The Summit at Reno-- Sterling Summit, when I signed my lease-- is fine. I'm not renewing my lease for next year, but that's mostly because I want a firepit and a grill.
They've fixed a lot of the problems that I had in the first few months, and I really enjoy the new office compared to the previous iteration. Summit suffers from the fact that everyone had horror stories in their first few months (my room was unpainted on move-in, for example, and when I complained they told me they would just paint it for the next tenant... even though I still had 11 months left on my lease!), so that really flavors the view of the new management. I've been satisfied with all of my interactions with the new management since the switchover at the end of December.
I live in what's probably the most expensive 4x4. We have three premiums for an added $30 (courtyard, location, top floor), all because I made the mistake of not having a preference. Unless you really don't care, state a preference! I don't think I was tricked, but just put in that apartment for that reason. That extra $360 doesn't make the biggest deal to my family, but I do know it does for some people. If you're bringing a car, sign up for parking ASAP or you'll park in Siberia (on the far end of Building 3, which I don't live in) like I do currently. Trash service sounds lit when leasing but is a pain in the ass compared to just having a trash chute on your floor.
If you like to throw sick ragers, don't rent at Summit. If you like a really quiet apartment to study, don't rent at Summit. Summit's policies re: noise complaints involve hefty fines that don't seem to be consistently given. The parties security shuts down and fines seem to be on random basis opposed to a certain level of noise and rowdiness.
In conclusion, if you're looking at the Republic/Highlands/Summit/Identity, they're all basically the same. Summit is getting better, so it's worth being considered.
