Saffron & Salsa - Review - Roscoe Village - Chicago - The Infatuation

"With their falafel tacos and shawarma burritos, thisRoscoe Villagecounter-service spot leans fully into its self-proclaimed “Mexiterrean” identity. And many of the dishes are halal, including their quesadillas and burritos served with chicken tinga and beef or chicken shawarma." - Nick Allen

Absolutely amazing experience at Saffron & Salsa! The food here is outstanding—full of rich, authentic flavors and perfectly balanced spices. Every bite feels fresh, well-prepared, and made with care. You can truly taste the quality and love put into the cooking. The menu offers a wonderful variety, so there’s something for everyone, and everything we tried was delicious. The portions are generous, the presentation is beautiful, and the overall taste is unforgettable. On top of that, the service is warm and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. Saffron & Salsa is a must-visit spot if you’re looking for flavorful, satisfying food that keeps you coming back. Highly recommended!

I loved their food, fast casual colorful and flavorful. I don’t eat meat and there were so many options for me such as the vegetarian tacos and falafel sandwich. So many desserts too. It’s all zabiha halal. You can order online. Get their cheesecakes and horchata. Don’t miss the elotes! @chicagopescetarian

Cool concept and the birria tacos were really good! I also enjoyed the horchata. Overall, flavorful food.

This place is great. I can tell it’s small family owned and they were nice. I’d never been and they explained it. Asked about my spice level but gave me a series of things to try. It’s super fresh and honestly really good. Definitely will be coming back

First of all, the falafel burrito I ordered was delicious. Such an interesting fusion concept that works really well. The ingredients looked and tasted really fresh. The staff was super kind, and they actually put care into preparing my food (which sadly feels rare these days). I will definitely be coming back here.

The food tastes great, but they are a subway style restaurant, where you get meat, bread, and then toppings. They're weirdly restrictive about what toppings go on what bread and its weird. Why can I get rice if I get a burrito but if I want a pita with the same meat I cant have any rice inside? Some of the sauces are halal and they didnt want to give me the sauce? They were asking why I wanted the halal sauce instead of others. Because it sounded like the best sauce. There are some kinks that need to be worked out since this is a new restaurant. 1/3 of the counter is rice, but they tried to charge me an extra 2.50 to put some in my pita. Its weird that the rice is only for burritos? If its a subway style restaurant you should be able to get the toppings you want.

The cozy inviting atmosphere of this restaurant is really what makes it stand out from the others in the area. From the art on the walls, to the cozy nature of the chairs. The entire restaurant smells comforting and homey.

The flavors and sauces are on point! I like the choose your own adventure format a lot with these ingredients. The portions are great for the price and you can easily stretch a bowl into leftovers for about $10. Only feedback would be window shades for summer dine in. I was lucky it was cloudy but the dining room would get pretty toasty in direct sunlight. I'll be back for sure
