This is my family’s favorite thai restaurant in Sacramento. We always do family-style and order the yellow curry (my favorite), pineapple fried rice, and shrimp fresh rolls. Then, we have to choose between pad see ew and pad thai. My sister loves the thai tea. When I’m sick, I’m a sucker for their soups. The staff is always kind and attentive! Sai Varee has never failed us whether we dine-in, take out, or get delivery!

Google
Reasonable to lower prices with big portions. Favorable food. Cozy and clean environment with nice ambient music. Fast service (though it was almost empty on this Saturday) with a steady stream of to-go orders.

Google
Loved it. Food was excellent and service is great. Very comfortable and clean environment. Their "mild" is a little on the spicier side, so be cautious.

Google
Definitely a mixed review on this. It’s a referral from a friend for me to try this Thai restaurant. The foods is good and have many varieties of selections. Loved the traditional Thai flavors. Only thing I really dislike is the service and the waiter getting my orders wrong. In addition, he charged me an extra items that I didn’t order.

Google
Best thai food in sacramento! I've been to thailand 4 times, dated a thai girl for three years, and been to almost every thai restaurant in Sacramento County! If we're talking quality, authenticity and portions. This is the only place we go now!!

Google
We ordered calamari rings, spicy chicken drunken noodles, duck pad se ew, spicy beef thai basil and spicy chicken Thai fried rice. None of the dishes were spicy to our Asian taste buds but everything was flavorful. Calamari rings were not fresh and were chewy. Do not order duck with pad se ew, it tasted off. Portions were large and lots of protein in the dishes. Food took quite a bit to arrive maybe ~45 min.

Google
What a nice surprise! The food was delicious and enough for sharing. The papaya salad was perfect with just the right amount of spice. Will definitely be back next time I am in the area.

Google
The atmosphere is nice and cozy, however, the food we had was underwhelming. The mango curry had no color to it and it was sadly bland. You couldn't tell what the ingredients were (is this a potato, a mango, tofu?) due to how everything was the same color (minus the carrots). I also don't remember the mango curry having potato in it. It felt like the wrong curry was made and the chef hastily added mangoes to it. I asked for Roti, but wanted to know how much roti was in a serving. We weren't given a clear answer, there may have been a languag barrier. I asked for three Roti and was given three servings. So us and the waitress didn't communicate clearly. We wanted pieces not servings. Three servings is a lot for two people. The roti was incredibly oily. The flavor was oil. You can see in the photo how oily it was. We felt like the waitress knew something was off because she looked sheepish and shy when she asked how everything was. I was bummed the food was basically inedible, I've been here before and enjoyed it. Maybe they have a new chef? We went on a Thursday.

Yelp
Tucked away in the Pocket. The boat noodle soup is everything it should be--rich, deeply flavorful broth with a perfect balance of spice, sweetness, and that signature umami punch. The noodles are perfectly cooked, and the toppings (tender meat, herbs, and a hint of crispy garlic) bring it all together in a way that tells you they know what they're doing. Beyond the soup, the menu is filled with well-executed Thai classics and hidden gems. Every dish I've tried has been made with care and authenticity, and the spice level is no joke--in the best way possible. This isn't just a restaurant--it's a comfort zone for Thai food lovers. If you see boat noodle soup on the menu, you know you're in the right place. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Ambience Bright colors, very clean. Service Avocado curry brought out first, we had to ask for the white rice. My wife halfway done with curry when my chicken dish came. Place was not busy. There is lack of organization here. Avocado Curry Vegetables undercooked, avocado not ripe, curry had consistency of water. Not good. Rate 2 Spicy Basil Chicken Chicken overcooked. Vegetables fresh, nice spicy flavor. Rate 3 Brown Rice and white rice. Very good. They charged $2 to upgrade to brown rice.

Yelp
The skinny: Friendly service Delicious food Reasonably prices The lengthy: Family stopping by on the way to Incline. I tried Sai Varee a few months ago and it was very good. Sadly, it looks like a there was a break-in recently: one of the front doors was boarded up. Otherwise, everything in the restaurant seemed functional. I was greeted by the friendly host/waiter who seated me at a booth close to the door. Family was a few minutes out so i placed our order: Pad Thai with beef, green curry with pork, pineapple fried rice with chicken, sticky rice. We also ordered the angel wings appetizer when everyone arrived. - Pad Thai: solid, good flavor, no surprises good or bad - Green Curry: the softened eggplant soaked in coconut curry was delicious - Pineapple fried rice: not enough meat, but a decent amount of pineapple and plenty of flavor from the turmeric and other spices - Angel wings: these were surprisingly hearty, sauce was thinner than i expected but went well with the chicken - Sticky rice: the host disagreed that sticky rice was a good choice for curry but my table enjoyed it; the catch (silver lining? advantage?) is that there will be leftover curry I did not see the bill ("family" was composed of distinguished elders) but comments made suggested that total (incl. tax and tip) was under $70. Plus I took half of a box of food home. (Sorry i forgot to do the high chair check this time!) Overall, this was a pleasant second visit. I aim to go back.

Yelp
The best Thai wings arguably in California! Anytime and every time we are in town we will get the wings and their rice is top notch as well!

Yelp
I've probably been to 30 different Thai restaurants in my life. This is easily one of the top 3. I've eaten here more than 10 times and have had portions of at least 15 different dishes. All of them were excellent
google avatar

Nancy V.

Yelp
Crab rangoons were crispy on the outside but the cream cheese on the inside was cold. Red curry was ok, not as flavorful/coconuty as I like. The drunken noodles were good though. Service was good and that's is why I'm giving them 4 stars.
google avatar

Cha Y.

Yelp
Quiet and cozy vibe, fast service and attentive server. Loved how it was seasoned & the vegetables were nicely steamed. Nice portion for the price. Green thai tea is unique, I don't see that often. Always solid, consistent, reliable.

Yelp
Its been a minute so we decided to come here again. We tried the pad thai, green curry and yellow curry all with beef. Prices were raised a tiny bit but pretty good considering how expensive everywhere else is. They took around 15-20 minutes for the food to come out. The flavoring was pretty good for everything, pad thai is on the sweeter side which i dont rly mind. The oad thai noodles were undercooked tho, very chewy and can definitely tell. The beef was also quite chewy as well, not tender, for all three dishes. For the yellow curry a couple of the potatoes were still crunchy too. I feel like portions got smaller too? But i dont rly remember the last time

Candyce J.

Yelp
Amazing service and food. The waiters were funny and the place was nice, and the food tasted amazing. Highly recommend the yellow curry.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. The food is delicious and very flavorful. The service is wonderful and the restaurant itself has a nice ambiance. I have my favorites and usually stick to them. I highly recommend this gem within the pocket Greenhaven neighborhood.

Yelp
Food was amazing and our servers were very friendly. We had a large group and they're very accommodating, they even were ok paying individually.

Yelp
It was our 12th anniversary and as we were so busy with moving to the new area, it was already 8:20pm and this was the only restaurant opened. We didn't expect anything really, but the food came surprisingly well. We wanted no spice to all dishes because we have a two year old with us, and the staff was so nice to help us ensure everything comes with no spice. There was music in the restaurant where my boy danced to too, which was cute. We ordered at 8:25pm and finished the meal at 8:55pm. All in all it was a very pleasant experience! Very glad to have our anniversary here :)
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
Ordered spicy beef salad, mussmun curry and karee puff. All were good but the beef in the salad and curry were overcooked. Portion was decent. Service was alright as they were understaffed. The restaurant seemed clean.

Yelp
We went here for a birthday dinner, and it was cozy and relaxing and a great place to meet with friends. The tables are well spaced apart but could easily be moved to accommodate multiple large groups. The benches were very comfortable to sit in. We would've stayed there all night if we could. I think it was the manager or owner who served us. He was very fun to talk to and even gave us a little lesson about Thai cuisine. My party shared a variety of dishes family style. My favorite was the yum woonsen. They gave a generous amount of meat, including shrimp. The other dishes were also well-flavored. They had fresh prik nam pla!

Yelp
Honestly their pad Thai here is super good! They're also very good with directions on doordash! I'm reviewing based on my doordash order but I'll definitely order from here again(: would love to dine in and update my review based on that!

Stacia L.

Yelp
Excellent food; relaxed, quiet atmosphere. A hidden gem! The pad thai and red curry sauce deserve special note!
google avatar

Yelp
The best Thai food in town. Their Tom Kha is amazing! Chicken satay is phenomenal and their Thai tea and mango sticky rice will have you coming back weekly. I recommend going any day, but Wednesday/Thursday (that's when JJ isn't working.)
google avatar

Yelp
This place is my local go to Thai spot and sorry that it took so long for me to do review. The staff is always so quick to greet you with a friendly and welcoming smile. They bring menus and water almost upon sitting down and when ordering it seems like it only takes minutes to get the food, especially if you're having an appetizer. Besides the great service, the food is always amazing super hot and fresh and theydon't skim on ingredients. My favorite is the avocado curry, tom kha and pad Thai noodles. The food is consistent and so is the service and quality. Even if I moved out of the area, I would make it a point to come back here you gotta check out this little hidden gem.

Yelp
We were starving and in the neighborhood. We looked into Yelp for restaurants to choose from. We decided on Sai Varee Thai Cuisine. As we entered the restaurant, we were quickly greeted by a very nice lady. She gave us a choice of tables and we picked the one we liked. She had menus ready for us. She took our drink orders, and we looked over the menu. We decided to have the Thai Iced Tea. It was delicious! I opted for the Pork Larb and sticky rice. My friend ordered the Eggplant. The food was FABULOUS and authentic. Overall, a GREAT experience! The couple worked together as a team were awesome! I will be coming back here very soon!!!
google avatar

Yelp
We've had Sai Varee on repeat the past couple of days and it's been fire each and every visit. This last time we decided to venture out and try their coconut soup for the first time- hubby already talking about getting it tomorrow lol. They were out of crab langoon so they replaced our request with the spicy wings. The wings were yummy with a nice crunch, just a little on the salty side. We usually order the (shrimp) fresh rolls and wonton noodle soup. All delicious and the staff is always so friendly. Definitely one of our favorite Thai restaurants; everyone we bring wants to come back by the ways!

Yelp
Thank you, Sai Varee, for ALWAYS being so gooooood to me since I first stepped in your lovely establishment in October of 2016.... As soon as you walk in, you are greeted soooo kindly by all the servers or managers. And they WILL remember you, your orders, how you like your food and what you like to drink! My first time walking in there was about 7 years ago, I was working at 711 and had the early morning 6am, which ended at 2pm. So, by the time I was off work, boyyyyyyyy my tummy was SANGIN' to me! I had the rest of the whole day to myself to decide what to do, but EAT was the main priority FIRST! There, I found Sai Varee on Yelp, and ya girl was NOT an active Yelper, which absolutely ZERO pics n reviews, let alone Yelp Elite! Walked in and was greeted by my sweet Jay Jay, who is the MOST kindest, sweetest server I have ever met! And yes, he is still there! Walking in the ambiance is nice and chill. Everything is clean! Restrooms are always immaculate! I always get the basil chicken or pork with steamed rice! And TWO EGGS! Y'all knew/know that! The point is food is cooked freshed with the freshest ingredients ALWAYS! And I absolutely LOVE their condiments, all kinds of ways to heat up your dish! I have always DINED IN! I have NEVER taken take out or did DoorDash! That's how much I LOVE and feel comfortable at this wonderful Thai eatery! I will never forget back in 2016 on my 29th birthday. How you guys surprised me some yummy dessert with a candle and even SANG Happy Birthday to me for my last year in my 20s. Fun Fact: I have dined in SO MANY times, and it's always been just me, myself, and I! It's time to take some company to my happy place!
google avatar

Mychossue J.

Yelp
The lady gave me a steak soup salad instead of beef larb I ordered. The flat noodles was soggy and broke apart once the hot soup was poured on it. I definitely won't be coming back and wasting my money.
google avatar

Leeann L.

Yelp
Sai Varee is still one of the places I usually stop by for Thai food when I am in sac! Today I went with a group of people after church and really appreciated how quick the staff was there. One of the waiters there is really sweet and he cracks jokes with us and checked up on us throughout the meal. Today I got the roasted duck curry which was so good(love their pineapple curry as well and how they don't skimp on ingredients). The coconut milk flavor never ceases to shine and I think that the medium spice is perfect for my palate. I will say the rice to curry ratio is 3:1 which is kind of sad and I'm docking a star off just because I feel like for some of the other items especially the pad Thai the portion can be pretty inconsistent. The flavors of the pad Thai, basil fried rice, and pad see ew are all solid I just wish portions could be consistent. I also appreciated how gratuity was included in the receipt. Needless to say I will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I was kind of skeptical about trying Sai Varee, since many Thai places will not make you pick between the certain ingredients Sai Varee makes you choose between in their dishes. For example, in their Green or Red Curry, instead of serving the dish with both ingredients, they make you choose between eggplant or bamboo shoots. Another disappointing discovery was that the online menu says under the curry selections that it's served with jasmine rice or brown rice, but sticky rice can be substituted for an additional charge. It's actually an additional charge for brown rice too, so they should update their menu. The item I tried wasn't bad, but wasn't the best either. I had the Green Curry to go, with eggplant and tofu (you pick between tofu and chicken). The curry was very oily, I've never had curry before where you can see the layer of oil form on the surface and all the oil bubbles when eating it. Overall, taste was good. I'd say give it a try, but it's not up there with my favorite places for Thai food.
google avatar

Levii T.

Yelp
What can I say but WOW! You guys never seem to disappoint me with the pad Thai and red curry as well as the speedy service! Love how y'all fill the to go cup of red curry all the way to the top along with bountiful veggies! I'm so sorry I cheated on you guys! Don't read my other reviews about other restaurants red curry because they can't even compete! I forgot how good the red curry is here! I just love love love how much veggies & protein I get in just one to go cup! & omg did I forget to mention the Pad Thai?! It is so good! Super flavorful! Red curry doesn't drown out the flavor like other places I've tried. Also the tofu skin is flavorful too unlike some other places that have super bland pad Thai tofus. Oh and I'd like to update my previous review about the white rice! They're so much better! Not hard or mushy; I can actually taste each grain of rice. Also! If you're wondering, I got medium spicy & my lips are on fire since I haven't had spice in awhile! But this is a delicious great start! It's spicy but I can still taste everything which is a great thing! I'm so glad I'm close to this Thai restaurant because y'all gonna see more of me! Pro Tip: prepare some tissues for that runny nose if you're getting super spicy dishes!
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
We ordered takeout and the food was good but portions were small. Pad Kee Mao was very flavorful. The chicken Pad Thai was delicious. The curry also included rice which was a plus since we did not need to pay additional for rice. The vegetable Tom Kha was tasty and included lots of vegetables. Considering there are not many Thai restaurants in this area, I would only come back if I did not want to travel far for better Thai food.

Marinda R.

Yelp
Normally love this place, but with the change over from their own online ordering to Grubhub ordering, it's no longer possible to specify a spice level or protein choice. Really without being able to specify your choices why would anyone want to go to a restaurant?
google avatar

Carol S.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place, the food and their staff. Excellent value, great service! Love their won ton soups, curries and Thai basil. Great addition to the neighborhood, Thumbs up! One of the best Thai restaurants in Sac!!

Julia F.

Yelp
YUMMMY YUMMY!! 10/10 My to go to spot everytime!! Love all their food, my favorite is the yellow curry!! And the Thai tea is just a hit. The customer service is so great and they're so fast. Love how it's always fresh! Deff recommend this spot!

Shaysa A.

Yelp
Called to order VEGAN food and they said everything has fish sauce now! VEGANS BEWARE.
google avatar

Yelp
I decided to come here because I was craving Thai food and I was in the area. I was not disappointed at all. My girlfriend and I ordered the Krapow Moo Grob and the Salmon Paradise. The Krapow Moo Grob was crispy fried pork belly stir fried in a chili garlic sauce with vegetables. This is definitely a good dish, however my only complaint would be the pork belly was a little dry. When I walked in I saw they had the daily special on the white board which was the Salmon Paradise and I had to give it a try. It was made up of salmon, asparagus and bell peppers all in a red curry sauce with a side of rice. This was by far the star of the meal. The red curry really hit the spot and was super flavorful. It was the type of flavor that warms your heart. I do wish they had an option to add spice to the curry because it came fairly mild and the only way I could make it spicy was to add chili myself. The restaurant was almost empty when we ate here and the staff was super friendly and welcoming to us. Overall, I will be returning here in the near future.

Kathy G.

Yelp
Our local and closest Thai restaurant. We really appreciate their pad thai always comes with tofu and a protein of your choice and love their yellow curry. I do wish they didn't downsize their to go containers though.
google avatar

Marie T.

Yelp
Sai Varee has great tasting food at least my family and extended family thinks so. But I was disappointed when I ordered the chicken curry and received tofu curry. As soon as I bit down on that squishy crap, I knew something was wrong. I just don't like the texture. So, word to the wise when getting take out, make sure you unwrap allllllll that saran wrap on the tub and ensure you receive what you ordered and paid for; just a suggestion......I learned my lesson.
google avatar

KaeRae Art C.

Yelp
Just 2 Things: 1) Buy the Angel Wings appetizer and share one wing with a friend. 2) Buy the mango and sweet rice dessert. Share this awesome dish with a friend or perhaps two friends. Enough said about the enjoyable food. These are my two favorite foods of all time. Other friends always order the pad Thai.
google avatar

Marta B.

Yelp
Sai Varee is a hidden gem tucked away in the Promenade Shopping Center in Rush River in the Greenhaven/Pocket area. We were delighted by friendly, welcoming service, a clean modern atmosphere and terrific Thai cuisine. I ordered the avocado curry which was creamy, spicy and filled with tasty vegetables. My husband ordered the salmon fried rice which he enjoyed. NOTE: the portions are large
google avatar

Sarah N.

Yelp
The food was really good. I really enjoyed the sweet mango rice. Although I have never seen a green tinted rice, it didn't taste any different. Plenty of mango and just the right amount of rice. Super refreshing warm or cold. I had enough left after dinner to have it for breakfast. It was still as good as it was the night before.
google avatar

Dick L.

Yelp
Food is excellent and comes in super large portions. We usually do take out and our food is always ready on time and is piping hot! Service is excellent: they are always super friendly and they are REALLY appreciative of tips! Ordering over the phone is super quick & easy and they are really good about omitting ingredients if asked (my bro hates bean sprouts & onions). Never in the years I have been eating here have they gotten an order wrong in any way. And I did eat in one time a while back and the service was excellent. It's also a nice place inside. Very clean and open. But I LOVE their Spiced Red Curry with chicken and their Pad Thai is excellent. My brother is in love with their crab Rangoon and kills an entire order to himself every time! Even my Mom, who is both allergic to soy & has Celiac Disease (wheat gluten allergy) can order the drunken noodles, which she loves, because it doesn't contain any ingredients she is sensitive to. And she has also never become sick due to cross contamination which has happened at other restaurants. This is one of the few places where everyone in my family can order something and the food is amazing! We always get a ton of delicious food for a very reasonable price when we order here. And our business seems to be very appreciated by how amazing our experiences always are. This is pretty much our go-to place for take out anymore. Man, I am getting hungry ‍
google avatar

Rose R.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times and it's still very good. The steam bass is delicious and a must try (call ahead because it takes time to cook). The owner is incredibly nice, place is clean, and food is delicious

Christina L.

Yelp
Came here with friends, and it was all our first time here. The food and service was decent, nothing too special and I actually considered coming back initially until ..... My husband snuck away and paid for the bill early before our friends could get to it and did not write in a tip because we always tip in cash. So my husband comes back and we enjoyed the rest of the dinner just talking catching up with our friends. We got caught up in our conversations and forgot to leave a tip before we left. The waiter very rudely chased after us as we exited outside, YELLING at us and asking us if something was wrong with the service or food, because why did we not leave a tip!? I was absolutely humiliated in front of our friends and so shocked as this was the first time something like this has ever happened to me. Our friends graciously and generously handed the waiter a tip. This will be our first and very last time ever going there after that incident. Any chances of us returning are gone. We understand everyone works hard so we always tip generously as well, but the way we were treated and humiliated over an honest mistake is appalling. You do not treat people that way, and you especially do not confront someone demanding for a tip! A tip is not required and definitely was not deserved that day.

Yelp
Great food and good service. The Tom Yum noodle soup is delicious! I had other food there before and like all of them!

Yelp
Only come here if you like delicious Thai food! Red curry - yum Special fried rice- yum yum

Yelp
My boss took me here for my early birthday. There were plenty of parking space. It's a very nice restaurant, clean & friendly atmosphere and the staff greeted us as we enter and told us to sit anywhere. She came and gave us a menu and gave us some time to look. When she came back, my boss asked a few questions about the portions and she clarify it and even joke about it. She seemed to be the only person assisting everyone in the dining. After we ordered, we waited for our hot tea but took awhile even After we got our appetizer and main dishes. Otherwise, my pad thai was delicious, the fish cakes were crispy & tasty.
google avatar

Marie Jane L.

Yelp
This place is one of our favorite go-to. Their food is always spot on whether you're dining in or having your food delivered. One of the reason we keep coming back to this place aside from their delectable dishes is their service, this place also have a very welcoming atmosphere. Here are some of our favorites if in case you are looking for recommendations - Satay (chicken or Tofu) - Coconut shrimp - Eggplant - Pumpkin curry - Pad thai - Crispy duck - Grilled BBQ thai style chicken - Thai Tea - Butterfly Pea lemonade

Yelp
The food was amazing and our server, Jay Jay was super funny and nice to us. I would definitely come back again

Yelp
The restaurant has a beautiful interior with lots of greenery, creating the atmosphere of a tranquil greenhouse. The staff is very efficient, and even charmingly hilarious. The waiter for our table did not hesitate to throw some clever quips our way #ROFL . Anywho, I ordered the pad see ew (with chicken). Its flavors danced on my tongue, and I could tell from the first bite that it was crafted by a master chef. My ex ordered the House Noodle Soup. As soon as it was brought out, I immediately thought, "What a bargain!" This soup, which is priced slightly cheaper than all the other entrees, could easily be split between two people, not that you would want to share! It's perfect for a cold winter day (or any day, really). I'm writing this review in the midst of the 2024 presidential election, and this restaurant is the pick-me-up America needs. Show this place some love!
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
My husband phone ordered two pad thai with chicken and received chicken satay. When i went back in to correct the order the cashier raised his voice and said "I was on the phone too no he said chicken satay." I was calm and just needed the order to be fixed since chicken satay is not similar to pad thai. They fixed the order and we paid the difference. Overall the food was good and I would come back. Accountability is needed when cashier.

Yelp
Omg! Their seafood soup gave me back my life when I was super sick last year! Plus the fact that it's right by my house is a plus. I've tried a couple of other rice dishes but that seafood soup is a must!!!

Yelp
After our last visit, we are done here. We popped in on a Friday night. They were understaffed, as usual. We expected it. What we did NOT expect was the guy who always works the dining room to lie and tell us there would be an hour and a half wait for food. We left to consider our options, and I decided I really wanted some Tom kha because theirs is my favorite. We went back inside & told the guy we would take our chances. He seated us & took our order. We thanked him for seating us quickly & taking our order & he admitted he lied to try and get us to leave. Do that to people who never eat in your place, not to people who pop in all the time for Tom kha & other delights.

Yelp
I order take out a lot here. In fact I've never dined in, so my review is all about the food and friendly service. I've tried many menu items. My favorites are Larb Gai, Mussamun Curry and Eggplant Stir Fry. When I want something on the lighter side I order Thai Salad or Fresh Roll. Some of the meat dishes are on the dry side, but the Grilled BBQ Pork Ribs are mighy tasty.
