New Restaurants and Bars That Have Opened in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"This swanky nightlife venue from Starlight Hospitality Group occupies the former Home & Away space and feels like an 80-seat supper club and lounge with DJ-fueled entertainment on weekends and late-night hours (open until at least 1 a.m.). The dinner menu mixes seafood and comfort items—oysters and hamachi crudo alongside a burger and pizzas—and brunch is offered on Saturdays and Sundays. Cocktails tilt tropical, with creations that combine caramelized pineapple–infused tequila, a homemade chili tincture, and pina colada foam." - Candice Woo

Sago Encinitas is an absolute gem! From start to finish, our experience was phenomenal. The portions are generous for a tapas-style restaurant, so you can try a variety of dishes without feeling rushed. Every dish we had was outstanding. The chicken and caviar was rich and flavorful, the Mi Goreng noodles were perfectly seasoned, and the Wagyu and chicken skewers were cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the tuna tartare and hamachi crudo, which were fresh, delicate, and beautifully presented. You can’t leave without trying the lobster bao. The drinks are just as impressive as the food. Our favorites were the Number 9, which was phenomenal, and every cocktail we tried was crafted with care. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the evening feel extra special. The live music starting at 8 adds a wonderful vibe, making it perfect for either a romantic date night or a fun girls’ night out. The ambiance is cozy yet lively, and the attention to detail in both the food and service really sets Sago apart. Honestly, everything about this spot exceeded our expectations. Can’t wait to come back and explore more of the menu. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable evening in Encinitas!

This is THE vibe in Encinitas! The lush jungle-theme aesthetic is perfection on the main street. I came when they first opened last year, and I thought the flavors were even better and portions more filling this time! They also revamped the new front bar area so it's more open for bar seating and lounging. Absolute favs are the soft shell crab (2 meaty pieces with rice and curry), lobster baos, and divine fried chicken and caviar. We loved everything we ordered plus the presentation was beautiful too. This will be your favorite spot for an upscale date night or girl's night out, with drinks, live DJ, and solid Asian-fusion menu!

Google
Love SAGO!! My go to spot in Encinitas for a GNO or date night. The aesthetic is obviously stunning, their asian fusion food is SO good and the servers were great! The plates are all shareable and I've tried nearly everything, my favorites are The Lobster Bao Buns, Tuna Sashimi, Mie Goreng (noodles) & Wagyu Skewers. They also have a great cocktail menu, my go-to is the strawberry gin drink. If you're looking for a vibey spot with delicious food, this is the spot!

We love a night out at SAGO! We’ve been a couple of times now and we love that they have live music and vibrant & flavorful dishes! It’s perfect for a date night or night out with the girls! Highly recommend for both locals or visitors! Their craft cocktails are so good too!

Google
10/10 recommend SAGO. Sago is worth the hype. The ambiance is incredible. In addition to that, literally everything we tried was insanely good. The vibe is shareable foods which is nice because you can try a few dishes!

Google
The service here is spot on: friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to steer you in the right direction. The menu delivers across the board, but the lobster bao buns with caviar easily steal the show — rich, playful, and the kind of dish you’ll be talking about on the drive home. Nothing else disappointed, which says a lot considering how ambitious the kitchen leans. Cocktails and wine were equally on point — balanced, creative, and clearly curated with intention. Add in the sleek atmosphere and laid-back Encinitas energy, and Sago more than passes the vibe check. Whether you’re looking for a proper night out or just want to treat yourself, this is a spot that deserves a visit. Solid four stars, and one I’d happily come back to.

Google
Sago was amazing! The vibes were beautiful like stepping into a lush jungle oasis. The food was delicious (the chicken caviar was my absolute fav!) and the drinks were the best!! Definitely recommend this restaurant for a romantic date night or a fun evening out with the girls!

Google
Sago had been on my list for a long time and it exceeded all my expectations! We ordered two appetizers and three entrées and were perfectly satisfied. Everything felt light, nourishing, and well curated. We tried the No. 9 and the No. 10 both a 10/10. The staff was very kind and welcoming. We will be back!

Yelp
I was walking around Encinitas and a friend recommended Sago, so I stopped by. Google said they opened at 3 PM, but the doors were locked when I showed up around 4. I called and they said they actually open at 5, so just FYI, the hours online on google aren't right. The menu was a little hard to read at first, but everything we tried was so good. The Cucumber Salad was honestly one of the best salads I've ever had - super refreshing, a little citrusy, kind of like a green curry vibe but lighter and more tangy. The Chicken Satay and Noodles were both really solid too. They were already out of the Tuna Sashimi and Fried Chicken and Caviar right when they opened, which was kind of surprising, but hopefully just a one-off thing. We got the Banana Old Fashioned, which had a nice banana aroma - I just wish they'd brûlée the banana on top like a crème brûlée instead of just slicing it. Would've been next level. They only had chocolate cake for dessert and said they're still working on expanding the menu (we didn't end up getting the chocolate cake and instead went across the street for dessert). The space itself is really cute and vibey though - perfect date-night or girls night energy. It was quiet since we went right when they opened on a Sunday, but I bet it gets busier on other nights. Overall, loved the food and the atmosphere. Definitely coming back to try more items. I wish I could do a 4.5 star as I did really really like it and would definitely go back, just wish they weren't out of so many things right from the start.

Yelp
SAGO Encinitas is such a gem! From the moment we walked in, the service was incredible -- everyone was so kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The space itself has such a great vibe: coastal, modern, and relaxed, with the perfect mix of warmth and style. Every dish we tried was amazing -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really tell how much care goes into the menu. The drinks were just as impressive. It's the kind of spot that makes you want to linger, laugh, and savor everything. Definitely one of my new favorite go-tos in Encinitas for both date nights and girls' dinners.

Yelp
Amazing vibe, sexy music, beautiful lighting and delicious food! The service was fast and the staff were kind!

Yelp
My New Favorite Restaurant! I honestly think this might be my favorite new spot! I tried it for the first time about a month ago, and I've already been back--twice! The vibes are amazing, the service is top-notch, and, of course, the food is out of this world. I would literally recommend trying everything on the menu, but if you're looking for must-tries, go for the tuna tartare, the cucumber salad, and the fried chicken with caviar. Trust me, you won't regret it! I can't wait for my next visit

Yelp
I will be completely honest, I walked in thinking I was not going to love SAGO. The moody, instagram-ready vibe gave me the sense that their food would not be a priority. I was so pleasantly surprised! Portions were generous and flavor was delicious. The fried chicken with caviar was juicy and crave-able. I forget what type of fish we ordered (a special) but it came with broccolini and we thought it was great. I'm a sucker for whole fish, would order again. Overall a great date night spot!

Yelp
Went here with my friends to celebrate their birthday. It's a lovely restaurant with a variety of food from Japanese to Indonesian. The service was great and decor. Food: 5/5 Chicken Caviar 5/5 Mie Goreng 3/5 Jidori Chicken Satay - a bit sweet to me liking

Yelp
Sago delivered. Love the large open window concept, super vibey inside. The servers were incredibly kind, attentive, helpful, and made the night easy. We got the tuna sashimi, mie goreng, lobster bao buns, fried chicken with caviar, and the steak skewers that come with a salad. All of the food was absolutely delicious. Only issue: no dessert. I wanted to finish with something sweet. Still a full 5 out of 5. I'd go back for the mie goreng and bao without hesitation!

Yelp
This place is definitely a vibe, with good music and a live DJ. There were lots of plants and the open windows, had a good layout and made the space feel bigger It was really busy but our server was great, and made sure to get our order in quickly. The food was fresh and flavorful.

Yelp
Dark lighting, lots of greenery, gorgeous decor-- an aesthetic heaven. I loved the cocktails and the food was delicious. We ordered a little bit of everything and enjoyed *most* of it. Service was attentive without being overbearing. I will say although I came for a date night and if you're looking for something lowkey, this is not exactly the place for a quiet, intimate evening with your boo thang. On our Saturday night visit, the DJ booth was on and poppin', the energy was high, and celebration sparklers were flying left and right. Definitely felt like we were at the club and it was packed, in the best way. Safe to say reservations are so very necessary. Although we enjoyed ourselves, not sure I'd come back for another date night BUT I'd for sure come back for a night out with the girls!

Yelp
Came here with my friends on a Friday night for a birthday dinner. We made a reservation so we got seated right away. I loved the ambience and the vibes. It's perfect for group hangouts. They played an upbeat music. I think some nights they have live music as well. The food and cocktails were great, and the food portion was shareable. Our server was attentive and checked on us frequently! I would come back again!

Yelp
Did I go on the same evening as Scott T. I had a similar disappointing food experience as well :( I was beyond excited to try Sago. My date had suggested the restaurant so we both had alot of fun studying the menu before our visit. It was an early evening dinner - I think the first hour of opening. Street Parking was ok that early weekend evening. Hostess was fine and seated us quickly. Ladies, their two seaters are mostly high tables and chairs. So it's uncomfortable if you're wearing a dress or skirt IYKWIM. I don't believe there's a/c as the restaurant seems more open to invite in air. Our server was sweet. We placed our order quickly as we knew exactly what we wanted. Unfortunately, their menu didn't match what they listed online so that was disappointing. We still ordered quite a bit. We tried: Lobster Bao Buns: - pretty presentation but small portion. The batter was light but you couldn't taste the lobster. It seemed more like a glorified fish taco (not a bad thing) Ceviche: - I think this was the hamachi ceviche which came with fried taro chips. The ceviche was *really really* sour/tart. It was uncomfortable to eat as the focus was entirely citrus forward. Fried Chicken And Caviar: - 5 good size pieces of battered fried chicken topped with pearly caviar. The presentation was simple (with a grilled? lemon in the center of plate). The dark meat chicken tasted freshly fried. I wasn't able to taste much of the kaluga caviar perhaps due to the stronger lemongrass aioli ( FYI - "this type of caviar a type of caviar produced from the Kaluga sturgeon (Huso dauricus) and its hybrids, particularly with the Amur sturgeon (Acipenser schrenckii). It is known for its large, firm, and lustrous eggs, and its rich, buttery flavor with a slightly nutty taste" - per google) Pork satay: - fail. This was stated to be pork belly but it was all lean pork served dry and cold The wagyu flank wasn't on the menu so we decided to end the night with just the above (and the food had been disappointing thus far). The food came out super quick so we finished eating in less than one hour. I think someone said each table has a 90min limit so they seem to pump out food as such. The restaurant seems to have done well with patrons so perhaps we went on an off night from the kitchen/chef.

Yelp
Love this place soo much!! Upon stepping in, it felt like I was transported out of San Diego to an upscale tropical vacation, with lots of plants and elevated/modern decor. Perfect for a celebration with friends or a date night!! This music in here was perfect too, with just the right amount of volume and lit music. I was worried the food wouldn't live up to the ambiance, but it absolutely does! The dishes I would highly recommend are the fried chicken caviar (with deliciously crispy chicken), brocollini (not sure what magical sauce they used but this one's a must), and lobster bao buns. I love how innovative this place is - I've never had fried chicken caviar or lobster bao buns but both were to die for!! Can't wait to take my friends here!!

Yelp
Came here for a date night, the drinks were good but the food offerings were hit/miss. Definitely more of a let's grab a quick drink with friends/bar hopping spot than a date night spot in my opinion. Their cocktail menu is simplified where each drink is just named a number then they also have sake and other alcoholic offerings. I got the No12 and my partner got the sake soda (he's a whiskey drinker but opted to try sake for the first time). The No12 was yummy with the rose infused gin, strawberry vermouth and aperol, I'm a fan of floral flavors so I really enjoyed this drink it was very mild with the flavors and not too strong. I will say if you're looking for aesthetic drinks this may not be the ideal place since it looked like all cocktails are served in the same type of glass just with varying garnishes on top. For food we got the tuna sashimi and the lobster bao buns. I will say for the price the amount of food was underwhelming. The tuna sashimi was actually really good, it had a great flavor profile with the garnishes that were on top, I would be tempted to get it again I just wish it came with more pieces for the price. The lobster bao buns were just ok, I wouldn't recommend them or get them again. The decor is really nice here. I loved all of the live plants that they had inside, definitely more of a classy jungle interior theme. I would say this place would be best for grabbing a quick drink casually, it was pretty loud when I went so it was hard to hear my partner from across the table but someone was hosting an event the night we went so that could have contributed to how loud it was. Service was pretty slow but they were busy when we were there so I'm sure it's better on slower days. We were seated and had to wait awhile for anyone to come by then even after our order was taken it took awhile for us to receive anything we ordered. Even when we were trying to get the check to leave it took awhile for us to flag someone down unfortunately.

Yelp
Food: 9.5/10 Service: 9/10 Ambiance: 10/10 Had a wonderful time at this Asian fusion restaurant. I will most definitely come again. My favorite was the branzino market fish and the broccolini. So good. Beautiful place

Yelp
Been here for dinner as well as brunch and I gotta say this place is trendy but the food is also so good! The vibe and ambiance is so pretty. Lots of green plants, but against the black walls and lighting, it makes the place so clean, sleek, and sexy. The DJ spinning every time I'm here is also very cool. You feel like you're in a nightclub except they serve excellent food. My favorite is the fried chicken with the caviar. I also love the noodles and bao buns. If you're looking for a fun place to go with your friends or for a nice date night, this place is it.

Yelp
I had my birthday dinner here a few days ago and loved the ambiance and service. The staff went the extra mile to make my birthday dinner special! The only reason I wouldn't give it five stars is the food was okay (with the exception of the yummy hamachi ceviche) Drinks were amazing, but the food could have been better. I would definitely come again for drinks!

Yelp
Sago's glow-up is unreal! The second you walk in, it feels like you've been transported to Tulum gorgeous decor, warm lighting, and such a vibe. I came with friends and we loved everything: the new menu is delicious, the cocktails were out in seconds, and the service was so friendly. Perfect spot for a girls' night, date night, or anyone wanting a little escape in Encinitas. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely not a favorite. This place is very overpriced. The drinks are okay, the service is pretty bad honestly, and it's VERY crowded. I wouldn't recommend on going there with a party bigger than 2-3 people. The decor is pretty, but it isn't anything special.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday with a friend and loved it! The vibe and ambiance is my favorite, it reminds me of a jungle themed restaurant you'd find in Bali. The service was great, the food came out quick and I loved the music! My favorite was the egg white drink, bao buns, fried chicken and market salad! Definitely coming back!

Yelp
Came here for my boyfriend's birthday, and it was fantastic! The vibes were overall fun and very nice. Our server, Trista, was amazing. She gave us a quick run down of the menu, and helped us out by letting us know what was in each dish since I had a specific food allergy! The food was so so so good! This restaurant really does live up to the hype. Each dish was so delicious. My favorite was the tuna sashimi. It was so fresh and so yummy. As someone who doesn't usually prefer raw fish, this was one of the best tuna sashimi I ever had. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
to be kind, the eating experience at SAGO was disappointing. on a couple of positive notes, the space is absolutely stunning and the wait staff brought their A game. whoever did the design work and whoever hired and trained the wait staff gets extra brownie points. EVERY person we interacted with was engaging and attentive to a point that bordered on hovering. dishes were bussed quickly. not sure if the kitchen's short on plates or if they're anxious to turn the tables. either way, I'm happier being fawned over than ignored. love Kate, our server -- a bit ditzy in a delightfully charming sort of way. I'm willing to give the bartenders the benefit of the doubt, but at the very least, our cocktail No. 9 (vodka, Licor 43, Lofty espresso, and coffee liquor) has recipe problems. couldn't figure out how to sort through my Yelp photos so I could count how many espresso-style martinis I've had, but it's more than a few and this version (and I'm particularly fond of Licor 43) was the worst I've had by a wide margin. brief note to Mr. Mixologist: stop trying to be so-o-o-o clever. you don't need to fix what isn't broken. the space, staff, and food are all gorgeous but eventually you don't just eat with your eyes, and the eats were no bueno. we went on a Sunday evening, and I'm pretty sure the regular chef had the night off and the dishwasher filled in. nothing was good, and two of the three dishes were borderline inedible. the MIE GORENG (spicy wok fried noodles, sesame ginger chicken, bok choy, Thai basil, green onion, and white sesame seeds) was the pick of a weak litter. again, lots of mie goreng pictures in my Yelp photos and theirs was the least enjoyable I've ever had. not awful but I wouldn't say it was good either. nothing exotic in the flavor profile. theirs was a greasy version with a little sweet soy of the noodle side at Panda Express. the CITRUS SALAD (red plums, haas avocado, plum vinaigrette, seed and nut mix, finger limes, and mustard frills) might have been okay if it wasn't drowned in dressing. the dish was prepared with the understated complexity of a sledgehammer and arrived looking more like an chunky chowder than a salad. when we finished, enough dressing had pooled in the bowl for Michael Phelps to swim laps in. the FRIED CHICKEN and CAVIAR (Japanese fried chicken, lemon grass aioli, and kaluga caviar) was an unqualified disaster. when I read "Japanese Fried Chicken," I was thinking shatteringly crisp karaage. what we got was KFC Original Recipe shallow-fried in warm oil. the chicken was less fried than gently confited. the gummy texture was off-putting like it had been poached in fat, a technique ill suited for a breaded product. we arrived a few minutes after they opened and I'm pretty sure the kitchen forgot to turn on the fryers and, by the time they did, there wasn't enough time to come to temperature before service. since the chicken pieces were cooked through, I'm guessing they were twice fried, the first much earlier than serving and the second in not-nearly-hot-enough oil. I hate walking out of a restaurant and checking both ways twice before crossing the street because I'm terrified I might get run over and die with the taste of a bad meal in mouth for all eternity. yeah, it was that kind of evening. ps: have had a solid back-and-forth with Dale who apparently enjoys elevated status in the SAGO command structure. he graciously invited me back for a do-over. I'm looking forward to an updated rave review. will keep you posted.

Yelp
You guys, I've been waiting to make this review. I wish there were more stars I could give! First off, the inside is beautiful. The colors are black with emerald green and a lot of plants. There are booths all around and high tables in the middle. There is a DJ booth that starts to play at 9pm. We made a reservation for 4 people on a Saturday at 6pm. Everything ran smoothly, but please note they give you exactly 1.5 hours to eat and they will let you know when it's time to go without hesitation but in a friendly way. All servers were friendly. The guy that brought out our food always asked how we liked it and was very interested to know our thoughts. I'd say he might of been the person behind the recipes. The menu is not that big and I highly recommend you order a few items and share among your table so everyone can try everything. We ordered everything on the menu except chicken satay, greens, halibut and ceviche. My favorite was the tuna sashimi plate, the broccolini, and kimchi marble potatoes. Sounds random but trust me when I say the broccolini was the best I ever had. Drinks were also delicious, but I highly suggest No. 7 and No. 9 on the drink menu. Overall, food was to die for and drinks were delish! Do expect to spend some money. We ordered 12 food items total and 8 cocktails and the total bill came out $247 (including tip) per couple, so about $500 total. I definitely think it was worth it though.

Yelp
Sago has quickly become one of my favorite dining experiences. The ambiance was stunning, and the service was exceptional. Every dish we tried, from the fried chicken caviar to the lobster bao buns, was a 10/10. Their cocktail selection was just as impressive, and the live jazz performance perfectly set the mood for the evening. I look forward to my next experience at Sago.

Yelp
This place is an absolute vibe - I reserved a booth for me and the gals on a Friday night. Loved the live DJ playing as if we were at a CRSSD show. Food and drinks were delicious - it's more of a shared apps and drinks kind of place than an "order a meal for each person" place. Noodles and steak were my fav, so were the bao buns. Make reservations for a group to guarantee a seat. There's also ample bar seating too!

Yelp
My husband and I dined here in a Sunday night and it was so nice! We dressed casual since it was a Sunday which seemed to be ok The restaurant has dim lighting with a very tropical Tulum vibe and also has a DJ stand The bar is gorgeous with mirror accents and lighting The service was great! Our server checked in a lot and gave some pretty good recommendations My all time fav for food was the fried chicken omen caviar and the noodles. I could seriously eat those noodles all day The drinks were tasting! I had the pina colada styled drink, so yummy I ordered 2!

Yelp
Fun atmosphere if you want a high end clubby feel. It is very dark inside and it's downright impossible to see your food or read the menu at certain tables because there is no light. If you need light to see, ask for a side booth near the 101 side of the building. Our server was very nice and helpful. The menu has limited offerings. Some of the items on the specials list sounded fantastic but the prices were outrageous so we didn't try them. If you don't like spicy food, or are vegan or vegetarian the offerings are extremely limited. We had an absolutely yummy mocktail. Even though they aren't specifically listed on the menu just ask your server. My friend ordered the Lobster Bao which people on here had raved about. It was extremely disappointing. There were 3 bites of tempura lobster (and I mean bites) in total with each bite on top of a very dull, non flavorful, chewy gray bao-ish bun. It was $26 for very little food. The lobster tempura was tasty but not the bun. For 3 bites of lobster it seemed expensive. We ordered two items which were too spicy - cucumber salad and the ceviche - tasty but too spicy for this wimp. I finally ended up with the WAYGU Skewer for $27 which was a DEAL and delicious. It is 3 very large, hardy skewers of delicious Waygu with a yummy marinade. The marinade was a little over powering and it could have done with less but the meat was so incredibly tender. It also came with a nice side salad which supposedly had a light separate dressing but it tasted the same as the marinade. The portion was big enough for 2 to share. I ended up taking one whole skewer home and it was so tasty the next day and still tender and juicy after being warmed up. I would definitely get the Waygu Skewers again but would not order any of the other items. It appears they don't offer dessert. When we finished out food the server just asked if we wanted the check and there was not an offer of dessert or a dessert menu. The DJ started at 8 pm or a little earlier. It was nice house music dance-y - but on the chill side for dining. It was very noisy inside which wasn't just because of the DJ - it seems to be accoustically loud by design. It looks like a fun place to dance though we didn't stay because they said the dancing doesn't start until after 10:30 pm. I am not sure if I will return for a meal as the menu was so limited. I may return though to check out the dance scene.

Yelp
Yes the portions are a little small so you have to spend more but it's absolutely worth it for the flavor that pops. Staff was friendly and the vibe feels like Tulum with some sophistication. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Service - 5/5 I love San Diego because it's so similar to the service of SF vibe of friendliness and always asking us if we are satisfied. Ryan was our waiter. He was very nice, quick and responsive whenever I needed anything. Food - 4.8/5 - The ceviche with those Chinese shrimp chips hit the spot. Mmm hmmm! Mmm..mmm! The noodle weren't so good too much salt. Everything else was good. Salmon was good too. Ambiance - 5/5 The service DJ - Gabriel was so nice when I went up there and asked him to play a song. He was psychedelic with his funky sounds and they turned this restaurant into a club/VIP lounge for dancing after we were finished with our meal !

Yelp
We swung by Sago in downtown Encinitas the other night and it was next-level. Located right on the main strip (485 S Coast Hwy) it has that perfect "in the heart of Encinitas" energy. From the moment we walked in the welcome set the tone. Our hosts were friendly, attentive and genuinely made us feel like we were in for a great evening. The newly-redone bar looked amazing: sleek, modern, with a vibe that says "let's elevate this night." Now for the fun part: the drinks. My wife and I tried a caramelized-pineapple-tequila cocktail and honestly, one of the best we've had in a while. So good we were already scheming our next visit. Food wise: you've got to try the fried chicken and caviar, this dish was everything. Juicy Japanese-style fried chicken with lemongrass aioli, topped with chive Kaluga caviar. And the cucumber salad (Japanese Persian cucumbers with maple-miso serrano ponzu, crispy sesame and herbs) added a crisp, fresh counterpoint. In short: great location, warm and polished service, standout drinks + creative dishes that taste as good as they look. If you're in Encinitas and want to treat yourself, go here. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Loved our dinner at SAGO in Encinitas! The vibe here is super curated and fun. And they play great music (a DJ even started playing toward the end of our meal) and such good energy all around. We went here for dinner with friends, but is now on my list for any special celebration dinners! We ordered a few cocktails. the #3 was really refreshing, their espresso martini was delicious, and the #3 on the *cocktail specials* list ended up being our favorite of the night. Honestly, they should add that one to the regular menu! Food-wise, our server gave great recs and those ended up being our favorites: 1. Wagyu skewers - cooked perfectly 2. Duck rice - surprisingly amazing even for people who don't usually eat duck 3. Broccolini - perfectly seasoned We also enjoyed the tuna sashimi, but the spicy wok noodles and lobster bao buns! Service was friendly and on point. The only thing to note: there's a 1.5-hour table limit, which we weren't aware of until the end. The server was polite about it, just something to keep in mind if you're with a group and plan to order in rounds. Overall, great food, amazing cocktails, and a really fun atmosphere. We'd definitely come back!

Yelp
While visiting San Diego, I was able to dine at Sago. My friends suggested this spot and since I used to frequent the area a lot back in the day, I was happy to be here. We were a party of 9 so there are no tables that can accommodate this size of a party other than the lounge seating. It was like a night club seating so we could not eat like on a regular table. We had 3 small tables and asked the original server (bus boy) if we could grab the other small table that was between both seating area and he said he needed to asked but never came back. Eventually the server came. Service to me was extremely slow. Although she was nice, it sucked at the same time. We all ordered drinks and the drinks were very weak. I ordered 2 old fashioned drinks and no buzz at all. The next day I dined at another restaurant and ordered an old fashioned and I was a bit tipsy. Clearly watered down drinks are served here. My 2 old fashion drinks cost me $38+tt. Food: Mei Goreng Balinese Pork Satay Lobster Bao Buns Tuna Tartare The Mei Goreng was delicious. I loved the al dente udon noodles. The flavors were on point. The Satay was ok. I preferred the wagyu skewer that my friends ordered. That was delicious. The tuna tartare had a nice bite. The chip it came with was a bit nasty. I've had really good rice crackers at different restaurants and unfortunately the chip was not good. Lastly, the lobster bao buns were devine. Delicious!!! That and the mei goreng were my favorites. Overall, the food dishes delcious but the drinks and service lacked for me.

Yelp
The décor is beautiful, from the exterior to the interior. We really love the vibe, lots of girls and a lively atmosphere at night. The food, however, is just okay. The wagyu skewers didn't seem to be real wagyu and were definitely too salty, which was a bit disappointing. The rice and bun were good, though, and the service was very nice.

Yelp
Service was absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate one month of dating and the environment of the restaurant was so so romantic and intimate! The ambiance really added to our night but what really carried the whole night was the food!! We got the cucumber salad, lobster bao buns, tuna sashimi, mie goreng, and Wagyu skewers. We CLEARED the table and left no crumbs!! One of the best dining experiences

Yelp
Super cute little place. I remember when it was D street. We came here for drinks and small bites and everything was really good. Also, the vibes were giving tulum and backyard oasis. Definitely coming back at a non busy time or making reservations ahead of time.

Yelp
10/10 everything!! We came here around the end of June to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday since we've been eyeing it every time we go to the beach. and it was honestly so beautiful inside and the food was delicious! Definitely on the pricey side but it was a memorable time and worth the visit. Our favorites were definitely the Pork Satay and Sashimi. Our server was amazing but we forgot to catch her name. Lastly, the dessert WAS HUGE! We need to know what cake that was because it was the best chocolate cake i've ever had (please let us know if you are reading this lol). 10/10 recommend

Yelp
We loved sago for date night with our friends!! We ordered half the menu honestly and the food was insane! Everything we got was delicious and we even ordered seconds because it was so good! They had a DJ come later in the evening and brought such good vibes to the restaurant! Service was amazing and the staff was so sweet! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place is tucked i Encinitas , but honestly tho! Even La doesn't have this! So unique, what a hidden gem! The moment you enter, it feels like you are transported to Miami jungle ! The music are so cool, chill, danceable. They played deep / afro house music. After 11, it became like a bar with dance floor. For food? Damn. It beyonds my expectation. Their blend for SouthEast asian fusion with American are really not bad! Not like authetic but it is more than decent! I order their mee goreng, satay, wagyu steak for 3 of us. Good place for girl night out.

Yelp
We came to Sago in Encinitas to celebrate my mom's birthday, and it was such a great experience from start to finish. Our server, Lamar, was amazing! Super attentive, friendly, and made the whole night feel extra special. The space itself is beautiful! So lush, tropical, and totally transportive. It honestly felt like we were on vacation for the night. I ordered the #2 cocktail and loved it, it was light, refreshing, and just the right amount of sweet. When it came to the food, we basically tried almost everything on the menu, and there wasn't a single miss. Some of our favorites were the cucumber salad, pork satay, soft shell crab, and the mie goreng but really, everything was delicious. The general manager even stopped by our table a few times to check in, which really stood out and made the whole experience feel top-tier. If you're in San Diego or even just passing through Sago is 100% worth the visit. I already can't wait to go back.

Yelp
SAGO has ultimate fun, moody, tropical escape energy. It's the kind of spot that feels just as good for a romantic date as it does for a chic night out with friends. My favorites: The No. 9 cocktail was hands-down my favorite. Caramelized pineapple, tequila, chili, coconut a tropical cocktail with sweet heat and rich flavor depth. The hamachi ceviche and tuna tartare were absolute standouts - super fresh, beautifully plated, and full of unique flavor. If you're into shareable plates, vibey ambiance, and beautifully crafted drinks this spot's worth a visit!

Yelp
If you're looking for vibes, this place has the tulum-esque atmosphere you're looking for a casual night out or a date night. But read on... My partner and I had the Crudo, Mie Goreng, and Wagyu Flank for food and to be honest it was rather mediocre. The Wagyu was WAYYY over cooked and well done despite us asking for medium rare. The crudo was sparse and more of a taster than an appetizer for 2. Mie Goreng was also decent noodle wise as it was al dente and cooked well but the sparse amount of bok choy was laughable and the noodles could really benefit from more of its supporting cast. That said, the presentation was nice for all dishes though and I appreciate the plating and dishware. The real disappointment was on the drink for me. I had the N10 (Pineapple rum, dark rum, cointreau, orgeat, lime) which one would generally assume is a Mai Tai variant. Unfortunately the end result was what tasted like a watered down drink from a dive bar in PB.... on the flip side though the N9 (Caramelized Pineapple, Tequila, Chili, Pina Colada Foam) was the type caliber of cocktail I'd expect from a place like this and was full of flavor and body that fit the environment.

Yelp
Sago is such a great place to meet friends for drinks or have a nice night out. I came here a couple times now to catch up with a friend, listen to music, and celebrate my friends' birthday. Food here is tapas style so I recommend eating your volume before you go or have plans to eat after (especially if you plan on drinking). The espresso tinis here are amazing, and the wagyu skewer was to die for it was literally so good my friends and I almost cried. I recommend tasting their chardonnay as well if you plan on having some of the tapas, they compliment each other well. As for the ambiance it's spectacular!!! The interior is such a good jungle vibe, and ironically enough when we went for my friends birthday they were playing jungle house as well!!! I think the vibe is well curated here and I love that you can stick around for the sets. Service here is also very good and I can't wait to continue making this place a part of my Encinitas-night-out routine.

Yelp
Super cute place for a night out! Great for a date night or a night out with friends. The service here is great and everyone is very friendly. The food is a little bit on the pricier side but definitely great for sharing, I would recommend coming with a larger group so that you can try a ton of stuff from the menu. My favorites were the lobster bao buns and the hamachi ceviche. As for drinks I really like the No. 2 and the espresso martini.

Yelp
This spot hit all the marks tonight: ambiance, service, food and drinks. The corner location is beautifully designed with a dark jungle vibe and rich woods throughout. Parking is limited to some small lots that fill up quickly and often as well as mostly street parking. Service was top-notch - friendly and attentive. We were checked in on frequently, food came out very timely, and drinks were never dry. The menu is a variety of Asian fusion small dishes, which was perfect for ordering and sharing multiple things. Tonight two of us ordered the tuna sashimi, black cod, mei goreng, Australian wagyu flank and jidori chicken skewer. Everything was excellent, from plating to execution. Every flavor was delicious and bold. Will definitely be coming back!!

Yelp
Interesting and unique food, good nighttime vibes at SAGO! I had found this spot on Yelp and decided to make a last min reservation. It was easy to do so, and there were still slots left on the same day. The food menu was fairly extensive, with larger entrees or smaller tapas depending on whether you were there for a full meal, or just drinks. Although the items were a bit on the pricey side given the serving sizes, this was already to be expected. My boyfriend and I shared 4 dishes between us, and we were both full but definitely not stuffed. The drink menu was also interesting, and I appreciated that it was listed in categories (like experimental) depending on what kind of drinks you gravitate towards. The drinks were strong but had great balance of the non-alcoholic elements inside! I enjoyed my gin/strawberry/balsamic vinegar drink, and it was just the right amount of risk for me (balsamic was not too strong). Towards the end of our meal, the DJ came out to the booth and started spinning live music. A few bigger groups came in around this time and you could tell the energy was starting to pick up to the clubbier vibe they have later nights. If you're looking for a nicer, tamer meal an earlier reservation is definitely nice, but otherwise this spot is great for a date or night out!

Yelp
I normally don't get this excited about how good a restaurant is but wow this place is no joke! My wife and I just left and were amazed by how good everything tasted. All the food was packed with insane flavors that were all balanced beautifully. It was our first time here and the service was great, ambiance was on point and our server, Lamar, was really cool and added to our overall great experience. This is 100% my new favorite restaurant. The crispy broccolini, mie goreng, fried chicken w/ caviar and steak skewers were so good id highly recommend! I appreciated all the staff for contributing to a great experience. Im excited to return soon.

Yelp
First off, WOW! Food, service, vibes... 5/5 I can't say enough great things about the food and service. First, the service was great. Your water will never go below to a limit where you're thirsty. Bussers are constantly on the move walking around filling water and collecting any extra dirty plates. I wish I got the name of our server but she was very kind and helpful explaining what the options were at this establishment. She also went over some tasty drinks and what she would rec would be more my flavor. Always much appreciated! For the food, I would have to say everything was very flavorful and quite tasty. I was blown away with the chicken and caviar. The taste alone made my eyes bulge. Very lemon zesty and perfect breading it had to say it was probably the most tender and juicy piece of fries chicken I've ever had. If there is one tip I can give management, change the drink ware for Sake. I'd just like to say, with Sake being what it is, it should be served in a sake glass and saucer. It's a very traditional way to serve it and also, it helps me from needing to stop the bussers from putting water in my sake glass. 5/5 stars.

Yelp
Such a cool bar. It's like stepping into a dark tropical rainforest. Stopped by on a Friday with co workers while visiting San Diego for a conference. We were seated right away without a reservation early Friday evening. I would recommend making a reservation. It was pretty busy by the time we left. The cocktails all looked good but I went with their take on an espresso martini with a hint of snickerdoodle. It was a smooth martini and not too sweet or bitter. The food is tapas style. We ordered some greens, the lobster bao buns, the noodles and the wagyu beef skewers. Table favorite was the lobster bao buns and second the noodles. We ended with a serving of their ube soft serve to share. Service was fast and friendly. Very cool and hip vibe perfect for a night out. Adding to my San Diego spots.

Yelp

Yelp
Came here for the nightlife, not the food, so my review is focused on the vibe. The space itself is nice and the service at the bar was solid, but the music was a letdown. It was almost all techno, which made it feel repetitive after a while. I wish they mixed it up more and broadened the spectrum with different genres to keep the energy going. Overall, it wasn't a bad night out, but not somewhere I'd rush back to unless the music variety improved.
