8/3/2023 Spontaneously came here after craving Vietnamese food but the kind of food you don't see at your typical Vietnamese restaurant. I wanted to be reminded of home. Walked in and saw a big sign saying grand opening under NEW MANAGEMENT. DO NOT look at old yelp photos because a lot of those pictures is what I used to make my decision to come here and was very shocked to see not a lot of things I wanted to eat based on previous Google and Yelp photos. Scope the new menu and you'll see that it's VERY DIFFERENT and much SMALLER. Food: Egg rolls were good but pretty small compared to other places I've been. I am used to them getting served with the house fish sauce but these came with sweet chili sauce. It's fine, you can just ask for fish sauce if you want that instead. Baby clams got me excited because I love the dish and do not see it at many other places but they were a miss for me. They didn't have much flavor at all other than the chili spice and lime you squeeze over it and that's it. Coconut sauce snails is a WINNER because it was full of flavor and came out bubbling hot and and delicious. Grilled Pork Vermicelli (also have beef and tofu option but not listed on menu) was good but basically all vegetables. Amount of noodles was basically less than a palm size but spread around on top of vegetables. Shame because I love noodles. Grilled pork in the vermicelli dish was cooked well and had lots of flavor. Shaking beef is one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes so I ordered it. This shaking beef was flavorful! HOWEVER, was not the same flavor of shaking beef that I am used to eating in other Vietnamese restaurants. (And I come from the Bay Area where Vietnamese restaurants were on every street corner/plaza.) Meat was tender and cooked well. Good dish in general because meat was cooked perfectly and had good flavor albeit not the usual shaking beef flavor if that's what you're expecting. Lastly, the Banh Beo (steamed rice cakes) were delicious. HOWEVER our waitress warned us that it would take a while to make them and she wasn't kidding. We ate our appetizers and main entrees and still waited for the steamed rice cakes. It was about 45 min-1 hour until they came out after we ordered them because the one other table in the restaurant who was sitting down before us ordered them first. If you don't mind waiting to eat it after everything else you ordered, go for it! Recommended dishes: snails in coconut sauce and steamed rice cakes Service: There was only one girl running around serving us and she was very attentive and sweet as there was only us and one other table seated. Knowledgeable about the menu as well. She was the only one moving around and about filling water whenever she saw our cups weren't full and cleaning around the restaurant and setting up tables. There were 3 men just chatting with each other at the main table near the kitchen and occasionally chatting with the waitress comfortably and watching around the restaurant. (I'm assuming they must be the new management.) Ambiance: They play the restaurant music off of YouTube on the big screen over a stage. The vibe of the place reminded me of a karaoke bar because the music was pretty loud and the menu is small and mostly finger foods and easy Vietnamese dishes. I assume it was the owner and friends who just sit around at the main big table and watch what's going on in the restaurant. Eventually more of their friends came bringing in a seafood boil and they all ate at the main big table, eating seafood and messing with the YouTube music and drinking. (I saw another seated couple ask about what the main table was eating because it looked really good but was redirected back to the menu as the seafood boil was brought in as a meal for the main table's get together lol.) Takeaway: if you're looking for some drinks and good/unique finger foods and share plates in a bar type setting, this is a good bet I guess. If you're looking for a Vietnamese restaurant with the basic clean plates and more of a dining restaurant experience, BIG PASS.

Google
Highly recommend the following: Snails with green onions Quail (appetizer) Intestine (appetizer) The Yong Chow Fried Rice here doesn't really taste like the Chinese dish. It's not bad but they should rename it. Honestly just great food at a good value based on what I've had so far.

Google
First timers here. The place is clean and neat. Waiters were friendly. It’s located in a plaza so there’s enough parking. Right away what I love about this restaurant is their large menu. Almost all the Vietnamese foods I can think of are in it! The calimari was good, a little too flat and chewy and the portion size could be more. The pho was great, lots of flavor. The rice dish was lacking a bit of flavor, probably wouldn’t recommend that dish. The fish clay pot was good, lots of flavor!

Google
We ordered Egg Rolls, Chicken Wings with Fish Sauce, Fried Calamari, Shaking Beef, and Tamarind Soup. The egg rolls and chicken wings were okay. The calamari was a big upset--I never imagine the calamari would come in a basket of fries (from an Asian restaurant, really?) Also, we probably got less than 10 pieces of calamari in total (see picture). Shaking Beef and the Tamarind Soup were the redemption. The beef was the tender and the soup was flavorful. So be warned: don't get the Fried Calamari unless you want fries.

Google
The bun bo hue wasn’t that good. It wasn’t spicy at all and was bland. The service was very slow for hardly anyone in there and the waiter or waitress hardly waited on me. The egg roll were really good though.

Google
Tried this place and it wasn’t what I expected. Ordered Togo oxtail pho and banh mi. I’ve got 3 little pieces of oxtail and 3 little slices of beef. No utensils nor napkin. Pho broth tasted like instant pho. And banh mi came with nothing but bread and meat (no toppings). Wish I can give zero star. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone that reads this review. It’ll be a waste of time and money.

Google
I ordered Grilled Beef Sandwiches for to go today, however it turnt out beef was not grilled but stir fried and put in the sandwich. You could have let customer know that you don’t have grilled beef. Absolutely, never going back again!

Google
It’s bad, food terrible, I ordered “oc huong” they bring not oc huong. Oc len xao dua are not meat inside.

Yelp
I found my new favorite Pho spot! Hidden away, right in front of me! It is so cute inside, would have never known. Randomly looking for a soup spot and found it! And the oxtail pho price is the best around. I will be exploring the menu.

Princess P.

Yelp
Area is questionable... homeless sleeping outside...felt so bad, it was freezing.... anyway, looked closed bc of how dark it is...once inside, it was cute. Food was ehh...my son liked his soup but I didn't like my food. Also, I found a little friend AFTER I ate my food... and I got sooo grossed out...I don't mind hair in my food, (I don't request it, but hey it happens)... but a roach not in my food (I hope) but on the table.. it was a baby..so the momma probably in the kitchen somewhere server was nice... took forever on drinks but nice

Yelp
I'm writing a short update to share SAGO has revised their menus such that they are now half Vietnamese food, half Cajun style type of seafood (think Crawfish King). The Vietnamese menu is accordingly reduced. Some of the popular dishes are still available, such as the steamed rice cake and shaking beef. I had looked forward to a full Vietnamese meal but was disappointed at the reduced menu. When I ordered a Viet Crepe, I was told they sold out for the day. It's 5pm on Sunday, and we were the only table at the entire restaurant. Doh. We looked at each other, thanked the server, and left. I decided to keep my original 4 Stars rating as I previously had enjoyed our many take-outs during the restaurant closure period. I had looked forward to a dine in experience. Now, I don't expect to return. Very unfortunate.

Yelp
One of the worst places I've ever eaten at. The food was nasty! The fried chicken was so dry yet so red on the inside!!!!! Can you imagine?! The fried calamari is more so BURNT CALAMARI!!! Nothing like the picture I saw on Yelp previously. I paid over $50 for my food, & this was the result. The sandwich, or beef ban mi sandwich was so dry!!! The grilled beef was so fatty. I also ordered the shaking beef, & talk about really salty beef. The ONLY good thing about the beef was that it was tender, & easy to eat but enjoyable? No. Please refrain from coming here for take out or eating in unless you're willing to throw your money away. I wish I could get reimbursed!!!

Eddie C.

Yelp
The Bun Bo Hue is legit here. I've been to a couple of other pho/Vietnamese restaurants and their Bun Bo Hue was very subpar. I wish this place wasn't so far out of the way for me, but by far the most authentic Vietnamese grandma's Bun Bo Hue I've had in a long time from a restaurant.

Brian H.

Yelp
The food was really good here, very nice staff and a nice place to drink and enjoy time with friends. Would definitely get the shaking beef again this was so flavorful

Amanda K.

Yelp
This is our go -to place when we want to eat late. They stay open and have the BEST vietnamese and thai food. At least I think thats what it is. Might be chinese also. Whatever it is, it is a great spot for a weeknight!

Ann L.

Yelp
We ordered the grilled catfish for Mother's Day dinner. Came at our pick up time but still had to wait another 30mins. Fish was dried not like before and they give so little condiments & veggies for a big size fish. Saw some dine in guests walk out as the wait was so slow. Not sure if they have new cook or short staff but definitely not the same experience we had before.

Yelp
* UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP/new chef!* The food here is delicious and packed with flavor! I suggest if you been here before-- come back again. The only thing here is that they kept the same restaurant name. First off all the food I ate was delicious. I would 100% come back. Seafood hot pot-- it comes out on this gorgeous silver platter lined up around the hot pot. I thought that was neat. The soup base was tangy, sweet, and packed with flavor, so when you cook your food in it, you can actually taste it marinating the food-- catfish, seafood, veggies. Asian salad *will update the name later* -- crispy, tangy, and pickled right, seems like a more traditional dish but I would eat this again. I wish I knew what this was called-- I'll post a pic-- show them the picture, they would know! (Has the green veggies, it looks like bell peppers but it's not) Grill shrimp-- larger charred grilled shrimp, I love that it's a full sized shrimp w/ head. Of course the char adds flavor to its simplicity. Calamari-- tasted really fresh w/ a sweet pineapple based tangy sauce Oysters chest box-- ok now this is cool! You can pick your own oysters, little skookum $3.50/each, Salish pearl $3.00/each, dabob $2.50/each -- 1 dozen combo of 3 / $32 Baked oysters-- I love a great baked oyster-- comes out piping hot so be careful! Topped with seasoning green onions and crushed peanuts. Crab eggrolls-- this is a nice twist! Real crab eggrolls, fried in a flat shaped egg roll is how I would describe it. It has a chewy crispy texture. I enjoyed this a lot. *new on the menu* Raw small oysters-- yummmm! The highlight. Sweet oysters freshly shucked. Add a little hot sauce a little lime or eat it alone. Delicious. Coconut snails--- WOW! Coconut snails, I ate a lot! It's so flavorful, sweet thick coconut sauce. I just learned how to eat it the correct way. Suck on the end first really hard, then suck the top hard and the snail comes right now. You have to get this!! I assure you, the food here is really tasty. Check them out. They also host private parties if you book them out in advance!

Yelp
I normally use Uber Eats to deliver food to my house from this restaurant. I order the same few things: grilled pork sandwiches, spring rolls and fries. The first few times I've ordered, the food was very well prepared. Everything was proportioned nicely and it all tasted great. The last few times I've ordered Uber Eats, they've forgotten to put in some items, the meat in the sandwiches tasted really old, the spring rolls aren't wrapped tight (made everything fall apart). The quality of this place has declined a lot over the last few months. Today (5/31/22) I placed an order for a sandwich and spring rolls. The sandwich barely had any meat - and the meat that was there tasted so old and was so hard. It was inedible and wasted $6.50. Then the spring rolls weren't wrapped very tight, the peanut sauce was very liquidy and only filled 1/2 way. Won't be ordering here again.

Yelp
As I'm writing this review, the only restaurant that I can compare their food to is Rainier Restaurant. The food being review was ordered to go. We did not eat at the restaurant. Their fried catfish is ok. I think the fried catfish at Rainier tastes a lot better. Not sure, but maybe it's the seasoning, oil or how it was cooked? The fried catfish comes with rice wraps, lettuce and assortment of vegetables. My party of 5 got an 8lb catfish and its priced $15 per pound. Apparently, that was the smallest catfish they had that day. We also had their shaking beef and thought it didn't taste consistent. Some beef cubes tasted good and some were questionable. Rainer does it a whole lot better. Lastly, we had the pork spring rolls. I ordered them because I saw pictures that the pork spring rolls looking like my favorite spring rolls from Saigon Deli in Chinatown. Unfortunately, they did not taste the same... Eh, so far with this experience, it'll be a while until I'll try them again.

Yelp
Delicious Vietnamese restaurant in Renton! I saw the pictures of the baby shark/catfish and was hooked. I bookmarked this place since, and am glad I finally was able to have a meal here. Though we didn't get the baby shark, since it was just the two of us, I shall be back with a group for it! We asked about the famous catfish when we visited for a late lunch, and our friendly server said that the smallest amount we could order was five pounds. FIVE POUNDS! Holy moly. Next time! We shared a pot of tea and the banh beo. My boyfriend had the turmeric noodle soup while I went with the bun rieu for lunch. Food didn't take long to get and everything was delicious! The banh beo was a nice way to start our meal with these rice-tapioca cakes covered in fried pork crumbles and green onions with a side of fish sauce. My bun rieu was awesome and much needed on a rainy day. The crab and tomato soup with large pieces of fried tofu, shrimp, rice noodles and pork meatballs was tasty. I ended up taking half for leftovers, and it still made for a nice meal. Service was fantastic. Our server was super friendly and was happy to make recommendations and checked in with us throughout our entire time dining in. Even though we had finished our pot of tea, she made us to-go cups of tea to take with us as we were leaving. So sweet! I will happily come back here again with a group for the famous catfish and to explore more of the large food menu. Everything we had was yummy, so can only imagine what more there is to devour!

Yelp
My friend wanted to come here to celebrate her birthday. We made reservations to try the famous "baby shark" and it was a pretty cool experience. When we arrive, the food was ready within minutes so we didn't have to wait for long which was really nice. Baby shark: the smallest they had was around 5lb and it was $15/lb. It was a pretty big fish and it was very crispy. Crispy enough that you can eat the bones! For the most part anyways, the head was literally the heaviest part but it was too hard so even though it was 5lb, probably 3lb was edible. The flavor was bland though, you definitely need to eat it with their sauce (which is pretty good). We also got the mango salad and that was pretty good as well. The drinks can definitely improve though. We got 3 cocktail and although they looked pretty, it didn't taste that great and it was very small for the amount you get. The place is decorated nicely though.

Debbie N.

Yelp
Tried mango salad and bun cha ha noi. I've been on the hunt for a good bun cha ha noi place for a while, ever since My Canh restaurant on MLK closed down. The next closest to the deliciousness of flavor was Ba Bar for the bun cha ha noi dish, then shortly during COVID they took the dish off the menu and it has not returned since. I ordered the mango salad for family to share. The family enjoyed the dish, daikon carrots were crisp and the salad overall was flavorful. The bun cha ha noi pork belly tasted exactly as expected (good thing), not dry. The sauce is a bit different from what I remember but still very good. I'd definitely order again.

Yelp
I'm at a loss for words. Bear in mind I have been in the restaurant industry and always lenient but I just can not reccomend this place at all. At first glance it looks closed and shut down. At entrance, ambiance is cool, really sets the mood for karaoke. We ordered a good number of dishes and did not like one thing, we honestly tried to eat it and look at it at different angles but couldn't finish a dish, man I have no idea how any of the dishes didn't have flavor or freshness. The vegetables were dry and shriveled, noodles were soggy, if msg was used, I just cant believe there can be anyway not to make a dish have taste and robust consistent flavor. We did order take home thinking to give a second chance and it would be good but upon trying again, same thing, we had to throw everything away including the dish they left hair in. We were not asked how everything was during out meal so there was no chance to input but I believe there is a ton of room for improvement.. Server was nice though.

Teresa L.

Yelp
We came in on a Saturday morning around 11:30am. Surprisingly, we were the 1st ones in. Immediately, a server came over & seated us by the window with the menus. After flipping through each page, we all decided on a different kind of noodle soup & noodle bowl plus an appetizer. After ordering, the server came back with a jug of room temperature water with 4 cups. We were actually quite pleased with that because we go through water like camels. After about 10 mins, our noodle soups came out one-by-one. First was the Bun Rieu. The color of the broth was very vibrant and looked very legit. I took my first bite and my taste buds were happy. All the ingredients in the soup were great except, I didnt really care for the pork meatball. The texture was good, but i wasnt really feeling the seasoning they used in it. Next was the mi quang. Appearance looked great! They used the correct thicker yellow flat egg noodles. You can see lots of peanuts and the broth itself tasted very peanut-ee! I was happy that they serve this here because not a lot a places in Seattle do. Ones that do, usually isnt very good or doesnt even use the right kind of noodles. Then came the bun mam. Now, if you've never had this broth before & not used SE asian food, you might be put-off by this. This soup is made with fermented fish & shrimp paste. It's dubbed, the Vietnamese Gumbo. Although, it's made with mostly salty ingredients, the broth had a sweetness to it, as well. I was actually impressed with this dish here. If restaurants do serve this, most of the time, it's way too salty. Next was the vermicelli combo bowl that came with fried eggroll, grilled pork skewer, grilled pork patty & shrimp. All the meats were marinated thoroughly. The fish sauce it came with was tasty; not too salty nor sweet and definitely not watered-down. Finally, the banh beo (the appetizer) came out. We have already started eating our noodles and when we finally got to the banh beo, it was somewhat cold. It would've tasted a lot better hot. That dish should've came out 1st. Overall, we all enjoyed our meal and servers were nice even though they didnt look up much, so it was more difficult to get their attention. Prices on what we ordered were decent. I give it 4 stars.

Yelp
Came to SAGO kitchen at night in Renton. Love the stylish and cool interior & walls. And interesting menu for Vietnamese food. I asked server to suggestions for meals. And I order Chicken Over Rice in Clay Pot and Shaking Beef with brown rice. I like Shaking Beef, tender beef, good flavor and yumm. Chicken Over Rice in Clay Pot is little hard to eat bone in chicken and something missing... I will be back and to try something else Located S 2nd st Renton near by Safeway and parking lots are available. Hours Sun-Thur 10am-9pm Fri-Sat. 10am-10pm

Yelp
Oh em geeeeee. I need to grab some quick dinner because I didn't have time to go to the grocery store to make and prep dinner. So I called in the order for canh chua ca (sour catfish soup), suon nuong (grilled short ribs) and chim cut chien bo (buttered quail). All of the food was all really flavorful. No blandness here. I really enjoyed the canh chua, it's a comfort dish that's burst with flavors. Sweet, savory and delicious! It's so good that my daughter asked for seconds, and she usually doesn't ask for more. From the call-in to picking up the food, it was seamless. Customer service interaction was on point. What a great addition to Renton. This will be one of my go-to lazy day to cook spot. (Haha) Price is pretty reasonable. *hint hint* I hope they add bun mam to their weekend special. I can't wait to try other dish. I plan to be back to try the grilled fish. I would totally recommend this hidden gem to everyone. It's located right next to GameStop, around the corner of Safeway.

Yelp
I tried SAGO Kitchen for the first time with friends and I would give them a 3.5-4 star rating. Just an FYI, SAGO is located in the same complex as the Safeway in Renton. It's a little hidden but there's plenty of free parking. Considering the group of friends were a big table, the restaurant did a decent job accommodating us. We tried the famous fried catfish which totaled about 6+ pounds. Customer service was okay but nothing too notable. If I remember correctly, one whole catfish cost about $14-$16 per pound pretax. The only other restaurant that serves whole fried catfish is Rainier BBQ. To compare, the taste is pretty much the same except that SAGO's catfish has a distinct red coloring which I believe is red food coloring. It's also eaten the same (by making a spring roll wrap with various ingredients and veggies). In general, this was a fun activity for a group as a novelty. However the catfish still has a pretty strong, fishy but oddly bland flavor that I've noticed in catfish in general. I shared a smaller bowl of tumeric rice noodle soup with a friend (costing about $11 pretax). It had a decent flavor and the soup was a mild Seafood taste, but it hit the spot for what it was. My only thing is that I've had a better version of this dish elsewhere (where the flavor was richer and deeper), so it was overall okay versus amazing. Would I come back? Sure, if I wanted to impress or have fun with a group of friends over a whole fried catfish. Would I come back for their regular dishes? That's a maybe for me because I wasn't THAT impressed with their tumeric noodle soup and it's a little out of my hood. With Seattle having really delicious Vietnamese food, it's more of a unique catfish experience for me.

Alex P.

Yelp
At night I always be hungry and nothing is ever open, but SAGO is always open so I eat here sometimes. The food is aight but 5 stars cuz it's always open and when I'm hungry any food taste good. Area is sketch tho careful for crackheads but support the business the new owner is wonderful !

Yelp
Great food, perfect place to hangout with friends. Can be loud at time. Staff is courteous.

Yelp
BEST Vietnamese food in the Seattle area! Don't let the club like atmosphere fool you. Variety of menu items ranging from the basics like Banh Mi and Pho to more adventurous dishes like Catfish and Bun Cha. The food is authentic, flavorful, plentiful, and made with love. Reminded us of the time we visited Saigon and Hanoi. We went on a quiet Sunday for lunch but will definitely be back for dinner. Service was excellent. You can tell the owner really cares about the experience and is passionate about the food.

Justine L.

Yelp
We were initially thrilled to find a place that was open so late, it is hard finding good eats after 10pm if its not a chain restaurant...and the Vietnamese menu sounded scrumptious! When we pulled into the parking lot, we couldn't see what the interior looked like from the outside looking in (except for the HUGE TV screens showing a basket ball game...) but we did see the bright OPEN sign so we decided to give it a shot. That was the beginning of the end. The atmosphere was rowdy and loud but we figured that this was appropriate seeing that this must be the late night crowd. (That and the... spotlights...everywhere...?) Service was a little bit on the slow side, but we decided to let that go as well because there was only one server, a girl who juggled the bar and orders, but she also would park and talk to the loud customers. Hmmm They must know each other? Still not the worst thing ever... Since this was our first time, we decided to go simple and ordered the Oxtail Pho. That's definitely not a type of pho you see everywhere! But as we sat waiting for our orders, more lights are turned on, particularly these lights that drew fun patterns on the wall. They were cute but they also shined green and blue colors directly into my eye, forcing me to change seats. A little annoyed sure, but still not the worse thing in the world. All of a sudden the basketball game is paused. ...Paused? It is actually being broadcast from someone's laptop and this was really playing from Youtube TV. Interesting....... We see the basketball game now stopped. The mouse changes the footage from basketball to..... ....Karaoke........ .......KARAOKE...!? .... ....OH NO..... Now I want to be perfectly clear. It was VERY obvious from the get go that this was an establishment for those night owls who want to have fun, enjoy good company and good food. We've been to Karaoke nights before and I don't want to come off as being party pooper. But WE DID NOT SIGN UP TO EAT OUR PHO WHILE GETTING OUR EAR DRUMS POUNDED INTO OBLIVION! It's not the karaoke itself that made us upset but that the volume was SO BRAIN BUSTINGLY LOUD that I had to communicate with my husband thru texting AS HE WAS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO ME. Our food has finally arrived. Just... in... time......yay..... In texted agreement, my husband and I snarf down our pho as fast we can so we could get the hell out of there! Which was a shame because the pho itself was actually not bad. Not the best pho, but it certainly had its merits! (The broth was pretty deep but the meat slices was a little over cooked and the noodles were sad. The actual oxtail though was the star) Too bad any pho goodness was thoroughly drowned out by drunken singing men, pounding bass and techno beams. It was when the mic was handed to an even MORE drunk girl singing off key in an EVEN LOUDER SHRILL voice, that it became crystal clear. The night was ruined. While speedrunning through our pho, we look up to see another couple enter the establishment and take their seats close by. They saw the light a lot faster than we did and left only after a few minutes. They were the lucky ones. TL;DR : Food is okay but don't eat at this place if you value your eardrums or sanity... or both. We're definitely NOT coming back! P.S. Remember when I said that the server would often park near the loud customers and chat with them? This made us think that the singing customers were either close friends or family to the staff. Either way it convinced us that complaining about it publicly wasn't going to change anything. We just really wanted out of there ASAP!

Yelp
We came in around 2pm on a Sunday and there were only 2 tables occupied. Service was prompt and food was good. Chicken wings are the bomb! We also had short ribs, banh mi, quail, regular pho and fried trout. Everything was good. We shall return. :)

Yelp
I love their food. They're really good but the wait is sooooo long. The last 3 times I came, we had to wait roughly 45 mins to more than an hour to eat Wouldn't recommend when you're hungry bc of the wait time. I understand sometimes it's busy but they need to step up their game with that

Trevor C.

Yelp
Had some merit. Chef did a good job putting together a nice lunch. Mango salad was dressed a bit heavy for my taste. Cocktails were very good, though a upscale $10+ drink dispensed in between a school and grocery store seems misplaced.

Yelp
Ordered oxtail pho, calamari, and the shrimp and crab soup. Originally wanted banh xeo but they said they didn't have any so I settled for the shrimp and crab soup. Let me just say this is the third time we've came here and none were great. Do y'all see this calamari basket? We couldn't stop laughing at how small the calamari portion was. It was a joke. It doesn't state on their menu that it is calamari and fries. I expected the calamari that others posted. The typical Asian style. I showed them a pic of the ones on yelp and they told me they changed their menu. The shrimp and crab soup only came with 2 shrimps. I brought this up as well and they told me that's how it is since they are using real crab in the broth.. I mean I didn't expect to be given fake crab? The pho broth didn't even taste like bone broth. Tasted like they used some type of beef bouillon powder and called it a day. Wish they spent more time making their food taste good as opposed to the decor and the ambiance. We had to rush out of there at the end of our meal because they started to play really loud karaoke. Needless to say, if you've ever gone to rainier bbq - sago kitchen is a bootleg version of them lol

Brandi C.

Yelp
The portions you get from Sago is unreal. We got the egg crepe and crispy noodle beef stir fry and what you see in the picture is the humongous size of the crepe, the container of sauce for the stir fry, and a literal bag filled with fresh vegetables to go with the dishes. What is truly amazing is that the crepe is only $13 and the stir fry is $11. How? The food quality was excellent, plenty of utensils provided, and though we ate the food an hour and a half after pickup, the food was still piping hot and delicious - no faltering of quality whatsoever. The highlight taste from this was the egg crepe. Crispy on the outside, gooey and tasty on the inside with the various vegetables and shrimp packed in there. This crepe could easily feed two people with sides of the provided bag of vegetables and rice. I definitely think this dish is overlooked given the popularity of Vietnamese noodle soup, but I would highly recommend people to give the crepe a try and then buy a hundred more. Sago Kitchen is a hidden yet wonderful gem in Renton and they definitely deserve more recognition for their contributions of amazing food. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time earlier this year and it was pretty good! There were so many special vietnamese dishes that you can't really get in a lot of restaurants. So just having that variety was nice if you wanted to try new things. I got the bun rieu since I haven't had it in a while and it satisfied my cravings :)

Yelp
Hidden gem with nice modern decor! Grilled Pork Rolls: Nice & fresh typical spring roll can never go wrong with these! Fried Calamari: Big chunky well fried & came with a decent amount. Chicken over rice in clay pot: the picture can be very deceiving, it was delicious don't get me wrong, I just feel like they could of added a few more pieces esp for the price your paying. There was too much rice for that much chicken! Shaking Beef: My personal favorite out of all the dishes we got, nicely cooked flavorful beef chunks! Oxtail Pho: Super tender pieces of oxtail with a nice clean broth. I love how they all came with pickled mustard greens most places don't offer that! I will def stop by if I'm ever craving bo luc lac, or if I want to have other options for Vietnamese cuisine! Nothing really stood out to me about this place besides the docor & the bar maybe. Staff was friendly & service was good considering we were the only one in there..

Yelp
Been ordering frequently and the claypot chicken rice is something we include in our order every time. Unfortunately the last couple times it just hasn't been good. This most recent order the chicken skin was burnt all over and the rice was flavorless. We ordered two orders of the claypot chicken rice and double whammy on both being burnt and flavorless. The wrong nuoc mam was also provided and no cucumber or pickled veg in the box. Hopefully they can improve their consistency because Sago has some items others don't have...but if the food is going to be this inconsistent or in today's case, completely burnt, we'll have to look elsewhere.

Yelp
Went there twice this year (pre-covid). Food is flavorful and prepared well. To date, we've eaten many dishes from their menu and we've been pleased to still want to go back. I definitely would be planning to do take out from them during this pandemic. I just didn't care much for the minor little things - ie... the bulky menu, noise, uncomfortable chairs & table and slightly slow service...which is immaterial. I ordered take out (during pandemic) today. I ordered crispy catfish, turmeric noodle soup, oxtail pho, crepe and traditional pho. Everything was well packed and so satisfying. I specially like the turmeric noodle soup and the huge (5lbs) crispy catfish.

Yelp
Happy to finally have tried this place! Renton is definitely coming up and this is definitely competition for Renton Bistro nearby. Banh cuon platter was tasty with all the herbs and veggies on the side. The tofu threw me off though.. or maybe it's because I'm not a tofu fan so I didn't expect it in the platter? Banh beo was good except their fish sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. Don't get me wrong, sugar is my life, but just a little too sweet. 4/5 still, I wouldn't knock it as something you shouldn't get because you still should! We also ordered the pho to share. Not the thin pho noodles that you're used to but overall, pretty good for someone who drank alot the night before lol. Must I add, they are not stingy with their meats! HOLY MOLY. Overall, I like this place. It's spacious, cute and there's parking. Would love to come back to try their catfish with the spring rolls!!!

Yelp
I went here with friends yesterday. Firstly, I was impressed with the decor and the painting on the wall, it looks cool! We ordered garlic butter quail, chicken salad, steam rice cake, and grilled fish. My favorite one was grilled fish. It was served with vegetables, herbs and rice paper to wrap. It is tasty and huge so we can share one among 5 people. One more plus for the server, the waitress eventually checked on us if we doing ok and if we need anything else. That's really nice! So yeah, my must-try when u come here is grilled fish! We will def come back!

Yelp
When this place popped up near my house on yelp, I was soooooooo excited. The menu items are super authentic. I got giddy just seeing it! There are items I only found at super legit places (aka not just catered to people who only know about pho) in LA during college. Things like Com tam - broken rice dishes Bun bo hue - my favorite over pho any day Banh beo - tiny saucers of rice cakes sprinkled with shrimp bits and drizzled with fish sauce Banh xeo - Vietnamese savory egg crepes I had heart eyes all over this place and kept trying to convince my honey to go with. We finally went during soft opening and they had 20% off the bill. Win! We ordered Bun bo hue ( my favvv dish usually) - sad to say the broth was not very flavorful and so bland. The thing I love about BBH is the spice and zest from lemongrass. It was also lukewarm. The meat was not bad. Oxtail pho - I convinced him to pay extra for this because oxtail! Sadly it was soooo tough and not fall off the bone like it should be. We left huge pieces of meat stuck on the bone because it was tough to gnaw off. His broth was better and much hotter than mine. And a banh mi with fried egg - we did take out because we love banh mi. They forgot the fried egg :( Spring rolls with crispy lumpia wrapper i think it's usually called goi cuon nem nuong. Here i think it was called sausage roll? I can't remember - he liked them but I wished the pickled veggies were more pickled. It did seem fresh though. - I didn't like how the rolls were wrapped super loosely. Ive been to places where they pack it full and the entire roll stays solid through the last bite. When rolls are wrapped loosely, it all falls apart on my plate towards the middle. I could've used more pickled veggies too! The restaurant was freezing. But I typically run warm so I'd rather it be cold than hot. I kept my coat on the entire time. There was one other couple at the time. I'm a little sad because I wanted to love this place. It's near my gym and the menu honestly looks awesome. But I'm sad that we bought so many items and didn't have rave reviews of any single dish. The service was super slow which would be fine if the flavors of the dishes were on point. I may give it another try just because I love the menu so much and it may have been opening month jitters... but not a priority right now. I'd still recommend people give it a try because there seem to be great reviews (and the owners seem like they might be listening and making changes based on some other reviews) and the space is honestly amazing. Very clean and huge and I love the artwork. Next time I come in, I'll update again :).

Yelp
Great Vietnamese option for this area, reasonably priced, modern casual decor. It's in a complex so lots of free parking! Shared the rice cakes to start (10 pieces) and had the Turmeric Noodle Soup. I would definitely order these two dishes again,

Yelp
I could consider that this restaurant should become the best Vietnamese cuisine in town, if you guys are in Renton and Seattle area. Stop by 9pm at their close time but the server still give a chance to order this amazing Shaking Beef, so I take it togo. At my first taste, it's really unique and make me want another bites. The fresh of the beef and the charming of the sauce give me unforgettable taste. Recommend this dish if you guys are a big fan of Vietnamese shaking beef. Almost close, but they still friendly to serve me like this and I feel very enjoyable. Definitely would come again and try the baby shark with my family, which is a signature of the restaurant.

Yelp
Congratulations to the opening of Sago Kitchen Walking in on a Thursday afternoon, there's plenty of seating, with a corner reserved for the bar by the register. I liked the modern setting and the chalk designs on the walls. We ordered the Lemongrass chicken($11.50), Grilled lemongrass beef ($12.50), and the hue spicy noodles ($10.50). All dishes had a good serving proportion. For the Lemongrass chicken, my grandma thought it was too spicy for her and unfortunately she couldn't finish it all but for me, I liked the flavor of the chicken. I thought it had enough spice to add a little kick to the chicken. The Grilled chicken was nice and tender on the outside, chewy but not too chewy on the inside. I think the bell peppers and pineapple were well cooked. The other components of the dish were a bit of a let down. The cabbage was not fresh and the mushroom was undercooked, still cold to my tastebuds when I had my first bite into this plate. Overall I enjoyed this colorful dish. For the noodles, unfortunately I wasn't able to sample this before my dad finished it all which means that it was most likely good. Hopefully I'll get to try the broth next time. My family and I enjoyed trying something this new cuisine in our neighborhood. The servers were kind and answered any questions we had. Looking forward to coming back here with my family.

Yelp
Loved this new addition to Renton dining. Stylish decor, cool menu, friendly service, and tasty! I had a beef banh mi sandwich, really fresh vegetables, tender beef, excellent flavor. Enjoyed with jasmine tea. Was so good I chose to take some Mongolian beef with rice home for dinner! Glad I did!

Yelp
The restaurant is located next to Renton Safeway and Renton High School. There is plenty of parking, which is nice. Now onto the food, we ordered the Fried Catfish, and I must say it was very tasty. It comes with the fresh vegetables and rice paper, so you can make an Asian burrito. The thing is huge, we ordered 4 Lbs. They get the fish daily from a local market, and salt it overnight, then grill in the morning. And then flash fry it before serving it piping hot. It is definitely worth the 40$ price tag. The flesh is flakey white and not "swampy" flavoring that comes with a bottom feeder fish. It has a very mild taste like tilapia. They do fry it whole, so if you are squeamish about having head in tact, beware. Overall, very good and highly recommended. We also ordered the calamari, you can tell these are freshly battered. They are not frozen. Very good. Also had the large pho, and the broth is very nicely seasoned, not overtly salty and not bland. Lastly, was the mushroom, eggplant, and tofu clay pot dish. This was probably my least favorite dish. It didn't come in a clay pot, but ceramic? Looks like it was stir fried and then put in a replica clay pot. They get busy, so be prepared to wave down staff for water re-fills. But, definitely a nice new addition to the area. And the interior is trendy, modern, and clean. We will be back.

Yelp
I'm going to go ahead and give this place five stars simply for the catfish experience.. we came here with seven people and a toddler and had two 4 lb catfish that you need to call ahead and order.. to make our own spring rolls and it was so awesome even though I'm really bad at making spring rolls regardless it's tasty.. The shaking beef is also really good and we tried the turmeric noodles which was refreshing.. I'll definitely be back with my parents to smash on another catfish!

Yelp
I came to Sago kitchen while stopping by Renton and ordered the Shaking Beef. At first, I thought it was a tad bit pricey ($16.50) for the portion but the food exceeded my expectations! The beef and vegetables were really tender and flavorful and each piece was consistently delicious. I would recommend this dish. Besides the food, the service was nice and restaurant had a hip, karaoke-like vibe.

Yelp
Man.. what a place. I dont know where to start, i ordered the spicy beef noodle soup, taste nothing like what it is suppose too. Had a weird fishy taste.... coming from a beef noodle soup. It goes without saying that it was bad. The service was worst than the food. They brought out the food and didnt give us napkins or silverware. Had to wait 10 min and ask twice. By which time the food was cold, and they brought cheap togo wood chopsticks while everyone else there got the real ones. Though the thing that tops all this is thier bathroom. I went in to wash my hands before the meal, but the stench and dirt in it made me lose all appetite. These are the same bathroom that their staff uses.... so i am very concern about the sanitation of the food.

Yelp
Another Vietnamese spot in downtown Renton, this one is a bit more "hip" I would say. They are known for their baby shark, which is huge, you'd need a group to help you dive into it. You'll be able to find most traditional dishes on here, I had the chicken over rice in the stone pot because I was really craving that ginger sauce favor. My friend had the baby clams. It was a casual place to meet up with a friend, I enjoyed my experience. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)

Yelp
Today was actually my second time visiting this location. The first time we wanted to try their frog congee but they didn't have any. Settled for their Bánh Canh Tôm Cua and their special rice dish. I thing special to write about asides the Bánh Canh was too salty. This time a colleague wanted to try it out. We started off with Shaking Beef and Fried intestines. Shaking beef is well prepared, good flavors, and meat was very tender. The intestine had a good amount of crisp ones on the outside and it paired well with the dipping sauce. I had the salted fish and chicken fried rice. Decent amount of salted fish but my gripe is it was a little on the soggy side. I didn't have the Bún Bò Huế this time but was told it was bland and needed some more fermented shrimp paste and a tad bit more fish sauce. Another colleague had the Banh Canh Tom Cua it said it was nothing to write home about. Overall two disappointing visits to this place. Their decor is nice but I will probably opt to try their seafood boil next time.

Yelp
If it wasn't for Yelp I wouldn't know this place existed, or that it served Vietnamese, because their signage is pretty conspicuous, tucked in the corner of some plaza, all windows heavily tinted, open sign is barely seen from the outside in the day time. Maybe they should fix that. We ordered: Quail $8 -- did not like. Too sweet, too dry. I like mine traditionally made, plain and plump. This isn't it. Wool Snail $12 -- Yasss! We liked! The consistency is like clam chowder, yet flavor remains traditional. Coconuty with hints of ginger and these delicious snails. My skin literally was silkier to the touch for the next following days, wasn't expecting that! Egg banh mi $5 (custom order)-- YES! Fresh bread, good eggs, great seasoning! hubby's favorite dish. Bun Cha Hanoi $13-- only okay. Even but probably won't order again. Not the traditional style I had in Hanoi where it was mainly tender beef and delicate broth with lots of veggies and fine vermicelli. This one here is mostly pork loaf and way too salty with thick vermicelli. Was disappointing, wasn't what I personally preferred. Art tea $7 -- the water was so lukewarm and low leveled, the flower never bloomed. I had to bring the tea bloom home in order to brew it properly! Wasn't worth that $7 for the poor dine-in experience. Sago beer -- the first one came out fine, the second one took over 30 minutes to arrive. Service Sweet staff. Poor execution. We waited 30 minutes for one of the beers to arrive, then when we liked the egg banh mi we ordered a second one to-go. That one took near an hour! Thankfully we had no place to be, but still, that's pretty bad. The waiter is sweet, but completely aloof and untrained. She never took the dirty dishes away either so we were left sitting there with piles of dirty dishes while finishing our beers and tea. I didn't want to wait so I bussed the table for her, lol. We still gave her a 15% tip! What I liked is that they're not those annoying waiters who talk to you while your mouth is full of food. What I didn't like is having to waive them down every time I needed something. They don't check in, like ever, and they definitely don't even do the minimal, either. I do appreciate that they leave me alone in peace to enjoy my meal, hence the undeserved 15%, though it is lower than our usual 20%. All in all would try again. They have some of my favorite dishes I've yet to try here, some priced at $10, WTH! Feels like cheating, and a reason to over-tip at these establishments purely for their value, even when technically (or conventionally) "undeserved". Setting: Eclectic interior. "A" for efforts, "C" for the feels of it all. "Clean enough" bathroom.

Yelp
Ordered take out and unfortunately did not have a good experience. We ordered two large Pho Tai's (beef) and an order of spring rolls. The rice noodles were under cooked to the point where we had to boil water ourselves and fully cook them. We also left notes in multiple places to add extra hoisin and sriracha but ended up with none! Personally, I cannot enjoy Pho without any hoisin. After that we discovered our spring rolls were replaced with fried dumplings that were nearly burnt. There are so many other Vietnamese Restaurants around that I'd expect any kitchen to deliver excellent service no matter how the food is being served. Whether you dine in or out quality should be the same all around and I'm afraid with my order that was not the case. Definitely sticking to our usual Pho place from now on.
