Saigon Hut - Review - East Boston - Boston - The Infatuation

"Saigon Hut is less of a hut and more of a dimly lit restaurant with a wall of mirrors that reminds you of that barre studio membership you’ve neglected for six months. But technicalities and the questionable interior aside, this is one of only two Vietnamese restaurants in East Boston. The menu is huge, but you should limit yourself to the grilled meat and noodles sections. The classics like phở and fresh spring rolls will satisfy a craving, but are otherwise unremarkable." - Joel Ang

Google
First time here. Not great when you go to take a bite of soup and have to pull out a foot long piece of hair out of your throat. Got the grilled chicken dinner with rice plate (2) and the chicken was pretty dry. We each got a soup as well and we all know how that went. 52 dollars for that. The place on Bennington has twice the amount of soup and the chicken has always been cooked perfectly for the riced plates the 100 times we have been there. Safe to say we won't be going back here.

Google
DELICIOUSLY PERFECT 🤩 The beef pho with grilled chicken delicious …. Grilled chicken rolls yummy could have used more meat… pork chop with rice and fried egg delicious as well…. Seating is limited but definitely an authentic pho flavor 😃

Google
Wowzers!!! This place was incredible! We got there 6 minutes after the doors opened, so we were the first customers of the day! Gee-willikers was this place the bomb diggity. I went with the V9. Pad Thai Tofu. Vegetarian friendly and DELICIOUS! Some of the best Pad Thai I have personally ever had! Definitely recommend getting that! MORK went with a steak Pho and had nothing but outstanding things to say about it. He finished it all too! Almost forgot about the amazing vegetarian dumplings we had. They were fried to a crispy crisp of perfection. He recommended we try the vegetarian spring rolls next time because of how much we like the dumplings! I hope to come back here next time us Rainbow Seekers are in town. Check out our latest single on Spotify!! ‘Spinning Out’ -Joe Hertler & the Rainbow Seekers!

Google
Everytime I’m having a sweet tooth I’m always ordering a smoothie which is delicious. I always order a pho through uber eats and never lets me down. I really recommend this place

Google
The chicken soup pho (#20?) was the best I've ever had!!

Google
Rice was horrible tasted like it was a month old, my drink was spoiled. Don’t waste your money on this place is not real Vietnamese food. I order pho and it only had two pieces of meat and a couple of noodles. Never going back. Also the smell in this place was horrible Disgusting!

Google
A nice neighborhood Vietnamese joint in East Boston. We tried the Chicken Curry and Pad Thai along with the Grilled Chicken Soup. The portions were good and so were the flavors. The service was quick.

Google
Grateful for delicious quick easy not fussy home-cooked pho in piping hot soup stock after long journey. Polite quick service at great prices also.

Yelp
The pick up service is pretty fast and efficient. The food is very good. I think they make some of the best spring rolls in the city! They are always fresh and tasty. I also enjoy their grilled pork chop plate and chicken/vegetable stir fries. Definitely worth a visit for quick and easy pick up orders.

Yelp
First time here after our flight from Minneapolis to Boston. Street parking only. Prices are a little higher than other places we've been to out of MN. Service was prompt. Very small dining area with 8-9 tables. Food was tasty. Dining area is clean.

Yelp
I get take out from here about once a month! The pho and spring rolls are always excellent and never disappoint. They're also super quick and always nice! Inside is nothing special it's definitely more of a take out place than dine in.

Yelp
Happy to stumble upon a tiny little pho place in East Boston. It definitely scratches the itch. For five stars they could have had Vietnamese iced tea and more sauces available like chili oil or fish sauce. Pho is good!
google avatar

Megan Y.

Yelp
Ordered through Uber eats, wouldn't say it totally satisfied my cravings but not terrible either. The spring roll sauce was a bit bland and the meat in the vermicelli bowl was more charred than I would have liked (more charred on the bottom) and the eggroll was ...not great. I will say the bun bo hue (not pictured) was pretty good! All in all, stick with the soups, not so much the vermicelli bowls.

Jeannine D.

Yelp
We ordered take out. Service was quick but here are my issues. Steamed dumplings were cold and rubbery. They were not soft but crunchy on the edges. The spring rolls were without any flavor and were mostly shredded iceberg lettuce. These too were incredibly bland. The Vietnamese crepe was disgusting and not cooked through. Even if it had been cooked properly what a complete ripoff! 2 small pieces of chicken and two shrimp cut in half. Yuk. Bun noodle bowl with grilled pork was decent but nothing extraordinary. "Fresh veggies" were beyond their expiration and brown/wilted. Totally disappointing and dissatisfying experience.

Yelp
Sunday late night dinner review: This place had a lot of potential it seems but so many things went wrong. Parking was extremely annoying to find, it was very hot inside because the AC seemed to not be running that much, nobody was there to seat us for awhile, we didn't receive chopsticks (cmon, we're asians coming to eat pho), we settled for water for our drinks and got kirkland water bottles that we had to pay $1.50 for LOL, our 12 dollar "small" pho bowls were probably one of the smallest I've even from. Other than that... pho was decent I guess? Wouldn't come back here again tho lol Food: 5/10 Vibes: 3/10 Service: 4/10 Value: 4/10

Gavin G.

Yelp
horrible customer service, very rude, boring atmosphere , prices are different from menu online.

Yelp
Disappointing. Came because of the good reviews and because I craved for a (vegetarian) pho soup. Place is small and cute, but occasionally there's some really bad smell in the restaurant. Waiter didn't give me water (and definitely not green tea lol), and I had to ask for the Basil + sprouts for the soup. I got sprouts only.. Soup was OK with have flavor of artificial soup, a lot of rice noodles, and a little bit of steamed veggies and fried tofu (both were made well). I'm still thirsty...

Yelp
Can I save the world? No. Can I support the only Vietnamese restaurant in East Boston? Yes. Food is solid, service was quick, what else do you want? Your eating Vietnamese food in East Boston, consider yourself lucky.

Yelp
Drinks: 4.5 stars If you're already in the area, don't hesitate to stop by for a vietnamese iced coffee, a smoothie with boba, or coconut juice. Food: 1 star (Saturday afternoon takeout) Cha Gio (fried egg rolls): I couldn't even take a bite of the egg rolls as they threw them directly into the takeout container from the fryer, melting the styrofoam on to them. While I can't speak to flavor, they were significantly narrower than I'm used to. When I broke one open, the inside was about half dough, so there's very little filling. Pho Ga (chicken pho): (if you can even call it that) It was in a broth that was probably just unaltered chicken broth from the local supermarket. Ga Chien Xa Ot (lemongrass chicken): the chicken was dry, flavor was lacking. Pork Banh Mi: the bread was wrong (was on generic hoagie roll, not a vietnamese baguette, so there was no crunch). It had pickled jalapenos(???) There were like five tiny pieces of carrot/daikon. It had soggy lettuce(???) There was no pate. Meat was solid. Was a sandwich, don't think this should be called banh mi.

Yelp
Had pho ga chicken soup It was gross Didn't taste like much but warm water with some after taste Chicken was mushy Tea was like warm Also had lo Meiji. Small portion, not too tasty Place was cold in March. Maybe they set temperature to 55. Even the waiter was wearing a thick jacket Had been coming here years ago was much better. Owners changed some years ago and it's been going downhill since. Yea used to be free and was pretty good. It's $2 now Only reason I came here was famished and was right down the street. Came out with nausea. Not coming back. Too bad it was a great place 20 years ago and great location. It's overpriced garbage unfortunately.

Yelp
Very good pho and huge portion! I got the shrimp pho and was a bit skeptical because the broth was so clear but it was super flavorful and the Shrimp was fresh. Unfortunately there was no Thai Basil and not enough jalapeño. The bag didn't include any silverware and I had asked for some with chili oil or sriracha, that wasn't included either.
google avatar

Oz E.

Yelp
Came in due to the good reviews but were disappointed. Although the place was clean and the staff was friendly the food fell short. Unfortunately the dishes fell short in both flavor and presentation and were not appetizing to the very least. I honestly wish I could rave about this place but it was a let down. I could not recommend it.

Yelp
This is probably one of the worst Vietnamese food around. If you want real Viet food then go to Dorchester. Pho soup base is slightly off. One time I ordered vermicelli with pork for pick up but just gave me a box of vermicelli. I had to go all the way back and complain to the owner. She was unapologetic and just blamed her cook. She did not offer anything to rectify the situation so I just asked for a refund.

Yelp
Overall: This ain't it, sis. Would not come back. Those who rated the food 5 stars must be Americans (no offense) or must not know what good viet food is. If you are looking to find a good place to try authentic viet food, DO NOT GO HERE. PLEASE GO TO ANY RESTAURANT IN DORCHESTER. That's where all the good AUTHENTIC Vietnamese food is at. You want good Pho? Try Pho Hoa/Pho Le/Pho So 1. Customer service : Waitress was not at all welcoming or inviting. Tried to get her attention twice but she didn't notice us. They also charged us fee for using credit card. Food: we ordered Pho Tai and Bun Rieu. The pho wasn't horrible. The broth tasted a little off. It wasn't good compared to the many Pho I had in my life. The bun rieu was sooooo plain. They didn't even offer shrimp paste (mam rouc). And the vermicelli noodle itself was all broken. Oh also, they are soooo cheap with the veggies. Nothing compared to what other pho places give you.

Yelp
I have tried New Saigon and it was decent so I wanted to try the original location (at least what I was told) The menu is on a table in the front so you look at it when you come in. Try to remember what you want to order later. No menus were given at the table or QR codes. Food: menu is in English only. Not in vietnamese and english. The menu is also quite small. Combination pho: was good. The broth was flavorful. What I expected in a good pho. Banh Mi: is not really your typical Vietnamese baguette. It's basically a small sandwich so honestly I don't think this should be listed under "banh mi". At 7.50 for this sandwich, it doesn't have pate spread in it either. You have the option of tofu, beef, chicken. Looking for typical cold cut? Not here. Overpriced for what it is. Taste wise? Eh. I wouldn't re order. Thai tea: 2$ and was what it was priced at. It was overly sweet. Ambiance: pretty dead. Small location with only a few tables. Good place for a quick pho if you are in the area and don't feel like travelling. Not a place to come with friends to hang out and chat. Overall would I come back? Yes for the pho if in the area and cravings hit. Probably not interested in trying other things.

Yelp
This place has the best pho. I ate here at least once a week when I lived in East Boston a few years back. I walked here in the rain from maverick station on my last day of vacation in Boston and it was so unbelievably worth it. Very rich in flavor, highly recommend!

Yelp
Food was amazing, service was excellent, & the ambiance was welcoming. The staff was outstanding!

Yelp
Had a long layover in the Boston airport. We decided to go somewhere nearby to eat. We saw this place and decided to try it out. We had the pad Thai and vermicelli noodle plates. The food was really good and the portions for the price was great as well.

Yelp
A nice neighborhood Vietnamese joint in East Boston. We tried the Chicken Curry and Pad Thai along with the Grilled Chicken Soup. The portions were good and so were the flavors. The service was quick.

Yelp
My parents were taking a flight out of Boston. For two weeks they were going to be without Vietnamese food so I told them I'd take them somewhere for Vietnamese before their trip. Yelp led me here. Our party of 4 all got something different. My dad got seafood crispy lo mein noodles, my mom got pho dac biet, my boyfriend got the pork vermicelli noodle bowl, and I got the beef rice place with sugarcane shrimp. We all agreed the food was eh but my mom's face lit up when she tasted the pho. I have never seen my mom this impressed by a bowl of pho before and immediately regretted not getting this. Though I wasn't impressed with my own order, I'm excited to come here again for the pho.
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
Good but not blown away--especially with the conditions of the place. I get that it's a small joint that's been in the neighborhood awhile, but when the ground is all torn up and I can see buckets covered with plastic wrap with rainwater dripping in it...I can't help but be wary. Had the fresh summer roll and a small dac biet. The summer roll was very fresh but was mostly lettuce. I used to love these but I feel like they're just a vehicle for delicious peanut sauce. The dac biet was flavorful and the plus side of Saigon Hut is that they give a ton of meat even in a small! The broth was so-so and the noodle texture was good! They forgot my mint and bean sprouts until I asked, not a big deal. But the lime they gave was tinyyyyy tiny like 1/16 of a lime. Overall, still on the search for good Vietnamese in the area without trekking to Dorchester.

Yelp
My dish was delicious, lemon grass chicken with vegetables, see the pic, was delicious and spicy. 5 stars for the food, 3 stars for the serving size, one of the smallest Vietnamese portions I've had over the years. (Probably the correct size, I'm just greedy and spoiled by generous portions given by places such as Pho Viet Brighton, Pho Basil in Boston and Le's in Cambridge) I ate my dish there and the food was priced about $1.50 higher than the menu stated, and I was over charged in sales tax (they rounded up by about .80 cents). They also had. Ridiculous minimum $20 for credit cards and even charges $1 fee if you used a "credit" card vs a debit card. Kind of weak to have these rules in 2018. I may sound stingy right about now, but I'm a stickler for this kind of stuff, so I personally won't be back, however with that being said, I do recommend. Reason being they looked very busy for take out, phone was ringing non stop, and I liked their interaction with customers who came in and out picking up their take out orders, the place appeared to have a lot of regulars.

Yelp
Very good Vietnamese food. I loved the fried egg rolls. My noodles were good as well. I should have asked for more of the sauce because it's to die for!!

Yelp
The food here remains tasty and delicious no matter how much changes Saigon Hut has gone through over the past 2 years since I started coming to this place!! Pho Seafood is always my go-to in this cold weather, and the Hot and sour soup with Tofu comes with white rice is awesome too! My friends had rice with tofu curry and flat rice noodle with tofu, which are delicious!!! I'll definitely come back again and again. Also I see some complaints in the review section about the fee for credit cards and minimum fee. As a customer for 2 years, I think we should respect their business or stop coming back if they don't satisfy the needs and wants of their customers. It's your choice. I am a happy customer and I have no problems with that :)

Yelp
Dear Saigon Hut, I have hesitated to write this review, but I hope you, the lovely owners, are taking note of what people are writing here so that things can improve & get back to the place I know & love. Saigon Hut used to be one of my favorite neighborhood spots, but the food has really suffered over the past year. I have ordered multiple times since Spring of 2020 despite the fact that the food was not right thinking maybe it was just a temporary effect of the pandemic or a one time thing. Sadly, I ordered again very recently & all of the flavors are still off. The pho broth was obviously flavored with something artificial (and not vegetarian as I ordered). My flat noodles were too sweet, the sauce was watery, and there were some other flaws in the cooking technique and flavorings as well. The food was edible, but definitely not as yummy & satisfying as it used to be. On top of that, I think your prices have gone up. The one positive thing I can say is that your veggies have always been fresh and remain that way. You have never cut corners with your produce which isn't something I can say about every restaurant in town. I really appreciate that. I hope you guys will find another chef as good as whoever cooked for you before. When you do, consider a holding grand reopening & I will be a regular again. I know the past year must have been very difficult for your business & my heart breaks to leave such a review. I really miss the way you guys used to be. Sincerely, Your Friendly Neighbor

Yelp
Review for pho and takeout. They are cash only under $10, delivery for orders over $15. Really excited to find a great and reasonably priced Vietnamese place in East Boston. The menu is pretty extensive and also includes some Thai options as well as boba. The interior is rather small - only a few tables - and gets reasonable crowded on weekend dinners. Their pho menu is pretty extensive with seafood, veg and chicken options. The beef pho ga listings comes with a wide variety of toppings and meat combos you can get (meatballs, brisket, etc). Broth is flavorful and almost thick, and they are generous with the meat and noodles as well. I usually get takeout, and they are pretty fast with the turnaround and good with the packaging (pho can be a difficult food for takeout). However, I have had a couple of issues with them forgetting extras like the bean sprout / basil package (nooooooooooooo!!!) or the little carton of sriracha and hoisin sauce, so a quick check before you leave the restaurant with your takeout might save you some anguish later. Overall, super solid Vietnamese joint and they definitely have a place on my takeout speed dial.

Yelp
Qualities of any great Vietnamese restaurant (imho) must have: Potted plants of varying shades of green and heights. check! Almost overpowering aroma of allspice, cardamom, star anise, and Saigon cinnamon. Check! Menu consisting of dishes broken up by type of noodle. Written in Vietnamese. Check! Vietnamese waiter/owner upon realizing you speak or at least comprehend basic Vietnamese when you order, and begins to spout out fluent Vietnamese at rapid fire pace. Check! Chef in the kitchen making all sorts of culinary noise. Check! Wait staff speaking loud Vietnamese. Check! Suffice it to say, being a long way from home in my new adopted city on the East Coast (West Coast is best coast...arguable...maybe...probably not) I've found a Vietnamese restaurant that reminds me of home, in the best possible ways! I'm writing this review after having been here twice now, the first occasion having had the bun thit nuong (grilled beef w/ dry vermicelli noodles and side of sweet fish sauce) and it was like I had never left Little Saigon of Orange County (note: Little Saigon is the largest community of Vietnamese immigrants, covering 3 cities. Rivaled by the community in San Jose, CA). My second and most recent time, I was craving bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and I must say, It is so close, it's almost imperceptible to being back at home. My lady ordered pho bo vien & tai (rice noodle soup w/ meatballs and rare steak) and spoke nothing but great things about it (her standards are quite high, as her father makes it all from scratch all the time...lucky!) Now, all cards on the table, I haven't been down to Dorchester, as I have invariably been told, but without having to schedule my day around the T, and being imperceptibly close to Downtown Boston (only a 15 minute T ride from State street!) Saigon Hut (or is it Saigon Restaurant? or is it East Saigon of Boston?) definitely fits the bill as being as close to the real thing as I can get to being back home. Still have not personally had the pho, but if I were to assume that they take care of their pho like their other smaller dishes, then I can't wait to go back and feel at home again!

Yelp
I thought it was all just fine. Ordering process was great the woman on the phone was very nice and repeated the order back to us. Something just tasted off about the vegetarian pho, like the broth wasn't actually vegetarian. Thought the flat rice noodles with chicken tasted fishy though the noodles themselves had a great texture. I think it was overpriced.

Yelp
We wanted Pho for dinner and Saigon Hut didn't disappoint. It's a small neighborhood joint and the owner was working the tables. She was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic as well - at the price you'd be hard pressed to beat it. If you're a Pho-natic, then you won't regret eating here. Also the lemonade? Amazing - freshly made to order. My wife had the Pad Thai and enjoyed that too although she said it was little spicier than she expected, but the atmosphere, friendly service and delicious other food more than made up for it.
google avatar

Darrin O.

Yelp
Delicious food poor service! Language barriers don't permit abrupt and rude treatment to guests. A small display of welcome goes a long way. You shouldn't act inconvenienced when people dine in or call in a take out.

Yelp
Pros: this is my first Boston restaurant and it was delicious comfort food! The broth was different from some of my other experiences but it was a good different! I got there usual pho with rare steak and it was a good quantity at the large (so I assume the extra large would be even better if you're hungry.) there are a lot of locals that come to this particular restaurant and they raved about the food and the familial spirit of the staff. More importantly, I had a strange incident where a big fly took a suicide dive street into my soup and died even before I got to eat one bite. The waiter saw what happened and without question took my ball away and gave me a new one free of charge. That my friend is good service! Cons: The place is pretty small so I can see it getting crowded fast but it was not an issue since I ate in the evening. Overall: I would highly recommend this spot for Vietnamese food if you are in the area. Cheers!

Steven Y.

Yelp
I was waiting for my family to arrive at Logan (which is only 5 mins away) and decided to get a bahn mi and some spring rolls while I waited. Pretty good but light on meat, didn't try the pho but will be back.

Yelp
This is a gem located in east Boston. I was searching for the best Pho in the area. After reading someone's comment that it was the closest to the food in vietnam, we headed over. The Pho was absolutely perfect in flavor. Everything was fresh and incredibly tasty. If you dig Pho, I highly recommend this cozy spot.

Yelp
The BEST place in Eastie for noodles! Not to mention their customer service is exceptional. Please order takeout or delivery directly through the restaurant, not a third party!

Yelp
i love these guys. husband and i come here all the time, and bring friends too. we're vegan, and the whole last page of the menu is nearly all vegan, so it's a blessing. it's a true family business, and the owners are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. we love saigon and their food!!

Yelp
I was so happy to see a Vietnamese restaurant when moving to this area recently- and Saigon Hut does not disappoint! I often order through Uber Eats and have always been satisfied. As a Vietnamese person this restaurant wins my approval. There are many options beyond pho that highlight our culture's food in a home-style and comforting way. The Vietnamese coffee is also a must! The pandemic has affected many small businesses so it's important to keep that in mind regarding reviews about changing prices/difficulties that the restaurant might encounter.
google avatar

Yelp
Great pho!! And decently priced. You can order up to an extra large for $10.95. This was the #24- round eye steak with their sate sauce. Nice and spicy!

Yelp
The food is wonderful !!! I called them 1 hour before I got to the restaurant to order the Lobster plate since I know they have to buy fresh lobsters and prepare them for us. My friends had Pho Dac Biet and White rice with grilled pork chop, which were awesome too! The service was kinda slow since the restaurant was crowded when we came, and there was just one waitress at that time. However, she was pleasant, and she did try her best to serve us well. We definitely will come back and we really enjoy our meal :)
google avatar

Laura K.

Yelp
Delicious Vietnamese food! We got the Vietnamese pancake appetizer which was amazing with a fish sauce dipping sauce, fresh shrimp and chicken mixed in, and topped with fresh green basil and mint. Then my friend got the pho and I got curry noodle soup and both were delicious! The waitress took the time to explain the different add-ins to us and how to eat our soups, and she seemed genuinely interested in making sure we enjoyed our meals! We forgot to mix in our bean sprouts and she came back and chided us for our oversight - and she was right! They also had bubble teas on the menu which we meant to get on our way out, but we were too stuffed and had to pass - we'll have to come back!
google avatar

Angela W.

Yelp
Pros - Nice friendly and fast service, family run business. Cozy ambience (good for friends and dates) Cons - In general the soup base for pho is on the salty side Watch out for little white bugs on basil leaves especially the back of the leaves

Yelp
I heard great things about Saigon hut so it was time to pay it a visit. I arrived for a casual Sunday night meal. We were greeted by a young woman who came over to take our order. The tea brought over to table was soothing and we drank it through out meal. So we decided to start with the Goi Cuon (fresh spring rolls, a mix of lettuce, fresh mint, cucumber, rice vermicelli, shredded chicken and shrimp) and the Beef Terryaki. The rolls were outstanding! 2 plump freshly made rolls arrived packed with flavor. A dip in the peanut sauce and wow. Definitely a must try! The beef terryaki was also great. This is not your typical Asian beef on a stick but a tasty grilled version with peanuts and flavor. For my entree I decided to be traditional and go with the Pho Ga noodle soup (check out the posted picture). It arrived in an extra large bowl packed with tons of veggies and noodles. The best soup ever and definitely a filling meal! Next time I'll request a small size cause I had so much left over. My boyfriend got the Vietnamese crepe with shrimp and pork. It came out enormous loaded with veggies, he thought it could of used more meat but overall liked it. Service was a little slow. The server was having her meal with her family when we got in and finishing it through our meal. Not a big deal cause we didn't need much. Decor was typical for a small place with mirrors along the wall and red walls all over. Don't go if your looking for ambiance! The prices are the best part. Dinner for 2 with 2 appetizers only $27! I can't wait to go back and try more. The list of specials is interesting with even choices like pad thai on it!

Yelp
The hostess and the waitress all the time were seating chatting when they have dirty table and sime customers to take care

Yelp
With everything going on, Asian food is in short supply but high demand. One night I couldn't take it any longer and went on a hunt for some pho and found Saigon Hut. We ordered Shredded Chicken Pho, Spring Rolls, and A vegetable flat noodle and were given a vegetarian pho with tofu instead, which was very disappointing. The chicken pho had a very flavorful broth and plenty of vegetables inside. However the vegetarian pho which again, we didn't order...had pieces of fried, soggy tofu which weren't appetizing at all. I took them out and just ate the vegetables which were plentiful. The broth was tasty but the tofu wasn't good at all. The sauce that came with our little take out bags was a mix of hoisin and sriracha which was great considering we couldn't make our own mix in the restaurant. Lastly the spring rolls...I expect a good mix of vermicelli noodles, spring, some cabbage and maybe some Thai basil or mint, and instead it was a thinly sliced piece of shrimp, a little lump of noodles and the rest was cabbage. I know restaurants are struggling right now so I can cut them some slack. If we decide to order again I hope they get it correct next time. Overall not a bad place if you're craving some Vietnamese phood.

Yelp
I joined Yelp only so I could spread the word about this restaurant in my 'hood. This place was run into the ground by the old mgmt: weird hours, mean waiters, & inconsistent food. The new owner is FANTASTIC and will do whatever it takes to assure you receive a meal you're happy with. Unfortunately, things aren't perfect here...yet. It's only been a few months, they're still working out some kinks. Here are some tips that might help on your first visit: (Q) Menu isn't descriptive--what am I ordering? (or) I'm used to ordering [insert common Vietnamese specialty here] but i don't see that listed...what's up? (A) Ask the chef! Don't ask the waitresses-they don't know the menu as well as they chef/owner. Besides--the chef loves to come out and talk about the menu, so don't be shy! This will ensure you get what you want or something you'll like. (Q) It doesn't seem very authentic--is this really Vietnamese? (A) The menu boasts Vietnamese and Chinese dishes, and also a few Thai favorites so it's more accessible for those unfamiliar w/ Vietnamese food. The owner/chef is Vietnamese, and his specialties are listed on colored paper on the mirrored wall. Yum! (Q) What about the reviewer who mentioned she wouldn't come alone, and wouldn't bring her children again? (A) If you are afraid of anyone who isn't white, I suppose you might be scared in this perfectly safe neighborhood. This part of East Boston is almost all Hispanic families. Personally, I feel safer here than I did in Allston among drunk white college kids. (Q) Why isn't there any dessert? (A) OK, I just threw this in because I have a super sweet tooth... It may sound strange, but trust me when I say TRY A GREEN or RED BEAN SHAKE!! It's made with sweetened condensed milk and coconut milk--very sweet and different. you won't be disappointed. Happy Eating.

Yelp
Perfect hidden gem in East Boston. I'm obsessed with pho and after going to a few places in Chinatown I think this place is in the top of my choices. We ordered the shrimp and cabbage which was huge and can be split between 4 people. It's like and refreshing. Bug pieces of shrimp sliced in half, sliced cabbage, mint in a light fish dressing topped with peanuts. I ordered the large veggie pho with crispy tofu. Small portion would of been perfect. The broth was tasty and they definitely put in a healthy amount of veggies and rice noodles. The place is small but has the look and feel like a place in Chinatown. I'm excited to check out the other food options they have. There were 3 other tables there who ordered veggie and noodle stir fry's and they looked and smelled great. If you like pho and want some quality food for cheap definitely check out this place. You won't be disappointed.
