"St. George Island State Park, located off the coast of Florida, is renowned for its pristine beaches with powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water. Named the best beach in the U.S. by Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman (Dr. Beach), the park offers nine miles of unobstructed shoreline, family-friendly amenities, and abundant wildlife. It is accessible by car via Brian Patton Memorial Bridge, with the nearest airports being Tallahassee International Airport and Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. The park features campgrounds, a nature trail, and is an excellent spot for stargazing due to low light pollution." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Spent two nights here in Jan, 2022 in a 30' Class C RV. What a surprise! Beautiful layout, clean bathhouses (2), short walk to a white sand beach that seems to go on forever. Quiet and dark sky. All the sites were taken so please do not tell anyone Nicest place we stayed in over 30 RV parks. Watch out for the alligator. LOL

Google
Very pretty park, nice nature trails and plenty of beach. Seems like most campers are RVs, here for longer term stays. Dogs are not allowed on the beach but there are a bunch of beach access points so you could perhaps sneak on with your dog without a problem. A few miles down the road there are public beaches that are dog friendly. The rule is that dogs must be on leash but if you go when it isn’t crowded you shouldn’t have a problem as long as you don’t run into a Karen. The campground has a nice nature trail. I’m only giving it 4 stars because any sounds of nature except for crickets at your camp site are drowned out by the hum of RV air conditioning units. I camped in a tent so it was kind of disappointing as it felt like I was camping between buildings buzzing with electricity.

Google
A hidden gem in paradise. A well kept campground with very close access to the beach

Google
Great campground. Spacious and well laid out.

Clean restrooms, good privacy between sites. Convenient access to ice, the beach, and miles of hiking trails.

Florida State Parks are absolutely the best. Sun, sand, salt, sunrises, sunsets, dolphins, deer, anything that you can do. Save booking for the last week so I can camp. Hehehe. Enjoy Fl. State Parks. Amazing!

Google
No Wifi in today's day and age it's lacking internet and Wifi and not dog friendly on the beaches set aside some land for your family pet they deserve to go to the Beach to, but St George Island State Park is a place where you can get away from the hustle and bustle and just sit back and relax once over the bridge built on or over the dunes the White sandy Beaches await you as your toes sink through the sands and your off for family fun in the Sun and a safe place to bring your family so what are you all waiting for pack the car bring some lunch and your fishing poles and try your luck at catching the big one!

Google
Very nice! Beautiful views, just wish campers and tents were separated.

Yelp
We RV camped at St George for 3 days and 3 nights and the service + amenities were 5*. The charge is $25 roughly for a day and it includes full service campsite which includes power hook up, water services and drainage facilities. The showers and toilets are clean with hot water heaters. There are about 60 campsites and the slots fill up pretty quickly. Each campsite has its own fire pit and a considerable private space without intruding into each others areas. The beach is easily accessible within a 5 min drive. There's long and easy trails to the beach and backwater too which was a lot of fun. Highly recommend for a peaceful and quiet time by the beach.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous! Star gazing is the best feature of this park for me. The dark sky community makes a huge difference in the amount of visible stars. I finally saw the Milky Way! Beach was not crowded in July 2024. Very clean. Just beautiful

Yelp
When traveling to the area this State Park was one of the places we bookmarked to visit. Traveling to a barrier island is always something I look forward too when the opportunity presents itself. Access to St. George Island is via a causeway / bridge, crossing over more than 4 miles of open water which is one of the things that should be enjoyed, everyone should accept that traveling to your destination should always be part of the fun. While most people that commute to or from the mainland are on a mission and although no two days are the same these locals I'd say have tunnel vision and just want to get from point A to point B and could care less about the adventure, they sometimes show frustration when riding your bumper or pulling in and out of their lane while trying to make an illegal pass while folks like me are taking in the view at forty miles an hour. After exiting the bridge take a left at the light and you're about four miles from the entrance to the park, this is where the adventure begins. The road inside the park is lined with giant dunes, as the land mass narrows the water begins to appear. I can imagine that weekends and holidays could be busy but today it's total isolation. The salt grass and pines sway in the breeze which constant, the air is clean and refreshing and the sun warms the white sand that is as fine as powder and squeaks when you walk through it in your bare feet. The waves break close to the shore if you're a shell collector you'll have to chase them as they tumble away from the shore enticing you too venture into the water and grab them before they retreat into the deep duunnn dunnn... duuuunnnn duun... duuunnnnnnnn dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn dunnnn...

Yelp
I hesitate to share this hidden gem with the public, but this place is beautiful. I forgot how wonderful it is to be at a pristine, unpopulated beach. We experienced the best of both worlds because we parked at the area where they have bathrooms and an outside shower. Let me warn you that there are signs about stingrays and not feeding the seagulls... etc. But you shouldn't come here unless you really respect nature. Beautiful dunes and sea oats, long, white-sand beach, wonderful pavilions that can be reserved.

Bruce K.

Yelp
Beaches and a lighthouse, what more could you imagine is perfection. Well, this park also has public restrooms (clean!) and at least one playground with a pickleball court that sits in the shadow of the famous light house. Parking was free when I was here during off season so I couldn't tell you how much it might be - or how much might be available - during high season. Check out the light house. Walk on the beach. Relax! [Review 14671 overall, 171 of 2021, number 1237 in Florida.]

Yelp
Nice as always However the popularity has trash in the state park and everybody is fishing. Not the hidden spot of even 10 years ago. Still not as crowded as some beaches are on the emerald coast, but not the same

Nicole S.

Yelp
As locals that live full time on the island, the state park is our favorite Gulf side beach access. Surrounded by nature and it's never crowded.

Yelp
Dale and Jolene, the camp hosts, at the campground are very deserving of a great review and a big thank you. We stayed several days in the site next to them and they were both kind, welcoming and helpful. The sites and bathrooms were very clean and that was greatly appreciated. We wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for a lovely stay! Tammy was also very kind at the ranger station/check in.

Amanda J.

Yelp
Very clean and quiet. Great place to take the kids. Easy beach access, boat ramp, camp ground, and more! Great place to hang for the day.

Rachel R.

Yelp
Clean beaches with stunning views. Natural beauty. We even saw dolphins. Remarkably non-busy for spring break.

John H.

Yelp
SGI SP is at the northeastern end of the island. Our daily admission for auto was $6, the ranger at the gate was very friendly, and I received a good information sheet on red tide. The shower/restroom area is well built and maintained. However, this end of the island has more scrub than trees, so makes for hot hiking, even in October. The beach is great, but you can get that most places on the island. So unless you have a particular reason for getting in, I'd save your admission fee for a winter day, a rainy day, or at least a cloudy day, when you're likely to better appreciate the place without blazing hot sun.

Brenda D.

Yelp
Park Rangers are friendly & helpful. The beach areas are nice very clean. We found some sea shells big ones at low tide. We saw lots of birds which they were nice to see up close. We live to shire fish & caught a few keepers & let them go - Red & Black drum. The pavilions & bathroom are very clean. Worth the 6 entrance fee.

Greg S.

Yelp
It's a cool old style light house and a beautiful view definitely worth a visit while on the island

Justin C.

Yelp
Beautiful park! Our go to when avoiding the crowds at the public beach, stinks they dont allow pets/drone usage but totally understandable. The admission price is for the entire day by the way.

Chuck H.

Yelp
A must visit while on St. George Island. Miles of beautiful beaches! Very nice campground but book ahead as it is a very popular destination.

Doug S.

Yelp
A great secluded get away place. Plan on a lot of walking , the beaches are more natural than what you see around the developed areas. Fishing is ok.

Daniela D.

Yelp
We decided to visit this beach over any other beaches because my boyfriend used to come here in high school. When we went it was a spontaneous trip and it was absolutely gorgeous. The water was clear, the sand was flat, and it was just beautiful all around. However, if you want a drink, the rum runner was $12!!!! Super expensive but I guess if you're going to live like you're in the Caribbean the prices are alright.

Blr R.

Yelp
Fantastic electric mobility assisted sand scooters are available for use in the park! Two new mobility scooters at the time this was posted. Lance Kelly was our very happy and helpful ranger and was a pure pleasure to meet! These sand electric scooters have huge balloon tires that allow disabled individuals the ability to drive on the sand along the beach front. A HUGE BENEFIT for those who are unable to walk without assistance! The State of Florida and their highly trained rangers deserve a 5 star rating! Thank you!!! We appreciate all you do!

Jo N.

Yelp
I know this is not the campgrounds fault but I was literally eaten alive. The mosquitoes are so bad and it's November 15. The bathrooms were clean enough. The campsites were very private. The campground was peaceful and quiet. I would've given a four-star but I can't get over how miserable I am due to the hundred or more mosquito bites I have just from going the 200 steps from my campground up to the bathroom.

Irene H.

Yelp
My husband and I found this little gem during our vacation. We never heard of it before so we had no preconceived notions. We were just looking for a couple of days to enjoy the surf, sun and fresh air in a nice wooded area. Roughly 50 sites are available for RVing and tenting. Our RV site came with water and electric hook up and there is a dump station. We were not far from the showers and bathrooms which were exceptionally clean. Our site was equipped with the standard picnic table and fire pit. Dogs are permitted at this park. There is a playground for children at one side of this RV park, as well as a dog walk. We noticed that there were two campground hosts who are very friendly and offered suggestions for things we might like to do while we were there. One campground host sold firewood and ice. This was very convenient as the town is several miles away. I would gladly return tomorrow if I could as this RV site is priceless. April 2016 we came back for more R & R. We will return again.

Daniel R.

Yelp
This is a great park. One of Florida's best. However, you must know what you're getting into. This is a primitive park. (For a lack of a better word). Be prepared for Mosquitoes. They ate us alive. The worst I've ever endured. My wife and I ventured to the east pass for some fishing. Which is beautiful by the way. After the five mile off pavement trek, to the parking area, we opened the doors and became engulfed by the swarm of mosquitoes. I've fished flamingo and 10 thousand islands. They were worse than that. Be prepared.

Mindy J.

Yelp
Drove through here one afternoon not knowing what to expect from a Florida State Park.... To the untrained eye, it is basically just a mile or so of straight sand dunes....a few places to park on the right side with walkways to the public beach, a couple pavillions and bathrooms... and that's it. Keep going though,... and look at EVERYTHING... Watch the birds, find the nests,.. Really cool blocked off places are homes to several bird nesting areas. We went all the way towards the end though, and i noticed a walkway on the LEFT side,.. The Bay side,... So we stopped to see where it went. While i hadn't realized how far the platform actually goes back, (1/4 a mile?) it was definitely worth the walk. It opens up to an entirely different Florida than I have ever seen before. The Bay was so quiet and peaceful, not even a wave crashing... Just calm water, and silence,... all you hear are the cicadas singing and the wind blowing, with a slight tapping from a nearby woodpecker... AMAZING. Reminded me of a place here in Tennessee I love. With nobody for miles. Also a cool note- Coming from the water through the grass up to the platform, there was what I want to say, A Crocodile trail... Had to be,.. I don't know anything else big enough to make that trail. So maybe if you don't go in the heat of the day as we did, you may actually get to see one!!!

Terri S.

Yelp
We just took our 1st "long" RV trip to Florida and thoroughly enjoyed our time at this island. We stayed across the Bay at Eastpoint, but took 3 trips to SGI while there. Shelling was like no other place I have ever been! We had such a great time just walking the beaches picking up shells, sponges, driftwood, dead starfish etc. The weather was cooler than we had hoped but it was gorgeous! We will definitely return!

Mick D.

Yelp
Fantastic place. Cool campsites and easy beach access. Nice pavilions for a quick picnic. The park ranger at the gate was very friendly. And when we did our quick drive through, the place wasn't even that busy. There are a big handful of geocaches around, too. Whatever you know about the rest of St. George Island, this park will show you a piece of "untouched" Florida. (As close to untouched as it gets.) Enjoy!

Mary Ann D.

Yelp
Beautiful white sand beach and sparkling clean facility. Please don't ever come here because the best part is the lack of people!!!

Caroline S.

Yelp
I stayed at the campground for a week with my family. Very clean and the bathhouses are nicely managed. It's a very family friendly place and the beach is beautiful. There's a bit of a walk from the campground to the ocean, make sure you don't have to carry a lot if you're walking. We always drove to the beach and parked in some of the areas they have scattered along the road. I would recommend paying the $6 or so dollars required to go out to the end of the island. It's a few more miles and I saw some stingrays, crabs, and a lot of shells! Perfect for the shell lovers. Nice dining options on the island and in neighboring towns.

Charme G.

Yelp
The kids and I went there for a little hiking or trail walking. It was so hot. What were we thinking. The park was beautiful. Nice facilities. you must bring your own water and supplies. The trail was nicely cleared out, we didn't get to the end due to it being so hot. There were benches along the way to rest as well. We should try again when it's cooler.

Gaby S.

Yelp
This is what a beach vacation should be. Pristine beaches without that many people. Here you can camp (RV or primitive), fish right off the beach or on your boat (3 boat launch locations), ride you mountain bike (sandy trails), or just lay on the sand. Very calm and tranquil. On the gulf side you have nice bathrooms, fresh water showers, and large shelters with grill stations.

Mary P.

Yelp
I'm not big on photos - especially if I like the place and all I have is my phone. But all the photos people posted her are true. The park has a wonderful beach on one side and a lagune on the other. Hiking trails and an overlook are there. But don't forget an insect repellant when you enter the forest - it's Florida and mosquitos are hiding in a glimpse of a shade. The beach, on the other hand, has nice shells and welcoming waters. Very relaxing.

Lindsay W.

Yelp
Amazing beaches! We stayed on SGI for a week and the difference between our beach and the state park was notable! I suppose it was due to shallower water, wind direction, and etc., but the water in the state park was just gorgeous! There were some drunk/crude ppl at the first place we parked, so we headed on to the area with the restrooms and pavilions. It was just a perfect day and it being late September, not crowded at all. It was $6 a car, not too bad I guess. We were just sight-seeing, and didn't go through completely. We had grumpy kids, & we were all tired of car riding!

Allan M.

Yelp
An absolutely beautiful beach to visit, if you're in the Panhandle area of Florida. Just under 11/2 hrs. southwest of Tallahassee via driving, and under an hour east from Panama City. I went to Saint George Island twice for family get-togethers when I was a teen in the '90s, and we made at least one trip over to this beach each time we got together and rented a beach house on St. George. The beach is undeveloped, and 9 miles long all the way to its east end. In addition, it has hiking trails, two boat launch ramps, and several camping areas, including one only accessible by boat. And how did I initially forget to say in my review that I even saw dolphins swimming in the distance at least once? Hmmm........ Crossing my fingers that I get to revisit this park someday, and possibly for a camping trip.

Daniel K.

Yelp
This is a beautiful little park/beach that's perfect for camping. I surprised my wife and took her here one weekend and we had a great time. The best part about it is that it's isolated. Aside from the people in your campground, you won't hear any traffic or annoying noises. They even close the park at a certain time to discourage random visitors. You'll also get a great view of the stars and white sandy beaches. There is a small village nearby with necessities like gas, as well as restaurants with fresh oysters (buy a bag and shuck 'em yourself on the beach)! Oh, and did I mention it's affordable? I believe our spot for one night was only $25 or so (maybe less). Anyway, I definitely recommend this place for a staycation or vacation.

G N.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful a d the best family beach scene I've had the pleasure of experiencing. Water is perfect sand is too... Love the covered picnic areas...

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Don't go to St. George Island State Park if you're expecting Daytona or Panama City Beach... This park is the opposite of commercial and crowded. My last visit was in February of last year, and my group literally had an entire section of the beach to ourselves. It's one of my favorite places to go... the perfect place to think and wander and truly be alone with just water, sand, seashells, and long grass.

Renee V.

Yelp
Nice State Park. Well kept although right now it's kind of ugly since they've done back burning. Otherwise the area is pleasant and I would stay here again. Nice to have 50 amp and water, but sure wish they had sewer.

Jammy S.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful is the appropriate description. We had an interesting experience here. It involved a middle aged family dressed mostly in beige, a very angry little crab, and a complete language barrier. Fun times. St. George Island State Park is a great place to lay on the beach and read, very low key. The facilities / restrooms are very nice and the scenery is varied and lovely. From large sea grass covered dunes and fallen trees to long low beaches aglow with frothy waves. The island itself is wonderful, the park is just another great perk.

Mark H.

Yelp
Great park to stay in. Clean bath houses, quiet spots and close to the water (bay or gulf). The only negative is the slots are small and campers are close to each other. (30'). This is the reason for 4 stars and not 5. For campers - the only place to fill your propane tanks is at the Ace Hardware in Apalachicola. They charge by the tank, not by the gallon or pound. Take an empty tank. Also - you must eat at Bay Side Burgers while in the area. My father-in-law is the only person in the family who could eat the entire double stacker bacon cheese burger. And he's the skinniest one in the group. Unbelievable!!!

Miles S.

Yelp
Amazing that a place this beautiful and big is so empty! We walked the white sand beaches, picked up TONS of shells, kayaked & paddle boarded the bay side and really loved being in the park. We stayed on the Island for a week and the park became our go-to spot. We didn't checkout the gated fishing area at the end of the park but the launch next to the canoe/kayak rental storage area was full of fish so we never needed to go. Can't wait to get back!

LeeAnn Y.

Yelp
HANDS DOWN this is one of my favorite parts of the WHOLE island! It is just absolutely beautiful and is a sight that everyone should see. Next visit I am hoping to camp. It was 6 bucks to get into the park and seems like it could go on and on forever. Great shells to be found on the beaches

Kendra D.

Yelp
Went here on our last day of family vacation at St. George's. The beaches are beautiful, sand seems whiter. It was very uncrowded and relaxing. The water is blue and very clear compared to the rest of the island. Great place for whiting fishing as its shallow with a shelf off shore. We saw 3 large sea turtles which were beautiful!

Kristin O.

Yelp
We rented some scooters while at SGI and drove to the park with them. At the end of the island there is a gate that you can get access to through the park ranger. I would definitely recommend doing so! Once you get through there you drive about another 5 miles to literally the end of the island. There were a lot of fishermen back there. It was an awesome experience watching the two different bodies of ocean clash. We saw a lot of wild life including a bald eagle, jelly fish, sting ray and many native birds. An overall nice experience. There is a small fee to access the park.

H R.

Yelp
I couldn't get anyone in our rental house to do anything but go to the beach and I'm not a beach-7-days-a-vacation person. This park was a wonderful discovery for someone who needed to do stuff alone. I did a two hour hike the first day I visited taking the hike through the woods to the campground and then coming back via the beach. The second day I brought a kayak (rented from Journeys) and kayaked around Rattlesnake Cove. Beautiful. Peaceful. Teaming with life. Next time I will bring my fishing rod as the mullet were jumping like crazy. Good place to bike as well. The beaches are pristine and do not allow dogs. The bathroom facilities are easy to get to from every location in the park. Look for the big Osprey nest near the cove!

Justin C.

Yelp
Awesome place quite not over crowded. If you fish go when they open at 8 and pay extra to go out to the east point (only 20 passes a day are issued for vehicles not people). I had no luck with squid out there but shrimp seemed to work good. You can also fake bait there the lady fish love it and you can get the whiting to hit it also. Low tide you can wade out to the drop off and catch about anything even sharks so if it is fighting real hard get back on the beach and warn anyone close you got one on. Only complaint we had after a week was a guy caught a shark from the beach told no one released it right next to me and my two kids the shark was to tired to swim out and kept washing back up to shore kinda ended our sand dollar searching.

Annie L.

Yelp
I love this beach. It almost rarely EVER rains even though the weather channel always says it will. My bestie has a house on the beach so we get to go every year to this area. Love it!!!! It's a "small town" sort of vibe, but totally worth the drive. You won't have a problem with finding space on the beach to claim.

Jack S.

Yelp
It is absolutely beautiful, the perfect beach- dunes, pines, water. I live 1 mile from the beach at home (Marco Is.), and it can't hold a candle to SGI. But please don't tell anyone.

Matthew M.

Yelp
Amazing Island, and an amazing park. The facilties here are fantastic. Clean restrooms and hot showers are so important, and this campground has them both. The sites are similiar sizes to most in the state park system. Site 11 is great due to shrubbery on both sides, seperating yourself from the other sites. In addition, it is right near the restrooms and shower. A short walk to the beach, but it may be long for the kiddies and your gear. If you are planning on hitting up the restaurants in the area, it is about a 8-9 mile bike ride, so be prepared. The beaches in the park are awesome and not too crowded. The only things out early in the morning on the beach are runners and crazy crabs! I would rate this a 5, but not too happy with some of the bumber stickers on the campground hosts vehicle that many would find offensive.

C W.

Yelp
We stopped here for a quick overnight, which I would not recommend. It is out of the way and my AT&T cell service did not work. However, even on a quick stop I could tell that what were negatives for a quick stop could be positives for a longer visit. If you want to feel remote, enjoy wildlife, walk essentially alone on a beautiful beach, or kayak and explore the preserved shoreline, this is a great park. Bathrooms were adequate but not spotless. Some campsites were sandy and required leveling.

Rachel L.

Yelp
Bring your "Deep woods off" because the maskeeters are out for blood!
