If you have a craving for French cuisine, but can't make it to the city, this would be an okay choice. The duck was dry and the mussels were not really fresh. But I highly recommend the service and steak tartare. I do not think I'll ever go back under my own volition.

A very busy place on Saturday evening. Our reservation was honored and our table was waiting for us. They have an extensive menu with a large variety of large portion meals. We brought leftovers home. And we had no room for dessert after appetizers were shared before the main plates. The pork chop was large! A little light on vegetarian dishes. We recommend you give it a try.

I went there for my sister’s birthday and the food was amazing! The service was amazing!

Went here for dinner with some friends and had a great time. The staff and service were great. Loved the cocktails. The food was good but lacking any robust flavors. I had ordered a French Onion Pork chop for entree and mussels in garlic tomato and basil sauce for appetizer. The mussels were cooked well but I felt the dish was lacking basil flavors and stronger on garlic. The pork chop perhaps was cooked too well done and dry for my liking. My wife had duck with basmati rice and that was probably the best item on our table. Overall a good experience but maybe it left more to be said about the food. Might need to try other items before calling this spot a fav or not.

I don't understand the hype for this place at all. The food was quite mediocre... Everything was over seasoned and the menu was misleading. The zucchini pancakes were actually crispy and fried. Had it specified that I would have opted for something else. Also, the online menu is outdated both in terms of offerings and prices. Lemon creme brulee, the main reason I wanted to try this place, was nowhere to be found. They had the standard run of the mill version which I didn't want. The dessert I did try, the fresh fruit napoleon was the saddest excuse for a napoleon I have ever seen with a very flat and not at all puffed pastry layers, runny almost watery pastry cream and a very stingy couple of blueberries. Save your money and dine just about anywhere else.

After getting tired of all the same Italian, Greek and American cuisine every week, tonight I decided to try a local French restaurant in Syosset/Woodbury area. First time here and I have to say the food and service was excellent! Starting with the cocktail menu, the Midnight in Paris pear martini was amazingly refreshing. The escargot is delicious with wonderful seasoning. The seafood salad was refreshing and the bouliabaise was out of this world!. Finished off with a cappuccino and creme Brule and I was in heaven! I definitely would recommend Sage Bistro Moderne and will be coming back again.

Update 10/13/2023 Another great experience. Our server Liz was exceptional and the food outstanding! This place is a consistent winner! --------‐‐---------------------------------- This is a very special place with delicious food and fantastic service. Djamel was our bartender and server. He made us feel like we were in his home and we were his guests. If I had business he would be the guy I would want to be the face of the business. As for the food...so delicious. The oysters were so fresh and sweet. Tremendous! The beef bourguignon was one of the best dishes that I ever had. The Manhattan was also very good. Btw - My wife had the Lobster Bisque and my father had the Thai Calamari. Both were excellent! I didn't have dessert. However my wife and father had the creme broule! They said it was fantastic! I could come here everyday and be totally happy! Check it out!

Google
Located in a Shopping Center on Jericho Turnpike servicing Woodbury and the adjoining areas of Nassau County. Plenty of parking and a wheelchair accessible entrance. Clean facilities. Outdoor dining facilities. Typical Bistro Style Cuisine. Escargot, Steak Frites, and Beef Bourgineon was great. Staff is nice, but could have been more attentive to refilling our drinks. They never asked. Credit cards accepted. We will most likely be going back..

Yelp
Food was nice and service very pleasant. I had lobster bisque soup and my company ordered pappardelle with meat. Cozy nice place to eat dinner or have a glass of wine! Will come back again:) Thank you

Yelp
I was invited to a family party held at Sage Bistro recently and it was my first time visiting but it definitely won't be the last! It looks small when you first walk in but the back really opens up and I like when restaurants have booth seating. The service was phenomenal, we were a large private party and everyone's drinks were always filled, both alcoholic and non. I really enjoyed my appetizer and dessert, my entrée was just okay but it was, again, a large event so I'm sure that's part of why. The personalized menus for our party weren't clear on what came on the steak and ultimately I think I would've enjoyed another dish better but that's no fault of the bistro. Can't wait to come back here for date night to try some French cuisine!

Yelp
Mother's Day Brunch went well. We were all happy with our orders, and the prices were reasonable. I would go back.

Yelp
This is just an update of my previous reviews. We still love it. At 6:00 PM on Saturday night, when we arrived, there were still several tables available, but by 7:30, it was full. My appetizer was just a straightforward cold shrimp cocktail, except (pardon the oxymoron) the four shrimp were very large. My wife and friend split the shrimp avocado tower (salad) appetizer. It looks small (see photo), but it was enough for two and they enjoyed it. This time, my entree was the filleted branzino, tonight served with green beans, almonds, and onions (see photo). The two pieces were thick and thin, well cooked, but juicy in a delicious sauce. Again, I love their crispy crusted French baguette with butter plate.

Yelp
The prices on the website are way out of date. Nice place, good service. Shrimp bisque and coffee very good. Want to be able to give four stars, but the chicken was dry, and the bread hard. Don't think I'll be back...and c'mon, $14 for a Bellini?

Yelp
Tried out Sage Bistro during restaurant week. We came in on a rainy Sunday evening and while we had a reservation, they had plenty of open tables. Ambiance and decor in the restaurant is very nice with the tables set back behind the bar. We did order from the Pre-fix menu, but started by sharing the zucchini pancakes (not on the pre-fix menu) which were really good. I then had the Lobster bisque, which was OK but definitely needed more lobster and my husband had the grilled chicken flatbread- which was large enough to take some home with us. For main courses I had the moules frites- the mussels had plenty of sauce and were good but the fries weren't thin and crispy like I am used too, they were thick frozen fries. My husband had the linguini and clams which was also O. We both finished with the pumpkin bread pudding which was really good. Glad we tried someplace new, especially with the option of the restaurant week menu.

Yelp
if I could give zero stars I would. Ordered a steak medium. first time it came out the steak was not cooked at all inside. I asked for them to add some fire to it to make it medium. the waiter takes it back and then brings it out again still completely raw inside and there is little doubt there was nothing done to alleviate the situation. waiter takes it back again (I am trying this entire time to be nice because I know people make mistakes) then comes out and the steak is now burnt. I try to speak to the owner to tell him what's going on and the first thing out of his mouth (while I am still speaking in a nice manner) is WELL YOURE NOT GETTING ANOTHER STEAK. he was EXTREMELY rude, I did say don't speak to me in that manner. he said then order something else off the menu and by this time I was very aggregated at being spoken to in that way. he then proceeds to follow me back to my table to use my knife to "inspect" the steak. he states it wasn't burnt while completely neglecting to acknowledge the black charred crust. I said to take it off the bill, he replied you already ate it (i had one bite the third time it came out to confirm the burnt status of the charred piece of meat in front of me). he then proceeded to grab away the plate as I said I want nothing else and to simply take it off of the bill. I then left and had to walk up and down the outside of the shopping center to cool down after being spoken to and treated in such a repulsive and reprehensible manner. in addition, I had been there several times in the past and the people with me, who were fairly embarrassed by situation, are there very often and are known people by the entire staff and owner. I am now left hangry and agitated. the one bite of potato I was able to have with the charred bite of blackened meat was good.

Yelp
Nice place but the salad was so soggy and the chicken was undercooked . The French onion soup was very good though .

Yelp
A great birthday dinner at Sage!! Food, ambience and service were outstanding! We had the octopus with hummus (so good), the filet mignon tacos (omg) and mussels in white wine, garlic (finger licking broth) for appetizers. Our main was the rack of lamb which was so tender, it was like butter! Dessert with a surprise candle was crepe Suzette along with a cappuccino. The night was terrific!

Yelp
It's pretty spacious inside but you wouldn't see that from outside. Staff were very friendly and welcoming! Had their flavorful french onion soup which was really good, no wonder it's popular! For our entrees we had the pecan chicken which was really good, pecan breading was a great touch and came with sweet potatoes, however I don't remember seeing that on the menu and thought it came with mashed potatoes. My husband had the rack of lamb which he said the meat melted off the bones and wants to come back for this next time. Our friends had the steak with pepper sauce which was also flavored well, the sauce was divine, French onion pork chop which tasted like French onion and was so pretty plated and the grilled chicken salad. We ended with a warm apple pie and raspberry compote which I didn't think I'd like because I'm not a fan of raspberry but was very good! Better than the apple pie!

Yelp
Excellent French onion soup. Exceptional duck l'orange. Good wine selection. Courteous service staff.

Yelp
I was looking for a French restaurant near the Nassau Suffolk border and I found Sage Bistro here on Yelp. I was very impressed by the ambiance, waitstaff, and of course the food! The Spinach/Artichoke Dip appetizer was kept warm by a flame underneath the bowl, and toasted pita were provided for dipping. The warm slices of crunchy-crusted bread, served with butter, were also excellent platforms for the dip. I ordered the Filet Mignon Salad (asked for no cheese) and had 3 delicious, tender medallions of steak, on a bed of greens, apples, walnuts and more. For dessert I had an apple tart with Hazelnut ice cream and an espresso. It was an excellent meal, and moderately inexpensive for a Saturday lunch. Will definitely return!

Yelp
We were a table of 8 and there was a very large bug in my food. I almost ate it. Absolutely nauseating. My friend got sick but the owner never apologized and, in fact, mocked us over the size of the bug. The kitchen must be absolutely filthy for them to find this funny. The bug was gross but the customer service was worse!! They should be ashamed.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Worst dinner in my life! We're a party of 8, had appetizers and drinks, then the chicken pollard comes out with a huge bug on the lettuce. No apologies from the owner or the waiter. We tell them to give us a menu, but they give us the same dish (I think they just freshened it up), then when we say no, they act like we're being too fussy. We had desserts and when the bill comes, nothing off. They finally remove one dinner. Worst yet, the owner makes fun of us over the size of the bug, like it's no big deal. This place is a health hazard!!!

Yelp
Food: 3 stars Service: 4 stars Environment: 3 stars Cleanness: 3 stars COVIDproof: 4 stars Menu with variety of choices, mix with American burgers and lobster rolls to French style of soups and mussels and seafoods; if you're new with French dishes you could still easily make selections no sweat :) Maybe it was during lunch time, the beef bourguignon wasn't on the menu; though they're willing to make it for me. I was flattered they went extra mill for their customer and silently gave them additional star on their service. The dish was taking extra time to make but all is understandable. However the portion did have room to improve. Seafood pasta was full flavored and the owner was very generous on the shrimps clams and mussels. Slightly spicy noted. Outdoor seating only, and staffs all wearing masks the whole time; Restaurant is doing its best to follow the guidelines. I am fully supporting that!

Yelp
Man I've had this place bookmarked forever and I can finally say I got here! Service at lunch was superior and can only imagine what it's like at dinner. The restaurant is quaint and rather quiet at lunch but that's alright with me. I personally had the burger just because I thought it'd be tasty with some gruyere on it and damn was I right. The side of fries and salad were also phenomenal. Definitely did not finish anything on my plate and had my fella been with me he would've probably shook his head at me and told me that my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I will be back... TRUST me!

Lindsay M.

Yelp
Everything was lovely about this dining experience. There's an old school charm to the restaurant (which definitely attracts an older crowd). The ambiance is pleasant and inviting, the food is wonderful, and the cocktails are calm and balanced. The staff is friendly, funny, and welcoming. The prices are reasonable given the high quality of the food. Highly recommend for a low key date night.

Yelp
Came here with a large party of 8 on Friday night. We asked for outdoor seating as someone in the party is immunocompromised and they made sure we were super warm with all of the heating lamps! The staff were super kind and funny to talk to, also super attentive. I ordered the steak frites rare and it came out beautifully red! It was sooooo tasty every single bite felt like a dream. Others at the table ordered scallops in rissoto, linguine and clam sauce as well as the steak frites. Everyone loved what they ordered and thought every bite was to die for. We shared desserts such as the chocolate mousse I have pictured. It was absolutely delicious. It was my first time here and I really enjoyed my time and would absolutely come back again!

Yelp
Mediocre all around. Came here tonight for a surprise that my boyfriend planned for Valentine's Day. When we first walked in we were seated right away as we had a reservations. For an appetizer I ordered a French onion soup which was okay flavor wise. Nothing popped. Then for my entree I had the chicken with the squash purée. It was so so. The chicken was a bit rubbery for my taste. The purée delicious thought very flavorful. Service wasn't the greatest. So many waiters yet they all clung to one area at the restaurant. I asked for an additional drink and nobody ever got it. It wasn't memorable, kinda pricey, and for that I won't be back.

Yelp
My waiter was amazing perfect service Louis is amazing def come here breadon the spot bacon is amazing coming back everyday

Yelp
I mean, I love everything this group does. I got the filet mignon sliders and I can't say enough. Ample portion and mouth wateringly delicious. Service was superb. Overall a great experience. Do it for a romantic evening, a lunch with some flair, or just because you love French food. I'll be back.
google avatar

Joanna S.

Yelp
Food was very good. We enjoyed the following apps: eggplant meatballs (8/10), shrimp (9/10). For an entree I chose the steak medallion salad and it was very tasty, steak was cooked as expected. The service is the reason for -1 star. The host seemed annoyed with us the whole time. Server never refreshed drinks.

Nick M.

Yelp
Food had a big bug in it they made it out to be joke! Management is the worst! He mocked us about the bug and also fruit flies on food!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for date night during restaurant week to finally try this place. Delicious food and great service! Was a perfect date night. My hubs also loved his food and drink.

Vincent L.

Yelp
Place was tight with tables for comfort. The nearness of the tables were uncomfortable. It was loud. Food was average. The host/Manager was not friendly. I was overcharged for an item I did not order. Had to jump through hoops for the manager to credit the item. Staff was ok. Manager was rough.
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Food and service excellent but ordered boeuf borguignon that had no mushrooms in it. That's odd. And had a mojito that was served in the wrong type of glass making it smaller than normal (at other places). At their prices cocktail should have been served in the correct glass. Place really pricey (ex. ice cream scoop-sized side of mashed potatoes was $11) so be prepared to spend.

Yelp
Food was great, service was excellent, ambiance was great. The lamb chops were amazing.

Yelp
I felt Sunday brunch was decent. I came with reservations on a Sunday in February .. the heat was PUMPING it was 4,000 degrees lol my biggest complaint was the service. Our server was kind and attentive BUT he knew absolutely nothing about the wine he was serving. At a French bistro, the wine is a big part of the meal and he just had no clue. We ordered a wine tasting which doesn't list the price , and just says 75? On the menu.... but the server never said which white wine was which ... or explained them or literally anything. My mom ordered a glass afterwards and it was the wrong one. The chicken pillaird was pretty good but very basic .... a chicken salad essentially . My mom liked her salmon but it looked simple as well. I think I'd skip this spot and go to bar frites.

Mary Rose P.

Yelp
Bugs!! Large fruit flies over our food and drinks in JANURY. In the wine glass at the next table. Had to leave early and still charged for the appetizer. DISGUSTING. Someone should call the Board of Health.

Yelp
Anyone who peeks at my feed knows that I am as regular as bran cereal when it comes to my dining places/choices. Sage Bistro is no exception. I don't live near Woodbury but it's in my territory for work. They have four locations yet I haven't ventured to any other venues despite Anis' prompting. First question when I saddle up to the bar for lunch is "what's the soup of the day?" Never disappointed and always pleasantly surprised at the variation and creativity. Most recently was an Apple & Potato pureé with goat cheese garnish. Amazing. French bistro Vibe right down to the musique and al fresco dining. Can't wait to try their Rockville Center location.

Yelp
Not sure how they do it. Being one of a few places open on xmas, they weren't overwhelmed, pleasant. Would have stayed longer, but I needed to get holidays eats home. So food preparation Presentation, satisfied.

Lauren S.

Yelp
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here Saturday night. Service was spot on and the food was incredible! What more can I say? Expensive, but if you want to treat yourself to a nice more upscale dinner out you definitely need to check this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
Busy place...mussels as apps were good. Thats where it ends for the good. Took almost 90 minutes for the main course to come out. I had rack of lamb which was gray meat with gray sauce that tasted like grayness. Potatoes had no taste and broc. rabe was soso. Tuna was also on boring. Best part was leaving.

Yelp
Speaking of Sunday Brunch Menu only: Knowing what the aperitif restaurant is like I was really excited to come here....Upon entering I was greeted by the host and brought to a table in the back corner. I would say upon first glance the bar was very nice but the actual dining area was such a conglomerate of decor and dated. The acrylic chandeliers and red walls and black paisley booths really didn't make for a French vibe but I know this place has good reviews so I put the decor behind me. The server came to the table and he was nice but never introduced himself (i like to give credit where credit is due on here so knowing his name would have been nice) but he was very soft spoken and kind of quiet. The app for brunch was a mini muffin and a small croissant (ones i buy at costco). For a drink I ordered the "Midnight in Paris" which was a pear drink. I didn't taste any pear at all and it wasn't great tbh. Still I had high hopes for the food! Looking at the menu especially for brunch, I would think they could have knocked it out the park with a variety of crepes, combinations on a croissant, cheese and fruit platters.....but it was very basic. Plus not to mention the price especially for the portion size. Overall it was just okay but maybe I will try going for dinner sometime as this place does have many other good reviews.

Yelp
Food is amazing are many options that are all great. Service is very good the waiters are so nice highly recommend this restaurant

Yelp
9 years in this location, and upon my second visit I have to say it's ok. The menu has not changed from 6 years ago, which was my first experience. Its positioned in a great location-center stage in the shopping center. The staff needs updating as they seemed to be going through the motions. To make any experience extraordinary you need to come alive, be upbeat your service is a performance, work it!

Yelp
Great meal! I went for restaurant week and had the shrimp & scallop fricasee with truffle sauce. It was delicious and creamy. I had the sage bistro salad with roasted beets which was as good as a salad can be. The trout was fresh and the escargot was tender. The panna cotta was creamy and I think it had fig jam on top. Service was excellent and the decor was modern enough. We dined inside although they have a good outdoor dining setup.

Tony M.

Yelp
I enjoyed their dinner in the past but tried their brunch. In short, it wasn't good. The service was fine but the food was subpar and wasn't impressed with the drinks either. We both ordered the chicken sandwich on a baguette with the dipping broth. The baguette was stale to the point the ends were hard and the chicken was somewhat dry. The high note was the fries were good.

Khalida S.

Yelp
Love this place .. my favorite place to go for dinner after a long day .. have been going to this restaurant for 10 years French onion soup is awesome and tuna tartar is sooo delicious

Nicolette S.

Yelp
First time here, it was decent . The filet mignon was very saucy barely tasted the meat the sauce was extremely over powering. I would rate it a 1/10.. the calamari was pretty decent 5/10 the sauce used again was pretty overpowering and salty. The calamari's texture was as if it was fresh. Shame I couldn't taste it much. For an entree I order the pecan crusted chicken breast. It was pretty good could've been better. The squash purée was pretty good along with the leeks and mushroom sauce. I'd give it a 7/10 all together. The prices are a bit much I will say even if it's a French Bistro the quality of the food overall is decent.

Yelp
Came to this bistro here at the recommendation of a fellow yelper and I am glad I did. I came to eat here with a friend on a Sunday night and experienced a real treat. I called ahead because I was arriving a little late for a Sunday and didn't want to be rushed out. I was friendly encouraged to come on in and so we did. The place was a little hard to find as it is located way back in a shopping strip which is already set back itself from the main Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury. After pulling in out of various lots, we finally discovered the hidden path leading to the bistro (Nisen is about 3 doors down). The façade of the bistro is very impressive and exudes sheer modern elegance. I was worried I was underdressed, but went in anyway. I was immediately greeted by a friendly manager and one of the waiters where were promptly led to out table. The bistro itself is gorgeously decorated as one would imagine a French modern bistro would look like. I've added some photos to the review as it would be too lengthy to describe the décor. The food was amazing yet simple. Escargot soaked in garlic and covered with toast point was one of the highlights of the meal. Seafood salad in a lemon vinaigrette over greens was fresh and plentiful. Boeuf Bourguignon must have cooked for days as the meat was so tender and infused with a deep red wine flavor and a hint of sourness reminiscent to sauerbraten - easily my favorite sample I had here. For dessert, the crème brulee had a nice balance of vanilla and lemon which was freshly blow torched in a traditional ramekin, and was a perfect ending to our meal. The wine menu was comprehensive and superb! We couldn't have asked for better service to boot. Albeit, there were only 3 other tables in the place, but I certainly will not hold this excuse for the excellent treatment we received. I highly recommend this place to any lover of French food or those willing to expand their horizons. For Long Island, this would be a great place to start.

Yelp
Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, acoustics and service by Renee. I absolutely recommend it if you are in the area.

Yelp
Went here for restaurant week, they had a great deal. Escargot and mussels were a 10/10. Service was a little slow, but to be expected during the pandemic. Great atmosphere too!!

Yelp
Very nice place in a Woodbury shopping strip center - (Bens, Starbucks etc). French bistro with full bar and restaurant, and outdoor tables. I tried their dover sole / fish of the day - herbs lemon, capers wine - french! Although I prefer plain fish with herbs if anything, this is a french bistro so there was plenty of flavor. Exceptionally pleasant people and place.

Brian M.

Yelp
Was really looking forward to the croque monsier at brunch. Disappointing is the one word that comes to mind. Flavors were ok but it lacked cohesiveness. Was basically ham on toast with melted cheese on top and a fried egg which was cooked way too long. The filet mignon sliders were ok. The standout was the French fries. Crepes suzette for dessert were tasty too. I probably wouldn't return but everybody has different taste so I urge you to at least give it a try. The service was good and the restaurant is accessible (don't know about restrooms) and there is plenty of accessible parking. And still reasonably priced unlike some places lately.
google avatar

Yelp
Went to dinner Sunday night 6/30. Ran out of tuna, calamari, fillet mignon and swordfish. What kind of establishment runs out of 25 percent of their entrees?? Manager said it happens and walked away from table when questioned. Service was good. Food orders well prepared. But cannot Get over shortage and attitude of manager.

Yelp
STAY AWAY! I went here with some friends Saturday night and ordered from the restaurant week menu. I got the duck strudel, the white wine mussels, and the profiteroles. The duck strudel was just fine. The mussels had absolutely no flavor. As I was chewing, I kept biting into something hard -either sand or pieces of shell. It was disgusting. I can usually inhale a huge pot of mussels, but I was done with these after just a few. Later the night, I got violently ill. I have never been so sick in my life from food. Let's just say I am sure it was the mussels. The profiteroles were so stale, masked with ice cream and what tasted like Hershey's syrup.

John M.

Yelp
Had a wonderful birthday dinner and all of us got exactly what we wanted from a menu with a variety of interesting choices. The cocktails and wine options were spot on and I don't think we could have been much happier with meal.
