Saffron Valley - Sugar House

First time dining here and was happy with my experience, overall. The servers are really kind and attentive. Though the service was a little on the slow side, I wasn’t in a rush and it was delicious. I got the butter chicken and it was so tender and fell apart. My sister got the coconut korma, which was also really good. So simple, yet soooo flavorful. The naan was some of the best I’ve ever had. Fresh, impeccable soft texture. The strawberry lassi was sweet and tangy. Excited to try the rice pudding I got to go.

We stopped by for a lunch buffet on a Friday. It was definitely worth it and everything was really good. We sampled a wide variety of foods. They also had fruit lassi and really delicious desserts. Service was also quick and friendly! We would definitely come back.

I recently tried the buffet here and was pleasantly surprised by the variety they offer. There are plenty of options in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. What stood out most to me was the vegetarian food it was flavorful, fresh, and really satisfied my taste buds. On the other hand, the non-veg dishes felt a bit mild and could use a stronger flavor profile. But shrimp stands out.Still, everything was well presented and the spread overall was impressive. The place has a nice ambience and the buffet is worth the price for the range and quality you get. If you’re in the area, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try especially if you enjoy good vegetarian Indian food! 🌿🍛

Its great to have an Indian Buffet in Salt Lake City. The buffet is reasonably priced and decently elaborate in its selection of food choices. I particularly liked the Papdi Chaat and Gulab Jamun. Rasmalai was pleasant surprise to have! Overall, worth the price, time and experience. My two cents: Few more options in the 'Beverages' section of the buffet (such as, Mango Lassi, Chaas, Jal Jeera, etc.) would make it an even more fulfilling & complete experience.

Visited Saffron recently and had a decent experience overall. The cozy ambiance makes for a comfortable and welcoming dining atmosphere. They offer a buffet with a good variety of items to choose from, which is always a plus when you’re in the mood to try a bit of everything. The front staff was courteous and attentive, adding to the positive vibe of the place. There’s still some room for improvement in food taste and quality. A few dishes were slightly off—Aloo Tikki and Fish 65 were a bit salty for our liking. On the other hand, the Eggplant with green peas was surprisingly good and stood out with its balanced flavor. Overall, a nice place with potential—just a few tweaks in the kitchen could elevate the experience even more.

The lunch buffet has pani puri and lamb curry. It's great. I order a la carte items at night and they're all delicious. The round sweets were too sweet!

I got curry last night. Didn't even touch it. The rice was awful. The curry was ... Cheaply done! I don't know why anyone would want to eat this food. Small portions. And again, very cheaply done. One star. Do not recommend it. Correction: I am not sure if the food was from Saffron Valley in the Avenues, or Sugar House.

Staff was amazing, assist very well. Food variety is top of the order Their Buffet option is best in town, shouldn’t be missed. It’s value for money and you got tons of options from appetizers to main course. Location is great too Overall it’s pocket friendly, food tastes really good, and service is also up to the par.

This place continues to impress! I think they have the best Indian buffet of all places I have tried in the US. 2 years ago I had a great experience and now I am back in the area so decided to check it out again. This time they have a live Indian street food counter that served Vada pav, pani puri, dahi puri, bhel, pav bhaji and papdi chaat. It's all made to order and brought fresh to table. It was so delicious and authentic!! They also have dosa and idli that is included in their lunch buffet. The regular buffet offerings are so many.. just to name some.. fish 65, chicken tikka, potato pakora, samosa chaat, chicken tikka masala, fish curry, lamb, aloo gobi, saag paneer, dal.. 2 desserts. Service is fantastic.

Went to lunch with friends and decided on the buffet- what an amazing selection of dishes First we were introduced to several appetizers so we got one of each - the little puff balls we're amazing and delicious and the spices balanced. We loved all the dishes On to the Buffet - the naan was awesome and loved the many different dishes . Everyone is friendly and helpful - the lunch buffet is a great way to try their many dishes and options . We'll be back!

The ambiance of this restaurant is so unique and fun. It feels like you are at a train station in India. The employees are friendly. The food is flavorful and filling.

Two star because the butter chicken was ok. Otherwise 1star because the naan was not fresh made. it was re-heated stale, chewey and hard to bite. I got takeouts and waited 15 minutes. Why did we wait only to be given stale food ?

Went on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly. The food was amazing! Ordered the Coconut Korma and Chicken Biryani. Flavorful and the rice was light and airy. Don't forget the Garlic Cheese Naan. Your tastebuds will thank you. Friendly and attentive service. Oh....I just loved the plates, bowls, and cups. Very relaxing atmosphere. There's so much more to try on the menu!

Been here a few more times for the lunch buffet!! It's my favorite because I can try little bits of everything!! I only took a couple of pictures, but thoroughly enjoyed everything I tried!! They always have a great variety!! Service is always great! Happy to answer any food questions. Love the decor, it just feels cozy and inviting!! Need to come for dinner sometime.

Living less than 10 minutes away, Saffron Valley is always a go-to and solid choice. This most recent visit was no different. The food is always consistently good and flavorful, and the staff is always attentive and kind. For this trip, I tried the chicken vindaloo with the fire spicy level, and it surprised me in a good way. Of all the great things Saffron Valley does, I always seemed to be disappointed with their spice levels of foods. However, the chicken vindaloo had a perfect (and fairly high, especially for Utah) spice level without taking away from the flavor. The garlic naan was, as you would expect, a perfect garlicky complement to the vindaloo. As always, the restaurant is clean, modern, and overall, a welcoming place to have a meal and hang out. Overall, Saffron Valley is a consistent, and consistently good Indian restaurant that I will return to a few times a year. They do a great job in all aspects. The only reason why they're getting 4 stars instead of 5 is, for my taste and palette, there is at least one Indian restaurant in the valley that is better, Curry Connect. BUT, this is still a great spot worth checking out.

We LOVE this Indian place! Authentic & delicious! Spice level was great and felt authentic also which was awesome. The yogurt drinks are key if you love to order with high spice level! We were so grateful to find a spot like this. Staff was excellent as well, highly recommend for a date night!

Came back for a lunch date and everything was amazing. The service is top knotch and friendly and the food options on the buffet is extensive. Friday lunch appears to be more expensive but still worth it for the variety, ambiance and service. Some of the options offered are items you wouldn't find anywhere else. They even had a separate area for Indian Street foods that was beautifully presented and delicious. Lunch gets busy so parking can be limited.

Went out to dinner with one of my friends last night. I was looking forward to try a new Indian food restaurant that she highly recommended. Service was a little slow for a not very busy Wednesday night. I ordered the Paneer Tikka Masala with mild heat & Garlic Cheese Naan. I've never seen this kind of naan before. My friend ordered the Butter Chicken with medium heat & Garlic Cheese Naan. The naan was so good! So hard to explain but I don't know how they got all the cheese in between the naan pieces. It was fantastic! I liked the Tikka Masala as well, it was a little spicy even being the mild heat level, but I'm kind of a baby with spice. My friend said hers was really good & she didn't feel like the medium spice level in hers was too much at all, just the perfect amount. It was plenty of food for left overs. I actually loved that they gave us each our own rice bowl. Sometimes sharing rice seems to never be enough. It looks like they have several locations & I can't wait to take my boyfriend there next time. @thesaffrongroup

Best Indian buffet I've had. Aside from the usual fare, they also include a dosa station, pav bhaji station, and pani puri/golagape station. They were also so nice and had great customer service. Everything they made was so fresh! They also brought over fresh naan, gobi paranthis, and paneer paranthis!! I have never had an Indian buffet have these extra options and that they're made fresh too! The restaurant was nice and clean. The servers do a great job cleaning the tables right away! Bathroom was also really clean! We don't live in SLC but I will be thinking about this place every time I go to an Indian buffet wishing all Indian buffets had such excellent service and food options.

Very tasty food, probably one of the best Indian food I've had. Great authentic flavors, perfectly cooked protein in the curries, fluffy basmati rice, great textured naan. Very friendly servers. Service was a little slow, hence the four star review instead of five.

Omg! I've been passing by this place for so long and finally got to try it !! Delicious! I had a friend back east that would always make me indian food so I was looking for something authentic! This did not disappoint! Authentic, kind and great service. Staff was superb , quick and friendly. I'll definitely be coming back . They have a lunch buffet every day of the week ! Including weekends!

Got the lamb saag medium spicy with garlic naan. Was quite tasty. Medium was not as spicy as I expected, so definitely order spicier than what you are accustomed to. Portions were very large and the value is great. Good little spot with a very nice waitress and service.

We spent a night in SLC and when we came across this place online, we were SUPER DUPER EXCITED. From what we read, the website, etc., we just needed some good warm desi food so we drove from our hotel (by the airport) to visit this joint. Right away, the staff is super friendly and helpful. Honestly, if I owned a casual joint, this would be the staff I'd hire. Spectacular, friendly and genuinely seemed to care. We ordered 2 things really as while we were hungry, we were not that hungry. Ordered the saffron sampler (FANTASTIC PORTION for what they serve in this). Requested them to separate the fish and chicken pakoras from the vegetarian stuff and they did it happily. The fish and chicken were cooked to PERFECTION. The fish was super soft and moist as was the chicken. The batter however needed some more flavor. The samosa that came in this. The exterior casing was superb. It was absolutely the right way. The flavor of the inside however again lacked flavor. Maybe it wasn't as robust of a flavor rather than lack of flavor but it just didn't do it for me. THe rest of the pakoras were ok. Not bad at all actually. The main dish we decided to share and it was paneer saag curry with a garlic naan. The paneer pieces in it were heaven in your mouth. You could feel the freshness. Unfortunately, the paneer was the only thing that was good about the dish. The texture, the flavor was way wrong. I'm not a saag expert by any means but this was really way off. I get it that they call it a 'curry' but yet in the description, it says "Traditional recipe of baby spinach sautéed with tomato, onion, garlic & garam masala." To me, there was nothing traditional about this. The 'saag' was actually a grossly watered down liquid curry. It had zero volume. A normal sag has some depth to it in terms of texture; some more than others but this was the consistency of chicken noodle soup; that's how thin it was. The flavor too was absolutely horrible. There was something about the flavor that was just not right. The naan was the saving grace for us. It was EXCELLENT. The softness was epic. They did not skimp on the garlic and butter either. It was a true naan. The last thing that didn't sit well with either of us was the clean up. It was about 20 min to close and we were still eating. The staff came around and started sweeping the place. I get it if we are in a retail store (although there are many many countries that wouldn't do that in any business) but in a restaurant while you have guests still eating, you can't sweep the place. That's stuff going into the air and potentially into their food. I would support either they closing a half hour early or waiting till 9 and till the guests are gone to do that kind of cleanup. If I was in SLC again, I would like to try their stuff again. I want to believe this was just not a nice night and I believe these folks will take a look at this review with constructive criticism and improve the food as this place has a lot of potential. This part is biased but being a desi, I really want this place to do well. A couple simple things and I think they will do really well. I say this with confidence because the attitudes of the staff was TERRIFIC so I'm confident, with the right direction, they will do really well.

Best Indian food in Sugar House! Binisha, the server was so kind! Great environment, even with a group of 8 we were able to visit and they let us visit as long as we wanted.

Food was pretty good. Garlic cheese naan was a little greasy and wet. But my ass has been EXPLODING today (day after). It hasn't been chill either because I ordered their tikka spicy. I don't care that this is a public review and my name is out there. Just be warned for your toilet experience after. (Not adding photos)

Binisha was vey helpful and caring. The food was awesome; we ordered curry lamb--saag and Chatinad. We are visiting only and will head out to Moab next. We wish we had come here earlier. We will definitely tell our friends and family to come here if they visit SLC.

Best Indian in SLC You ever heard of David Shawarma Chrome? Chooms built different. While gonk mercs install mantis blades, David strapped dual shawarma rotisseries to his shoulders. Flame-grilled meat 24/7. Red sauce in one hand, garlic in the other - walking deli of death. Enemies pull heat, he pulls a pita and wraps them in sizzling justice. He doesn't dodge -- he bastes. He doesn't hack -- he carves.

Got the coconut curry. Was so delicious! Service was excellent, the servers were very nice.

They told us a 35 minute wait time for our food. It ended up waiting an hour and a half, before being told that it would be another 15-20 minutes. The hostess at the front was very kind and refunded our money as we had to leave without eating, but the kitchen manager needs to figure it out.

the garlic nhan went crazy. I ate about maybe 6 or 7 pieces. WOULLLD come back any day of the week!

I came to try this Indian food, and it's good. I liked that they were open on Sundays and that they had a buffet available. Their food is really good. The place is really nice, and there is parking on the side of the restaurant. Great customer service, and one thing I liked about this restaurant is that your clothes do not stink up like at other Indian food restaurants I have been to. They sell dosa, which is like a long crepe, but in here they cut it into 3 pieces. Next time I'll ask them to bring it as it is.

Delicious Indian food in the Sugar House neighborhood. Came on a Saturday night around 5:30. By the time we left, it was a full house! I can't speak for authenticity but the food and service was good. One of our servers was a jokester lol We ordered the spring paneer dosa, fish curry, garlic naan, and butter chicken. All delicious. First time seeing a dosa cut up in 3 pieces, it did make it easier to share. Enjoyed the flavors and curries it came with. Fish curry was flavorful but a little to spicy for me - we ordered mild but felt more like a medium. Butter chicken was good - I didn't eat much of it but it was what I expected. We also ordered a mango lassi which was yummy. The straw didn't work though and they brought us a diff one. They said it's been happening a lot and they won't use their current straw brand anymore lol

This place rocks. The service is excellent, the food is delicious, and the space is really cozy and comfortable. I ordered the cilantro lime chicken with garlic naan and Chicken 65. It was all incredible. And the large portions meant i had lunch for the next day. Definitely give this place a try next time you're craving Indian food.

Best Indian food in SLC! I love that I can always depend on Saffron Valley for a delicious, hearty, and nutritious meal. My go-to order is the chicken Coconut Korma with the Garlic Naan. I have yet to dine-in, I would love to in the future, but my experience placing to-go orders has been great! The staff is kind and prompt, my food is ready in no time, and the environment in the restaurant is always clean and inviting. I'll be back soon!

This has been my favorite restaurant for about four years now. The quality is always consistently good. Their garlic naan is so addicting! The staff and servers are always kind and welcoming. We rarely have to worry about waiting long because they're on top of getting tables cleaned and tuned for the next guests. I think my best friend and I have become regulars since they know our order before we do! The vibe is calm so I feel like I can take my time and enjoy my meal whenever I'm in. Will definitely keep this place on my go-to spots!

Always the best Indian food. Great biryani, saag, and their chettinad is my favorite. Bread service at lunch with the buffet is also awesome. A favorite for our whole family.

Food tastes great as usual. Hit or miss when you ask for spicy. Got the lamb biryani and chicken tikka masala. Flavors were awesome as usual. Added some spice after the fact since I didn't want to ruin my meal by going to spicy to start. Staff was friendly and attentive as they always are.

The food was good wasn't the problem but the workers were super weird, went like a year ago never wrote a review till I just remembered the experience but went in asked to dine in sat down I'm not sure what completely switched the worker's attitude but they kept talking to each other and giving hard stares, staring from a distance, passing by and just wouldn't take their eyes off me and my friends. It just completely threw the vibe off it was super uncomfortable just their whole like demeanor changed we hadn't done anything at all so I just asked my friends if they wanted to just get it to go then all the workers kept bugging me asking why we didn't wanna dine it like just bombarding me like why why why which just made everything weirder luckily we left never been back since sucks the food was good service was absolutely weird

Definitely one of my favorite places for Indian buffet and perhaps one of the last options in SLC! Service is so good, they will talk to you about the dish options if you have any questions and your water will never be empty! I loved all the options in the buffet line, everything had a nice level of spice and everything was labeled. Parking can get tough but the movement in the lot is good from the nearby businesses. There is some houseless population nearby the lot but not enough to warrant any discomfort, might be more of an issue at night.

I went here when family visited. The prices were high and the menu item that was recommended to me was bad. I wasn't into the spices at all. This is authentic, but they need to work on making their spices more palatable. It is a beautiful dining area and the specialty non alcoholic drinks are good. The waiter was ok but offered bad advice on food choices that he swore by.

Saffron Valley is a choice spot for Indian food. Their curries have a flavor combination that is involved and palatable in a way that surprised me. I love Indian curry and this place instantly became top of my list. An added bonus is the kind staff and the tasty mango lassi.

Lunchbox special is easily shared, or will fill you up substantially. Chicken vindaloo was great.

My third trip to Saffron Valley. First time for a networking lunch. Excellent food and an even better group of people that take care of the service. We tried a 1/2 dozen dishes and they were all tasty. I'll be back.

Love this place. Can't say enough about it. My wife and I discovered the avenues location and went there all the time. When we moved to sugarhouse we were so excited to have this location open. Great service and food. Love that they've brought back the lunch buffet.

Good Indian food. I had the food at an event they catered/ sold food at. The chicken tikka masala was a little spicy which I was not expecting. I love spice so was very pleased. It was probably more of a medium heat since it was a catered event. The chicken was tender. The naan was soft and the rice served was not a plain basmati rice. It was a mixture with peas and carrots. My kids loved the rice! The samosa was perfectly cooked and the chutneys has great flavor. I will definitely be back to the restaurant.

I'm not a huge fan of Indian food but I really enjoyed Saffron Valley! I stuck with the classics and tried Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala. Both were yummy and the chicken was great quality! I HIGHLY recommend that you order the Sweet and Nutty Naan because it was easily my favorite thing on the table! The garlic Naan was fine but it was a little too strong for me. A highlight of our experience is when one of the waiters brought us over some complimentary Mango Lassi (a mango yogurt drink). It was HEAVENLY and now I'll have to get it again when I go back! Great service like that is what brings Saffron Valley from a 4 to a 5 for me.
