of different busses. It is organized, and clean. This place loses a star because, it's a little bit confusing as to how to get in. The entrances all look like they go directly into the parking garage, so I was a bit slow in actually going in due to apprehension !! Also prices at Safeway are usually a bit high !!

Heather McConn

Google
This store is on a top level and the parking is below. They have this really cool escalator for your carts that will take your cart down to the parking or up to the store for you and the escalator for people is right next to it so you can stay with your cart. The store isnt as big as others ive been to but it still has alot of options.

I was at Safeway deli on Barbur Blvd and asked server clearly that I want mixed 8 chickens which she repeated herself then when I checked it at home, she sold me 8 piece dark meats. This is second time it happened to me here and I felt like she did it intentionally because I was minority customer here. Make sure to check your order before leaving and never trust their servers here. Also these are not chicken but chicks. I never seen fried chickens smaller than these chicks anywhere. Try it yourself.

They returned me bottle deposit without any disrespect or snide comments. Very professional and well tempered was the bottle vendor. Now the guy who was doing the self checkout was lazy and sardonic. His co-worker was slammed with a line. His co-worker requested assistance with my ticket and the self-chexkout guy ignored him and then told me he was going to do this this and that and if nobody has helped me by then he would. 15 minutes later he finally opens up his register And gave me the. Return. I asked for smaller bills and he refused me saying" you get what you get"! I said " excuse me"? He responded that since he had to make sure with what he got so did I. I immediately to the other cashier who assisted me willingly.

Google
There's always plenty of parking, and no matter where you park if you're disabled it's very easy to get to the elevator or the escalator. I always use the self checkout and I always get in there and out of it quickly. Everyone I've dealt with as far as the staff has been very friendly.

Google
I been coming here a long time and I will say ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS. Things regularly ring up not at the sale price or advertised price, even when you add the deals in the app. What really rubs me wrong though is they will charge you for bags even if you bring your own. When I pointed it out, they just shrugged. Ripping off people isn’t cool. I’ll buy my groceries elsewhere from now on.

Yelp
Arrived at the pharmacy at quarter past 1, knowing they close for lunch at 1:30, first person in line, one pharmacist working, finally finished with the person in she stated it was now lunchtime and I could wait till 2, no thanks!
google avatar

Mikhail H.

Yelp
I was in a bit of shock that there seemed to be one person working in here. I needed one thing... Just parking along and then getting up to the store was a lot. Of course, what I needed was then on the other end of the store. The cashier kept sort of walking back and forth almost glaring at me before I was standing awhile and had to ask her to come over and ring me up. Her response was almost, "Duh"... It was just VERY strange.

Yelp
This is my favorite Safeway, it actually lives up to the name! I call the one in NE Broadway and SW Jefferson, Un-Safeway, because you have to step over people to get in, are often accosted, and watch people stealing on a regular basis. This Safeway has none of those issues and for that alone, it made my shopping experience so pleasant. The store is much smaller than others, but for me, I always prefer a smaller footprint as it makes it easier to shop the perimeters which is where the healthy food is located. It's bright, clean, well stocked. The Meat Department definitely has less options but in the other areas, I found what I needed. Beautiful organic produce, lovely flowers, a Pharmacy in the back, a Starbucks when you enter - all the usual suspects. Plenty of covered parking underneath. Easy access to I-5. This will be my go to when I need to run out for an item I forgot and don't want to deal with SW Jefferson. It's just a little further but totally worth it for a safe and pleasant shopping experience.

Yelp
In this day of staying on a tight budget, I turned to this Safeway to feed my group of 150 coworkers for our big meeting. Aarin, the manager with whom I placed my order, did an awesome job accommodating my requests. She made sure everything was ready to go and looking good! Thanks to her, the deli crew, the early morning bakers who made fresh cookies, and the guy in produce who made sure I had plenty of the little individual salads, I was able to feed this group a good lunch with plenty of options for easily 1/2 of what any other place quoted me. And kudos to Malcolm for helping me load 3 grocery carts full into the back of my SUV! Great job! You made a lot of people happy today!

Yelp
This is a normal Safeway. By that I mean they cover the basics very well. This store seems to have staffing issues, however they work hard at making sure the customer is first. The deli is always staffed with at least two people. Teh self -check out is alway available and there has always been at least one lane open that is fully staffed. The deli has a combination of hot and cold food. Be careful when buying and ask when the food was cooked. This is at every deli that serves premade food. The store has a fresh bagel, donut and bread area. That's a plus. There's a pharmacy at the back of the store and a Starbucks in the front, which makes this a one stop shop. The manager works hard to provide a safe environment. I've been onsite when they have asked the panhandlers to leave the premises. They do not approve of the homeless living in the parking lot and aggressively going after customers for money. In order to keep us safe, they keep the homeless out of the under garage. Thanks for trying to make a good store.

Yelp
Covers the basics really well. In a pinch this is an easy spot to pick of few things. Always have fresh fruit and produce. Nice selection of wine and beer as well. If you are looking for basic things they will be here - super specialized things may or may not be! Due to staffing sometimes it is difficult to get help at the meat department - that being said everyone is really very nice that you encounter. Self checkout is available and fast.

Yelp
Two things; The outdoor tables are very dirty. Looks like they haven't been wiped down in weeks. Lots of dust inside the store too. I am done with the pharmacy due to rudeness of the staff and incompetence. In one case I came to pick up my meds and was told the doctors office had not responded to the refill request. No offer to recontact the office. This happened twice. On the third time, despite theirs glares, I kept pestering them. They finally determined that they had sent the request to my former doctor who had been retired for over two years. When he retired I had made it very clear that they purge that contact and send any new requests to my new MD. The vial I brought in for refill even had my new doctors name on it.Complete incompetence. Not the only screw-up either. I'm done with them.

Regina M.

Yelp
Barbur bakery has failed. Ordered a cake by calling ahead. First the lady who responded to my call didn't understand that I wanted them to put a "comma" between "happy birthday" and a name. She asked me to spell "comma". Came to pick up my cake with no"comma" and cake is not there. Thankfully, there was last exact cake as I had ordered in the freezer. Will pass this bakery in the future.

Ned S.

Yelp
My go-to store. The staff are overwhelmingly excellent. Although a medium sized store, I go 3.8 miles to this location over all other PDX Safeways. Yes, Safeway costs a little more . . . the space is clean, the staff listen, the isles are wide, and the service has never been lacking. I'd love to point to one specific party but all their male staff have given their 100 percent.

Natasha S.

Yelp
I had a prescription go over from my healthcare provider... I called because the app wasn't working to check to see if my meds were ready... The woman that answered the phone was so rude and disrespectful ..I decided to send my meds here for convenience.. but now I will be going to a pharmacy further away, because I do not want to deal with that

Susan S.

Yelp
Of all the times that I have called this pharmacy in the past several years, an actual person has only answered once. In the past, when I left messages, I only got a call back once. When I called to get the status on a prescription that was called in for me from Urgent Care yesterday, the phone rang and rang as always. However, the answer machine option is no longer available. It is "temporarily not taking messages'. The caller is asked to call again if they need the status of a prescription. I did call again and of course no one answered. Normally, there is only one person available for customer service in the store pharmacy and the lines move very slowly.I'm planning on switching pharmacies. One star at best.

Yelp
Standard grocery store -- it takes them a while to stock the shelves and often have expired salad bags on shelf...check dates before you buy
google avatar

Yelp
This Safeway is clean and the layout is very organized. I appreciate that there's a private garage underneath the store for shoppers' use. Although products here aren't the cheapest, at least you know they'll be in stock. I can sometimes find good deals using their JustforU rewards account online. These exclusive digital offers are at deep discounts (fruits, dairy, beverages, veggies, etc) designed to get you into the stores with hopes that you buy other items too. I suggest going for their $5 Fridays, which you can research their 'Weekly Ads' ahead of time to find which items are discounted for that day. Then combine that savings with exclusive deals from JustforU rewards to make your shopping trip worthwhile.

Yelp
This is a solid Safeway. What I love the most is that the Kosher section is ample and always well stocked. I have never used the pharmacy so I can't vouch for it, but the OTC and personal necessities aisle is always stocked. I noticed that some products need to be picked up at customer service in the front of the store. The self checkout area is easy to access and use.

Ken L.

Yelp
Rude unprofessional employees Said "excuse me" to one lady and she goes "YEAH?!!???"

Georgiana F.

Yelp
My review is mostly for the order online and pick up part of the store. Honestly, I'm very picky about my meat and produce and was reluctant to let someone else pick them for me. Reluctant no more, Kaylee is a rockstar and always chooses exactly what I would and has excellent communication for substitutions when needed. Thank you so much! Also love Rosemary, I will wait in a longer line when she is working. She always has a smile and is so kind, a gem. The guys in produce are always friendly. Olga in pharmacy is also great. Meat department does an excellent job cutting the meat, not all Safeways do. I go at various times of the day and can't say I could tell you who the manager or assistant manager are. Have been going here for 22 years and its always been that way. Would be nice to see their presence once in a while. Maybe I do but they don't wear uniforms like they used to, dunno. Deli seems to have quite a bit of turnover, but have a great selection and always slice the meats exactly how you want. Bakery always has very fresh French bread type selections, love the jalapeño cheese bagels and the doughnuts. Overall a clean store and pretty well stocked, thank you.

Yelp
I hate the digital coupons. You're in a store that you've used for years and you reach for a product and there's a digital coupon available but since you work for a living and have ADHD you didn't get around to scanning the website for coupons before you shopped, so you don't get the sale price. So, the message from Safeway is: "sorry, you hard working mentally challenged idiot, you don't get the savings. fuck off. PS have a nice day."

Sam S.

Yelp
When we had transportation I was able to shop exclusively at Winco & occasionally Walmart. When my partner was no longer able to drive, this was no longer an option because they are .5 mi from a bus stop & a grueling uphill slog with 85# of groceries. We had to start Grocery Delivery from Walmart but started shopping occasionally at Safeway when it came to getting our vaccines. We now have LIFT rides but before that I was able to complete a shopping trip to Safeway via bus in under 2 hours, as there's a bus stop in front of the store with a bus every 12 minutes. Even though there's only two checkout lanes available most of the time, the cashiers process items rapidly & are unbelievably compassionate & helpful to this raggedy old lady. And the cute, young manager is FANTASTIC. She provided me a chair to sit in outside while waiting for my dab.

Yelp
Worst customer service today than I've ever had at any grocery store. I just waited by the bottle machines for 30 minutes, being told 3 times that they were sending someone down to fix the machine. The 4th time I called, from my phone (the only way to get a hold of someone) I was told that the guy whom the said - 3 times - was coming down, had not stared his shirt yet and it'd be a "bit". When I asked why I wasn't told that 20 minutes prior, the gal on the phone got snippy and was like "I thought someone else came down". Hello?? Why would I keep calling if they'd sent someone else?! Do they not know that all of us that were waiting would end up spending our deposit money on groceries here?! Guess they'd rather we go to Fred Meyer, where I am headed now. Smh..

Yelp
Yesterday I was at this store. Bought groceries and tried to get $60 in cash back. The cashier didn't have any money in his till except for 5's. The cashier asked Alana a manager I believe, if she could get more money for him. Alana went to another employee and ask her to do it. I went to use the ATM while they got the cash. It was at least 5 minutes later and I was still waiting. The cashier asked Alana how much longer is it going to take. Alana looked at me and curtly said "soon" with a smirk on her face. Not, oh sorry it should only be a couple more minutes please be patient with us. Her smart mouth response and attitude was not necessary. I said that's not a very good answer and it's not my fault that she has a cashier open with no money in his till. That set her off. I told her she wasn't acting professional and she said that she is usually professional except when people are being mean and then she continued to berate me. I never raised my voice but perhaps I did have a tone that she didn't like. She continued to act like a toddler vs a manager and yell at me. She wouldn't stop. She couldn't hear me because I wasn't yelling, so I used sign language. Not proud but I flipped her off and that stopped her from ranting. She screamed don't flip me off and ran down the stairs out in the parking lot. I guess to calm down. I've been going to this store for years. Alana usually gives fairly good customer service but always seems to have an "edge" to her. Good customer service (quick and efficient) but not friendly. I hope she is able to handle customers better in the future. Other than this one off experience this is a pretty good store. Clean, not crowded, plenty of parking and good customer service.

Yelp
I don't understand this store. It's very expensive. It's very clean. It's very large. And it's very, very cold - to the point that I could never shop here for more than about 10 minutes.
google avatar

ChadLisa S.

Yelp
Not happy. This business changed it's store hours. They close at 11P now. Not 1AM boo! Now what are we suppose to do!?!? Go to 24hr winco!?! Sometimes it is nice not to have to stop off at a huge store for just a few things. This was a decent small size grocery in which we used it like a convenience store.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
The store looks clean but don't purchase anything frozen. RMSI the retail merchandising company that they hire in Oregon,California and Washington to re organize their freezers has a habit of leaving the frozen products on pallets on the floor for hours allowing bacteria to set in and make people sick. Gross. More people need to report this to the health department. Also ask to see the back rooms of these stores before purchasing anything. If at night and you have a fear of rats it's best to avoid the tour. Any store that refuses the tour should not receive your business and maybe you should look at a Fred Meyer or Whole Foods. Sincerely an RMSI whistleblower

John M.

Yelp
The pharmacy here is truly terrible. The staff is surly and slow. They absolutely refuse to answer their phone and when you call the main store line they either refuse to connect you with the pharmacy or put you on hold until the call times out and you're disconnected.

Yelp
Just opened up about a week ago. They tore the old Safeway down to the ground and rebuilt this store. Looks a little daunting from the street. It's not though! You enter street level parking. Ride the escalator to the second floor and enter the new Safeway. Multiple types of Deli Food, Even a Real Kosher Deli with Kosher Cooks! I would avoid the sushi. I won't trust them again. If you don't know what dry cold rice with crap fish tastes like. Get some. You'll see! The store is big but not warehouse like. Big isles. Lots of great looking vegetables and other foods. Check out was a breeze, even as busy as they were. Then when you leave. They have an escalator for your shopping cart. I sent an empty down for fun. Next time, I'm riding it down!

Yelp
We put in an order of over $100 on Saturday and scheduled the delivery for Sunday. We got a phone call from them saying it would be later than scheduled. Fine. Then we got an email saying it would be delivered on Tuesday. Fine. Tuesday comes and no delivery. Husband contacted them and they say they never got our order. Very upset now. Will never recommend their delivery.

Yelp
I've been counting the days until the new Safeway on Barbur would open. I'd shopped (if you want to call it that), a handful of times at the old one and was happy to see this new structure. I was able to walk here, so no worry about parking, but it looked like a cluster opening day. NEW, NEW, NEW, samples galore. Friendly staff that seemed engaged and happy. I found everything I was looking for, it took a bit of wandering around------and I was surprised no one asked if I needed help finding something. Heck! no matter, I hate asking for help. Almost got drunk at the beer and wine tables. lol. Produce is huge, upfront and somewhat expansive. U-Scans present - no waiting! Starbucks. Extra seating area. Parking structure below looked relatively roomy.

Yelp
I love this Safeway!!!!!! I have been shopping her for years. This is where I do my weekly trips. The store is always clean and bright. Many employees so if I need something, someone is easily found. I use self checkout just because I like bagging my own groceries. My favorite is the under building parking. It's bright, there are cameras and I don't get soaked in the rain loading things up.
google avatar

Yelp
The Safeway pharmacy has temporarily relocated to 8948 SW Barbur Blvd., just down the street from where the store was. They started tearing down the store in August and as of Sept 17, this is the new pharmacy location. They indicated they will be here next to the Subway for about 1 year before the new store is ready to house them once again. This is a cute little facility and what attracted me to this place was they were between the Les Schwab and the Subway, so, I got new tires, had lunch and got a flu shot all in about two hours time. Not too bad for multi tasking. They were quick and verified my information and then gave me the shot. This location mostly deals with shots and prescriptions, however, they do have a rack of over the counter remedies as well a large rack of gift cards for numerous places available for sale. Great for the quick stop. I'm sure I'll be back.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
This is not the same store that was here a year ago. It is big, beautiful, well stocked, and has ample parking. With the store on the second floor they have added an escalator for your grocery cart so there is no log jam at the elevator. Where I live, there are 8 grocery stores within a 3 square mile radius (not including the plaid pantry stores). That makes for some tough competition. This Safeway has a large selection of organic produce but it isn't local. There is limited organic meat. The wine selection is ok, but nothing too exciting. Plenty of checkers waiting to help me buy my food. Asked if I needed help finding anything no fewer than 5 times. Announced a Friday special-ground beef for $1.99/lb. Overall, this is what you would expect from a new Safeway. What used to be "world's saddest Safeway" is the new nice Safeway on Barbur.
google avatar

Yelp
Valarie at the checkout this morning 9/20/18 was awful and really had an attitude that just put a sour taste in my mouth about safeway. I've had a bunch of bad attitude cashiers but she was the worst I will now be spending my money at fred Meyers every morning the convenience isnt worth having to be treated like dog crap! This isnt the first time I've had to deal with Valarie and her shit attitude either I think you guys need to stick her in the back or have her stocking at night because she doesnt belong in customer service!

Yelp
If you need some kosher food this is the supermarket for you!!!!!! When I moved to SW Portland from SE I was in heaven! A grocery store that carried tons of kosher food less than a mile from my apartment. (I keep kosher at my apartment so this is a huge deal) The whole bakery is kosher! That means kosher rolls, donuts, cakes, cookies, breads etc. They have a kosher deli! Finally some fresh sliced deli meat instead of that old package stuff. Kosher hot bar and rotisserie chickens. Lots of choices for fresh chicken, meat, and fish. A whole freezer section of kosher items, although can you please lower the price of the chicken nuggets, $19.99 for one bag is a little crazy. They have cholov yisroel dairy items if that's important to you. So besides all the kosher stuff the store is pretty clean and well stocked. However, the produce section is slightly lacking. Wish there was more variety. Big wine and beer selection. Also I have never waited more than a couple minutes to check out! Overall great Safeway and this is the main place that I shop.

J.B. E.

Yelp
Sold me a chicken that turned out to be rancid and probably a week past spoiling. Doubt mine was the only one! Also the customer service is very unreliable though I'm sure they're understaffed these days. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt but I don't think I'll be going back.

Yelp
This is my go-to store due to it's location, so I frequent it. There's always parking, the store is always pretty clean, they have good sales on meat (buy one get two free or BOGO), however there are a few issues. First, in the morning, around 7:30 a.m., they only have one checker and the self-check out lanes don't open until 9 a.m. Which causes there to always be a line of about 5 customers or so. I get that you don't schedule as many employees in the morning, but there are always associates stocking the shelves--so clearly, someone can help out until it slows down. So this turns my trip into what could take 5 minutes into a 10-15 minute trip... I know, first world problems. Secondly, I was there this morning (5/6/16) grabbing my lunch for work. I walk in and was greeted with a "good morning" by one of the employees, I replied with the same. A moment goes by and I hear the same employee say, "Or not" and I was probably a good twenty feet away from him so he didn't even attempt to actually talk under his breath. I walked back over to him and said, "Actually, I did say good morning to you." Realizing he made a giant ass of himself, he apologized. Regardless, even if I didn't respond, you should never say anything rude back to a customer! Control yourself. Lastly, the layout of this store is a little wonky. It's difficult to find things even though I am literally at this store all the time. As a result of these things, 2 stars.
google avatar

Muriel M.

Yelp
The cashier Stephanie is such a ray of sunshine, NOT! So rude. She clearly is not happy with her job. I brought my own bags and she acted so annoyed, was not friendly or even acknowledge me as I walked up. She practically threw my mints at me, there was no one behind me, so no reason to be so rushed to throw my items. What a disgusting show of "customer service"
google avatar

Johnny L.

Yelp
We are very happy with this Safeway, it's new, it's clean, it's big and it never feels crowded! All points that we disliked the Safeway in The Pearl for! Staff here is very helpful and friendly! 99% of everything we want, they have! We come here every Sunday. Thank you to the staff here good job.

Candice R.

Yelp
More like Unsafeway! I always feel like I'm going to be robbed here and some of the employees just suck. Fred Meyers is right down the street, no biggie.

Gregory C.

Yelp
The pharmacists (Olga and Dave) are the best. Helpful and cheerful. The lady who rings up the purchase (Angela) not so much. Too bad they have discontinued delivery, it was a nice service considering COVID.

Angela P.

Yelp
No customer service due to understaffing. No social distancing possible in self-check area. Parking lot is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
I've had several problems with the pharmacy here and will no longer be using Safeway for my prescriptions, the wait time and service is fine but several times I've had to talk to someone on the phone they were rude and unhelpful, when I got a new doctor it took MONTHS for them to finally get me a new prescription and even after that, and sending me a text saying it's ready when I actually went to the store they said they didn't have it. This has been a huge hassle especially since it's preventing me from obtaining important medication I should have had a long time ago. I'm sick of all these problems and would NOT recommend using this safeway or any safeway for your prescriptions.
google avatar

D.J. C.

Yelp
Pharmacy = 0 stars. BEWARE celiac and gluten sensitive patients -- this is NOT a friendly pharmacy. Today was the 2nd time they refused to confirm if medications I was being given were gluten free, (which my doctor requires for me). When I said "I really like working with you guys but may have to move my prescriptions elsewhere to be sure they are gluten free", the pharmacy tech said nothing to me. No apologies, no compassion, no concern over losing business. Pharmacies are legally required to confirm if medications are safe for every patient which they are NOT doing here -- scary. Store = 4 stars. Nice bright, clean store, with good covered parking lot. A decent selection of organics (produce & meat) and my favorite a Starbucks Coffee inside. They open up early & stay open late. Some food prices are a bit higher, but the convenience of getting in & out quickly, good parking lot & friendly staff make up for it. I enjoy using gas points I rack up here to save money at Chevron too. Sure wish the pharmacy was half as nice as the rest of the store!

David S.

Yelp
Horrible. Lacking basic customer service. With product that doesn't make up for being crappy toward me when I shop there. Multiple rude crappy employees on multiple trips. If only there were other options to buy food from!! (Wait there are!!!!!!).

Juan M.

Yelp
Very clean and modern. Probably the best looking Safeway I have ever been to. This location also does not do plastic bags. Store is clean and organized and parking in the garage is free. Good location, too.

H A.

Yelp
We moved our prescriptions from a mega store in the area to this Safeway pharmacy. It is the best pharmacy we have ever used. Pharmacists get to know their clients and are vigilant to check any contraindications with other medications. Since we use the pharmacy, we shop for groceries here, too. Pleasant staff, good selections in produce, and they have flash-frozen Alaska sockeye salmon which is excellent. This store also has covered parking which is well lit at night, elevators and escalators, a Starbucks coffee stand, and inside/outside seated areas for enjoying a snack or coffee. As supermarkets go, this one is very nice.

Mandie H.

Yelp
Wow! Coming from Montana, this Safeway is awesome. Parking garage is on the bottom. Handy dandy cart escalators will get your cart to the bottom no problem. I was really impressed with the supermarket sushi here. It was fabulous. Better than most sushi restaurants in Montana :-) Deli is really great. A variety of Mexican, Chinese, American, Italian...what we tasted was good...Oarnge Chicken, Lemon Caper Pasta. Not bad for a supermarket. Friendly staff, a little slow...but I'm on vacation so no problem.

Yelp
It's official that this Safeway is one of the most unsafe Safeway in P town. I left my Bright Green empty tote bag on my shopping cart while I shopped. When I checked out, my Bright Green tote bag was gone from my cart. Along with a package of plain bagels that sat on top of the bag. The cashier couldn't do anything except telling me to checked tomorrow just in case someone turn it in. YEAH right. What kind of person that stole neon green tote bag with Contessa logo on it? I got the bag for free couple years ago, so I don't care as much of the value. I just care about the safety of this Safeway since I live literally few blocks away from it. Maybe next time I should put a sign on my shopping cart, "Will trade tote shopping bag for whatever crack you are smoking,.."

Yelp
This sucker was under construction for ages, and it's this big behemoth. So, you'd think it would be huge, but it's either the same size it was before or just slightly bigger. It's certainly a lot more modern and nicer looking. Plus, it has one of those Coca Cola Freestyle machines. I like those. Their magazines are updated quickly, and the store is darn clean. Even the bathrooms. The OTC (over the counter) pharmacy choices are kind of lacking. There's one long aisle of them. And they've got a couple bays of gluten free stuff and some organics in the fruits and veggies. But there's not a huge selection of natural/organics. It does have a great kosher section, including bakery, deli, and grocery items. Possibly even a butcher, but I'm not positive on that. In any case, it's a pretty good selection. Even if you're not a Jew, you know you want Jewish baked goods, no? Yes. The folks are nice. The store is decent. It's just no Wegman's. I really want a Wegman's in Portland. You better hope that doesn't happen, Behemoth Safeway.

Yelp
This newly-remodeled Safeway looks very nice, but unfortunately it seems to suffer the same woes as other Safeways in the Portland area. The bakery section is very limited, and doesn't seem to offer much selection. They were out of French bread on one of the three trips I've made here. The meat counter selection is pathetic, especially compared to the Fred Meyer down the street. Though they've been open a few months now, business still seems to be pretty slow. I imagine most people are pretty faithful to the Fred Meyer down the road, and the only traffic Safeway is getting are Fred Meyer defectors or those who are just curious about the new store. I will say, the quality and selection in the produce section is better than at Fred Meyer. The Safeway produce (namely the organic produce) seems to last a few days longer than the stuff I buy at Fred Meyer. And since business is still pretty slow, there are plenty of people on staff with little to do to help you, and the parking situation seems ample.

Yelp
I try not to go to this Safeway, despite it being in my neighborhood. It's tiny and looks like it hadn't changed in 20 years. The deli is basically a kiosk, and forget about buying good produce. I'd rather take the bus to the Frederick Meyer Shopping Establishment down the street.
