The Best Restaurants on St. Simons Island and Brunswick in Georgia | Eater Atlanta

"Some days just call for a comforting bowl of pho. Island Pho is a family-owned restaurant serving Vietnamese fare, including bowls of chicken or beef flank pho, spring rolls, lemongrass chicken, and shaking beef. Order brown sugar bubble tea or refreshing strawberry fruit tea before heading back out into the sun." - Eater Staff

Google
All the food was very delicious at this little hole in the wall spot. I had the charbroiled pork chop with rice and sweet chili sauce, my boyfriend had the beef pho. So flavorful. It does take a while for your food to come out, so be patient there's only one hardworking guy doing it all, but he makes amazing food so it's worth the wait! We spent about 35$ for the both of us.

Google
Special noodle soup was delicious. Also the shrimp/ port chop fried rice is a must try. Waited a bit longer during busy hour due to limited staffing.

Google
The food was fantastic! Very authentic and fresh ingredients. The food is worth the wait. That being said I did feel the restaurant could have been a bit more clean. However, it is clear that this restaurant is being ran with very minimal staff and they are doing the best they can. For the food to come out so amazing with only two people working a busy dinner rush says a lot about their standard and passion for the food they are putting out. The service is on the slower side, but again the pho was delicious and the egg rolls were very yummy. Would definitely go back again!

Google
Great, authentic Vietnamese restaurant! The owner said he has been in this location for the past 30 years, and I can see why! He definitely works his butt off and is passionate about his food. He is so passionate, that he also was our waiter AND the chef! After he took our orders, he went back into the kitchen and made the food himself. He is an extremely hard worker who deserves local support. Not to mention, the food was fantastic. It tasted very fresh, and I will definitely be returning to try more of their dishes. He also offered us free water bottles before we left! He was an extremely nice man, and very hospitable.

Google
Absolutely fantastic Vietnamese spot, 15.99 for a large bowl? In today's economy? Also I simply can not recommend the fried spring rolls enough, 6 bucks for 2 roll might be too expensive at first glance, but the flavor is 100% worth it.

Google
First time in Brunswick, The pho was ok, really oily, the broth didn't have much flavor to it. The fried rice paper spring roll was really good, it reminded me of vietnamese street food. The owner was very welcoming and chill. If I visit brunswick again, will definitely come and try different items on the menu

Google
We love Vietnamese food ,this place was random stop in Georgia . Fresh spring rolls were amazing we loved that they mixed shrimp and pork inside . Pho was good 👍 ,I didn’t like meat that much and kind of I missed more vegetables and greens inside ,but broth itself was awesome .My husband had a special rice and it was very very delicious. Host was nice and very pleasant. Prices reasonable.

Google
We were staying at a hotel in Brunswick after visiting Jekyll Island and looking for a place to eat. We love Vietnamese food so we took a chance on this place. Let me tell you about the experience. First off, I've eaten Vietnamese food all over the US, from San Francisco, Dallas, Tampa, Washington DC, NYC, and Boston, and I can honestly say the small place in Brunswick beats them all. I'm not exaggerating. This food is made with care and pride. You have to be patient. There's one guy running the place and cooking so don't expect to get your food in 5 minutes. I think we waited for about 10 minutes before he brought out the shrimp egg rolls and then at least 10 minutes after when he brought us our Bun. But it was worth the wait. Flavors were very balanced and portions were large without being grotesque. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious. Do yourself a favor and go to this place. I'm sure everything he makes is awesome.

Yelp
This spot has amazing pho with great broth and the banh mi is next-level, that's usually the sign they actually care about doing both sides of the menu right. A lot of places nail one or the other, but when they hit: * Deep, clear, rich broth (not salty, not oily) * Fresh herbs + crisp bean sprouts * Properly pickled veggies * Crusty baguette with a soft interior * Well-seasoned meat ...that's a top-tier Vietnamese shop.

Ershad Z.

Yelp
A very local joint. No bells and whistles, but the food was very good. A few local Asian Vietnamese customers, so you know it is good. We had a fried spring roll, meatball pho and seafood pho.
google avatar

Maitreya M.

Yelp
Not so great experience, everything is just so so, not great, not bad, in average. The soup is kinda blank, not so tasty, won't be back!

Alfonso N.

Yelp
Best in town , great food. Great customer service. Communications is tough because language barrier. But they do their best.
google avatar

Shericia R.

Yelp
The first time I visited, I only tried the egg rolls. The next time I visited, I had the spicy chicken pho and egg rolls to go. I didn't realize they didn't take Apple Pay, so I had to leave and get cash. Be sure to come ready with cash or card. You will have a wait, as all of the food is cooked to order. If you're in a time crunch, call ahead. The business is typically a 1-2 man show. The owner is typically cooking, serving and cashing you out. It is well worth the wait

Yelp
As good as it gets, totally legit. I wish we had food this good where we live. The owner is such a great dude, too. Just the perfect Vietnamese restaurant.

Tony V.

Yelp
As someone who truly appreciates a good bowl of pho, I have to say, Pho Saigon in Brunswick, GA, is an absolute gem! Stepping inside, I immediately felt that familiar, comforting aroma of simmering broth, as you drool inside your mouth walking through the door. The pho here is fantastic, with a broth that's rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. It truly reminds me of the pho I've grown to love in my own area of town - that deep, savory flavor with just the right hint of star anise and cinnamon, and noodles that are always cooked to perfection. Whether it's the tender rare steak, the flavorful brisket, or the perfectly textured meatballs, every component comes together to create a bowl of pho that feels both authentic and incredibly satisfying. If you're a trooper that is in for spicy food, you have to try the N6. Bún Bò Huế - Spicy Noodle Soup. I typically get that with the regular Pho noodles in lieu of the round egg noodles. It's such a pleasant surprise to find a spot that delivers on that familiar, soul-warming pho experience so far from home. Pho Saigon has definitely earned a top spot on my list of go-to places when I'm craving a taste of home, even when I'm miles away!

David G.

Yelp
The food, the service and ambiance here is always amazing. The owners work hard and keep the food tasting great every time I come in.
google avatar

Kal K.

Yelp
According to reviews I had good expectations. I've had some of the best Pho on the West coast and was craving it. Went to this place and was severely disappointed. The Pho itself was made with subpar, greasy broth. But... the main issue was the meat. Traditional Pho Taí , or Pho Bo is made with thin strips of rare brisket. I was served a bowl with brown brisket which had a rainbow glaze all over the meat. The meat tasted off. In all my years of eating Pho I have never been served meat with a green rainbow glaze. The meat looked bad. At payment, i showed the owner the meat and informed him i could not eat bad meat. He proceeded to get angry and show me his meat from the back. It was a piece of dried brisket which was brown and aged. It was no wonder it developed a rainbow glaze. This was nowhere near fresh rare brisket. I will not be going back to this place, and I would caution others as well.

Yelp
So glad to have found this restaurant! Excellent Pho and Bun and the egg rolls are great too. Highly recommend. Definitely not fancy but very authentic Vietnamese food and flavors. You won't be sorry!

Yelp
We try to not go too much because we want it to be our special treat. We love the rich Phos and the yummy sandwich and shrimp egg roll. It's one of the few places we look forward to going. The owner is so friendly and nice, always treats us so well. We always take some home.

Lori B.

Yelp
Understand this, owner prepares all of the food himself. You will probably wait a bit. Do not go if you are in a hurry. Go because his food is delicious and worth the wait. I have been going for years. I do not care how long he takes. Most people who are regulars say the same thing. The best Pho ever.
google avatar

Claudia A.

Yelp
Craving pho and we stopped for a bite to eat. The man here does it all! Please be patient it was good and served plenty:)
google avatar

Phil M.

Yelp
Reminds me of typical dining in SE Asia....what that means is free table (claim it), sauces/napkins/chopsticks/spoons in a bucket at the table, and you call for waiter/order. I loved it. Pho was really rich (not a bad thing at all). Spring rolls were ginormous and tasty. Special Pho has tripe rather than tendon so be prepared...but it was cooked really well. I only wish they had basil on the veggie tray that comes with all Pho orders. **Note: portions are "southern sized" which means a medium is bigger than a large and a small is a medium if you're from anywhere else in the country. I add that only to help customers understand price vs portion size. Trust me it's a great deal**
google avatar

Addi P.

Yelp
Got three orders (six pieces total) of their shrimp and pork summer rolls and you can tell that it was made fresh and tastes so good!!!! The basil and cilantro leaves are so fresh and a little bit on the healthy side too, I highly recommend. Will try again and again!

T G.

Yelp
We got the spring rolls and steak pho. Delicious and well priced. Will return when traveling this way again. Definitely a nice mom and pop vibe. Clean and all made from scratch so there is a bit of a wait but worth it. Lovely calming music
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
This place is not clean at all . Greasy tables , restrooms are past all this inventory for another business . Pho didn't taste genuine it tasted as if it were made from a powdered stock base . Service was not great and it was very hot inside .
google avatar

Tanni D.

Yelp
Holy crap, this place is amazing. They give you free water bottles. If you're a tourist in the area, then you know what a blessing this is since most restaurants there (and the Golden Isles) provide tap water that tastes like sewage. The Pho Dac Biet was - hands down - the best pho I've ever had. The broth had a rich and deep flavor. We also ordered the Bun Ga Nuong Xa. The chicken in it was a bit too hard, but the vermicelli was cooked to perfection and the dish had a wonderful lemongrass flavor. Best of all, the owner/chef is such a sweet man. While the wait may be long, you won't be disappointed at this hole-in-the-wall.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
The food was some of the best Vermicelli I have ever had. Service was friendly, efficient, and reliable.
google avatar

Autumn K.

Yelp
Hole in the wall place, but the food is incredible. I really love their fried spring roll! It's the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
This spot is THE REAL deal. My first two visits were egg rolls and spring rolls and a beef dish because they were sold out of everything else. I finally called early enough on trip 3 (all within 2 weeks) to order the pork chop. I have come back multiple times just for the egg roll. It's got a long large piece of shrimp in the middle of it and it is perfection! Don't let the owner's broken English deter you. He couldn't be more kind and appreciative. I looked up and learned how to say hello (sin chow) and thank you (koh'mm awn) because I wanted to express my appreciation. Their pho (fuh) is excellent and this spot is a local treasure.
google avatar

Doug B.

Yelp
Local place off the highway (a few lights) in a strip mall. So, decour isn't amazing and the gentleman working was both cook and waiter. He was working hard. Quite a nice fellow. I had the Beef dish (R3) served with rice or Com Chien Bo Luc Lac. The seasoning on the beef was tasty and I was surprised with the fresh vegetables. It was a very solid 3 (3+?) stars. If you are hungry for something different off exit 38, give it a try.
google avatar

D L.

Yelp
This was a tough review to write. Came in for lunch, place is bright and somewhat well kept. I ordered the pho and asked about the vegetables that come with it and the lady did not speak much English, so I just accepted it for what it was. Then my pho came, and it had no vegetables with it. No Thai basil, no bean sprouts, no jalapeño slices, no lime, nothing. I found the gentleman behind the counter and asked him the same and he acted like vegetables on top of pho was not a thing. I asked again about the vegetable plate, I got a shrug from him. Long story short, you don't get vegetables with your pho here. That's enough reason for me not to come back, unfortunately. It is close to work, and the broth was excellent. But I come for every now and then to clear out my sinuses, stuff some vegetables down my throat, etc., etc. Again, if you're the person who doesn't eat the vegetables, then this place is probably going to be pretty good for you. For me, it was a disappointment.
google avatar

Danny M.

Yelp
Incredible food. This evening my wife and I had a date night, and we'd never had Vietnamese food before. While it was a first for us both, it won't be the last time we come back! I can't imagine anyone doing a better job, Everything was delicious and fresh. We can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Keith F.

Yelp
I wanted my 900th review to be to a place that I really enjoyed and this restaurant is it! This small strip mall restaurant is definitely worth a visit. I ordered a seafood soup and the goi con with no pork. The soup was amazing! It had a rich deep flavor with plenty of seafood and perfectly cooked. It came with cilantro, jalepeno peppers and lime. I would have loved some bean sprouts. They also have a spicy homemade paste on the table that is so delicious and potent! The goi con was made fresh. Even though they were ordered as an appetizer they came out after the soup did. They were solid and I would order both dishes again. The price was right for what you get. If you are in a hurry dont go here. If you have the time for a delcious dinner add this spot. Service was reliable.

Ashley A.

Yelp
Love this place . I mainly stick to getting the rare steak pho and A2 egg roll but the fried rice is another contender on my list. Customer service is exceptional as well.
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
I wasn't really impressed with this place. The pho was okay. Nothing to write home about. If someone was paying for me to eat here I'd go but I wouldn't spend my money on it.
google avatar

Ma-ligaya B.

Yelp
My daughter and I came here for the first time. The place was small we went it was 85 deg so I didn't think it would busy. There were one large party and that was it. Only one person was working he was doing everything. He was cooking, serving, cashiering. He was a nice friendly guy. We order Pho soup, beef w/rice and appetizer fried spring roll. I never had this kind of spring roll it was so good. 2 for $5.00 after we had it man we wanted more but we didn't after the food we were full. I had the thin beef pho, my daughter had the beef and rice. All was really good my only problem was there was no side veg to put on the pho. So that was disappointing he said that bean sprout was not good today come back tomorrow.

Nicholas H.

Yelp
Love this place, owner is super nice and hilarious. Kind of a hole in the wall but food is great.
google avatar

Dominic E.

Yelp
I came here one night while visiting Jekyll Island (wanted to see the other local area and have some food with flavor and seasoning) and I am so glad I did! This is a small restaurant at the end of a small strip and can easily be missed. I ordered an order of guo cuon and the spicy noodle soup. The guo cuon contained fresh and pickled vegetables and was full of fresh, bright flavors. The SPICY NOODLE SOUP! OMG! This was the flavor bomb I was looking for. Bright, flavorful, thangy, spicy...the perfect mix of every flavor I want! I can't say enough good things about this soup! I will say, the wait between the guo cuon and the spicy noodle soup was a bit long, but the freshness and flavor made my wait worth it.

Yelp
personally, i LOVE this pho.. the owner does his best and it really shows. the food is delicious. sadly, the servers don't pay you much attention though so you have to be REALLY patient. the food is worth it though

Evelyn Thanh D.

Yelp
This place doing racist to same culture as an Asian. This restaurant being nasty and curse and yell at me as an Asian. First, when I got in store he did some nasty action and asking me am I a Vietnamese? I wonder why he asked. He is still việtnamese. When I order food together with my friend. He keep being nasty. I and my friend paid and about to leave. Then I wanted to get sauce. When i asked him he yell and being aggressive to me. What he said is that he hating an Asian and does not want to sell food for me. I said if you don't want to sell, then tell me in the beginning so I would get out. So he keeping being aggressive so I returned food and wanted my money back. He said no and start a fighting and verbal abuse. Then my friend called police came over to solve the problem. This is the owner problem. This country is not allowed for racism and no matter color you are. You need to be treated in the right way. If the restaurant does not want to sell food for aiSan or any color of your skin then put notice in the front door. So people won't come. Don't let people come in to buy and take their money then curse and racism on people. What I am saying here that people racist each other even they do not know where they come from. Same color same skin but different is their own a stupid mind. They think they racism same color will make them same side with other of color or they will prove they are different/stand out. Think about it! This is bad experience I got in the Sai gon Pho @ GA Their food look not good if compare with others. Do not come to this place and get bad service not even a good place to eat. I know people do not care bcuz that is not their business. But I have to let people know so people in other state won't come in this restaurant to get bad experience like i did
google avatar

Thuanlinh D.

Yelp
This place doesn't feel like much. However the pho we had was so good. Like other reviews, the owner appeared unfriendly. I talked to him for a bit and I think the language barrier can come across that way. Also, he is not so motivated to keep making food near closing hours. The waitress Amber was probably the most genuinely friendly server I ever had. I left a decent tip but sadly she told me owner won't let her keep it. I hope he will make an exception. Ông chủ nhà hàng phá lệ nhớ cho cô Amber hết phần tip này.
google avatar

Simon L.

Yelp
Didn't expect this in brunswick, but it was Great vietnamese food, friendly staff, and good overall pho restaurant! If you enjoy spicy food, you must try their chili oil sauce! I find my self over doing it with the chili oil sauce whenever I'm here and leaving in tears (in a good way)

Anna S.

Yelp
Pho soup is good, BUT this place has very poor hygiene, the tables were dirty, the waitress was very ignorant. The place is dirty and unpleasant.
google avatar

Thea K.

Yelp
If you want made from scratch, made to order authentic Vietnamese food, look no further! The pho broth is Rich and flavorful. Watch out for the spicy soup! It will take your breath away and you will sweat through you eyeballs. Sunny is am amazing cook and bakes his own bread for the Bahn Mi....

Jen T.

Yelp
Delicious- best pho I've found in coastal Georgia! Be sure to get the rare steak and add all the herbs and veggies.
google avatar

Heidi A.

Yelp
This place was awesome! Visited Brunswick for 2 weeks and so happy i ventured into this little shop. It's a one man show doing everything- answering phone & taking orders, seating guests, and obviously doing the cooking. The vermicelli noodles I ordered were so perfect! Delicious flavor, crunch, and freshness. Highly recommend you support this small business
google avatar

Natalie R.

Yelp
BEST Pho I've had in quite some time. Brunswick, GA's got it going onnnn-who knew? Will be stopping here whenever we're passing through off 95! Broth Flav-10 Temp- 10 Noods-10 and plenty of em Tai (rare beef)- 10 and plenty Onion, sprouts, cilantro, jalapeño, basil- 10 freshhh Bahn Mi with pork 3/5- flavor was off for me, def trying the chicken though next time Bun Thit Nuong-- 10 This dish honestly floored us. Just get it. At least once. Umami all over the place. Super sweet husband and wife team (go team go!!), very hospitable, and handled 4 tables including us nicely. See ya next time we're heading to FL!
google avatar

Judith G.

Yelp
Place is super clean with a fresh air. Owners are very attentive and food comes out quick. Soup was delicious and sprouts were very fresh. Rolls were to die for! % recommended!
google avatar

Duy M.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. First of all we ordered Pho,BBH and com tam suon bi cha. It took almost an hour for us to get our food. When we got our food they used the wrong noodle for the BBH. Then they gave me a plate of just rice and 2 pork chops. When we asked where the rest of the stuff was the owner got defensive and started cussing at us. We decided not to eat but to still pay for the waters that we did order. Order started cussing at us in Vietnamese and tried to fight me. Would not recommend
google avatar

Mai N.

Yelp
Yessss! Finally found a good pho place in these neck of the woods. Beef pho with delicious bone broth. Reminds me of the Bay Area! YummO
google avatar

Jordan N.

Yelp
When the Pho is actually made by a Vietnamese person is there ever a bad time for it? Pho is apart of my life so when I travel I need to try it from everywhere and everyone. Pho Saigon has done it right and it's consecutive! Never failed me!
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Chef Son turned me on to Vietnamese food at his old restaurant- but his new place should be much better for him. Glad to see such a quality place in Brunswick. Tonight I had the Spicy Beef Pho - it was fantastic! At first I thought it was going to be too spicy, but I kept craving more. When I finally finished it, my belly was quite happy and my sinuses are drained! Definitely going back for more.

Chelsea C.

Yelp
The food is absolutely outstanding!!! The egg rolls are to die for! The owner is very sweet and always recognizes us when we come!
google avatar

Nangkhongmany H.

Yelp
Sweet people Yummmy food Could never go wrong Chef makes awesome food very authentic

Jcort N.

Yelp
I have to say that I totally underestimated this place, but once I tried it I was very happy I did. The Fried Egg Rolls are great they remind me of one of my favorite restaurants from San Antonio, TX. The House Special Fried rice is also great and a must try! The Spicy Beef Soup is a sure pick as well, very flavorful and has just the right amount of spice to it. The only con if any would be that their isn't any free refills for the drinks. All in all I would definitely recommend anyone to stop by and try out their food.
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
Delicious Pho. Both seafood and special. And cold egg rollWonderful service. Wish they were in Arizona as we would come all the time!

Yelp
Best ban mi ever had. Wonderful pho. Prepared to order but worth the wait. Highly recommend.
