"Transport yourself back to a long, long time ago. More specifically, the month of March 2020, when you couldn’t even find a bag of sad, dry pasta in a supermarket. Now you can eat fresh agnolotti with crab and ricotta at Sager and Wilde. We love this Bethnal Green spot for its big archway terrace that’s perfect for a summer hang." - heidi lauth beasley
"Sager + Wilde is a great wine bar and cosy spot to know about on Hackney Road when you want to be led astray by the smell of crispy, gooey, melted cheese toasties. It’s an intoxicating scent, but once you’ve wolfed one of them down, you should check out the wine list. They’ve got everything from natural to fortified covered, as well as a cocktail menu. "This Hackney Road spot can be a little bit beard-strokey, but it’s a cool and comfortable place to grab a couple of drinks later on, as it’s open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. There’s a huge wine list, but the ‘by the glass’ list is accessible price-wise and will trigger a classic case of orange versus chilled red. "Fire hazard status: too cool to burn, would simply smoulder Sager + Wilde is a little Hackney vino fortress and the level of dimly lit here is akin to a period show where there’s just enough candlelight to see Damian Lewis’ eyes twinkle excitedly at the mention of a Boleyn sister. Outside of the odd soft globe light, it’s all trendy ceramic candle holders and cream tapers flickering along the bar. There’s a huge wine list but we’ve got a soft spot for their blackboard menu of by-the-glass options—think light, zippy Beaujolais Nouveaus and Côte-Rôtie sip-and-nurse numbers." - heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna
"Like watching Jaws: The Revenge in a Bella Freud jumper, high-low culture is Sager + Wilde's personal brand. This cool wine bar is hunkered down in an old railway arch. Inside there are flickering candles and beautiful, vintage-looking chairs, but also the exposed curve of corrugated railway above. Nibble on crayfish and blood orange, and twirl pasta around your fork in a bar that’s both so close and so far from a soggy train station sandwich and a packet of Walkers." - team infatuation
