Yelp
Cheap, gargantuan portions, tasty, no-fuss-straightforward service, different demographics present...exactly my kind of restaurant. As I'm still slowly making my rounds through my endless list of MA restaurants, I would not have visited this place so soon if it wasn't for a fellow local foodie that recommended this place for their hotpot and traditional Vietnamese style pork dishes. She's definitely spot on with this recommendation; however, she forgot to mention the generous portion sizes.
First visit, I looked through their extensive menu and thought it was interesting that while they had just about *EVERYTHING* possible (including Chinese and Cajun-style dishes), they didn't serve *PHO*. Not an issue; I just found it curious since that has always been a mainstay in about every Vietnamese restaurant I've visited over the last few decades. I also noticed that the prices were leaning relatively on the cheap side, which led me to have wrong assumptions with their portion sizes (*NOT* small...at...all).
It really is stereotypical of an Asian restaurant to sell large amounts of food at lower than median prices. Usually, the crapshoot is how good the food is. It could be a lot of cheap crap. OR it could be a lot of cheap but okay-won't-write-to-grandma stuff. OR it could be really cheap AND good and worth visiting and telling just about every foodie in your book about, which is what Saigon Seafood is. For what I've ordered so far, the taste and the portions were GREAT. Pork chop had really good traditional flavor, seafood was fresh, and the goat was tender, gamy, and awesome. I seriously can't wait to try more of their other dishes despite being so stuck on the goat hotpot.
Definitely recommend their hotpot options even more during this time of the year!
