I get that South Tucson has a rep for being really scary, but you would never deduce that after a fun evening at Saint Charles Tavern.
It's spiritually a sort of dive bar, but you'll second guess that with the dozen or so craft beers on tap, or variety of high quality liquor. On some visits, I get myself a nice Red IPA, and on others, one of Hendrick's seasonal gins with some tonic and fresh citrus. If you're lucky, they'll have one of their small batch cocktails ready to order, like Sangria or Rum Punch. The bartenders here have some underrated skill and could probably expand a real cocktail program if they put their minds together.
Billiards inside. Spacious seating outside. Live music almost every weekend. It feels more 4th avenue than 4th avenue does, and I wish it were closer to downtown. Aside from its location, there's really nothing more you could ask for.
