"Saigon Block is most famous for its Cá Nướng Da Giòn, a whole baked catfish that is great for big groups. Butterflied, marinated, topped with peanuts, crispy shallots, and scallions, the catfish meat is wrapped in lettuce and filled with a choice of herbs and pickles." - Didi Paterno

If you’re looking for the best crispy fried fish in Dallas, Saigon Block is the place to go! The fish is perfectly fried—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, with amazing flavors that make it stand out. It’s a must-try! Another highlight is the Thai Spicy Soup, which is hands down the best I’ve had. The broth is rich, flavorful, and has the perfect level of heat to warm you up. Every spoonful is packed with fresh ingredients and authentic spices that make it incredibly satisfying. Beyond the food, the service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is cozy yet lively, making it a great spot for gatherings or a casual meal. If you’re craving delicious Vietnamese dishes with bold flavors, Saigon Block will not disappoint! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) Highly recommend!

March 2025 This is a wonderful place with a large baked catfish. Very tasty and bones were removed. Great family meal sharing a large entree of catfish. The texture was crispy and the fish was tender. Great food and recommended highly. Love to revisit for a family meal.

Google
We always make a reservations when we go here but they always seem to have not written it down or has forgot. Very unorganized. The baked catfish are hit or miss, sometimes it's fresh and sometimes you can tell that it's old. Servers could be more helpful and not as forgetful. We love the fish sauce here though. One of the few okay baked fish places so unfortunately we do come back.

Best Vietnamese meal we’ve had in a long time. Every single bite was delicious. We ordered number 66. Service was fantastic. Ask for Quan. Super nice. Very friendly. Overall, great guy!!!! We will be back to try everything else on the menu.

Saigon Block is a fantastic spot for authentic Vietnamese cuisine! The restaurant is spacious, offering a comfortable and relaxing dining atmosphere. The service is top-notch, with staff who are attentive and friendly. Most importantly, the food is absolutely delicious and truly captures the essence of Vietnamese authenticity. A must-visit for anyone craving a genuine Vietnamese dining experience!

Google
So good! We got the 7 entree deal for the 8 of us along with the hot pot. We all were super stuffed. Every dish came out savory and full of flavor. If we ever come around this area, we would definitely come again. Come try this place out. O! And the customer service was really good as well. The brought out the food in a fast and efficient manner.

Google
We had a reservation but still had to wait almost 45 minutes for our table. Service was slow and had to flag down staffs several times. However, staffs were very nice and friendly. It seemed like they were extremely busy that day and did not have a good system. I came for their famous Baked catfish dish -Ca Nuong Da Gion and 7 courses of Beef. I was very satisfied with our main dishes. We did order some desserts like caramel flan and Che Ba Mau, but I wasn’t impressed. The place was spacious suitable for big party/family gathering. Overall, I would come back for the baked catfish, with hope the service will be better.

Google
This Vietnamese restaurant offers an impressive showcase of traditional flavors, with the baked catfish standing out as a true highlight. Served whole and butterflied down the middle, the catfish features crispy skin and pairs well with the scallion peanut topping. Accompanied by a spread of fresh herbs, pickled vegetables, rice paper, and fish sauce for dipping, it reflects accurate and vibrant flavors of Vietnamese cuisine. Unfortunately service was disengaged and inattentive, with minimal interaction once orders were taken. Table cleanliness was inconsistent, with visibly dirty surfaces and sticky seating. Ultimately, the food is outstanding and worth overlooking the service, which reflects a more traditional, no-frills dining experience. If you're comfortable with that, this restaurant is well worth a visit.

Yelp
I used to come here as a child with my family, and after coming back today it is as good as I remember! We had the large baked catfish, mainly because they were out of the medium, and it was delicious. The skin is crispy, the fish is tender and fragrant, and the rau (veggies, herbs) were crisp and fresh. We also ordered a cafe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee) and a sua dau nanh (soybean milk), which both were good as well. The sua dau nanh has the green color from the addition of pandan, which is how I prefer it. The service was fine; a very standard Vietnamese restaurant service and feel. They even have the classic restaurant fish tank that reminds me of my childhood. I will say that we sat in a booth along the wall opposite the kitchen and it did get a little chilly in that area. If you are not used to eating Vietnamese cuisine, be aware that there will be bones in the baked fish that you will need to pick out as you eat! The server removed the spine and major bones of the fish, but there are smaller bones that you may find in the meat of the fish.

Yelp
We got in very late for dinner, half hour before closing. We missed their famous catfish entree, since it should be an hour at least for us to be able to order it. We settled for grilled boneless pork chop with steam rice and chicken pho. Also, their shrimp spring rolls. The grilled pork chop is bland. It should have been marinated overnight to get the real taste of grilled pork chop. Same as the chicken pho. The shrimp spring rolls need more shrimps and not all noodles. Serving staff are helpful and respectful. Clean and well decorated Vietnamese Restaurant. Will be back to try their famous catfish on their menu.

Yelp
I came here in the recommendation of a friend. She claim this place to have the best ca nuong (baked catfish). It seems like they are very known for their ca nuong dish since almost everyone came in to order this dish. My family and I came to ordered a large ca nuong, cua lot chien no (soft shelled crab sautéed in garlic & butter) for appetizer. The food was okay, nothing special or stood out to me. In fact, the food was overly greasy. Especially the soft shell crab, it was so greasy throughout the fish that my family and I can only take a few bites and cannot finish it. It was drowned in oil. The catfish was decent, still greasy. It seems like they fried their fish rather than baked it. Overall, I can't say much about this place besides trying their famous dish, but their famous dish was quite disappointing for us!

Marie N.

Yelp
Saigon block is THE spot for a whole catfish to make spring rolls with. It's one of the cleanest places despite always being busy. Also very family friendly with really good lighting. Service is ok depending on the day, but you're really here for the food I recommend getting a large fish over the medium one for better texture and the meat doesn't fall apart as much. They always give you a lot of veggies and noodles to make your spring rolls. The fried squid was also really good and it was a large portion! 5/5 place if you want to impress your Asian parents

Amie N.

Yelp
You can tell this is a truly authentic Vietnamese restaurant because they serve a full catfish (ca nuong) as well as mam nem. It came with rice paper, vermicelli, and lots of fresh vegetables so you can make your own spring rolls with the fish. The catfish comes in three sizes: medium, large, x-large. We wanted the medium but they said they only had a large left, so we ordered that one and split it amongst three people. We ate all of the rice paper but there was enough leftover fish and vegetables for maybe 3-4 more spring rolls. I really enjoyed it though!! The fish was super moist and the skin was SUPERR crispy, it was so delicious. I would absolutely recommend coming here!

Jesmin N.

Yelp
We came for the 7 course beef that they have, but on the day we came they were out of a few of the dishes that come in that experience. The staff suggested something else that was slightly similar to what we wanted. The grilled beef is good, tender, and flavorful. The shrimp on the sugar cane was good but needed a pinch of salt. All the veggies that come with the dish were fresh and crisp. The dipping sauces are perfect accompaniments. It came with rice paper and noodles so we basically got to make our own spring rolls in a variety of different combinations. Hopefully next time they have the 7 course experience available.

Hannah N.

Yelp
Gosh it's been several years since I've been here. I had the baked catfish dish then and remembered it being good. I don't know why I haven't been back. Probably the drive. Found myself back here recently and was wowed all over again. I was reminded of why the baked catfish dish is their specialty. It is served spring roll style that you assemble yourself and comes with a tray of veggies, rice paper, bowl of water, and dipping sauce. The fish came out beautifully presented on a platter. The skin was crispy and the fish inside was juicy and succulent. I love the peanut and green onion garnishes. They also have the more popular bo 7 mon which offers 7 courses of beef dishes. We opted for just the 2 dish version. The grilled beef with scallion was so juicy and flavorful. I've been craving it since. The other meat is bo la lot which is a ground meat roll wrapped in betel leaves and then grilled. They have long tables to accommodate large groups and also comfy booths for smaller parties. The service was quick and friendly even with a packed house. We were greeted and seated promptly. I can't wait to go back!

Reynu S.

Yelp
Updated to 4 stars. Spring rolls are the way to go but the Bo luc lac / cube beef is also pretty good. The baked whole catfish is the way to go. It's available in various sizes, as detailed in the menu. At time of writing the medium is $62 and comfortably feeds 4-5 people. Order as soon as you get there because they prepare it fresh and it takes 20mins minimum to arrive. The catfish is baked to perfection and presents a crisp skin that reveals a succulent meat. It is garnished generously with fried shallots, peanuts and scallions. Since this is the place for spring rolls, the catfish is served with a vegetable plate (Thai Basil, chameleon mint, cucumber, picked carrot and daikon, and lettuce), fermented fish sauce and sweet chili sauce. There are also various noodles available for extra charge, which I highly recommend. Also I recommend the egg soda if you've never tried it before or are too lazy to pasteurize eggs at home.

John L.

Yelp
The staff was nice and the restaurant was clean. However the fish was kind of powdery. There was no bite to the meat. It just disintegrated in your mouth.

Chad J.

Yelp
I came here for the catfish they are known for and it was great! However the service is just not great, or maybe horrible? I was surprised how slow it was on a Tuesday night at 7pm.... We were the ONLY customers! So how can the service be so bad? I have no idea we had call and beg/ask for attention to get anything! So disappointing!! Food is good, Service is HORRIBLE!

Dan N.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon and I had a great experience. They are known for their baked fished so that what we ordered. They only had the medium size that day so if you want to eat a bigger size fish I would order and reserve a few days ahead. The fish was crispy and had just the right amount of fluffiness. They also debone the fish for you as well so if you like the bone in you would need to tell them. We came as a party of seven and the service was good. The restaurant was clean, and the atmosphere was lively. The place was modern and featured in a lot of articles. I tried the Beef Pho and it was a little underwhelming. I also had tried the flan desert and it was okay. Not super amazing but not bad either. It would be a good choice if you wanted dessert. Overall, I would recommend this place for some Vietnamese fish.

Crystal C.

Yelp
Pros: did a yelp search for "bo 7 mon" and this was one of 2 places suggested. They were both within a mile of each other, so we picked this one as it had more reviews. Eggrolls were so good. Made with rice paper. I got the lemonade, vinegar hotpot beef, and a Thai dessert. My husband got chargrilled meat with noodles. Our friend liked his fried rice. Service was good. Accepts credit cards. We will definitely be back the next time we're in town. Cons: none I can think of. Price maybe? But maybe it's proved right cause we had a ton of leftovers.

Paley W.

Yelp
This place definitely has best meat in pho around DFW. The meat is very tender and soft and that applies all types of the meat. I would suggest trying the combination pho if it's your first time since it has filet mignon. The broth is pretty clean and not as salty as most pho establishments. Imperial egg rolls is worth trying; it's different from regular egg rolls and very soften items inside. In addition to pho their have a pretty extensive menu.

Joseph R.

Yelp
Second time being here, and the food and service was no better than the first time. Overall, the restaurant was clean, but the food and location would prevent me from returning. Had the extremely salty catfish and dry chicken and pork rice plates. Neither were good and prices high for what you receive. Won't be back.

Kenny I.

Yelp
Its a nice restaurant, very clean and has a relaxing atmosphere, especially with the water fountain at the front entrance. The food was good, the fish had a nice crispy crunch to it, and the food came pretty fast. They have good customer service as well. I would definitely reconmend this place.

Krista G.

Yelp
We went to Saigon Block to try their pho and rice dishes. I had the Saigon Pho and my husband ordered #47 (Korean style short ribs). Unfortunately the ribs were so popular that night they sold out by the time we ordered so the waiter suggested #46 (flame-broiled marinated sirloin) instead. The pho was awesome. The broth was full of flavor and there was no shortage of meat. The sirloin came plated with rice and garnished with pickled carrots. The carrots were a great addition to the plate. The meat was tender and seasoned well. The prices were reasonable and we had plenty of food. The restaurant is well lit with open seating. We sat in a booth and were able to see all the foods coming out. Everything was well plated and the staff was hustling. For a Monday night, this place was packed.

Lexie C.

Yelp
My family, friends, and I love Saigon Block. We love coming here for their baked whole catfish as it can feed many people and is a good way to get your veggies in on the side too. It can also be a good bonding experience when teaching/helping friends or family roll their spring rolls when eating this dish. For sides, we like to order Chao Tom which is very nostalgic for me and I probably order it every time I go to Saigon Block. Service is usually great and friendly and nothing we have ordered has ever taken too long to come out which is a plus. The ambiance of this restaurant is very family friendly so that everyone can enjoy if they're with a group of friends or their family just wanting to grab a bite to eat.

Juliet L.

Yelp
Saigon block is a good find in Richardson area if you're looking for tasty Vietnamese food. We got the famous baked catfish here where you roll it into spring rolls. Everyone had a good time bonding while making their spring rolls. The dipping sauces were plentiful and you could choose from two sauces. One is more aromatic than the other. I will definitely be back with my family!

Mary V.

Yelp
Warning: Extremely long wait times on Sundays. This place isn't always consistent in service but the food is fairly decent. The famous baked catfish is a little expensive but it's worth it especially if you have a large crowd. The sauce (mam nem) isn't overly pungent so this is a good place to take people to try authentic viet dishes. Plus there's two types of sauces I'd you prefer something lighter. I highly recommend the Bò 7 Món (7 Course of Beef). (5/5) for all the fantastic rich, hearty flavors as well.

Coleen R.

Yelp
The only reason I have it a 3 is that If you are vegan then this place is not for you. Not many options but they were so nice to accommodate and make me something. It has a family feeling and a great place for groups!

Larry L.

Yelp
As someone who grew up with little exposure to Vietnamese food outside of pho, this place was a cool new experience. The second you look inside, you'll see every table with a healthy spread of assorted greens (greenleaf lettuce, Thai Basil, and bean sprouts). Most customers order (ca nuong), a specially-prepared whole catfish with crispy skin and tender flesh. You can eat the fish alone or wrapped with fresh veggies in a sheet of rice paper (immediately softens when briefly dipped in a bowl of water). They have a special dipping sauce too. Novice diners can ask for peanut sauce or nuoc mam instead.

Thuy N.

Yelp
The restaurant serves delicious fried fish with prompt service. Ordering in advance is necessary as they prepare the fish several hours beforehand, but the taste makes it worthwhile!

Connie H.

Yelp
Ive been here twice for the seven course beef and both times ive been told they dont have it available. Take it off the menu already! Otherwise, seating happens quick. Food is good. Service is as needed, meaning flag them down bc they wont be checking on you. I'd recommend still as good is good, just be ready to be flexible as they're often out of certain items.

Em J.

Yelp
Came here on a weekend - it was hopping, but we were able to get seats pretty fast. We were also brought water and menu right away. We ordered the baked catfish and the egg yolk condensed milk soda. The meal came with fresh vegetables and diy spring rolls. The food was delicious. Ambiance is a bit loud - perfect place for family/friend celebrations. I enjoyed the food and the service.

n l.

Yelp
We bought Togo at Saigon Block. The Vietnamese rare beef in lime juice salad (Bò tái Chanh) was fairly disappointed. The beef was very chewy and very thickly sliced. Not enough lime juice in the salad. The restaurant sautéed the beef instead of cooking the beef in lime juice. The dish was very small and it was $28 plus tax.

Tony B.

Yelp
Food always good, very good Vietnamese authentic fry fish, 7 courses beef dishs in North Dallas. Good atmosphere, a nice place to take your friends and out of town visitors. Very good service, and clean.

Gwen P.

Yelp
My family often order the fried fish meal here whenever we visit from out of town. The fish is fresh and they give a generous amount of veggie for the rolls. I have not dine on site yet but the staff that handle the to-go orders are courteous and they help me bring out the items to the car whenever I am by myself.

Deborah L.

Yelp
A must try for anyone wanting to try authentic Vietnamese food that's not pho. Between 3-4 people, it's best to order either their baked crispy fish or the seven course beef meal. It comes with fresh veggies, rice paper, noodles, and sauce so you assemble your own rolls. The seven course beef comes with cold beef salad, beef congee, raw beef slices to cook over a stove of vinegar broth, and four other types of seasoned beef. My favorite of the seven was Bo La Lot: char grilled lemongrass beef wrapped in Hawaiian leaves. A tie for favorite is also the beef slices wrapped around green onions and beef congee (porridge). Unfortunately they ran out of the meatballs with noodles inside, so I didn't get to try that this time, but they gave us extra bo La lot instead. It's no wonder why the tables are huge because you need lots of space for all that food. I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable the spread was: just shy of $50! We would probably spend more on groceries to recreate the meal and spend hours prepping and cooking. Def take advantage of their check in deal for free spring rolls or egg rolls!

Melanie T.

Yelp
When we were dining here, the majority of the tables ordered the fried catfish. While on the menu, it lists different sizes of the fish but in reality, it really is just what they have in stock so we ordered the bigger fish since it was the only option available. The fish was huge so it was more than enough for our party of 5. We would have ordered more but because the fish was big, we only ordered mussels as our second dish. Everything was yummy and electrifying with flavors. The fish came with rice paper and plenty of vegetables. It tastes really good as a wrap. We are not fans of the sauce so we switched it with fish sauce instead. If you're looking for something new to try, I recommend the salted lemon soda. It's a refreshing drink during the summer heat.

Renko R.

Yelp
I always come here for the Baked Whole Fish! Always get the largest one they have because it can be so addicting! Eating it with the veggies and noodle wrap (that you prepare yourself) makes it a wonderfully tasty spring roll type meal. The 7 Course Beef is also something that worth trying. Order these two things, and you'll be completely satisfied!

Hong L.

Yelp
Coming from out of town, this was our first stop and the food hit the spot. Their menu is extensive with a lot of the well-known Vietnamese dishes & appetizers. I'm a big fan of DIY rolls and I would recommend the ca nuong or baked catfish, which seems to the popular dish here with almost every table around us ordering this. They have 3 sizes (medium, large, and extra large) and is the perfect order to share. The skin so extra crispy and the fish had a lot of meat. We also ordered the bo la lot (beef wrapped in betal leaf), com tam (broken rice), nem nuong (grilled pork spring rolls), and chao tom (shrimp sugarcane), which were all also very good. Seems like a good place to come for a variety of Vietnamese dishes to please everyone in your party.

quoc n.

Yelp
This place head good service and everything I've tried so far was good. The fried catfish here was really good. Not a lot of bones was a plus. The pho was also pretty good too.

Nathan P.

Yelp
Omg this is än absolutely amazing restaurant. The dining room is spacious and very clean . The service was also excellent. We ordered the medium fish and appetizers for 4 people . The food came out was nice and warm. They deboned the fish for us which was an excellent way to serve fish. The fish skin was nice and crunchy like potato chips. The meat was moist and juice and delicious . The fish was super fresh. The appetizers was also excellent. The food was beyond expectations. As I write this review the next day, I m still salivating from the meal I had the previous day

Roberto G.

Yelp
My friend has been trying to get me out here for quite some time now. Finally made it. What an amazing experience. All the food was amazing, complaints whatsoever. The dishes we ordered were all brought out family style. We ordered two main dishes and 2 appetizers and that was more than enough for four people; very hearty portions. All in all, it was a great experience and I will definitely return without a doubt.

Sang T.

Yelp
DO NOT order Bo Tai Chanh. It has a few pieces of beef, some shredded onions on it, and a couple of lemon on the side. It's totally not Bo Tai Chanh or any kind of beef dish, and it costs $28. The worst I ever had.

Eddie N.

Yelp
Wonderful, great portion, delicious! Ambience cozy and inviting. Lots of option to chose from.

Kady L.

Yelp
OOMG they have nem nuong cuon!!! My absolute favorite. I had dine and take out. Both encounters were good. I am impressed with the packing they do! It was neatly prepared. They are definitely on top of their task. Everything is delicious! Finally some good asian food in Dallas!

Kaylah A.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I took a chance and came here to get some pho because our regular spot was about to close. Biggggg mistake! The only good thing I have to say is that the ambiance is nice, other than that the pho was unacceptably bland. We love pho so much and are known to finish our bowls every time but this was just not it!

Deja V.

Yelp
Come here for the excellent grilled fish so many times with family and friends but never had a chance to place a review . It's probably the best place in Dallas for grilled fish. People travel afar for their delicious cooking and their dipping sauces are the best also.

Lanie N.

Yelp
I am shocked that I never reviewed this place. I ate here several years ago. It was so good, I can still hear the crispy of the fish. This place is known for their fish. I don't have a pic of it. But It's a must. You can choose from sizes that fit your family and it's a eye catcher when the servers bring it out. It's good as is or to wrap with spring roll paper to eat. The dipping sauce, Mam nem is bomb. They have a huge menu with lots of options to choose from. The servers in the place are mostly men. Only lady I've seen there is boss lady and she stand behind the register. The servers are very attentive and they make sure you are taken care of. My kids love the grilled pork with the broken rice. I love the Bo Tai Chanh. It's so fresh and they load it w herbs. The pho is pretty good here too. Overall, we really enjoy the food and the service when we are here.

Loc T.

Yelp
Worst service from those waiter at lunch. Generally, Food is not so good At night service get better for dinner

Amy C.

Yelp
If you're ever craving catfish springrolls, this is the place to come. And it's definitely a place you want to come with a few people or a group. They provide everything needed to make your own springrolls from the wraps to noodles to veggies to the sauce! Usually when i go we'll order the medium or large catfish, and then the 3 meat set and leave more than full. We love coming here to satisfy our craving & not have to worry about the mess we would make it we were to do it at home - or the clean up, lol. I havent had the chance to try anything else out, but everything always looks delicious and this place is always steady so I'm sure you can't go wrong with anything else on the menu. They are also byob so if you're with a group of friends, bring some drinks and enjoy some good food!

Diana J.

Yelp
We got the fried catfish and it was perfect and comforting to eat. Tender and made great rice rolls with. The fish sauce wings were crispy but you need to dip it in fish sauce if you want to taste any fish sauce. The fried egg roll was okay. It was crispy but I didnt taste too much flavor.

Kalvin K.

Yelp
I came here for some pho even though it was 100 plus in Dallas. This place came recommended and I made the journey after landing from DFW. I would say the shining star here was the pho. The oxtail pho was excellent in flavor, but the oxtail itself seemed like it was previously cooked and refrigerated. The meat itself was cold in certain areas. The spring rolls were chewy and not very good. Viet coffee was decent but nothing to write home about. Food quality was a little above average. Service was adequate.

Danh N.

Yelp
The baked fish is so delicious. My brother managed to figure out how to make a similar tasty bake fish, but when we're to lazy to cook, we buy the baked fish form here which sadly happens a lot. We recently bought x2 large for $150+ for my niece graduation and quality hasn't degraded. I would definitely recommend this with spring rolls.

Kathy T.

Yelp
Easily some of the best Viet grub in Garland! Favorite dishes include baked catfish, 7 course beef, Thai hot pot, bo tai chanh, and Saigon 3 vi. This place is a good bang for your buck with generous servings at affordable prices. Also, BYOB so no complaints there. Service is a hit or miss, but that doesn't stop me from coming. It's a great place for a family or friends get together!

Lucie D.

Yelp
I typically come here for the ca nuong da gion (baked catfish). It is one of the best I have had. I also come for the bo la lot (beef wrapped in grape leaves). Both are always fantastic!! definitely come in a group so you can share both of these. I like how they give you good amount of rice paper and veggies, even if you order to go. They provide mam nem but I also asked for nuoc mam, which I prefer. The nuoc mam (fish sauce) chicken wings were not good. I would never order those again. They tasted burnt and had no flavor of nuoc mam on them at all. Minus half star for bad wings

Rebecca H.

Yelp
I have heard great things about this place. Been wanting to try it out for months. I'm so glad I finally made it over there. The food was so authentic and true Vietnamese cuisine. It was so much fun making my own spring rolls. We also ordered fried egg rolls, but that is not pictured. I did not care for the eggs rolls actually. But everything else was delightful. My favorite was the broth of the pho Saigon. Yum yum yum! The service was quick and friendly. I liked the atmosphere. I would drive all the way over there again just to have more of that delicious pho.

Haylee S.

Yelp
Came here with some friends who come here a lot and they got me to try the big baked fish! You wrap it with rice paper, noodles, and the toppings/vegetables and it's perfect for family style. It's a fun time making your own rolls, and it was great! Also, this place is BYOB for those interested. Overall, a good experience with good service & food.
