It feels like we visited Saffron at the worst moment. Atmosphere: it feels like they are preparing for a renovation. Service: fast enough and polite. It felt as though they are a bit understaffed. Food: this one is the hardest. Small plates - very very good Crab & Avocado Stack - fresh and balanced! Shrimp and grits - I guess we simply didn't understand their variant of the recipe. No smoky flavor, no tomatoes, grey-ish gravy. Ate shrimps, left the rest. Shrimp Curry - delicious rice and curry with raw spiced veggies as if chef forgot to grill them at all. Coffee - good Americano. Deserts we had Pear Tart and mini amaretto cream bake. Pear Tart 3.5. amaretto cream bake very good, fresh and flavorful! And they had really good Raspberry Mimosa!!! That's gonna be my feedback. As honest as it can be.

On our last day in Charleston, we tried this place a half mile from our hotel in the French quarter. We had seen it earlier in the week on our way to the aquarium. Hands down some of the best Mediterranean food we have had in quite some time. The portions were huge. The ingredients were fresh. The three of us ate off two ordered meals and still had left overs. One server for the entire dining room, however he handled us and others quite fine. Never missed a beat. One star down on atmosphere as it’s a bit dated and could stand a fresh coat of paint per see. For a casual restaurant it could be a 5 star though. Just depends on how you want to grade it.

Everything about the food was great. As an Iranian who makes kebabs at home, it’s not easy for me to praise restaurant kebabs — but this one was impressive! The portion size was right, and the texture and flavor of the meat were just spot on. The only downside was the lack of sumac, which I think is a pretty important part of the experience. After a long time, I had Doogh (yogurt drink) again — it was good, but not amazing. The atmosphere was very interesting, and you can also buy Iranian groceries from their store. Overall, it was a delicious and satisfying experience. I just wish they had sumac too!

If you are looking for the largest chocolate croissant, Saffron Bakery is the place! Staff were incredibly friendly and efficient but we did not find the pastries or bread to be anything special. We ordered an Apple danish, a chocolate croissant, a pecan roll, an iced chai tea, and a ciabatta bread. The pecan roll was the best of our selection. While the pastries were satisfactory, we had higher expectations. While we did not get to try the cakes, they did look extraordinary! The parking lot also only has about 6 spots which were often full, however, we were able to utilize paid parking across the street.

Google
Parking can be a bit of a challenge, as it’s hard to find a spot nearby, so plan ahead if you're driving. The food overall was enjoyable, though the chicken was slightly overcooked and a bit burnt. On the other hand, the koobideh and chenjeh (grilled meat skewers) were flavorful and well-seasoned, with tender texture and a perfect balance of spices. The real highlight, however, was the dessert. Their selection was outstanding, especially the pistachio baklava, which was delicately infused with Damask rose and saffron. It was easily one of the best I’ve ever had, rich in flavor yet not overly sweet. Despite a few minor downsides, the dining experience was memorable, and I would definitely return for the desserts alone.

First off the server mumbled to the point of me barely hearing him. But he was courteous. Next the silverware looked like they just took it off a bussed table. The server while polite let my guest finish her meal and me likewise but never brought her tea. Lastly the coffee was by far harsher than I ever had in my 66 years of life. But otherwise it was palatable. But not like it was when I ate there regularly.

Very nice bakery in town. We just picked up some pastries to take on a boat ride so didn’t expect much. Wow!! Palmier was the best palmier we ever had! Typically it’s flat but this one was crispy outside but inside was soft and flaky. We went back on the way to the airport to pick up some of palmiers, cinnamon twist and 3 big cookies. Coconut pound cake was good. Pricing was reasonable. Definitely not to miss this place when you visit Charleston.

The Saffron Restaurant & Bakery was around the corner from our hotel. A five minute walk. We went early on a Saturday morning and it was not crowded. We all enjoyed our breakfast meals. The omelets were very good as was the egg biscuit. The biscuits are large, very large. I couldn’t finish mine. The biscuits tasted just right. Easy to swallow, not dry at all. The croissants looked beautiful and are gigantic. They’re very tasty with the perfect light crunch. You can eat inside or outside. We ate inside and the waiter was quick to take our order and bring the food. As I mentioned, it was early and few people were there. Coffee is good. Wide selection of tea bags. The pastries/bakery items on display take center stage. Be sure to buy a pastry item to eat later. You’ll be happy you did. Prices were reasonable for breakfast. We didn’t eat lunch or dinner there so my rating reflects breakfast only. There is an overall 4 star rating as there is another bakery restaurant we went to for breakfast that we decided was just a bit better, and a bit more pricey. That said, we would return to Saffron to eat again. Definitely very good and yummy food. I’d like to return to try their lunch menu too. Give it a try and write your own rating. 🙂

Yelp
EVERYTHING is AMAZING! We came here every morning for breakfast on our vacation. Servers were fun and friendly. The food is exceptional! AND the bakery is out of this world delicious! Looking forward to coming bac

Yelp
As excited as I was to try this place, as disappointing it ended up! 1st of all, cleanliness is a concern! Bathrooms are literally filthy! Add to that, no soap! Think about employees using the bathroom with no soap (both men and women's stalls!). The waiter is not friendly! No smiles, not engaged etc.. above all, this place needs a serious cleaning

Yelp
Came here to get a quick bite to eat while on the way to the African American museum. Inside is very relaxed, there are tables if you want to sit and eat and also little bar chairs for if you want to just order at the register. I got there around 1130am and they let me know that breakfast ended at 11am, so I ended up getting them ham and cheese croissant and the strawberry shortcake from the case. For the ham and cheese croissant I asked the lady at the register to warm it up, and she warmed it up for me but it was hot in some places and freezing cold in others. When I requested for her to warm it up again she said that she wouldn't recommend it because it would get really greasy...so I just ate the croissant the way it was. It was okay, not really sure how it's the most popular item here though. The star of the show was the strawberry shortcake! The strawberries were so fresh, the icing and cake were both so light and fluffy!!! I should've gotten one to go!! If you're in the area definitely go grab that!!

Yelp
Can't believe I've lived in Charleston my entire life without having really eaten here! I've popped into the Bakery to pick up a cake (which was very reasonably priced for the quality and size) and noticed that they have a deli grab section and a counter with nice bread options (not GF) but didn't even fathom what I was missing. I have even passed by this restaurant for years never knowing that they also serve dinner. That being said this little GEM didn't disappoint on the price point being downtown nor the portion size... Not to mention the flavor sensations of the Middle Eastern flare. The ambiance is that of a welcoming deli-cum dining establishment with some various art prints along the wall and ample seating inside and out back on their patio. The service was relatively quick considering we had a show right next door at the Gailkard and were able to order, eat, grab a drink and make it to the concert prior to downbeat! I'd definitely try the food at least once even if you think that ME eats aren't for you! I know I'll be back for sure. The dolmados were tender and flavorful and the tatziki was a welcomed touch stop a bed of lettuce served with a lemon. The Chicken Fehsenjoon was served as 2l3 boneless chicken thighs atop a generous portion of basmati rice prepared with saffron, carrots, dried cherries, chickpeas (a slightly sweet flavor to it) and the chargeilled veggies were a nice touch (though I found it interesting that the onions were both flash charred yet not quite cooked enough for me at the same time). The Chicken and shrimp kabob skewers were another hit at the table as well. All in all the menu is fairly extensive and I can't wait to go back and try more! Also, free parking in their front lot (AND back lot after 6)!

Yelp
This shop on the edge of Charleston's downtown has a casual vibe. I got takeout; there wasn't much in the way of free parking in the immediate vicinity but I snuck in and out quickly. The place clearly emphasizes desserts, and my block of chocolate-y goodness was about as indulgent as it looks. On the other hand, this place offers a vegan menu, and I picked up a falafel wrap, which I ended up eating later. It had an appealing flavor mix, but with a bit too much salt. It wasn't a big wrap for the price, but a vegan searching for food in this area may find it worthwhile. The first time I tried ordering online from here, the app broke for some reason.

Yelp
Saffron Restaurant and Bakery is located downtown Charleston across the street from the Gaillard Center. The food is tasty, served freshly cooked and hot. They have a large range of bake goods which is displayed nicely for customers to see. They have a nice variety of choice in bake goods and menu items from breakfast, lunch and dinner. The potion sizes are large and worth the price. They offer indoor and outdoor covered seat areas. The staff is friendly and helpful. I enjoy eating at Saffrons. Always leave satisfied

Yelp
We went to Saffron to pick up some pastries & coffee before heading back home. When we got inside, there was a line to order at the front. We waited for a bit, but they were so busy. It looked like there was a conference going on and the whole conference chose to eat there lol. Servers were going back and forth from the tables through the line we were waiting in to get to the kitchen. Service was timely and the person at the cashier was nice. I just ordered the Strawberry Croissant and Cheese Croissant. Both pastries were fantastic. Both were flaky and not too sweet. The filling in the strawberry croissant was great. Once I started, I finished them quick lol. My friend got some of the day old pastries too and those still tasted great. I was impressed at what we got and if I'm ever in the area again, I'd come back.

Yelp
Food was okay although the server didn't listen to us (or the kitchen didn't pay attention to the order). Order was wrong and it also took a long time for the complete order to arrive - even though there was a lite crowd at the time we dined for (an early) lunch. It had been recommended - and we cannot do the same - ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN. It was clean and the folks were friendly enough - and seemed somewhat distracted enough that they forgot our table and were late with food (not all delivered together - some parties finished before other members of the party got their food).

Yelp
We came to Saffron Bakery for dessert and were lucky to grab a parking spot in the front. I came here on my roommate's recommendation for their cakes and I was blown away by their pastry selection! They have rows and rows of so many different cakes, cheesecakes, tarts, cookies - SO MANY GOODIES! The hardest part of my day was trying to figure out which dessert to get while waiting in line. The service was friendly and quick. I ended up getting their tiramisu and chocolate praline cheesecake. The tiramisu was pretty big with the cream layer being a bit too much for me, but the dessert itself is so light and fluffy that it doesn't feel heavy. It has the perfect amount of coffee flavor and isn't too sweet - great for a dessert after a heavy meal. The chocolate praline cheesecake on the other hand, is so decadent and delicious! Thick, creamy, chocolatey - perfect for a treat-yourself sweet treat. Both of these huge slices of cake were under $12!!! In this day, that price was crazy to me - a great deal for the amount of dessert we got. The best place to grab dessert with friends. There is so much variety that you will all definitely leave very happy and satisfied! I can't wait to come back to try their red velvet cheesecake.

Yelp
I was rather disappointed to show up a little after 11 on a Sunday morning and find out breakfast stops at 11. That's on me to have not checked in advance, but it is something to be aware of. Saffron is kind of two businesses under one roof. One is a little bakery with cookies, cakes, etc. and some coffees, the other is a sit down restaurant, with Mediterranean food. A few nights ago I stopped in and got a few excellent cookies, so I thought to take the kids and girlfriend in today for breakfast. Since we missed breakfast, I ended up ordering a Koobideh Kabob, my daughter got a fried chicken sandwich, my son got a burger, and the girlfriend got shrimp and grits. My kabob was nothing to write home about, it was lightly seasoned, but the rice and grilled vegetables were good. If someone told me the kabob was from a package I would not be surprised, it looked and tasted exactly the same as a dozen others I have had over the years. The kids liked their food but they are not too discerning. Girlfriend had three bites of her food and disliked it so much she didn't have anymore. We also had coffee drinks, my latte was perfectly fine. The tzatziki sauce was a real standout with fresh mint flavor and chunks of cucumber. Service really wasn't great; it took a while to get our drinks (both the waters and the coffees), food was slow despite the lack of customers there, but it wasn't bad either. Just had the hallmarks of being understaffed even though there seemed to be plenty of staff for the tables, but I am not an expert. I definitely would stop back in for the bakery and I am still wanting to try their breakfast, but dragging myself in to beat an 11 AM deadline isn't appealing. J.Ja

Yelp
Amazing bakery with a wide variety of pastries and desserts. We went for breakfast and it was wonderful. Our omelette breakfasts were very generously potions.

Yelp
4 star food - Easily some of the best pastries in Charleston. I always love coming here and grabbing a sweet treat but the coffee isn't my favorite. 3 star service - Generally speaking the counter service is always great but on a recent visit I had table service. No one spoke to me for a couple of minutes while I waited to be sat, once I was seated I was told the server would be right over, but it took a really long time and people who were sat after me had gotten service first so I was a bit frustrated by the interaction, then it took awhile for my server to acknowledge me and finally come take my order. Once that happened the service improved but while I was waiting a man did get up and ask for his food to be boxed up because it was taking so long. It could have been an off day but since it was my first experience sitting down I was very turned off.

Yelp
When the cook tells the server, "That's the way I cook it!" I have an issue. What brings this up is that I prefer to have my sausage cooked on the griddle, and not deep fried. I mean, isn't there enough grease in sausage as it is? The chef said, "That's how we do it." I asked for bacon instead. See the pic. The chef didn't bother to warm it up. No surprise. My understanding is that this is the attitude of the chef. It's his way or no way. So, everyone, when you eat here, be sure to ask that your sausage be grilled and not deep fried. Then be sure to lodge your complaint over your servers head.

Yelp
We stopped by here after visiting the aquarium for lunch. I was a little iffy about this place based on the reviews but decided to give it a chance because we were starving. The first thing that stood out was the lack of customer service. The service was very slow, despite there being at least 3 servers. Our server was friendly when we interacted but not very attentive to the basics. It took awhile to get our water and we weren't given straws. I asked another server when we finally got our food. I asked for tzatziki sauce when we did see her again but never got it. Our server only came back once we were almost done with our food to check us out. The family next to us actually left the restaurant because of the long wait to be served so I guess we got better service than some? The last thing that stood out was of course the food. I've had mediterranean food before so I was very excited to try this cafe as it appeared very authentic. However, I was disappointed as one of their signature dishes, saffron chicken, really lacked flavor. I had to add a lot of salt and pepper. It was also why I asked for the tzatziki sauce. I will say that the food was kinda pricy for lunch, which I wouldn't have mind if it was good and worth it, but sadly it wasn't for me. Overall ok experience but not something I would come back to try again.

Yelp
Amazing bakery and restaurant, fine Mediterranean food, and great service. We went with a large group of 6 families. The service was excellent we were seated right away as a group. Food came out really quick. The lamb gyro, and the the Cornish hen kabob were the two items to die for. So tasty and well cooked with the right amount of spices. They also serve coffee, tee and deserts we did buy some of the pastries and brought them back home. Prices are reasonable added with great service. Highly recommended if you are in the Charleston SC area.

Yelp
Comfortable atmosphere Good service Amazing baked goods Delicious salad Looking forward to our next dining experience there

Yelp
If you love a stiff cup of coffee, And have a sweet tooth for pastries and desserts this is a hidden gem Charleston.

Annie D.

Yelp
This place is exceptional. Tried their breakfast several days including avocado toast, egg white omelette, pancakes, traditional eggs with bacon, all excellent quality and quantity. Went back to try dinner twice, grilled chicken kabob and then grilled salmon with rice and vegetables. They were sooooo delicious! Healthy, perfectly grilled with some char and the rice is so special! Husband took desserts from the bakery to work a couple of days and the croissants and eclairs were raved about. Service was great and nice people. How do they do it ALL so well I'll never know. Cute and comfortable place wish it was warmer to try the back patio. Wish I could take this gem home with me.

Yelp
Good food and pastries. The coffee is southern style with chicory, but it grows on you. I had an omelet breakfast. Great food, and it filled me up. The wait staff is fun and friendly. This was recommended by a local. I'm not a local, but I recommend it to you.

Bill T.

Yelp
So ... we've been going to Saffron for the past 6-7 years. Loved it the first time ... liked it the second time ... tolerated it the third time .... Today is the last time. Our server was very nice, however, it took 30-45 minutes to get our food when the restaurant was virtually empty. When the food finally arrived ... it was disappointing. The falafels were terrible and the beef kabob was fatty. We ordered a strawberry shortcake to go and instead of trying to add some sense of service recovery and comp it ... they charged us for it. Never, ever again ... which is unfortunate because we used to really like this place. Maybe they're under new management ... still no excuse

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and was seated right away. The waitress was nice but everything just seemed to take a while. The chicken gyro with fries did taste good and the reason for the 4 stars. The restaurant itself just felt dated and nothing super fresh about it. They were quite busy and when I left they told the table next to me in it would be about a 25 min wait.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife had eggs and bacon and I had a custom omelette. Both were fine, nothing to write home about, but priced well.
google avatar

RabbiWendy S.

Yelp
While this place advertises that everything other than ketchup and mayo is made in-house, this can't possibly be true. My salad was composed of canned beans, bottled dolmas, bottled dressing, and canned beets. And I picked out moldy and old lettuce out of the spring mix. Hubby's broccoli was old and yellow. So sad! Plus inattentive service. Don't eat here!

Yelp
Service for sure and seeing people working there are actually happy Ambiance and neighborhood is really nice and clean and parking is very limited
google avatar

Yelp
It would help if they were not so rude. Taking responsibility for mistakes without defending themselves would be important. Overall quality of baked goods warrants huge improvement.
google avatar

Richard R.

Yelp
Went there this morning for breakfast. Two waiters, nice place but noisy with nine older gentlemen at the next table. Our three orders were slow in coming and my omelet has pieces of ham and pepper in the folded over eggs, not an omelet as I know them. Was not impressed enough to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
We went here for brunch and it was our first visit and ordered their sweet potato and veggie burger, their soup of the day (chicken noodle soup), saffron chicken, and lobster crab salad sandwich that came with a side. The food were okay and nothing spectacular, the service was so slow but no many people sit inside. We notice several tables outside occupied and the inside was clean. I think this place was famous for their bakery because they have so many sweet and cakes. The thing that annoying was that they charge our credit card extra $5. I noticed that because what I have on my receipt was not the same with my bank charged. Mind you, with slow service we still give her over 18% tips. I called the place a week after and someone said he will talk to the manager but no one called back. I called again the next week and the manager didn't seem care and finally talk to the server that served us and the whole thing was so weird. She apologize only after I mentioned it and she said it was an accident and she was very slammed that day and will give the $5 back. I understand if she was busy etc but the whole conversation about this extra charge was weird! Ya'll make sure to check your bank charges to make sure it matches your receipt. I WONT be back at this place for sure! Costumer service is still a big deal in restaurant business!

Deb S.

Yelp
You must try the baked goodies - cookies, almond pastry are fantastic. Enjoyed the breakfast omelet with fresh mushrooms and avocado. Delish! Service was great and place was clean and inviting!
google avatar

Mary D.

Yelp
I was so hungry and the place I wanted to order from would not deliver. So I fell across this place and this was so good! The wrap was juicy and the meat was tender! Well done falafel was tasty, but a little spicy. The hummus was nice and creamy. Will order again from this spot!
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
I was waiting for my room to be ready nearby at the Hilton and walked over to get a bite to eat. The food was pretty good but the male server wasn't very friendly which is no big deal to me. I was actually planning to tip him well until he gave me $80 change in return for the $100 bill I gave him. My bill was $19.92. Yes it's only 8 cents he short changed me but it's the principle that bothered me. I decided not to tip him at all and will never go back. Will also follow up with the manager, Ling, about this nonsense too.
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
The menu looks fantastic and items in the bakery case are mouthwateringly beautiful. We were seated outside on a cute patio. The server took our order and brought water fairly quickly. And then we sat. For over 30 minutes. My husband finally went to remind them about us--pretty sure they forgot--and sure enough, our order was suddenly ready, cold from sitting there so long. Eggs were like vinyl, toast was soggy, and avocado spread needed salt. The cold chocolate chip pancake was still good though. And lest readers of this review think our experience was a fluke, we noticed everyone else on the patio waiting quite a while, too, and one guy also went in search of the server. Bottom line: go somewhere else.

R. S.

Yelp
In Charlotte for the first time and went to Saffron for breakfast. Sat outside. Service was very attentive and not rushed. I had the Charleston Avocado Toast which was very filling and tasty and served hot. Wife had Traditional breakfast, eggs, toast, potatoes and sausage. She enjoyed very much. Maybe the best part is the selection of pastries. Soooo many to choose from, made fresh daily. The only negative for us was we were so full that we couldn't bring ourselves to eating anymore. We'll be going back.

Chris M.

Yelp
I ordered salmon with rice and veggies. The roasted veggies were burnt to a crisp and I could not even eat all of it. The rice included clumps of caked up rice from the bottom of the pot. When I told the server about it and showed it to her, she acted very indifferent with no apology or empathy. Also, the service was very slow.
google avatar

Misty R.

Yelp
Heaven on Earth! The word bakery caught my eye, but once I walked in, it was the pastries the I kept looking at. There are so many to pick from, and oh, so good. My favorite was the Strawberry Shortcake. I had several different desserts, and they were all so good. I will be back. I recommend checking this place out.
google avatar

Aric W.

Yelp
Waited in line for 15 minutes to buy some pastries. Only to have two people cut in line in front of me. The person behind the counter did not care that I had been waiting patiently before them. I was on my lunch break, it was all wasted on bad service.
google avatar

Patti D.

Yelp
Came here a while back for dessert. I don't remember what we had but it was average at best. Came back today to try breakfast at the restaurant section. Much better experience. Solid spot for eggs, etc... They could use a facelift as the interior is very old school, dark and needs updating. I had the pancakes which, as the menu states, were going to be the best I ever had. They are tied with the best pancakes. I would definitely come here when I'm craving pancakes. Huge portion, couldn't even finish them and that's a first for me! Coffee was hot and delicious, no bitterness at all. My husband had the southern veggie omelette with a side of grits and rye toast. He enjoyed his meal. The rye was on the lighter side so he'd probably pass on that next time. Overall, a very good, filling meal!
google avatar

Shamila P.

Yelp
Safron was jsut okay for me. Cant say for sure because I've not try the whole menu and the really do have tons of baked good. We got a cream puff and two slices of cake. I did like the cream puff but the cakes were not really the taste I was looking for. They got indoor and outdoor seating choices and their own parking area. P/S They do not have Chai Teas just tea bags

Yelp
What a fine. We had learned about saffron on another trip and wanted to try it. We went for breakfast two days in a row. My wife had the daily special blueberry French toast, and while the bread was thick, it was very light and airy. Also, the blueberries were not sickening sweet as often happens. we wondered if maybe there was a bit of saffron in them to make them modestly sweet, not sickeningly sweet. I had the Bill drone omelette and there was something wonderfully different about the eggs as well. We speculated about buying some saffron of our own thinking that could be the magic ingredient. We really enjoyed this place and will try to come back for dinner one night. From Iran, 40 years ago but remembers many of the old recipes and cooks with them and it shows. Apparently he is secretive about them too lol. I'll have to go to enjoy.

Yelp
Nice casual restaurant with friendly servers and absolutely wonderful on-site bakery. Menu is full of choices, reasonable prices and food typically is good but, lacks "knocks your socks off" flavor or pizazz
google avatar

Deanna W.

Yelp
If you need some good Persian food while in Charleston, Saffron won't disappoint! The portions are large but not unmanageable, and the food is absolutely delicious! We dined on the patio, and had a very peaceful meal. The waitress was just attentive enough, but gave space so we were able to have a good conversation. They have a small parking lot, which is not usual in Charleston. Now I have that full, happy feeling!

Yelp
Lunch here recently was good but not what it once was. Service was slow, the place was noisy and crowded. Would I return? Not soon.

Yelp
We went to Saffron based off the recommendation of the concierge at the property we are staying at when I had inquired about somewhere I could get coffee and pastries. He also mentioned that they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner so we went and checked them out for brunch. The hubs ordered the build your own omelette with swiss cheese, onions, mushrooms and sausage. There had to have been 1 small sausage link that was cut into 4 pieces to form the meat part of the omelette. The Swiss cheese was nice and melty and the mushrooms and onions seemed to have been sautéed in butter, before being added to the omelette which created the omelette to be a little on the oily side. But overall he felt that the omelette was good. Just lacking in meat. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The brown gravy that the shrimp is served in reminded me a lot of the gravy you would find with Salisbury steak. Not a bad thing. It was just different from what I guess I expected it to be. I was not a huge fan of the grits. The tasted like Quaker instant grits to me and it was just really disappointing. The service could have been better. We had to keep asking for things, we never got any refills on our beverages and while it could be both an issue with our server and the kitchen staff, my food came out on the cold side, but not cold enough to have to wait to have it warmed or remade. Overall, the food was mediocre at best and it is definitely not a place I would return to when visiting again.

Yelp
I usually am a sucker for a bakery and the exterior of Saffron looked so cute -- I had high hopes walking in. Unfortunately, the place was really run down and staff were practically non existent. Lately I try to be even more understanding as I know staffing mid-pandemic has been a huge challenge in the restaurant industry especially, but a complete lack of service was what I got at Saffron. I tried to order a crab sandwich, they were out of crab so I went with the chicken salad sandwich. There was a group of 2 people ahead of me and rows of empty tables throughout the restaurant yet it still took 30 minutes for me to receive my to-go meal. I'd assume chicken salad is pre-made so it should be mostly assembly for what I ordered. I looked around while I was waiting; they sell lots of pastries and ethnic food items. While they have a large selection of desserts, the case looks like it could use a good cleaning and maintenance and the same goes for the rest of the restaurant. Overall, it has good potential but pretty disappointing execution.

Yelp
Would give this 3.75/4. We came in before the afternoon/evening rush and immediately ordered some she crab soup which came out very quickly. I could already tell that the soup was good but could be better at other places (not a lot of crab but very creamy). My pearl couscous salad was nice and refreshing--tho I didn't care for the vinaigrettes.

Yelp
Was visiting Charleston with a group of friends. Looking for a place to have breakfast. As we walked into the bakery we noticed display cases of desserts which was so appealing and tempting. Decided to get desserts after breakfast. The waitress sat us in a wobbly table out in the patio/outside dining area. Noticed this after we started to take napkins from table. The place was practically empty. Only two patrons. We got up and took all utensils and went to another table. Staff was notified of the wobbly table. The older woman said she knew about the wobbly table. Why would you sit customers knowing this and potentially having an accident. They did not care. In fact, the waitress sat the next group in the same table and they were not too happy about it either. The older woman then came out and said we will move you to another table. If you are going to dine here, then get the cooked items. My friend enjoyed his omelette. You are safer with cooked items than the cold ones we experienced. The lox was not fresh with a slab of cream cheese on bagel. The fruit salad tasted from a can. The icing to the cake was when we went to the ladies room which had a smell and saw the dead roach right by one of the stall. There is no way that you miss this as you are using the toilet. We informed this to the same woman and she noted that this is normal around this time. Is that the response to say to a customer? For real. When was the last time you had the bathroom totally cleaned? Waitress that sat us in wobbly table comes out and then ask if we all wanted desserts. We asked for the check. Due to sanitary issues as well as customer service. We will not be coming back again.

Yelp
Years ago I used to order cakes from Saffron and have always loved their breads, however I have never eaten here until today! Wow I have been missing out on some delicious food! I ordered the Saffron Maza..... the shirazi salad was so fresh and delicious! The falafel had just enough spice and was delicious with the hummus. Oh I loved the eggplant Mirza! This plate was large enough for two! Everything was so fresh and delicious.... Sorry I haven't eaten here before now!

Yelp
Not what I was expecting. As per the website, I thought it was more Mediterranean. We came for breakfast and it was your typical American menu with smaller choices. We waited a long time for the waiter even to get our coffees and order. I ordered pancakes with a side of sausage. The pancake didn't tasted good. My husband ordered the sandwich croissant and was regular. We had to remind her about our order and drinks. For spending more than $50 for breakfast, I would have expected better. I was hopping for a Mediterranean breakfast.
