Fish Stew in Chinatown, Roman Pizza on St-Zotique, and Other Montreal Restaurant Openings in January 2022 | Eater Montreal

"Run by three friends and former bouncers who decided to “reinvent themselves” after repeated coronavirus shutdowns, this cozy Verdun café serves coffee, pastries, and sandwiches in a space furnished with second-hand pieces and invites patrons to leave their mugs to feel at home while lingering in the space." - Valerie Silva

What a beautiful and vibrant coffeeshop! The decor and design of this place is stunning. If you like the old stuff, and want to go through the nostalgia, this place gives you that love. The staff are awesome and passionate about their shop. All their food is homemade. We tried a cup of cappuccino, a cup of latte and a heartwarming tiropita. All simply delicious. I can’t wait to come back here again.

I walked into Saint JJH & Café today and felt instantly at home — it’s genuinely one of the warmest, coziest family-run spots in Verdun. The retro, antique-inspired decor — soft lighting, plush seating, and vintage touches — makes the café feel like a dear friend’s living room. I treated myself to their baked goods, and oh my — the apple pie was nothing short of heavenly, with a perfectly balanced sweetness and a tender, flaky crust. The banana cake was moist, fragrant, and had that perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture that serious cake lovers dream of. I paired them with an oat-milk latte, and it was so smooth and comforting — just the right warmth, the right froth, and just enough subtle sweetness. Truly felt like the perfect cozy pick-me-up. But what made the visit extra special was getting to chat with the owners, the husband-and-wife team, and especially Yanna. She welcomed me like a long-lost friend — genuine warmth, passion for her café, and so much heart. It felt like more than just a business, it’s a real community hub. If you’re looking for a place where the coffee is excellent, the pastries feel made with love, and the vibe is homey and welcoming — Saint JJH & Café is a must-visit. I’m already planning my next trip back.

Disappointing Lack of Manners at Saint JJH & Cafe Our visit to Saint JJH & Cafe was memorable, but unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. The atmosphere had potential, but the behavior of the staff completely overshadowed any positives. The most glaring issue was the complete absence of basic manners from every single staff member we interacted with. Not once did anyone acknowledge our group when we said, “thank you.” It’s shocking to experience such a lack of courtesy in what is supposed to be a hospitality-focused environment. It left us feeling ignored and undervalued as customers. Service was not only inattentive but felt robotic and cold. None of the staff displayed any warmth or professionalism, and it was clear they weren’t trained on how to engage with customers properly. It’s one thing to have a bad day, but for the entire team to neglect something as simple as responding to a thank-you? That’s a cultural problem within the establishment. While the food and drinks were passable, they couldn’t compensate for the poor service and lack of manners. Saint JJH & Cafe has potential, but until they prioritize training their staff on even the most basic of courtesies, I can’t recommend this place to anyone. Concept & decor were the only things that were noticed however would have felt more enjoyable with fun, professional, attentive service, or a simple “you’re welcome” as a response from any staff.

Absolutely loved this spot easily one of the most beautiful coffee shops I’ve ever visited! I had a cappuccino and a spanakopita-style stuffed pastry, and it was absolutely delicious. The staff were incredibly kind, professional, and really knew their menu. Highly recommend checking this place out!

We found out about this place from someone else's video on TikTok and knew we had to go. I was afraid that it would be all looks and no substance but boy was I wrong. The ambiance/decor of course were great but what really pushed it over for us were the extremely friendly staff and the great selection of food and drinks. (I was surprised honestly compared to what is usually on offer in local cafés) Speaking of, the food was fantastic. I went with a savory brunch crêpe, regular drip coffee and homemade lemonade and everything was perfect. Will not only go back, but will make sure all of my friends know about it!

I have been frequenting this coffee shop for over a year, and it is my number one spot in the city. I drive one hour to meet up with friends and enjoy delicious coffee, relaxing atmosphere, chill music, and the best cheesecakes around. One of the owners is absolutely the sweetest human and makes us feel like family every time we are there❤️ My only wish is that I lived closer to this little gem. A truly unique and special place indeed.

Google
My favourite cafe. There’s so much care that goes into this place. Every time I pass by, the owner is always hard at work; either taking care of her plants, cleaning the tables, she clearly loves her cafe. And it’s felt throughout the space. It’s refreshing to have a place in the neighborhood that serves fresh, in house foods. I tried their salmon toast for breakfast today and I’ll be returning for it. Everything about it is delicious. I’d even eat the salad on its own. The French, blonde woman and the man employees are always welcoming and caring. It was a lovely way to start the day. I also often order their hot chocolates - the owner always nails them!

Yelp
A new cafe opened its doors this week. A true hidden gem in Verdun. They offer hot beverages, sandwiches and baked goods. The true wow-factor as soon as you walk in, Art Deco style leaving good vibes and so much warmth. A taste of 'central perk' the cafe from 'Friends' with a touch of colourful couches and humorous wall-art. The perfect ingredients to make you feel at home. Their latte and hot chocolate were as heart warming as the owners ans staff. good. They also offer sandwiches and baked goods. I would definitely come back soon. Check them out when you are in hood and grab a cup!

Yelp
Such an adorable cafe with a unique personality. An eclectic variety of reconditioned furniture and groovy hand-built decor means that wherever you sit, it looks and feels like a different experience. Makes other local cafes feel like clinics by comparison. Add to all that the friendliest owners and employees you could ask for and excellent lattes.
