The Best Restaurants in Oakland, Berkeley, and the East Bay | Eater SF

"Nestled into a lesser-known part of Richmond, Sailing Goat packs the one-two punch of a gorgeous view of the bay and a solid menu consisting of dockside classics like fish and chips, plus unconventional pizzas such as a lamb shawarma pie. This is such a funky, kitschy little area. It's hard to get to on some seriously windy, narrow roads, but there are some spectacular views of the San Pablo Bay along the way. Once you descend into the harbor, you pass goat crossings and actual goats and then the road opens up into this weirdly adorable little marina with stunning views of the water, hills, and also of the dock, artsy homes, and random art installations. The food at the restaurant is pretty good but a bit too pricey. The menu is also VERY limited. However, the staff are amazing, and the vibe and views really can't be beat. To top it all off they have live music almost every night so, overall, this place is more than worth it, even if just for the novelty!!

My family and I enjoyed lunch at Sailing Goat. This is a very popular place so had a bit of a wait but worth it. Their fish and chips are the best. The whole area is interesting with a casual feel: the goats, Burning Man Installations, houseboats, very interesting shoreline, live music, dog and child friendly. My grandson had fun enjoying the very old work out bike and moto. Even the drive there is amazingly scenic. Best of all their food is worth the wait.Suggest. Fish and chips.

Gluten free fish and chips were fab. Servers and staff very nice. Had a lemon Gluten Free dessert that was very good. Gluten Free Beer from Otherwise... Loved it. Nice view of the water too. Very out of the way place...so worth it.

Sailing Goat Restaurant is one of those hidden gems that "probably" most locals know about and only outsiders like myself et el discover through television show recognitions. I saw this in a television show maybe a couple years ago and always wanted to go but the stars never aligned until today, June 15th, 2025, Fathers Day, when my wife independently sought this restaurant out and asked my son and me to go. So we made short drive from the East Bay westward to the last exit on Interstate 580 before entering the Richmond Bridge where there would be no turning back without a toll charge......so be careful, if you miss that 7A/Stenmark Drive turnoff, you're ^*%*##*! .....$8.00 toll bill as of this date, but more importantly, lost time and position in line at the restaurant! .....now cut to the chase, it was Fathersday understandably, and though we arrived at around 11:02am (the restaurant opens at 11:00am on this day), there already a light almost to the parking lot as shown in one of my photos. But that didn't discourage us, the line started moving, we were sure we would get a table.......wrong! We end up about 12 parties from the last seat, and you know what the last seat means, we would have to wait another 1 to 1-1/2 hours for any table to open up when the first cluster of people finish their meals and leave......and we were about 12 parties behind the last of the first cluster of people......but I digress and we persisted. Again, keep in mind this was a Fathersday crowd too, YMMV. We were finally sat about 10' from the live band which I thought was a little too loud at our distance but manageable. The waiter was a young kid...come to think of it, the entire staff looked pretty young......but probably because I'm pretty old! LOL! The entire staff was very cordial and respectful. I got the Seafood Stew and an IPA beer. My wife got some sort of salad and a Pilfner beer, and my son got the fish and chips with a cider which turned to out to be alcoholic and that he didn't realize. We also got a chickpea/garbonzo bean fries appetizer which came with a dip and they were very good. I'll only review my Seafood Stew here since I didn't taste my wife's salad nor my son's fish and chips, though the fish and chips looked mighty tasty and abundant. Fwiw, I would have tried my son's fish and chips, but he gobbled it up like he's been eating college dorm food for the past year......and he has! LOL! .....but I digress again as I tend to do in my old age, LOL. Anyhow, back to the Seafood Stew. The "stew" was not so much a stew as it was a cioppino "soup", very watery, not like a stew at all which has a much thicker stock. That aside, the taste was pleasant without being overpowering. But none of that matters since all that stuck in my mind is the smallness of any of the individual ingredients. The shrimps were just a little larger than popcorn shrimps, the mussels were at least half the size I am used to, and the fish was frugal. Even the potatoes where less than 3/4" cubes! ! Think the 1989 movie "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" starring Rick Moranis and others, and you get the exaggerated version of this soupy Cioppino made for those shrunken kids. Come on, Mr. hip Bohemian Sailing Goat by the bay, up your game and bring it to the next level. I know times are tough with the tarrifs and the economy, and you have to balance the quality and substance of your offerings with staying alive, but hopefully you can find that middle ground that shows who you can be, and who you can be is a bay area destination where there is a lot of nothing in the area except for your worthy food that can't be experienced anywhere else. I give you a 5 for your staff and their cordiality and the lively atmosphere, maybe a 3 for the seafood stew, and I'll still give you the benefit of the doubt that you will be the little engine that could, and give you a 4 overall.

Google
One of the messiest restaurants I've ever been to. 10-15 min just to put our names on the list, 20 min to get a table ready when several were available but not cleaned yet. We've not seen our waiter after the order. Had to wait in line 5-10 more min to pay since nobody would come. The same happened for the tables next to us. Food was okay. The place is nice and atypical, could be a great place.

Google
An absolute hidden gem! I started looking on the map for a restaurant with a good view and not only did we get a nice view, but we also had a little mini adventure drive to get to the location. You have maybe 3 minutes of twist and turn driving, but the way you pop out to the harbor is just pure eye candy. The food was nothing short of delicious, they have a very intentionally small, seasonal menu, but rest assured that everything is great. We had the Brandade as an appetizer and it was very well done. The waiter was nice enough to give us some extra bread for the clam chowder, and the fish and chips were divine! The service was all very quick and efficient. I don’t think they have a restroom, but I did spot a porta potty across from the seating area. Oh the seating is all outside, I didn’t expect that but it was fine as they had the portable heaters. I would love to come here in the summer when it’s hot inland!

Due to the popularity of the band, Shipwrecked Shanty, it took us about an hour and 15 minutes to get a table, but it was sooo worth it!! Incredible music, incredible food, and incredible service!!! Please bring back the band!!!

Google
Great vibe and location. We’ve been here dozens of times, felt like i owed them a review. Food - High quality, expertly prepared. The menu changes a bit here and there but fish and chips are always a banger. Right now the watermelon salad is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten there. I do miss the pizzas. We used to go way more when they had the pizzas going. Bev - Good variety of local beer, etc. It’s what you would expect. Service - Great! A real family atmosphere. Sometimes a bit disorganized, but the people are warm and caring. Atmosphere - it’s top notch. The live music is so loud that we cant have a conversation at most tables. But if you come when there’s no live music sailing goat is relaxing as could be. Just need to time it right, not a biggie. Maybe one day they’ll get the marina dredged and we can bring our boat.

Yelp
After seeing enough reels online about this restaurant, I decided that it was time to finally check it out! We were a large party of 8 and expected to have a long wait time, but it turned out to only be about 15ish minutes. If you do have to wait long, you can walk around the corner to the bar and have a drink while you wait. To eat, my boyfriend and I shared the seafood stew and fish & chips. The stew was the big winner for me because of how much seafood they actually put in the dish! I was very impressed. I also loved that the fish had a light batter and came with a delicious tartar sauce. Pro tip: pack your hat and wear some sunscreen because even if the temperatures aren't high, the sun sneaks up on you out here.

Yelp
This place has been on our bucket list for a while and we finally came and are happy we did The drive up was exciting as we didn't know where it was and loved that it was tucked away. We got the seafood stew and fish and chips...both of them were great and perfectly fit with the location. Prices are fit for location and ambiance Service was quick and attentive The wait may be long Live music on Saturdays 5-8 Parking is easy Locations is beautiful, near the water and perfect for a walk before or after your meal.

Yelp
What a view! This restaurant took over the Pirate BBQ spot. It's a nice venue and they have regular entertainment on the weekends, which makes it worth the effort to travel and hang out for appetizers and a drink. We had a nice meal and a couple of cocktails. We had the fish and chips, seafood stew, a salad and appetizer. The food was all good, but the service is not the best. Maybe they're having challenges with people driving out to Point Molate, who knows, but don't go there if you're in a hurry. It's still a great spot to just enjoy the scenery, have a beer or cocktail, appetizer and relax! We're always in such a hurry these days, and stressed to .... Get it now! Just chillax and smell the fresh seafood and bay breeze. You won't regret it!

Yelp
First time at this establishment. Found out about it through tik tok. Ambiance is nice, beautiful view. Nice place for outdoor dinner. The place was full; lucky to have been seated right away. We ordered fish and chips and clam chowder. The fish and chips were really good!!! They took their time in bringing our food out to my surprise clam chowder was like warm. All that waiting for Luke warm- we've had plenty of clam chowder and it didn't impress. Too much parsley. The server with pigtails only took our order and disappeared. We saw her refilling others glass of water and only offered to do so for us after we paid.

Yelp
Great eclectic seafood and more spot right on San Pablo Bay in Richmond. A bit off the beaten path but worth the 10 min drive from the freeway. Neat location in an artsy little boat dock community with a neighboring goat farm. Great service, small but diverse menu, and outstanding food and drink. The Greek baked eggs were the best egg dish I've ever had! Highly recommend the side trip if near the Richmond-San Rafael bridge on a weekend.

Yelp
Very unique spot! Apparently this used to be a BBQ joint, now it is more of a general restaurant. It also used to be a dirt road the last half mile or so to get here, now it's all paved, but it is very narrow and bumpy. There's a pretty big parking lot (which fills up) and all around it is a wonderland for kids and adults alike. There's a goat pen, and there are big pieces of Burning Man-esque art, all interactive (you're allowed to climb them!). Lots of fun! I had called several times trying to make a reservation. No one answered, and their voicemail box was full; I always called on weekends during the day. My friend called and was able to make a reservation (7 people, a Saturday at 11am).. not sure if it was just luck or what. Service was good. It's a pretty chill vibe. Covered outdoor area. Sunny when we went on a Saturday in February. Stage where a band started playing at 1pm. A path to walk down to the end of the marina. More picnic tables directly out in the sun (with umbrellas), where we could be further from the music since we had a baby in the group. Generally kid-friendly, lots of families and young ones there. Our very shy one even made a good friend as they were climbing and playing on the sculptures! Total cost was $167.74 for 4 entrees, 1 side (shared between 2 small kids), 1 brunch entree, 2 coffees. Food for 4 adults, 2 kids. * Frittata ($16) - 3.5 stars. Salad had fresh ingredients. Frittata was spongy and a little hard, but overall tasty. * Cacciucco "Tuscan" Seafood Stew ($32) - 4 stars. It was really good and flavorful. Needs more bread, though!

Yelp
We love visiting Point San Pablo harbor! It's a very unique spot, tucked away behind the hidden roads near the Richmond-San Rafael bridge. It's a very small community and they have many sculptures from Burning Man stationed here. It's a beautiful place to walk around, admire the community garden and visit the goats and to check out the lovely houseboats! I wish I had nicer things to say about our first visit to Sailing Goat. We had been here when it was the Black Star Pirate BBQ but Sailing Goat is new to us. Parking is super easy out front. We parked and walked in to the restaurant. The sign says to wait to be seated. There was another couple in front of us. We waited about 10 mins which isn't too bad for Sunday 1:30pm on a holiday weekend. The ambiance is great - the outdoor seating by the bay is perfect! It went downhill from there. They took a long time to get our drink order. We ordered drinks and food at the same time. We had been looking at the menu for awhile so we knew what we wanted. And we didn't want to chances on more delays on placing our order. Drinks came out right away. The appetizer came out soon after. Water never showed up. I had a water bottle with me and I had finished that. Fish & chips came out. We used the empty appetizer bowl as one of the plates. My husband used the plate that the bowl was on. We had to be resourceful to to share the food but there was no wait staff to be found. A server, not for our table, came out so I flagged him down right away. We needed water, ketchup and plates. He brought us a pitcher of water and then realized that we didn't even have any glasses for water so he brought glasses filled with water. The fish & chips is gluten free and maybe that's why the batter was a little different for us. But it was good, freshly fried and it wasn't too greasy. The fries were great and the cole slaw was fine. Then our server came to clear our table and asked if we wanted any dessert. I reminded him that we're still waiting for our second entree. He looked befuddled. 2 of 3 of us walked over to the bathroom which took a long time - there was a line and there's only 1 bathroom. I stayed at the table and asked the next server that was coming by if our chicken is coming. She said it'll take must a few minutes. They finally brought out 3 clean plates. Then the entree finally came. The braised chicken finally arrive. Then we were waiting for the bill. Waiting and waiting. 2 of 3 of us got bored and left to explore the grounds. I flagged down another server. She gave me a bill. I'm getting tired of all this waiting. I finally paid the bill. The table next to us was seated after us and left long before us. Maybe we should have canceled the chicken entree. It was a long meal which I don't mind if the transition between courses is smooth but things got missed, order of chicken forgotten. I'm glad 3 of us shared the entrees - otherwise someone would have been very hungry. I do wish the service was better.

Yelp
Hidden gem with great views. It was a trek to get to, a little adventure if you will, and it was worth it. Plenty of parking with outdoor dining. Ordered the Harbor Chowder and Fish & Chips. Fresh and tasty. I also tried the Far West Cider: You Guava Be Kidding Me. I don't typically drink ciders and it was pretty good. There were plenty of people dining and service was slow but the employees were all nice and friendly.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE! This was my second time here and I'm already looking forward to coming back and I just finished my food. The ambience of the surroundings really makes this place a special stop to get some amazing quality food. It's located right in the water tucked back pretty far from the main roads but the 10 minute detour to get here is a stunning drive and the destination is a beautiful little cove where the restaurant is tucked in. The service is always very fast, even if they are busy. The fish and chips is probably some of the best I've ever had in my life and they are gluten-free, which is a huge plus for people with dietary restriction! Check this place out!

Yelp
went here for fathers day. got there at 11:15 and it was a long line to put our name down. ended up waiting about 1.5 hours to sit down. understandable due to father day but heard its usually busy on weekends. ordered fish and chips, brandade, seafood stew, and caesar salad, and chowder. but my brandade was sent to another table so didn't end up getting that :(. again, i understand it was busy. the fish and chips were really good though. the fries could have been crispier though. the caesar was delicious! all ingredients were fresh. my mom said the chowder wasnt as creamy as she likes. all the seating is outside. the parking lot gets filled quickly but there are a lot of spaces. theres cute sculptures around the area that you can walk to while you are waiting. our server, Jenny, was so hardworking and kind. all the staff were working hard on this busy day sk hats off to them.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the fish and chips! I never really order this at restaurants and I was happy how fresh the fish tasted.

Yelp
This is so good! I came here on a lovely day and got to walk around quite a bit. I was excited to see the menu. They have plenty of good gluten free options. I got the fish and chips and they were so good. The portion was huge and the fish was crispy. The cabbage slaw was good too. The service was good and the person serving me was helpful. I appreciate that. We got to sit outside, but it was summer and the weather was nice and warmish, as warmish as it could be next to the water. But we got a good meal, got some great drinks, and will be back.

Yelp
Got takeout here the other night. Fish and chips were perfectly cooked, and I had a very believable Spanish NA lager. Service was friendly, but not fast (waited 30'). The live music was pretty good, from what I heard of it, and not too loud. It's a lovely spot, great vibe for a romantic date (maybe someday I'll get to do that again).

Yelp
New ownership. New food than previous year of bbq. The seafood & Italian didn't disappoint. It was tasty and flavorful. The chowder is not the usual thick and creamy, it's a fish chowder stew. I was disappointed to hear, but when it came, it was surprisingly hearty and delicious! My son and I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the Warm Hibiscus Cider while waiting but it got cold and they don't have a way to warm it up, they said. I guess replacing it or refilling it is out of the question.

Yelp
Cool spot, was seated right away and staff was very friendly/informative. Appreciate all the dietary considerations on the menu. -1 star: food took 45 minutes to come out and wasn't hot but wasn't cold. Devoured it immediately since we were already hungry when we arrived. Not a bad venue to sit around and wait at though.

Yelp
A friend of my ex just died, and to cheer her up (my ex, not her late friend), I offered to take her out to the place of her choice, and she chose Sailing Goat. She'd been once before, but this was my first time, not only to the restaurant, but also to Point San Pablo. 1) The food: Good enough, but the price point was a bit high. We got the fish & chips (good enough) and the Roman pizza (memorable only because they used a putanesca sauce). My ex ordered a coffee (she hated it), and I got a porter stout (it was okay). All total: ~$76 plus a solid tip because I'm not a dick. 2) Service: Good enough, but leaning into "too nice" territory. It's certainly not standard Berkeley "service," but one doesn't expect to get Berkeley "service" outside of Berkeley. That's in their favor. 3) Location: This is the tough one for me. Getting there is not without its travails; if you miss the off ramp you're committed to a trip to Marin. The drive out is pleasant enough, but by the East Bay metric, it's remote. The reward for the effort? A dumpy little marina claiming to be a "yacht harbor" and some sculptural bits left over from Burning Man. Given the potential of the locale and the promise of the scenery on the way there, I was disappointed and that disappointment colored my experience. 4) The Burning Man sculptures: Junk, plain and simple. Don't get me wrong; I'm an art person, and I truly enjoy sculpture, but these bits and leftovers seemed more like certified "trippy" school projects by the Orthodox Non-Conformists who attend Burning Man (I've never been; I can take drugs, fuck, dance naked, and burn stuff, all in the comfort of my living room, so why bother?) In the final tally, this place is good enough, but it could be better and they've got Burning Man detritus on hand.

Yelp
Can't beat the location & service. Stay the night at the East Brothers Light House while you're on the water.

Yelp
Interesting place! Quite a bit of a drive to get out there. We went around 1:30 on a Sunday. Thought it was later than the usually lunchtime rush, but there was a line at the door. I guess, from reviews, that's normal. We waited probably 10 minutes, which wasn't bad considering how many people were in front of us. Our service was a little on the slow side, but the food was decent. My husband got the fish and chips, and I got the margherita pizza. The fish was fine, the fries were great. The pizza was really good. The fish came out probably 10 mins before the pizza, though. My husband was done eating before the pizza even came to the table. At the end of the meal, we had to ask two times for the check--strange, since the second waiter had one of the table-side point-of-service machines in his pocket. I'm not sure why our regular waitress didn't.... Anyway, cute funky little spot. All outdoor seating, so make sure you come when the weather is nice. Parking is all public and kind of crowded, but you can also park along the jetty.

Yelp
It was Father's Day when I came to visit this spot. A hidden restaurant but a treasure to be explored! On non-holidays, I'm sure it won't be too busy. Weekends they say are busy but weekdays shouldn't be a hassle. When I went with my family, it was first come first serve although the phone was ringing. Anyways, this restaurant sits by the water. A great spot as boats pass by or dock in. Restrooms are a walking distance along with house boats and parking spaces only for residents. There is plenty of parking infront of the restaurant. This place is dog friendly :) We were seated by the pizza oven where they handmade the pizzas. Quite a sight to see. The Margherita pizza was bland and the cheese wasn't melted. The Portuguese pie was delicious, I enjoyed that one! Fish and chips are one of the popular dishes. The fish fillet was golden brown and soft with the tartar sauce ooo-weee gotta get that! After brunch was finished, you can go take a walk by the coastline. Abandoned train tracks that lead to a trail. A small park for your children to have fun. Their own zoo with goats, though you can't pet the goats only can see. This location was a sight I unlocked, hope to find more out in the bay!

Yelp
Absolutely delish! We were looking for a great place by the water! And we found it! First time here but definitely not the last! Get the Brotzeit Sausage Platter! 2 types of sausage, sauerkraut, spatzle & a pretzel! Totally try the special game sausage! Doesn't disappoint! Drinks are fantastic! Beers are cold! Great service! Spent the afternoon eating and drinking! Absolutely beautiful!

Yelp
Quick summary: Very good food. The check-in process was confusing. Prices are high and the coffee was not so good. Great spot by the bay though! It took about an hour to get a table at 3pm on a Sunday but it was Mother's Day so that's to be expected. When we checked on our spot in line a couple times, the hostess seemed confused and told us the wrong phone number to receive texts even though we'd received a confirmation at the right number. We ordered the fish and chips, asparagus and lentils, and fish stew. The battered fish was crispy and tender. The asparagus and lentils was over a delicious curry, just a little spicy and layered with flavors. The fish stew was like a spicy chicken tortilla soup with good amounts of fish, mussels, and shrimp. Delicious and comforting. I ordered a cup of coffee and it was weak and not very hot. I asked for a French press instead and the coffee from it was hot and a little richer in flavor but still not great coffee. Skip the coffee and have hot tea or one of their speciality drinks. Service was fine even though they were busy. Live music was a really nice touch. The drive there is a bit long but that's no fault of the restaurant. It's a lovely spot. Just bring a jacket because it can get cold there.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. I've been here for several business lunch gatherings. Every time it's a great experience. The pizza tastes great. Beverage selection is a little unusual but very good. I do wish they had diet coke. Location makes for a relatively simple but somewhat exciting short road trip, the San Pablo marina. Trust Google maps, it will get you there. But you might wonder where the heck it's taking you. Don't stress out, and be sure to get in that right lane just before the Richmond centerfell bridge, or you will end up driving across the Richmond Centerville bridge. The whole restaurant is outdoor dining, but it's under cover. The cover is almost transparent, so on a super bright sunny day, it definitely behooves you to be wearing sunscreen and a ball cap. The owner could not be nicer.

Yelp
Really cute casual outdoor spot. When the weather is good--this place is a hidden paradise. Love the food. Table service fast, friendly, and efficient. The food was delicious. This has got to one of the best fish and chips I've ever eaten anywhere. The batter is airy, flakey, almost net-like crispiness. Food and service once you're seated is great! The hostess at the front is another story. We got there and waited 10 before a lady standing there said hi to us. Then she walked away, and didn't come back for another 10 minutes. After waiting over 20 minutes, just standing at the entrance, the same lady came back and asked how many people in our party, then proceeded to seat us. After she seated us, we noticed the restaurant was only half full. There were a lot of empty tables. On our way out-we saw a line of people waiting to be seated, but the hostess was just standing in the dining area listening to music. She was not paying attention to entrance where people were waiting to be seated at all. This explains the long wait times. We probably waited longer than it took to order and eat our food.

Yelp
Well isn't this a random delight. I had no idea ANYTHING was way out here off the last exit before you hit the San Rafael bridge :-) place opened about 8-9 months ago and is always compared to bull valley roadhouse because of the random backwoods drive to get here For about $100ish we ordered 2 orders of fish and chips, chocolate banana pudding, chowder , and my glass of wine that I needed because (these kids lol). Everything was just okay. I mean if I'm craving fish and chips I'd venture a little closer where food is more affordable for this type of fare AND seasoned a little better but overall it met our needs. I would definitely return just for the view, ruggedness, adventure and the fact my 2-year old liked it which makes me happy . So here to find a place they can run around while we eat. FYI Menu is small and a little eclectic but still gives off a seafood vibe .

Yelp
What a cool spot. Hidden gem! Came here couple weeks ago for a bday party and it was fantastic. Ambiance was lovely. Plenty of outdoor seating with live music, fresh air and right by the water. The food was great albeit pricey. We shared the Ceasars salad, lovely mussels and fritte as well as fish n chips. The fish was so fresh. We meant to share it with our almost 6 year old but she devoured more than half of it hahahaha our friends said the shakshuka eggs and the pumpkin dish were also yummy so I am assuming most dishes will be very well prepared. Portions are really good too. Very simple menu and same for drinks. The only absolute heartbreak were the desserts :( we tried their pannacota and bread pudding - sadly not on par do I would skip dessert or maybe try something with chocolate on the menu. Overall great spot and would return for the fish and lovely walks around it! Very child friendly albeit watch for the cars as they drive all the way in...

Yelp
What a cute little location for a restaurant. We came here about 5 PM and waited one hour, granted it was a holiday weekend. There was live music, which was fun. You can order drinks while you wait. (Wine & beer) once seated, we ordered our food came very quickly. I love that there is a pizza oven. All food was a hit. What a great vibe. The view is also great and cool to look at the house boats.

Yelp
This is a unique restaurant in an out of the way location. You will never see it from any road because it's around a hill on a north bay shore. When you do get there it's a really cool place with a big park surrounding it. A local sourced quality ingredient menu with local beers and wines too. See is outdoors on picnic tables that are covered. I recommend going on a nice day. It could be cold. Otherwise if it's windy or foggy. Don't forget and check out the goats on the other side of the park. I guess this is where it gets its name from.

Yelp
Great service. My husband liked his two large fish and chips. I had the fish stew. I received it hot. It was delicious.

Yelp
This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it's worth the trip. First, a note about the area - it's the only restaurant in the Point San Pablo Harbor. Definitely plan on spending some time before or after your meal here while it is still light out. Tons of cool and huge art exhibits out on display from Burning Man. The restaurant itself - tons of outdoor seating and very spacious. It's a bit cold there, so bundle up if you're going in the winter. The food: I particularly liked the Arancini. The only way I can describe it is a of a ball of mushroom risotto, deep fried and then dropped into shallow bowl of hearty tomato sauce. The fish & chips were excellently fried. Really nice batter on the fish although a tad bit on the greasy side. Duck rilette was like spreadable duck meat that came with cornichons and crostini. I liked it but would opt for a warm/hot appetizer given the weather. The chowder is not like New England style - you'll be disappointed going in with that expectation. Light on the cream and pretty heavy on assorted root crops. Looking forward to bringing friends and family to this fun spot. Will try to time it when they have live music!

Yelp
The best hidden gem in the Bay. Have been here a few times and it never disappoints. It almost feels like a visit to the original Hog Island location (atmosphere not food), and much closer and accessible to people in the north and east bay. The owner is super cool too - had a chance to meet him in the parking lot on Father's Day and heard his story. I am glad to see his success and hope it continues. Now for the details: - Get there well before you want to eat. There is always a wait. You put your name and party size down and they will text you. - Enjoy a walk around the marina, and check out the Burning Man style art projects all around. Kids will love the giant crocodile, bumble bee, etc to play on. - there's a nice beach to put your toes in the water or have a dog play around - Food is BOMB. Wood-fired pizzas, organic farm-to-table salads, a great wine list, and yummy cocktails or kombucha - usually a live band there on the weekends and holidays

Yelp
Arrived about 530 on a Saturday. There was a very short line, and a hostess who was working it efficiently and pleasantly. After about 5 minutes she approached us and the couple in line in front of us, telling us all that she had a 'picnic table' opening up, and would we be willing to share? As the tables were fairly large, we said SURE and were seated. The weather was lovely and it was such a pleasure sitting there. My friend and I ordered a glass of wine and the shrimp appetizer. Our young waiter was helpful and friendly. He checked on us a couple times to see if we were ready to order our entrees. I ordered the fish and chips, and my friend got the Margherita pizza. Both were delicious and plentiful. I took almost half of mine home. The area is just as funky and delightful as people said, and Yes- the road is windy and you keep thinking: where the heck are we? Final note: on someone's review they implied that the only bathrooms were porta-potties. Not true. There are a couple 'regular' ones near the floating homes.

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! We came on a Saturday lunch time just on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. Plenty of parking. Great view. And best of all, the food was very good! The duck rillette was delicious, the top is fatty and the bottom is more of a mouse or pate kind of texture. I also really liked the fish and chips and mushroom arancini. The mushroom dish was my favorite out of what we ordered, it was like a mushroom risotto that is rolled in crispy rice and deep fried, great texture and really tasty. I am not a fan of their clam chowder, because it is not as creamy as I would prefer. Service was great. A little chilly in the winter, I bet this place is more popular in summer months. We saw a sign that said they have live music on Fri-Sun 4-7pm, so next time we'll try to come for dinner. Can't wait to be back here! It is very kid friendly, but just need to keep an eye on your little ones because the water is right there next to the restaurant. My 11 year old said "This is the best restaurant I ever had" (an exaggeration, but he did love the food here today). There's a little beach and some cool sculptures nearby that offers a nice walk after the delicious meal.

Yelp
Not just a restaurant but a destination. You can easily spend the afternoon in the tiny harbor walking the jetty, enjoying the view, checking out the giant works of art on display and, of course, eating at the Sailing Goat. The food was fresh, thoughtfully prepared and delicious. We ordered the perfectly crispy fish and chips, a wonderfully spiced Berbere chicken, refreshing strawberry lemonade and a delightful fruit galette. Location Ambiance Food I almost forgot... service! Great crew- from hostess to the wait staff all were friendly and made you feel welcomed. It'll was the cherry on top of a wonderful experience. Service I can not wait to go back!

Yelp
We came by on a Sunday late afternoon to enjoy live music at the Sailing Goat in the Point San Pablo Harbor, brazilian beats by Boca do Rio, extremely talented musicians that set the mood for us while we took in the beautiful waterfront view of the sun setting in the background. We arrived around 6pm, it was a bit crowded, but the worker found us seating right in front of the live music "stage" in the covered outdoor seating area, so that was cool (they have uncovered outdoor seating too). From the menu, we tried the salt cod fritter, along with cardamom tea and san pellegrino sparkling beverage. The fritters were made perfectly, slightly crisp on the outside, full of flavorful ingredients, a super satisfying snack while we enjoyed our time here. What's more, there's much to see surrounding the restaurant. Numerous boats sitting in the marina. Near the parking lot, plenty of goats in their pen, a unique looking swing, and a few giant art sculptures spread out in a picnic like setting. Sure there were some winding roads to get here, but it was totally worth it, the perfect ambience and experience. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Great hidden gem of a spot, but mediocre food that is quite pricey. Fish and chips was tasty, tho the chips were inexcusably soggy. Caesar salad was nothing to write home about. Service is good, people are friendly.

Yelp
Tucked away in Point San Pablo Harbor, Richmond, you will find the new-ish Sailing Goat Restaurant. If you've been to this spot before, you may remember the restaurant as the former Black Star Pirate BBQ. Have some time? This fun and value friendly spot is truly off the beaten path and fun to explore pre/post meal filled with funky art pieces, live animals, beautiful waterfront views and sometimes live music and events. We've been twice now to Sailing Goat, and each time we've ordered the crisp Wood fired pizzas, the Little Gem Caesar and fresh Gluten Free Fish and Chips. (FYI you order first before you sit). Learning the owner is the chef from Anaviv's Table, now Anaviv's Open Market in Richmond, makes complete sense because the food is absolutely incredible! FYI, this spot may be a bit of a drive, but it's well worth the trip! Looking forward to trying more items from the menu on a weekend when there's music!

Yelp
The Pirate BBQ restaurant use to occupy this venue. Now it's the Sailing Goat! I think this may be the best fish and chips I've had. The fish was hot and had a light delicate batter. The fish were not the biggest by all means. The tartar sauce they use is really good. It's not your regular variety but incorporates other ingredients. One drawback is when you're eating the wider portion of the fish the container holding the tartar sauce has such a narrow diameter that you can't dunk your fish into it but need to use a spoon to put on the fish. The meal was good and comes on a relatively tiny tray. The service was alright. The view of the all the boats docked is tranquil. On a beautiful day a definitely peaceful place to enjoy a meal.

Yelp
Unfortunately I feel like this place has not been as good recently. We went Friday and still enjoy the location and food was good although pricey, but the music was unbearable. The man singing had endless offensive lyrics including a song where he talked about how skinny women look unhealthy to him and he likes "big girls." Blasting so loud it's hard to hear each other talk. The service was also terrible. We ordered dessert and after it hadn't come for at least 30 minutes we spent forever getting the waiter's attention, then asked to please cancel it because we had to go. He made us wait a few more minutes and did not cancel it and brought it and charged us anyway (likely after previously having forgotten). Both these things left a bad taste.

Yelp
OMG! Food 10/10 had the fish and chips and wild blueberry aqua Fresca!! Best I've ever had!!!' I'm not much of a fish eater and very picky. Beautiful views. The servers were very attentive! The dinning area is outside we went on the perfect day. This property is well taken care of. The road to get there seems a bit sus but don't worry. Be cautious driving it can be narrow and rugged.

Yelp
Very quirky place but cool. You wouldn't even know the place is there, given that you go down a narrow little road. But there it is. And plenty of other people have gotten there too. Very casual vibe, with lots of people enjoying themselves. You They were having live music this evening too, so that was a plus. We ordered the mushroom pizza and the fish and chips. The mushroom pie was delicious, with a nice crust. (We watched the pizzas being cooked in their pizza oven.) The fish and chips were notable for being well cooked, not dry, with a very light crust. Friendly staff, but they were a bit slammed - I think they said they were short a person. Nevertheless, a good time here.

Yelp
Friendly service with a great view! This outdoor patio is tucked away in Richmond and is quite a hidden gem. We came on a Friday afternoon and had no problem getting parking or a table. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful with suggestions. We option for their fish and chips, what they're known best for. They were crunchy, flaky, and the ratio of fish to batter was really good! Pair with a crisp cold draft beer and you have the most excellent lunch.

Yelp
DOG OWNERS BEWARE unfortunately do to the unacceptable and unhygenic practices and service here I would give this place negative -20 stars if I could. I was wanting to trying out this spot for the longest time esp bc they are dog friendly. I made the long drive to come here. I came with my senior dog who has a heart condition. Upon being seated I asked the server for a paper cup so I could get my dog some water. Before I could turn around quick enough she had already placed a metal dog bowl filled with MURKY DIRTY DISGUSTING DIRT AND ROCKS IN THE BOWL and my dog started drinking it but i had to pull it away asap. If you wouldnt drink this water yourself why would you give it to a dog????? I went up to the counter and asked to speak with a manager (name is Ross). As I was crying, I was explaining the situation and showed him the water and all he said was "okay" no apology or moves to proceed to do better or be better. Not manager material if you ask me. I then placed the digusting bowl on the counter which was next to the water dispenser and the manager Ross very aggressively and in anger whacked the dog bowl off of the counter and onto the ground then walked away. Another employee witness and asked if I was okay and offered me some water. I was still trying not to cry because i was so emotional over 1) my dog recieving this "water" that could be harboring diseases 2) to be treated so poorly and unkind when addressing this situation to the manager Ross I then saw the server that gave me the dirty water bowl and showed her. She then picked up from the ground another filthy water bowl and asked if i wanted that one (like are you serious????). I chose to not eat here. Would not recommend. Go to FISH restaurant in Sausalito instead- theyre 10/10. The food is waaaay better, great customer service, better views etc.

Yelp
Alright class. Who here knows where Point San Pablo is? I honestly have lived in the Bay Area my whole life and never knew this little area existed. It was such a fun little find recently. You go down a windy road on the exit right before the San Rafael Bridge on the way to Marin. At the end of the road is where you'll find Point San Pablo and Sailing Goat Restaurant. Park anywhere. The dirt lot is a decent size but it seems to be mainly for the restaurant. There are nice sights of the Bay all around so maybe take a look before or after you are done! So protip: Get here when they open. We came on a Sunday and not long after they opened there was a line so just a warning. There was a band playing some really beautiful music. I was trying to figure out the language they were speaking but I think it might of been Hebrew? Regardless the vibe was really nice. I wasn't really expecting such an amazing atmosphere. The waiter we had was really professional and kind too. There was an instance where we were missing one of our dishes but he saw it and picked up on it right away so that was cool. Food was on point. I really enjoyed the ratio of breading on the fish and chips. I thought the breading had a good taste to it as well. Fries are amazing all around. I think the winners for me this day were the Mussels and the ...Caesar Salad. It's weird man. I normally don't want to talk up a salad. Maybe its because im starting to eat more Vegetarian Food this year but something about the leaves being whole did it for me. It tasted really fresh but maybe it was the croutons too...But yea definitely recommend that and the Mussels. The sauce that comes with Mussels was astounding. I mean you would think it would have to because Mussels themselves have such an overpowering flavor. But not all places execute this so well. I feel like there needs to be something just as bold to compliment the mussels flavor. The creaminess and garlic flavor of the sauce really comforts the crevices of your taste buds. If you are fan of Mussels, this dish should be your priority. You also get a lot which is always a plus when it's seafood. But ultimately we had really nice lunch experience. I can't wait to come back on another nice day!

Yelp
Ambience can't be beat - worth the drive! Food is fresh and delicious. Service is friendly.

Yelp
Way out of the way with nice ambiance if you like a rustic dinning experience. Limited menu and food is prepared quickly. More of an upscale home style cooking. Prices and portions leave something to be desired. The seating is outside only so dress accordingly. Multiple propane heaters and the dinning area is covered. Overall, hipster vibe, $17-30 per food item, have a reliable car to get there, food was quality ingredients but bland.

Yelp
Came back here a second time and I was glad to see that the wine barrel "tables" they had towards the entrance of the restaurant have now been replaced with more comfortable and ergonomically friendly picnic tables. This time around I was also able to snag a parking spot in the main area rather than the overflow lot. There was a friendly gentleman there that assisted customers with parking and created a great first impression of the place. The menu had changed since I last came, so I never have an excuse not to come. The Zarzuela Seafood Stew that I shared was good but not mind-blowing and the price seemed a bit too steep for the quantity. Enjoyed my time here overall looking at the water and seeing the goats, but this place would definitely be more of a "treat" for me rather than a regular restaurant outing spot.
