The Best Indian Restaurants in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Tucked into Assembly Food Hall, Saffron gives traditional Indian dishes an on-the-go twist befitting of its hectic, try-it-all-at-once location. Exhibit A: biriyani bowls loaded with your choice of chicken, paneer, vegetables, shrimp, and egg. Exhibit B: street snacks like pani puri and a variety of samosas. Wash it all down with a guava or sapota shake before setting off to brave the Broadway crowds." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Google
They have raisins and cashew in the biryani. Not a dum biryani, he will add masala and cook in front of you, Lamb is hard to chew.. if not other option in downtown nashville come and eat here 😀 won’t recommend biryani.

Google
My wife and I were going to share a chicken Tikka masala bowl and when he asked if we were getting two we said "no we're sharing, we're on a budget." He charged for one but he ended up also giving us a bowl of chicken korma. Both were delicious and we were really blessed by their generosity.

Google
I'm sorry but it's not halal place to eat , we were so starving, and we traveled 29 miles for this restaurant and we found it so hardly in a food mall on 3 Rd floor , when we reached we got to know that was no halal. We left with disappointment.

Google
This restaurant is located at the Assembly Food Hall, which has a great worldly modern ambiance! Ordered the chicken marsala rice bowls & butter naan. Pretty Good! It is a mild level of spicy, but we didn't specifically ask if we could have it hotter, either. There were a few interesting items on the menu, and time permitting, we would go back.

Google
The restaurant is good, has limited options and not all of it is good. Not the authentic Indian food taste. The chicken in the chicken Manchurian was slightly undercooked. They have fixed prepared gravy which is later added with your choice of meat or paneer, so not much of customization.

Google
I had the build your own rice bowl and got the chicken tikka masala because you really can't go wrong with that and I was not disappointed. It was very good and I got it super fast. Literally, I put my order in and it was done in a few minutes. The price was good for the amount of food I got.

Google
I order 2 different naan and neither were good. This is a subpar place I would not recommend.

Google
Grabbed a few bites to eat while listening to some live music on a Friday night. Ordered the Chicken Tikka Kebab, Vegetarian Samosas, and Coconut Tomato Soup. Received a text about 10 minutes later that my food was ready for pickup. Food was good, but the chicken was a little dry. Samosas were good and the chutney tasted great. My favorite was the Coconut Tomato Soup as it had a nice creamy balance between the Coconut and Tomato. Overall, good quick and convenient place to get Indian food while visiting the Assembly Food Hall.

Yelp
I was not expecting this place to be so good since it is in a food hall. He served us hot delicious food right before close. Well worth the money. I got the basmati rice with chicken tikka masala. It was delicious food and fast service.

Yelp
Saffron is a great place to grab restaurant-quality Indian food that's ready in just a few minutes! The staff here are super efficient and friendly, and the food has always been excellent. I've gotten the chicken korma bowl several times, which is flavorful and authentic. Their naan is also great, as are the vegetarian samosas! Saffron is located in Assembly Hall, which has a huge variety of great places to eat. Go check it out!

Yelp
Pretty good food! I ordered delivery this time and everything came safe and sound. Mango lassi: 4.5/5. Great flavor. Delicious. Veggie samosas: 4/5. Good samosas. Nice spice. I was looking for a little more complexity of flavor but it does the job. Tikka masala: 4.5/5. Very tasty. Creamy and flavorful. Nice big chunks of chicken. I actually wish they were a bit smaller for ease of eating but doesn't take away from the flavor of course. Naan: 3.5/5. I like my naan a fluffier but it was okay. It wasn't advertised as garlic naan but no complaints cuz that's what I wanted. I assume it would be tastier fresh so give it a shot yourself! Overall, probably the best Indian food I've had in Nashville since moving here. Not many options on the menu, this is definitely a smaller, food court spot, but what they have is good! I would for sure eat here again!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant while visiting the local food hall and was instantly pulled in by the delicious aromas of the food here! Staff was very friendly and gave good suggestions for someone me like me who has never eaten Indian cuisine before. I had the chicken tikka masala with basmati rice and garlic naan. The chicken was plentiful and the sauce was really robust, paring nicely with the naan bread. the bread was made fresh and my food stayed hot in its container while I waited on my boyfriend to get his from another restaurant in the food hall. This restaurant will definitely be my go to if I'm ever in Assembly Food Hall again!

Yelp
After browsing Assembly Food Hall, my boyfriend and I landed on Saffron and we're so glad we ate here! I was pleasantly surprised by the large portion sizes. The Tikka Masala bowl was SO good! Chicken pieces were a little big, but it was such a good dish. The garlic naan was absolutely stellar. My boyfriend got a salad and chicken samosas. The samosas was a little on the spicy side for me, and I honestly didn't get to the salad since I was honed in on my bowl. Absolutely worth the stop at Assembly Food Hall!

Trisha J.

Yelp
Chicken biriyani was good but lamb kebabs were like pieces of rock, impossible to chew.
google avatar

Victor D.

Yelp
I'm surprised this place didn't have a line. Food's really good. And price was fair. They can also adjust spice levels for their that are more sensitive, which I don't see often in Indian cuisine
google avatar

Yelp
* Food Court Style Dining * The Assembly is a cool place to grab a quick lunch. You have options from Nashville Chicken to Indian to Burgers and more. We stopped by Saffron and ordered: - Rice Bowl with Chicken and Tikka Masala sauce: good rice to sauce to meat ratio. The Tikka sauce was buttery and creamy. Milder in flavor compared to other Indian restaurants I am more familiar with. Still a good tasting dish. Recommend. - Cauliflower Manchurian: the dish looked so vibrant when it was served but lacked So. Much. Flavor! I was incredibly disappointed. The cauliflower was really crunchy but the sauce left so much to be desired. If you are familiar, this dish should have a sweet soy flavor with notes of ginger. I picked none of this up. Do Not Recommend This Dish.

Yelp
I am so glad I went to Saffron while at the Assembly Hall. I was visiting Nashville and had never been to the Assembly Hall. I originally was going to go to The Pharmacy because my friends were getting food from there, but I had a bad experience at the counter so decided to look for something new. I love Indian food so didn't hesitate when I saw Saffron. The man working was extremely helpful regarding my questions, and I love that they have some vegan options since I can't eat dairy/eggs. After asking for his recommendation, I got the Chana masala and added chicken. It was fantastic, and I would go back. Service was quick, the line was not long, and they were very friendly. I would consider eating here again next time I'm in Nashville.

Yelp
We've been eating our way through Assembly Food Hall and we had to come to Saffron as the aroma grabs you as you're walking by and doesn't let go. My wife and I tried the chicken tikka masala and gobi Manchurian as well the chicken samosas and all 3 of these dishes were very, very tasty. The tikka masala had great flavor and the basmati rice was cooked well. Gobi Manchurian is a favorite of mine and theirs was very flavorful with a good amount of spice. The samosas were also very good and it was a filling and flavorful meal overall!
google avatar

Yelp
Looks like standard Indian fare in a busy assembly hall buzzing with a lot of great options, but boy is the food good. We got the paneer tikka masala, which was fresh, piping hot and delicious! The habanero naan was amazing too, but its not for folks with a lighter spice tolerance. I would highly recommend this place. They're reasonably priced for a healthy quantity. Loved it and will be back here if I'm in Nashville again! Yee-haw!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a nice little Indian spot in the mall. Taste is on point and is good for people with any spice level tolerance. I tried the Samosa Chaat, Paneer Tikka rice bowl, Chinese noodles and Mango lassi. The portion sizes are quite good and prices are okay as well. They do get busy so the service was a little slow, but overall the food was freshly prepared in front of me and was delicious. Very much recommended if you want to get your masala fix.
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Indian food. I was pleasantly surprised how delicious the chicken tikka masala is. I came back a second time to the food hall just to eat it again. I live in Florida and am desperate to find this dish or learn how to make it at home. It was so delicious! Saffron will be my first stop when I'm back in Nashville!
google avatar

Mihal F.

Yelp
Man, I feel like it's really hard to mess up Indian food this bad? Chicken was dry and flavorless, it made me very sad.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Food: I had it three times now and I had stomachache every time I had it. Quality was simply not good at all and now I gave up. Will not go back again Service: terrible. Server was rude. Ambiance: no way to put a score in it
google avatar

Yelp
Most American Indian fast food isn't very good, but this place was an exception. We came here before seeing a show at TPAC and chose it since there wasn't a long line. I got a bowl with chicken tikka and some garlic naan bread. It wasn't very spicy (to my pleasure!) but the flavors and spices were well done. It was a good sized portion for the price and I will definitely come back.
google avatar

Charles J.

Yelp
Yup. Very good. Covid safe too as I am proud of my Antibody Negative update from the American Red Cross. Service stood out the most. Even when I needed to delay my order to go and get some lottery tickets. They were so accommodating. Food was delicious as well. What more could I ask for. Word! Very good job gentlemen.

Yelp
The Fifth & Broad food court is filled with so many good spots and this spot is no exception. When we visited on a Thursday night it wasn't crowded so we ordered right away and it took about 15 minutes to get the food. You order at the counter and they text you when it is ready for you to pick up. I ordered the rice bowl with white basmati rice, paneer (similar to tofu) and tikka marsala. I originally wanted the brown rice but they were out. My friend ordered the chicken biryani. Our food also came with a yogurt sauce to dull the spice just in case. The rice bowl was very good and filling. It had just the right ratio of rice and sauce and the spice was just the right amount. The biryani was a bit spicier but also very good and flavorful!

Storm M.

Yelp
Great place, great staff. Delicious food. The only criticism I would say is that they do add sugar to their curry. As an Indian, I do not like that as I think it mars the taste of good curry. Perhaps they can have a non-sugar added curry on their menu and let us know about it. Of course the Americans I were with didn't know the difference.
google avatar

Bryan P.

Yelp
Delicious food. Everything downtown is overpriced, but this place is less overpriced than most. Plus, they have generous portions.
google avatar

Lemon C.

Yelp
The Assembly Hall food court on the 2nd floor is very crowded and you will be sharing a table with someone you don't know, if you can find a seat at lunchtime. I love Indian food so I was excited to try this place. I would have liked to have seen everyone wearing gloves but unfortunately the man platting the food was not. The man at the register was very pushy about getting a drink. The Samosa was dripping in oil. I got way too much rice with the paneer biryani.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
Nice flavors but a deception in serving size. Not too sure if we were at the end of of the cauldron for the Tikka Masala bowl, but it was all sauce and only 4 cubes of chicken. Unlike the photograph on the menu that displayed a bounty of chicken, mine was a bowl of rice and sauce. Other better options available in the Assembly Hall.
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
Who would've known that the best chicken tikka masala on earth can be found in a food court in Nashville? Don't hesitate for a split second to try it, you'll thank me later!

Kameron T.

Yelp
Yum!!! Love the tikka masala and they have great customer service. Also recommend the garlic naan!!!
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
This is a personal favorite of mine in the 5th on Broadway food hall. I usually order a chicken tikka masala and I always leave full and satisfied. The serving size is plenty. It comes with a generous portion of chicken, and an even distribution of rice and sauce. Not to mention--the sauce is delicious and rich! Easily a food hall favorite.

Scalrix J.

Yelp
Food was terrible. Service was alright It was good enough but not excellent. The reason I put one star is because the food is way below standard and doesn't have any quality, I hope this message did not come off as disrespect, just an Honest review.
google avatar

Ricardo Q.

Yelp
People, it's in a food court. This is NOT a restaurant. We still tried to give it a shot. The website said it closed at 11pm. Got there at 10:05 and it was closed. So, that's all I can say about it.

Lj B.

Yelp
Great Biryani Rice dishes! Curries, chicken, Samoza's, vegetable dishes too! Delicious! Tasty!
google avatar

Davis L.

Yelp
Not one of the more packed places at Assembly Food Hall but it should be. The chicken tikka masala bowl is phenomenal, the naan is hot and fresh, and the portion sizes are satisfying. Staff is friendly as well. Thank you guys!

Yelp
I love Indian food and have had a lot of it in my life - this was not it. I ordered the pan puri and I've never been served it deconstructed before. I had to poke the holes in the cracker and fill it myself, which really was not fun. I was given some sort of gross, sewage looking water which I was told was a tamarind mixture for the pain puri. The lady behind the counter said a lot of people like different mixtures of potato and tamarind "water" which is why they don't serve it already mixed together. Either this was a lazy cop out excuse, or people in Nashville are really weak and can't handle indian food. I would have appreciated the holes being poked out already, or being told that it came deconstructed and I'd had to poke the holes myself before paying for it. I ordered samosas too which were just okay. Everything was lacking in flavor, and had a bitter taste to it. On the plus side, the people working there for very nice.

Angel M.

Yelp
The food was great and the service was too. I had Coconut curry and garlic bread and both were seasoned just right. Not too hot but very flavorful. Dolfi will take good care of you if you are lucky enough to get him as your server!

Sam N.

Yelp
They could do better . Fried corn not what expected and samosas had little taste. Five characters

Yelp
This is a wonderful restaurant. It is neat, clean, comfortable and the service is very good. We came in for lunch and were heartened to see the staff were very keen to implement all the necessary Covid 19 steps to help ensure we were safe as we ate. I was very pleased with the price. This is a classy little place which doesn't charge an arm and a leg for top quality food. We ordered an assorted appetizer, dahi batata puri, vegetable samosas, hot tea and a marsala chai. It was all exceptionally good and contained elements which are from other Asian nations, but there was no doubt it was an Indian restaurant. Special note must be made of the samosas. They were as good as anything I have eaten, anywhere in the world...and I am a samosa tragic. BTW, the Indian cricket team is currently visiting Australia and they have given us more than a run for our money. But that's got nothing to do with anything really. It's a very good restaurant and we will return on a frequent basis.
google avatar

Scott A.

Yelp
This was our first visit and we will definitely come again. Chicken Tikka was delicious. Very mild and flavorful. Loved the Naan as well. I would definitely recommend it.
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
The chicken Marsala was so good, in fact the best I've had thus far! Very underpriced!
google avatar

Grissette A.

Yelp
I have found my Indian food restaurant. The bread was soft and warm , sag paneer rocked my world, the rice was cooked perfectly and the samosas were crisp on the outside and flavorful on the inside. The service was exceptional, and I had no complaints. Definitely worth the lunch special.
google avatar

Priya N.

Yelp
Got the Chicken biryani to go. It was quite ok, smelled aromatic , good portion size. Usual story with chicken biryani, lots of rice less chicken. Not bad, not wow either. Also tried their masala chai while waiting to pick up our food. It was just a plain milky chai. No ginger, no cardamom, no other spices. Boring!
google avatar

Bruna V.

Yelp
Great food and delightful service! They have such a nice dining room, with excellent service! Food is original and full of flavor! I have been coming back and will continue to do so! They are very careful and follow guidelines during COVID19. We love it!
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
Reviews matter. I read that the food was bland. I didn't believe it. I asked for spicy on the lentil bowl. Still bland. Disappointed for sure.
google avatar

Andrew N.

Yelp
I was looking for something quick, tasty, and easy vegetarian options and I was glad I ate here. The staff acknowledged me quickly, and the Tikka rice bowl with paneer was delicious! The "hot" option was decently spicy, even for someone who loves spicy food. A little pricey, like many options in the Food Hall, but the portion size made it a good value. I'll remember this place!
google avatar

Biz M.

Yelp
This is NOT run by the Woodland/Mysore people. I just spoke to the manager and to quote him: "new ownership-new everything." Went for Sunday buffet. Not bad, but not exactly good. Naan was dry and didn't appear to be house-made. Variety was not what it was at Mysore. Overall the flavors were blander and quality just wasn't there. Don't think we'll be back.
google avatar

Sir Gustavus T.

Yelp
Wonderful food. I visited this establishment upon the tip of a colleague, and was delightfully surprised! Gracious customer service, beautiful decorations, and scrumptious culinary choices.
google avatar

Aaron H.

Yelp
Great Vegetarian food and now Meat! Used to be Mysore but just changed the name and started serving meat dishes. Some of the best Indian food in the Nashville area and definitely the best Indian buffet. I didn't actually know the name changed until we got there but I was happy with the meat options. Great selections of curry, rice and traditional Indian dishes. Prices aren't outlandish and the atmosphere is casual. Get there before 2pm on most days because they close early. I think they only stay open to 2 on weekdays and 2:30 on Saturday. Sunday they stay open longer. You can get to go as well and I believe they deliver through third parties. Can't recommend this place enough. Every time I am in cool springs it comes up to go eat here.
google avatar

Morey K.

Yelp
Great flavors! I enjoyed the Gobi Manchurian, bindi Masala and the biryani we ordered. I do think their heat scale threw me off a bit. We asked for everything to be mild, but it seemed really hot/peppery to me. Either way, I'll Be going back.... I'll just adapt my perception of spice levels to match theirs. The staff was also very friendly!
google avatar

Fredy D.

Yelp
We've been to Saffron twice since it opened and we love the food and the service. The first time we ate there we kept the order pretty standard. A couple of chicken dishes and some Naan. All cooked to perfection and came out piping hot. We left happy. This time we ordered the a Chicken Tikka Masala, garlic Naan and Goat Rogan Josh. Spiced at level 4 the Rogan Josh was really tasty. Amazing flavor. This really is one of the best places to eat in Cool Springs, TN
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Excellent Indian food in Franklin. We ordered Chicken Vindaloo, Garlic Naan, rice, and Chicken Tikka Masala. The food was spicy so we got some coconut milk to make it a little less spicy. Great service, friendly staff, and we saw some other dishes on other tables that we will try on our next visit. 5 stars!

Phillip M.

Yelp
I moved from an area that had a predominantly Indian population and used to go to Indian restaurants a lot. I also lived with one of my friends who is Indian and would have a lot of homecooked food from his parents. I decided to try Saffron and it's better than most of the restaurants I went to and on par with my friend's homecooked food. I got the Chicken Tikka bowl and 6 chicken samosas and recommend both. The price isn't bad either - about $24 for what I got.

Sydney V.

Yelp
I went here with my family for my birthday and the food was delicious. Our server Avinash was so friendly and recommended the best food. Will definitely go here again soon!
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
Tried this recently and loved it. Appreciate they offer vegan and gluten free options! Heading back tonight

Deborah V.

Yelp
Had such an amazing meal here and the staff was so friendly and helpful! I ended up going back for a Togo order so I could enjoy it again the next day for lunch. Highly recommend. I had the paneer tiki masala. Delicious!
