Saint George Greek Orthodox Church of Albuquerque

I look forward to the Greek Festival every year for good, clean, wholesome fun. While I love spanakopita, it disappointed me. The small pieces were dry, and my guest, who owned a restaurant, couldn't eat his gyro. Today we ate at Yasmine's down the street and loved their spanakopita and gyros. PLEASE consider using them or their recipes next year.

The festival was real fun to watch the Greek dancer's and the food was great. Get there was no problem by using the park and ride. You get dropped off and picked up right at the entrance so if you have a hard time walking it's a short walk in the entrance.

I visited while in the area in October 2023 for the solar eclipse. This is such a beautiful church and the community is very friendly! Thank you, Fr. Conan for welcoming visitors! The service is mostly in English with some Greek, and it was lovely how they said the Lord's Prayer in as many languages as spoken by the people present... so sweet, it melted my heart.

The church is beautiful. They offer a tour and will explain all the paintings and sculptures and reliefs. Once a year they have a Annual Festival to help raise money. The festival offers everything you want gyros lamb meat Greek coffee baklava and Grecian products. Military Get free access. There is a free park and ride. It is a really neat Community experience. I cannot wait for next year.

A festive and beautiful event. The weather was mild and calm. Excellent food and tasty hot coffee. Exciting dancers and everyone was smiling. Thank you to all the volunteers and the hard working people who put this together. I will return.

A beautiful and historic church building. Built in the 1950s. Outfitted with amazing icons. Large Mosaic Dome above the congregation. Hosts an annual Grecian Festival on the first weekend of October each year. The festival is open to the General Public. The festival is features food music, art for sale, folk dancing with children youth adults and Senior groups. An active congregation.

My wife is Greek Orthodox and she invited me to church. We arrived early, sat closer to the front. Their was a lot of people June 9th, the church was supporting a member in mourning. The service was beautiful, the music sung by the choir was beautiful. After the service a lunch was prepared. The lunch was excellent. Must attend to appreciate the experience.

I attended the annual Greek Festival on 10/7/18. The one thing that I didn't know was that you get in free on Sunday. Awesome. Not that it costs a lot and it goes charity. Enjoy Greek dancing, Ageon Sounds band, traditional dancers, church tours, shopping bazaar and of course the food. I am reviewing for vegan food now but my past experience and my family's experience shows that the food is delicious. Don't forget to pre calculate your tickets so you don't have to make the decision while holding up the line. This year being vegan the choices were potatoes, salad without dressing and dolmas. Would love more options in the future. My family enjoyed roasted chicken, spanakopita, gyros, feta cheese with olives. It was all really delicious for them. Not so much for a vegan though, but that's ok. It is always a fun time!

If you want to go to a church where the hook is that no one knows anyone, or where everyone knows everyone; if you think that priority of your church from the pulpit to the pews is the latest spiritual fad; if you want to hear people fight over buzz words like "missional", "Rob Bell", or "emergent"; if you want your pastor's most qualifying feature to be that people generally like him and that he's a decent public speaker; if you want a sunday morning rock concert, and light show; DO NOT come to St. George Greek Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Church is the very same Church founded and headed by Christ that was established at Pentacost nearly two millenia ago. Our theology wasn't invented to fit our particular cultural, political, socio-economic, or ethnic biases. It was revealed. We did not schism from some pre-existing church in order to compensate for some abuse or theological error. To the contrary, our dogmas have never changed. St. George is one of two churches in Albuquerque that are canonical parishes of the ancient Christian Church. The Orthodox Church is a spiritual hospital for sinners and at St. George, that's exactly what you'll find, sinners. We are people in need of healing and Christ has offered humanity healing through The Church. At St. George you will find a diverse community of people corporately celebrating and receiving the grace of God by participating in the sacraments. We do not always do everything correctly, but by the grace of God, we want to be lights in a dark world proclaiming the mystery the Gospel of Jesus. If you are looking for a church where you can know others and be known, where the priority from the altar to the narthex is union with God, where you'll be hard pressed to find parishioners debating the merits of Calvin, Luther, Spurgeon, Edwards et. al., If you want to worship God in a Liturgy that is officiated by a priest whose ordination can be traced back to the Apostles themselves, if you want to participate in a mystical union with God that transcends whatever fad may be popular now, then by all means visit St. George. The power of God to forgive us and reconcile us to himself is alive and well in the Orthodox Church. Come and see...

I am neither Greek nor Catholic or Orthodox, but my wife and I have been enjoying the annual Greek Festival for several years. It is a wonderful event, good Greek menu, good gift shop, and especially the Greek music and dancing are some of the best events available in Albuquerque. We look forward to it every year.
