The building that comprises Sagebrush dates back to the 1940s, and the various clubs it has housed have some history in Austin music lore. When you pull up outside, you'll swear this place belongs somewhere in a rural town, and it probably used to be out in the hinterlands, but Austin has grown up around it. Nevertheless, it still feels a bit rustic and Wild Wild West. I don't think they have air conditioning. Dress accordingly.
Inside, a large, decorative bar spans the first half of the right side of the room. They offer multiple beers on tap and a full array of alcohol, with drink specials posted. Prices are average for a south Austin bar.
To the left is a lounge section with rustic tables and chairs and a stage tucked back against the front wall. This is where bands play that you'll mostly want to sit and watch. The back half of the room is a dance floor with a larger raised stage, which is where they feature bands that people will mostly want to dance to. Fair warning that it's country dancing, and these are country bands.
Out the door to the back, you'll find a rather large backyard with a couple of food trucks and another stage. I haven't been to a show out there or seen the food trucks in action, perhaps because it's been the hottest summer on record in Austin and no one wants to be outside in the sun. But it looks like a great place for a concert.
There's always been a cover charge when I've been, usually $5, but it may be higher for bigger shows. Check their website for details.
Parking is tricky, because their surrounding lot is limited. You may be able to find parking up the street, but as with most clubs, I highly recommend carpooling or ride share. A DD is always a good idea anyway.
