Sagarmatha Kitchen - Review - Richmond - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"For momos, chow mein, thali, and more, there’s now Sagarmatha Kitchen in the Richmond. The Himalayan and Indian spot has a huge menu, and from the looks of it, no shortage of tables for small groups along with bar seating. For those looking for a later dinner, this place is open until 10pm daily." - Patrick Wong

After many years of living in Nepal, I can honestly say this is some of the VERY BEST authentic Nepali food I've found in San Francisco. The Thakali Thali is true traditional Nepali style and the momo's are delcious. Authentic, clean and fresh tasting food and a very welcoming environment. So happy to have this new addition to the neighborhood!

Great food. Perfect hospitality. Good taste. Nice presentation. Courteous staff. Chef came himself to take the feedback on food. Don’t forget to try the best tea in Bay Area here!!

Notice the intricate traditional patterns on the “bhote” tablecloth. It hints at the richness of flavor and health coming your way. The thakali thali came with 8 items all balanced, healthy, and delicious. A classic comfort food, and friendliest of staff took me back to my life in Nepal. For a moment, I was on Sagarmatha!

My mother and I were looking for delicious Nepali food. For it to be our first time coming here, this place did NOT disappoint! The Gobi Manchurian and Fish Curry were my favorites. Chicken Momo along with the chai was delicious. Garlic naan and shrimp chow mein were delightful. We ordered a lot of food to take an hour back home. Absolutely would come here again

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely incredible Nepalese food and hospitality! I came here with my brother and sister-in-law, who were visiting all the way from Phoenix, and we were so impressed! They ordered the chicken choila, chicken chili momo, chicken sekuwa set, and badel chili — every single dish was packed with authentic flavor and cooked to perfection. They even said this was easily the best Nepalese restaurant they’ve ever been to — and I couldn’t agree more! I made a special request for a meal without onion and garlic, and the owner was incredibly kind and accommodating. They went out of their way to prepare a delicious cauliflower curry just for me — simple, wholesome, and absolutely full of flavor. It’s rare to find that level of care and attention. The warmth of the staff, the authenticity of the food, and the heart they put into every dish truly made this a memorable experience. If you love real Nepali food — or just great food in general — Sagarmatha Restaurant is a must-visit!

Got their Thali, Momos, and Chai tea. Everything was hot, delicious, and flavorful. The service was friendly. No notes! It was great!

Google
A friend whose food tastes I trust recommended eating at Sagarmatha Kitchen. My experience exceeded expectation. Every dish I ate was something to write home about and order again. The pani puri had a delightfully crisp exterior and creamy interior. The filling of the chicken jhol momo was flavorful without being overpowering. The saag paneer had a surprising hint of smokiness that made it distinctly different from any saag paneer I've had before. Aalo bodi tama had a similar hint of smoke flavor in a tomato base dish that was gobbled down quickly. Even egg chow mein, which sounds sounds like an uneventful standard dish on the menu, would have made my belly happy if it had been the only dish on the table. The waiter was wonderful. The space is inviting and great for solo or small group dining. I'm looking forward to going back to try other dishes on the menu.

Yelp
Was in the area and decided to give this new Indian/Nepalese restaurant a try. Overall the dishes were delicious and flavorful, seemed very authentic. The ambiance of the restaurant was very casual and had plenty of seats available when we went there for lunch around 1pm. Service was quite friendly and quick. The waitress brought over waters as we sat down along with menus. She did come over a few times to refill waters and to check on our table. We got the: 1) Pani Puri(golgappa)(7/10) - This was very good! The pani puri exterior was light and crispy along with the fresh and aromatic fillings. The spicy mint water did a good job of complimenting the filling. Overall a good appetizer! Came with a total of 6 pani puris. 2) Garlic Naan(7.5/10) - Light and fluffy naan and the garlic was present but not overwhelming. A very good naan to accompany our main dishes. An order comes with 4 pieces of naan. 3) Chicken Chhiola Set(6.6/10) - My friend order this to give it a try and it was just okay. The curry/sauce that came with the chicken was flavorful and decent. Chicken was cooked well and still juicy. It comes with a Chiura(beaten rice), which kind of resembles oatmeal. There isn't any flavor to it, until you mix it together with the sauced chicken. Texture wise, it reminded me of small corn flakes without the corn flavor; it was an interesting dish. There were also 2 sides. A curry spiced cucumber salad; this was lightly spiced with curry and was refreshing as a palette cleanser. The cucumbers were still crunchy. The other side was a sort of black soybean salad; we weren't a fan of this given how hard the beans were. The flavor was good, but those beans felt like that can break a tooth. 4) Chili Badel(7.8/10) - This was my favorite dish that we had! Very flavorful and spicy(I opted for spicy level and it was just the right amount). The wild boar was pretty good, not gamey at all. It was on the leaner side for certain portions and resembled jerky a bit, but was still chewable. The savory spicy sauce pepper sauce that accompanied the wild boar was what made the dish! 5) Kheer(Rice Pudding)(7/10) - This was given to use as a complimentary dessert by the waitress. A decent dessert, lightly sweetened a with a hint spices(I think it was cardamom). My friend wasn't a fan given she didn't like the spice, but overall I did enjoy it as it was a nice refresher after a somewhat heavy and savory meal. Overall, an interesting dive into Nepalese dishes that were more authentic and less known. Would come back to give their other specialties a try when I'm feeling a bit more adventurous such as their buffalo or goat intestines dish!

Yelp
Sagamatha is the official Nepali name for Mount Everest, meaning "Godess of the Sky". Tried this restaurant recently for delivery and dined in. What's good: *butter chicken - it was delicious. *saag paneer - good. Even tho hubby ordered this mild, it's still spicy. *garlic cheese naan - it tasted good, thought it would be more cheese stuffed but it's not. What can be improved: *shrimp chow mein - chow mein was delicious but the shrimp was overcooked and dry. *tandoor chicken - too salty, maybe dial back the salt a bit. *mango lassi - tasted a bit off, maybe bad batch? Service was nice but a little slow and we saw lots of delivery orders, so maybe that's why.

Yelp
We went there for an early dinner on a Saturday afternoon and parking was I ordered the Thakkali thaali with goat curry. The sides were all as good as I had hoped and although they served the chicken curry, I didn't mind it so much as the wait staff was sweet enough to acknowledge their mistake and offered to take the food back and bring back what I had ordered in the first place. Of all the sides, my favorite was the lentil soup, also known as daal. The mustard and potato pickle, a uniquely Nepali dish usually served cold, also tasted quite authentic. If you're looking for an authentic Nepali meal, definitely do stop by.

Yelp
A new restaurant on Geary! I don't know a ton about Nepalese food but I really liked it. Like Indian food but different in ways I have trouble describing. I got the Thakali Thali Mutton, I wanted to try a bit of a bunch of stuff because it was my first time there. It was a *lot* of food. Even more than it looks in the photo because those slices of cucumber were also unusually large. But though it was a lot of food it wasn't too heavy either, not very oily. There was a little dish of what seemed like oil that I wasn't too sure what to do with, maybe it's for people who like more oil on their food? Prices overall seem very reasonable. Next time I'll try some of the more unique dishes they have, there was a lot that I'd never had before. I usually get food medium spicy, I had a feeling I should get it mild here and I was right. It's very quiet right now, hopefully it gets busier because I hope it sticks around.

Yelp
I was walking by Sagarmatha this morning and noticed that the restaurant owners along with friends and family were performing grand opening rites. So I had to come back for dinner and drop the first Yelp review for this new Nepali restaurant on Geary! BTW the restaurant name "Sagarmatha' is the Nepali name for Mt. Everest. The menu is very legit and they have several unique Nepali dishes. Dhido for example is reminiscent of Fufu but millet flour based and is eaten instead of rice in many parts of Nepal. Never seen it in the US! And then they have the obligatory Momos and Chowmein items which I will come back and try. Today I decided to go with a classic mutton Thali and a completely unique goat intestine dish called "Khasi ko Bhutan" that I've never seen at any other Nepalese restaurant. Both items were very authentic and perfectly spiced and cooked just right. Reminded me of my home stay in Nepal. Bone in mutton curry which is the centerpiece of the thali was as good as it gets with the fluffy rice. Accompanying daal and mixed vegetable thali items were also fantastic. And the Kheer dessert that comes with the thali was also excellent with the right level of consistency and sweetness. There have been a half dozen Nepali restaurants that have popped up in SF over the last year or so. Most feel obligated to overwhelm their menus with classic North Indian fare rather than Nepali dishes. I really appreciate that Sagarmatha dares to offer truly unique and authentic Nepali fare. Can't wait to go back and explore more of their menu.

Enjoyed my fav buff sukuti & buff chili over the weekend. Did not like momo so much but good service made it up. Made my day with day complimentary dessert. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
We went for lunch last week when we were in sf and everyone was starving, so we decided to try this place based on a recommendation and I'm so glad we did! The food was amazing. We ordered four Thakali chicken sets, one Thakali mutton set, and some naan. Everything was cooked perfectly. I've been to places where the meat has a really strong tomato taste, but here it was seasoned just right and had that perfect chewy texture I love. The service was awesome from start to finish, and the interior was super nice too. I'm not from SF, but I'm so happy I got to try this new Nepali restaurant, definitely recommend checking it out! Yelp
We tried the khasi taas set, bhutan set and buff jhol momo and all three items were 10/10 in terms of taste and quality, took me back to the streets of Kathmandu :) Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
5/5 for the food! I came across Sagarmatha a week or so ago and was super excited to see a new Nepalese/Indian restaurant open up in the neighborhood. I ordered in Chicken Curry and Tandoori chicken and both were delicious - some of the best preparations I have had in the city at this price point. Would love to go in there and experience the service and ambiance next. For now, super happy with the quality and taste of the food.

Yelp
This place is new and we tried it on the strength of the other reviews. It did not disappoint!! The momos were amazing. We also had buff sukuti, butter chicken, and nepali soup. Wish we had room for dessert. Great, attentive service and a soulful ambiance established by movie soundtrack type music playing in the background. Would absolutely go again and recommend it!!

Yelp
Sagarmatha Kitchen is such a gem. We ordered the samosa chaat, veggie jhol momo, and egg chow mein. Everything was fantastic - delicious and well spiced. The momos were the best we've had in the city so far. We look forward to coming again!

Yelp
Today,i ordered a mutton thakali thai set and the food was so good . It is such a good pleasure to have a nepali restaurant with such a good ambience and a service and the prices are so reasonable. I think everyone one should give a one try to this restaurant they deserve more. Best Nepali food i ever had in my life and a best Nepali restaurant in this whole bay area. Come on, visit the restaurant and give your thoughts.

Shreyash B.

Yelp
I think this restaurant genuinely has the best and most authentic Nepalese food in SF and there's no comparison. The buff momo was amazing! Mutton taas and Bhutan were also very good. The waiter and the owner was also very friendly!

Alex S.

Yelp
Surprised this is their first yelp review . The Nepalese staff is very welcoming and friendly . The location next to Shell gas / 7-11 on Fulton @ Geary seems to be a cursed location with high turnover. No liquor license yet . Maybe in a few weeks the permit will kick in . I ordered the Cheese Naan with a specialty item from the menu , Badel Sadeko . Delicious I requested medium spice and the Wild boar with ginger onions tomato and other seasoning was great with the Naan accompaniment . Meat was a little tough and gamely but that's normal . I will return soon to try the lamb dishes and curry . Come check this unique restaurant out . P.S. I learned their name is the native term for Mount Everest . Mahalo
