Saint Kate - The Arts Hotel

"Why book?Art hotels can feel unwelcoming, with collections meant to be examined in silent contemplation. But Milwaukee's Saint Kate is not that. Contemporary art is spread through common and private spaces in a way that coaxes you to stay, have a drink, and strike up a conversation about something you may not totally understand, preferably while listening to a live trio in the lobby. A stay here will immerse you in art that will, at turns, challenge you and bring a smile to your face. All of it may just make for the coolest hotel in the state of Wisconsin. Set the scene:Though there are longer term plans to have an art installation outside, right now the exterior could fit right in with some of the banks and professional buildings nearby, save for one sign that indicates you're about to enter a unique space. In fact, it is the sign: an enormous marquee towering over the entry that brings to mind the glory years of America's first movie palaces. Inside, recent arrivals are greeted with glasses of Champagne, a killer soundtrack (N.E.R.D., Dr. Dog, Stevie Wonder b-sides) and, most prominently, Deborah Butterfield's enormous horse sculpture—the first of an almost uncountable number of remarkable works that define the hotel. The backstory:The Saint Kate is part of the Marcus Hotels & Resorts, but is a singular hotel. The former Intercontinental was snapped up to become a beacon for the arts in Milwaukee. Greg and Linda Marcus have been longtime lovers and patrons of the arts in the city (Linda is an artist herself), and they wanted a venue that didn’t just claim its artistic bona fides through a single muraled wall or handful of pieces near the check-in desk. Linda began collecting pieces from both local and internationally known artists, like Chihuly and Rauschenberg, before she was even sure how they would fit into the space. Slowly though, the flow of the permanent collection took shape. In addition, the hotel set up gallery and theater spaces to showcase rotating exhibits from artists plucked from all over the world. But while the visual arts are impossible to miss, Greg Marcus wanted this particular arts hotel to be multi-disciplinary. Music is almost as omnipresent as the work mounted on the walls with live performances every night of the week, and the hotel's impressive and eclectic record collection at your service with record players in every room. Though live theater is still coming back online after the pandemic, a dedicated black box will be home to plays and comedy shows. The hotel is a home for art, broadly defined. The rooms:The collection spreads to every inch of the rooms—not just to the images on the walls (which Linda will enthusiastically tell you, were selected not to be “hotel art”), but to the custom printed lampshades, the Todd Mrozinski mural in the closet, and, my favorite, the shower tiles with designs carved by Linda Lindner. Even the bag for the hairdryer is a work of art. As for how the rooms themselves function, they're smartly laid out, putting the space where you need it most, which is important since some of them can run a little tight. But the glassed-in showers are big enough to lay down in; and rooms with separate sitting areas, which here are not just reserved for suites, have the feeling of an apartment. No discussion of the rooms would be complete without mention of the Canvas Rooms, a selection of spaces turned entirely over to individual artists to do with as they please. They are more immersive experiences that will range from the calming to the frenetic (see: Lon Michels' Leopard Room), but remain spaces where you can actually sleep in a work of art. They'll change out every 18 months or so. Food and drink:On the lobby level you’ll find Proof, a Neapolitan pizza joint that not only serves as the fast-casual option for the hotel, but as a welcome addition to the city’s larger pizza scene, with a regular stream of boxes filled with sausage, broccoli, and burrata pies headed out the door to locals. It’s also where you’ll find the wraparound bar, a buzzy multi-generational scene with a short but potent list of house cocktails, like a Manhattan riff punched up with cherry liqueur made with Door County cherries. Upstairs, the recently opened Aria serves an upscale ode to the heartland and the Wisconsin supper club. Chicken and dumplings that executive chef Paul Funk has been perfecting for years; a pitch-perfect broast-ish chicken (named as it is to avoid ending up on the wrong side of Big broasting); and a bread course of housemade pretzel chips served with a magnificent fruited cheese spread. Before or after a meal at Aria, swing by the attached Giggly, the only Champagne bar in Milwaukee. The neighborhood:Milwaukee is a city that always gets short shrift to Chicago for...reasons, I guess. But it is flush with often unappreciated energy and culture. The Saint Kate sits, appropriately for an arts hotel, smack in the center of two of the performing arts venues that anchor the city, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater and the Pabst, neither of which is more than a two-minute walk from the hotel door. As more shows are added to the schedule through 2021 and into 2022, the staff will be happy to recommend one. The picturesque riverwalk is an easy three blocks away, where you can stroll the water or rent a kayak, and the Third Ward (and its breweries, bars, and restaurants) is 15 minutes away on foot. If you’re ever at a loss for something to do, however, every room comes with a pocket-sized book full of Milwaukee recommendations, from jazz clubs to diners to museums big and small. The service:There is a Wisconsin Nice (sorry Minnesota, you don’t get to claim it all for yourself) to everyone you encounter at the Saint Kate, but don’t think this crew is some golly-shucks Midwest stereotype. They understand the unique space that they’re in and they seem to love it. They are more than happy to talk art with you—curator Sam Timm will even take you on a guided tour of the collection—or recommend some choice Milwaukee activities. For families:There isn't one specific item that illustrates the fact that this is a family-friendly hotel. But the fact that a place with this many valuable works of art on display is welcoming to families at all may come as a surprise (it's also pet-friendly, and I saw more than one golden retriever walking through the lobby during my visit). But it is. There is no hall monitor tailing kids to tell them to stop running, and the tweens I saw milling around both in the lobby and in the halls were quite comfortable being themselves. Anything left to mention? The single most appealing aspect of the Saint Kate is the way it surprises you around every corner. So many works are hiding in plain site, like Charity White's lifelike sculptures of a widow and her middle-aged son that I kept thinking were two people having dinner next to me, or Jessica Meuninck-Granger's expansive graphic work that can only be seen from the landing on the walk up to Aria, or the painting on the underside of a coffee table reflected in a mirror below. It can feel a bit like scavenger hunt in the best way." - Noah Kaufman

From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by stunning, thought-provoking artwork everywhere you turn. The atmosphere is alive with creativity, and the people who work there are just as warm and unique as the art itself. They make you feel like you’re part of the community, not just a guest. I had the pleasure of painting a live wedding while at Saint Kate, and it was an unforgettable experience. Being immersed in such a creative environment elevated the whole event, the energy, the colors, and the art all around inspired every brushstroke! I’ve heard incredible things about their different themed rooms and can’t wait to book a stay in the future. If you love art, connection, and a one-of-a-kind vibe, Saint Kate isn’t just a hotel… it’s an experience you’ll carry with you!

My second visit to this truly spectacular place! There are a very few, very special hotels out there -almost like people - with their own charm and character and personality. The Saint Kate is your fabulous, gorgeous, kind, wildly-creative friend with amazing style and a heart-felt smile for everyone, who manages to make you feel special just by proximity. Thanks again, SK, for a memorable visit, outrageous art, a delightful room, divinely unique detail, crazy comfy bed, fantastic lounge music and delicious food. A special shout out to Clay, the truly gracious and hospitable day bartender whose warmth, welcome and insights on the city truly made our stay. What a great representative of your brand! Thanks also to Grace and the super-on-top-of-everything front desk (Madelyn, Ava, Theo and team) for a superlative stay. Look forward to seeing y’all next year!

We love The Saint Kate. The hotel staff is always friendly. The rooms are spacious, well appointed and clean. |There is always something happening in the lobby bar for entertainment. Even with this it is always quiet in the room. |The complementary coffee bar and water station on each floor with quality Keurig pods and tea options is great. It frees up space in the room. |The hotel’s location in the city cannot be beat. You are within walking distance to many great dining and entertainment options.

We met Jackie at the front desk when we checked in. We were immediately welcomed and given an overview of all the amenities available to us at the hotel. One of my colleagues had an issue with his room and Jackie immediately solved the issue and accommodated him to a new room that was his recommended favorite art inspired room. We were all able to convene in this room and enjoy the music theme taking pictures, playing guitar and piano and it made our experience once-in-a-lifetime. This would not have happened without Jackie’s kindness and hospitality. As someone who works in hospitality, I can tell those who love hospitality as much as I do. I could tell this is Jackie’s career because they really do love it. To be able to give amazing customer service at 2 am, when no one is watching, takes passion that very few have.

Google
obsessed is an understatement. Ive stayed at a lot of five star four seasons style hotels and believe it or not this hotel beats them all. From the design details that I'm still gushing over...to the amazing food options all over the hotel...it was incredible. The rooms were spotless ..every floor had a cold water and coffee station which helped a ton as someone traveling from Colorado and drinks a lot of water. The staff was excellent. Amazing location next to the river. Our room view was incredible. Absolutely perfect stay here. If you're considering any hotel in Milwaukee, let it only be this one.

The front desk people are great! Very professional and helpful when we needed to change our reservation after Amtrak cancelled our train. In particular Mr. Stalin and Ms. Danielle made the changes and check-in easy and friendly. ||This is distinctive and enjoyable hotel. The art gallery is an elegant and interesting change of pace from cookie-cutter lobbies at chains. Service was perfect.

Google
Absolutely exceptional experience all around at the Saint Kate!!! It was our first time staying here and their attention to detail was fantastic. It was my birthday and I requested a room upgrade with a view if possible when I booked the room--they certainly delivered! We got a quiet, spacious corner king suite with lovely city views, plus they gifted us a bottle of champagne and a handwritten happy birthday note. I loved that they followed up via text to see if we were happy with everything. Our safe didn't work and we reached out via text--it was fixed within 20 minutes. We requested a second bathrobe via text--it was there within 20 minutes. All staff were thoughtful and kind and attentive. We'll return in a heartbeat!!!

Great location near the arts district. Rooms were clean and well accommodated with artful touches and working record player. Very near the convention center maybe 5 min walk. Hotel bar is great and is connected to an artisan pizza place. Try the chopped salad or the wings. Or course they have the spotted cow in tap. Free coffee every morning via k-cup in the hallway any time of the day.

Yelp
Saint Kate doesn't have art, Saint Kate is art. Spend some time in the lobby and at The Bar. Walk through the galleries. Read the literature in your room about which artists you're "sleeping with." Explore the whole hotel. After just one stay I can say this is my all-time favorite hotel. I love art and luxury stays so it's a no-brainer. There are a couple of options for food. Downstairs you'll find pizza, salads, and burrata... all delicious. Upstairs there's a sit down restaurant with great views and equally great food (highly recommend the French Toast with caramelized bananas). Everyone at Saint Kate is so friendly. The champagne check-in starts the stay right. Getting back late at night, the pizza place was supposed to close in less than 10 minutes but they were still taking orders and doing it with a genuine smile. As we were leaving, we were talking to a staff member that was cleaning and she gave me an extra bar of their eraser soap! Saint Kate lives, eats, and breathes the Unreasonable Hospitality lifestyle and because of it I will always recommend them to anyone staying in the Milwaukee area.

Yelp
The lobby is amazing, so beautiful and clean. Check in was quick and easy, very attentive front desk staff. We checked into our room which was a Superior King, HIgh Floor. This was supposed to be one of the best rooms in the hotel. The room was on the 10th floor, but once we entered the room we noticed it was fairly small. The full sized sofa sleeper, if used, would completely fill that room. The bathroom was small and the shower needed a good cleaning. Hair on the floor, some mold in the corners. The bed area had a nice area to hang clothes, but not much storage area for clothing, just 2 small night stand drawers. We found items left by the prior guests on the floor, overall the room seemed to have done a quick turnover. Change the sheets, towels, wipe a few things down and move on to the next. The view, which was supposed to be "amazing" was basically overlooking a rooftop. The biggest issue was the noise, the walls are superthin, you can easily hear everything being said in the next room. And since we were placed next to a family with small children, we were woke up at 5:30 am to screaming children and slamming doors. While this is a very nice art hotel, with the public areas being very updated and clean. The rooms need an upgrade, especially for $300 a night.

Yelp
4.5. Delightfully whimsical hotel with exceptional service at every level. Everyone was super helpful and sweet. Room decor was unique and lovely. Highly recommend. Can't overstate the whimsical touches. The ukulele. The record player. The artist in residence (on our visit, Anwar, who was especially welcoming). Not giving an unqualified five stars unless and until I get to crack a window and get some fresh air. *crosses arms*

Yelp
We'd heard lots about St Kate and we turned a day at the ballpark into a date night in the city. The glass of champagne when we checked in was perfect after a hot day at AmFam, a little Wynton Marsalis on the record player was great while we were getting ready. When we returned from dinner out, we grabbed a seat at the bar for a nightcap. That turned into 2 hours. The band was so good - Suga Blu - we couldn't leave! More champagne and ... wow! Thanks St Kate!

Yelp
Upon arriving at Saint Kate on a Friday, the valet team was super great and went out of their way for us. Employees were friendly. We loved that the hotel was art-based. The room was comfortable and clean. My husband didn't sleep well though because of the noisy seagulls. We were on the south side of the 9th floor with a view of the "courtyard dome" and the seagulls made constant screaming and screeching noises from sundown to sun up. Next time we would book a different room so we would not encounter that issue.

Steven W.

Yelp
I booked this place on a wim.. I pulled into the parking garage (there is valet service and it seems to be worth it) and walked into the entrance. Immediately I could tell this wasn't an average hotel. Think of a art museum, bar, live music, AND a hotel in one. The complimentary champagne and records foe the record player IN YOUR ROOM are a tremendous touch. Stay in a canvas room to feel like you're staying in an artist's mind. There is musical instruments, art, a record player, and a hot HOT shower. The customer service at the front desk (shout out to Michael!) Is exemplary! I'd give this 6 stars if I could.

Yelp
I can't even!!! One of the coolest blow my mind hotels I've stayed at in my lifetime, and I've lived in NYC and Europe! Everything has been touched by an artist all the way down to our soap in our room at the sink that looks like a grammar school eraser! Just fun and I have to say the food is delicious. Fantastic breakfast, try the pancetta egg cups. The pizza on site is outstanding and there's music every evening in the lobby. The staff offered us champagne. The second we checked in and their gift shop is like going to the gift shop in New York City. I cannot say enough. Be prepared to constantly be surprised Ps: TALENTED CEO plays in a jazz group Tuesday Happy hours. #visionary

Yelp
Our new favorite hotel in Milwaukee! Everything was fun. The staff was friendly and helpful and everywhere. We'll be back.

Yelp
Hello Kate team, I would like to take a minute to thank you for Wonder customer service. From the moment we pulled up in our taxi. You were awesome. The front desk attendant Danielle was a pleasure to speak with she greeted up with a smile got us all checked in offered a glass of bubbly and gummy bears for the little one and had great suggestions on things to do while here. She also acknowledged my mom's 66th birthday. We returned to our room with a complementary bottle of bubbly she was over the moon. Room service was outstanding, and the checkout was effortless. I find myself staying at hotels quite often, so I have stories to tell, lol. But this is an experience I truly don't mind telling. Thanks again for such an AWESOME experience. 5 stars

Yelp
I'll start off on a positive note, the pizza is absolutely amazing, you won't find better pizza anywhere else I can guarantee that! The drink was also amazing, as I love a good mezcal drink! However when I got to the bar the bartender didn't even acknowledge me and was working right infront of me for a few minutes. I then waited and asked her if I could order I ordered my drink then wanted to order pizza. I was sitting at the table so she said she would have someone come over and take my order, but I watched her she never asked anyone and the servers passed me multiple times. I then had to go up from the bar and leave my Mac and ask for my order to be taken which she then took at the bar. The food did come out quickly which was good. I would recommend this place but they definitely need to step up their service just a bit. Ok so I came back and I'm changing my review. I wrote this in the middle of me being there. I did give it 4 stars but I'm now giving it 2. The service was just that bad I'm sorry. I've bartended for quite some time and even I know the basic bartender etiquette I was just very disappointed leaving here.

Yelp
This place is IMMACULATE! Such a cozy, quaint and vibrant place. From the moment we arrived with a complimentary glass of champagne, to the bustling bar, to the artsy room and our wonderful brunch at the Aria! The staff is charming, helpful and accommodating! We really enjoyed relaxing in the room while finding little artsy trinkets scattered around. We also loved that the parking garage was attached and apparently had Tesla chargers. We didn't find them because we grabbed a big spot in the tight garage but if you ask the hotel I'm sure they can advise on what level the chargers are on. Another piece of charm is the record players in each room equipped with a few records or go to the lobby and they have others you can pick from! So cool! We plan to come back in the winter with our daughter because attached to the hotel is the theater that means no stepping outside in the cold, hauling a cab because its fully connected! Thank you Saint Kate for such a unique and unforgettable experience! We can't wait to come back

Yelp
I would give this hotel a solid 4 Stars We stayed here for a few nights while traveling to Milwaukee to see some Brewers games. I really enjoyed my stay here and what it had to offer. We booked the Premier 2 Queens High Floor The rooms were a good size and the beds were comfortable. The pillows were meh but the comfortable bed made up for it. I appreciated the attention to detail in the room: the fun tile artwork in the shower, the eraser shaped soap, the self-serve coffee bar right outside the elevator on our floor, etc. I enjoyed their was a ukulele and record player in the room. We took advantage of the music they let us borrow. The showers had good water pressure and the hotels soaps/shampoos smelled great. The bar downstairs was a great place to hang out at night. It was poppin' every night with a fun/younger but mature crowd. Fun to people watch and talk to the locals. The hotel was located in a good area of town. Lots of bars and food spots to eat at within walking distance. A Starbucks was located directly across the street if you are one of those people who book hotels based on how close a coffee shop is. They offer 3 different eating spots in the restaurant. We didn't eat at any but it seemed popular when we walked by. My only negatives: 1. They don't have a shuttle service to the airport. You are forced to taxi/Uber/Lyft to and from, which I found pretty inconvenient. 2. It was a little annoying parking was $30 a day. Always a pet peeve when there's no free parking at the hotel AND it's expensive. 3. The hotel wasn't very close to the stadium so we had to Uber or hitch a ride to the game. And again, no shuttle service to the game. The stadium was only a few miles away, and again, pretty annoying they wouldn't offer this simple service. I would have given 5 stars to this hotel if they offered a shuttle service to the airport or stadium. Because they didn't, it was inconvenient to have to try to Uber everywhere. Especially in such a small/big town.

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL staycation only 90mins from Chicago! @saintkatearts Saint Kate - The Arts Hotel is located right in the heart of Milwaukee downtown so you can drive or take the bus/train from Chicago and it's only 90mins! There are 3 restaurants and bars, 6 art galleries, live music every night, a 24 hour gym, and beautiful yet affordable rooms filled with a record player, ukulele, custom art work, and luxurious decor. (Sponsored) Biggest highlights: Ate at ARIA - got bone marrow, pan seared duck breast, an amazingly tender long bone short rib pastrami (must order), house-made chicken dumpling soup Went to see @milwaukeeballet - my friend is in it and wow their hunchback of Notre Dame was AMAZING. Next show will be Peter Pan in May Trying the Peloton for the first time at the 24hr gym Meeting cool people visiting from all around Midwest and witnessing everyone having a BLAST in the bar, at various restaurants, and at the coffee bar/elevator in passing Picking out different records in the lobby to bring up and listen to in the room Honestly just sitting in their bathrobe on the king-sized bed, eating their snacks, getting room service, and watching TV Walking to @milwaukeepublicmarket and grabbing $25 king crab legs & delicious lobster roll + clam chowder @stpaulsfishcompany their service is amazing and the people are so nice!

Yelp
I loved my stay at the Saint Kate! I thought the hotel was beautiful, the rooms were thoughtful, everything was super clean, and the beds were super comfortable. I also loved that you didn't hear every single other room while you are trying to sleep at night. They have some great sound proofing at this hotel!! The welcome sparkling wine was great at check-in and the front desk staff was quite friendly. I appreciated the texts following up during my stay. When I arrived I immediately went to the parking garage (super easy to find and entrances on two sides of the hotel). They might actually have valet as well, but I didn't see any info about that prior to arriving. Parking in the garage is super easy. The first time you grab the ticket, but then you give that ticket to the front desk staff and they send you a QR code to get in and out of the garage during your stay. That way the parking is just charged directly to your room. I loved how on every floor they had a coffee machine and a cold water station. That water station probably costs them so little and is such a nice touch. I stayed in one of the studio rooms and it was perfect. As mentioned above the bed was comfortable, there was a huge TV, a great desk setup, and a huge beautiful window looking out over the city. The art touches throughout the room are so thoughtful and pretty. I even loved the hand soap in the bathroom being in the shape of an old school eraser. Fun touches like that! I also dined at Giggly while I was there which was a great experience. Overall I would certainly stay at the Saint Kate again!

Yelp
Came here for a work trip. Had a training here and also stayed in the hotel. The hotel itself is amazing. Have never stayed in a place as quirky and swanky as this before. Champagne and/or M&Ms are offered upon check-in, to paint a nice picture. Each level has a Keurig machine to have coffee/tea or drinkable water. Each room is also equipped with a few vinyls and a record player. Granted, the sound quality is quite poor given the brand, but it's a great touch. Even the face soap is art-infused in the shape of a pink eraser. The location was also nice as it was surrounded by quite a few restaurants and it's nicely located next to the nearby university, work buildings, the river, and not too far from a nearby park and the lake. Great hotel with arts venues and I had a bartender make me one of the best mocktails I've ever had in my life. Superb service.

Yelp
Booked a room for a staycation. Check in experience was a delight (champagne?! Yes!), the room was comfy and clever. Music and art everywhere- so wonderful.

Steven S.

Yelp
They have a so called fine dining restaurant in the hotel, called Aria. The worst service I have ever had. We had reservations but they didn't honor them. We had to sit for almost one hour in the bar area so we finally ordered our food. So frustrating. Then the food was nasty. Not good at all. Beef stroganoff had very little beef and a flavorless gravy. The servers and hostess in this "fine dining" restaurant wore blue jeans and the hostess had stains on her shirt. Stay away from this place unless you want to go hungry waiting on the crap food. Don't waste your money. Thery overbook. Pure greed.

Yelp
A friend and I went to a musical across the street and stopped for a drink and a late lunch. It was delicious! The waitress was kind and helpful. The Donna Woodall trio was playing. It made for a perfect night.

Yelp
Stayed here for a work conference and I loved it! The staff offered such friendly welcomes. The pizza from the shop downstairs was yummy. The hotel room was so cute with the mini guitar and record player and the eraser shaped soap . Also if you're in the area, contact Walnut Way to see if they can give a tour of the awesome work that they're doing in the Triangle North area.

Yelp
Second time staying here while in Milwaukee. I really enjoyed this hotel so I recommended this location for our girls trip. Overall it's a really nice place to stay. The check in process is pretty efficient and the rooms are comfortable and clean. A glass of champagne at check in is a nice gesture. However on this stay, on Saturday, May 6 we were abruptly disturbed by an emergency alarm over the speaker in our room. When I called down to the front desk, we were told it was a false alarm. Then for another 45 minutes, there was an annoying fuzzy sound coming from the speaker that was very disruptive to our relaxing morning. Because of this, we decided to leave from the hotel early. At check out, I voiced my disappointment over this incident and was given the standard "sorry for the inconvenience". I asked for the $30 parking fee to be comped for this issue and was told only $15 can be removed. This was such a bizarre situation and unfortunately disappointed by their handling of it.

David B.

Yelp
Man what a gorgeous hotel and in a great location as well. In town to catch a concert at the Pabst (it's literally adjacent to the hotel and an indoor walk). Check in was very quick and a complimentary champagne to walk to your room - cool touch. Very artsy inside and especially in the rooms. Rooms were very modern and funky but not overly so. Can't wait to stay again. Great property. **oh, parking is underneath the hotel so it's real easy.
google avatar

Chandrika R.

Yelp
My mom and I stayed here before going to the Pink concert. The hotel is beautiful and well located. The food was great and we had a credit for breakfast that came with my booking. The beds were super comfortable! My only criticism is that the age of the hotel shows a bit in the bathrooms. Everything was clean, but def could use a little updating. We did have a lovely visit though!

Yelp
I know this building well. I used to work in the Wyndham that was there in the 90's. Then it became the Intercontinental and now...well it's an amazing hotel with art and service that is superb. The owners have done an amazing job in establishing a classy and sophisticated hotel in the middle of Milwaukee. Located near the Riverwalk, close to very good restaurants and businesses. The room was spacious, designed with special touch and we were taken very good care of. As Expedia members you get a voucher for the restaurant or bar. I highly recommend the pizza place (see my review for "Proof Pizza"). For all my future visits to my old "home town", will definitely stay here.

Yelp
I left with tears of joy and a bag of gummy bears. It does not get better than that! My sleep was terrific. The soap/shampoo left me feeling awesome. (It was better than my go-to wash I brought. And I got to practice ukulele. My exit started with an elevator ride with the most lovely of lovely head bellmen, (Whom I'm remembering also helped me when I arrived navigate an easy path to work.) He then instructed his valet with the most respect and kindness. I checked out at the front desk. A lady with shorter red hair and a dark-haired gentleman were so kind, intuitive, and welcoming it brought me to tears. I was struck by the interaction and their warmth. (So, now I'm in tears...and needed to take a second to take it all in and appreciate the moment.) When I walked outside, I was super surprised to see the valet was still at my drivers' door ready to help me into my truck. He made sure I had everything I needed. This service was crazy for the room rate. I will be traveling back with my husband.

Yelp
I recently stayed at the Saint Kate while in Milwaukee for work. The vibe is artsy/eclectic. There is art and art gallery spaces throughout the hotel, including in the rooms. The art is very interesting and makes for enjoyable strolls around the hotel property. The rooms are plenty comfortable and have plenty of space. My room had a living room area that was separated from the bedroom. The rooms are well appointed and include a record player, records, and a ukelele in the room. The bed was super comfy. The walk-in shower was nice and even had a little corner footrest for leg shaving (extra points for that!). The hotel staff were all super friendly and helpful. There are a couple of interesting bar and lounge spaces in the hotel, one even had live music one night I was there. The reason for the 4 star review instead of 5 star is for two reasons 1) there are no drawers/shelves in the bedroom or bathroom area to put clothes that do not need to be hung up. There is no real space in the bathroom area for toiletries other than right on top of the counter which makes things very crowded. It's sort of a sparse Norwegian sort of feel. It looks cool but it's impractical! 2) there are no coffee makers in the room. You have to walk to the elevator area to the communal coffee machine to get a cup of coffee. I don't want to walk down the hall in my Jammies in search of Java and run into strangers and have to make awkward conversation while waiting for the coffee machine. It's an interesting hotel and it's in a perfect location downtown. I would definitely stay there again.

Yelp
By far the BEST brunch in MKE. The food is amazing, service is impeccable. I dream of my eggs and potatoes, who would have to thought?? Chicken and waffles is delicious, too. To top it off, there is a live DJ with some of the best hits you've heard. It's boujee and unique, yet laid back. And they have bottomless brunch! 10/10!! I love walking around the hotel and experiencing the fantastic art displays. This place is a gem! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful! The staff is amazing! Especially Ania ar the front desk and most helpful concierge Mathew who gave us great directions, remembered my friends wedding was the event and they just made everything so special. Not to mention the food was out of this world in both the bar and Aria. I can't recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Saint Kate is truly one of a kind. We stayed here for the Memorial Day weekend. We had an amazing stay filled with relaxation and artistic leisure. What sets Saint Kate apart from other hotels is their focus on the arts. Upon entering Saint Kate, your'e met with the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA DTN) housed near the lobby. MOWA DTN is free to the public with rotating exhibits featuring a mix of known and up and coming artists. Further in at the lobby, we were given a complementary glass of champagne. To the right of the check in desk, they have a small store with Jeff Koons-esque balloon animal banks, signature pink erase bar soap made by Niki Johnson (which I absolutely love), coloring books and a myriad of other cool stuff for sale. There was a flurry of activity when we checked in. We saw two weddings that evening. Once we got to our room, we settled in and checked out the digs. While hubby was relaxing on the bed watching TV, I was plenty distracted in a good way! I saw a red ukulele in the corner of our bedroom and at first thought it was a decorative piece. As soon as I picked it up and found out it functioned, I forced myself to learn the hook to Dueling Banjos. It was silly but simple fun. After my musical moment, I moved over to the TV shelf and perused through the vinyl records and books featuring past and current artists. I took a record and went off to the living room to play it on their Bluetooth record player. YaY! More fun. More relaxation. It's these extra amenities plus a drawing station included in your hotel stay that sets this hotel in a class of its own. Plus, Saint Kate is within walking distance to many tourist spots like Milwaukee City Hall and the Riverwalk. I would recommend purchasing your stay with parking. It's $30 with underground parking attached to the hotel. The $30 fee provides you with unlimited in and out privileges; great for us since we enjoy exploring the city not only on foot but by car too. The beds were firm but comfortable. I love their shower and want one just like it for our home! The digs are modern, service all around was friendly and the hotel is in a prime location. They have a pretty bar complete with music entertainment at night. There are several dining options on site if you wish to stay within the grounds. My last tip worth mentioning is that you can swap out the records from your guest room and pick up a new set found to the left of the check in desk. They have an ample amount of vinyl separated by category to choose from. Given all the bells and whistles, is it a pricey hotel? Yes, but it's worth it for the occasional getaway.

Yelp
This is an outstanding hotel. I plan to stay here the next time I'm in Milwaukee. First you are greeted with a glass of champagne when you check in. I loved the bar and the two eating area on the second floor. The artwork throughout was gorgeous. I loved my room EXCEPT there was no overhead lighting in the sleeping area and I could hear the conversation of the people above me when I was in the bathroom.

Yelp
Amazing hotel. They give great recommendations and better room service. Definitely worth going here at least once.

Yelp
Saint Kate is a cool hotel spot. Decided to get away from Chicago for a night and headed to Milwaukee. Saint Kate is a beautiful hotel. We were greeted with champagne and our room ready early. The coolest part of this hotel is that it has tons of art all over. We got to our room, that had a ukulele and record player in it. Only downfall is our room was near the elevator so we did hear some noise from people in the hall and I did hear the elevator going up and down all night long. We went out did our sightseeing came back and hung out in the bar/lounge area. They had live music which was fantastic! We did order a pizza and drinks. Service was a bit slower but hey I'm not in Chicago anymore where I'm used to fast service. Plus it gave us time to enjoy the art, music and the company. This morning we went down had our breakfast In the same lounge area which was a fantastic breakfast. We did run into a problem with the bathroom this morning. Both the shower and sink backed up and we're not draining. So that was a tad sad ending to our trip. Didn't like standing in a pool of water nor looking at the backed up sink water. We did alert the staff, they said that was strange someone else on another floor had the same issue. So hopefully that doesn't happen to anyone else during their stays.

Yelp
St Kate is amazing!! The hotel is beautiful but the staff goes above and beyond. I got married at a different venue and my mother's and my now husband's cars were both stolen with all of our luggage and my purse. It was a very stressful situation to say the least. The staff at Saint Kate made all the difference with their empathetic and positive attitudes. They saved my Wedding day and made all the difference. They ensured we had everything we needed, and checked on us to make sure that we were ok. I have never had such a positive experience from a hotel. I can't say enough how thankful I am I stayed with them. I plan to stay there every anniversary from here on out. Thank you! I appreciate the wonderful experience you have given me!!

Yelp
We drove up to Milwaukee from Chicago for a quick one night stay at Saint Kate and had a lovely time. Truth in advertising certainly applies here, as there are arts aplenty. Several gallery rooms on the first floor had photography and mixed media exhibits, with additional paintings and exhibits along the corridors of the second floor. There is also artwork scattered throughout the upper floors and of course in the rooms. The artwork is all contemporary and of very high quality. Definitely set aside some time to explore the exhibits while you are here. The rooms are good sized and comfortable; one of the king rooms, a basic model, has a comfortable couch which apparently doubles as a pull out bed. All rooms have a turntable and a ukulele. I did not test out the turntable but I did enjoy badly strumming on the ukulele. You will too. Entertainment options include a lobby bar and a pizza parlor (Proof) on the first floor, and a champagne bar (Giggly) and contemporary American restaurant (ARIA) on the second. There is also a steak restaurant (TDR) hidden on the second floor which is temporarily closed to the public because of COVID. The lobby bar makes excellent cocktails but needs a dedicated bar menu - mixed nuts, olive, charcuterie and cheese, etc. Proof and ARIA were both good, check out my reviews there. We did not have an opportunity to drink in Giggly. One of the better hotels in Milwaukee and definitely worth a stop. Finally, notes on the beds and baths, with a view toward accessibility (I walk with crutches and use a wheelchair for distance): - The beds are reasonably comfortable but on the firm side. They are also very high - merely annoying if you are of a reserved height, but probably unnavigable if you must transfer from a wheelchair. The front desk tells me they can be lowered, though, so call ahead. - Accessible bathrooms are good size and have benches in the shower. I'm also told that most king rooms have walk in showers, if you want to avoid the overtall accessible toilet

Yelp
Saint Kate is in the Theatre District if Milwaukee It has an Artie motif. The room has a record player, with a set of 33's, and a small red guitar. The soap bar s are shaped and colored like pink erasers. Wife and I stayed in a room with two queen beds. The bathroom has two sink areas. Staff is friendly. Lighting in the room is not very good (except bathroom area). Only one small garbage can in the bathroom. Partial roll of toilet paper in bathroom. Nowhere to sit outside front door when waiting to be picked up.

Yelp
My room and stay was good however encountered inconsistent service. Upon checking in the lady was not friendly and did the bare minimum of checking me in. She did not offer the welcome drink nor explain anything about the hotel she didn't even tell me what my room number is I had to look for it on my key holder. Also uppn checkout the house keeper kept banging on my door ar around 9am when checkout is at 12. I expressed to her saying isn't checkout at 12. I'll be out then as I was in town for work and finishing up some work on my laptop. At 1130 she came banging again when I answered to understand what was going on she just sat there looking at me and talking on her cell phone. I do want to say once I checked out the lady that handled me then at the front desk was rather friendly.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay. Great service, great food, the room was awesome. We had a blast and we will definitely be back. We had drinks at the bar and we ate at 2 of the restaurants. Outstanding experience.

Yelp
I love this place. The rooms are great - I love pretending I cAn play the ukulele while while listening to some random vinyls. It's convenient to downtown Milwaukee and it's got a nice bar and small "museum"

Yelp
Saint Kates Arts Hotel is a fantastic date night place. Right from delicious Proof Pizza (the make your own is a fantastic option!) to the beautiful art collections they have in the gallery and around in the lobby of the hotel, I can personally spend hours at this hotel. Best kept secret: Their cocktails in the hotel lobby are excellent and rival a lot of the specialty craft cocktail restaurants in town. Recently I took a Craft Cocktail 101 there and their mixology team is very knowledgeable and helped my group walk through the process of creating yummy drinks. Later a manager emailed us all the recipes so we can recreate them at home too. Really good customer service! They follow all the COVID protocols and made my group feel very safe.

Yelp
I used to thoroughly enjoy delightfully delicious breakfasts, graciously served in Aria. Today, I discovered Aria only serves Brunch on weekends now, and had to settle for Breakfast in the Lobby Lounge. Sitting in rather uncomfortable, badly worn furniture, served food with PLASTIC flatware wrapped in a PAPER napkin! Not what I would even expect at a budget hotel! Most disappointing!

Yelp
I came to the Saint Kate for a sip and paint work outing and had the best time. My company set it up but me and a few coworkers came for the event and ended up staying to walk around and look at the art and for a drink at the lobby bar. Also, the hotel is so aesthetically pleasing, I seriously want to have a staycation! COVID Precautions: There are lanes of traffic, sanitizer, Kleenex, and clear mask requirements for employees and guests.

Yelp
This hotel isn't just luxurious, it's fun! The art decor throughout the hotel makes for a unique experience no matter where you are. The rooms have paper and colored pencils, and a real working turntable that you can play actual albums on. Separate seating area from the bedroom, with beautiful architectural windows. There isn't coffee in the room, but each floor has its own coffee station by the elevators. A truly enjoyable and unique experience very different from the "generic" hotel experience.

Yelp
The St. Kate is a very unique and charming hotel. From the complimentary champagne at check-in to the tasty dining options to the in-house art exhibits hosted by the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) to the various unique elements in the comfortable room, the St. Kate provided a great experience! So, then, why am I giving it 4 stars instead of 5? Well, sadly, we seem to have been paced into the middle of a wedding party's room block...a wedding party that was very loud in the middle of the night. Sure, their loudness isn't the hotel's fault, but I felt that we shouldn't have been placed us or we should've at least been given us a warning or something. That said, I would stay here again. After all, what are the odds that we'd be placed amongst a wedding party's room block again? Any math whizzes out there? Feel free to lmk...and then check out the St. Kate!

Yelp
5 years ago we had our wedding reception at the former Intercontinental hotel. After patiently waiting to visit the new digs, we enjoyed our first stay at Saint Kate last night. Check-in was smooth, the room was clean, the food options were tasty, our floor was quiet, and our view was nice! We really appreciated all of the small touches they added to make us feel extra special. Our record player didn't work, but we knew the hotel was super busy so we decided not to bother them. I definitely recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Milwaukee from out of town or locals like us who are looking for a fun staycation! We wore our masks whenever we were in public areas and felt super safe. Thanks Saint Kate for a fun time!

Yelp
Erika was friendly and so helpful! She went above and beyond to make my friends stay extra special. She hand wrote a note to go with some chocolates and champagne to be placed in their room. If you're looking for outstanding customer service, look no further!!!

Yelp
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Saint Kate a couple of months ago and it exceeded our expectations. This boutique hotel is very unique and charming. It has a beautiful lobby, cocktail bar and restaurant. The rooms were also very unique and tastefully decorated, showcasing a combination of modern amenities and vintage flair. The staff was attentive, and genuinely friendly. The location of the hotel was another standout feature. Situated in a prime area, within walking distance to multiple theaters and many excellent restaurants and cocktail bars. I highly recommend this boutique hotel for anyone seeking a unique and charming experience in a fantastic location.

Yelp
NOT impressed with hotel at all. They must have kept the employees from the Intercontinental because the service was terrible. Save your time calling the front desk because they rarely answer. If they do answer they take forever with your request. I'd suggest an entirely new cleaning staff. I was in my room while the person cleaned my room and she had a full on conversation with someone on the phone using explicit language. She had the conversation as if I wasn't sitting there working. She halfway cleaned my room and left. Valet is overpriced! I'd suggest the Pfister if you want a luxury stay for your money. Stay here at your own risk.

Yelp
The Saint Kate is a charming hotel. We were welcomed by an informative and helpful receptionist and a glass of champagne. The hotel had a bright and refreshing atmosphere, though we didn't get the chance to fully explore the different dining options and gallery spaces. I especially liked the lobby and the dynamic installations in the elevators. Our first night, we ate at the Aria which was delicious and in my opinion, worth the price. We started with the Classic Deviled Eggs and BelGioioso Burrata Salad (which was overdressed, but still good). My partner had the Broast-ish Chicken with green beans and potatoes (everything was cooked perfectly, but it needed a little more salt/seasoning). I had the Honey-Champagne Duck Breast with tree-ripe peaches, sweet corn and feta, which was exceptional: perfectly cooked, tender and well seasoned. Our server was friendly and the service was great, he even gave us the dessert platter on the house. I would totally recommend this restaurant, and the duck breast in particular. The room itself was nice. The shower was spacious and had nice water pressure. The seating area with a record player, choice of vinyls and art books was a homely touch. I did have a few complaints. Firstly, the air conditioning seemed slow to adjust. Secondly, the bed was very firm and the down in the pillows irritated my neck; we did not sleep comfortably during our stay. Lastly, on our second day, we called twice for housekeeping which never came. All in all, this is a nice place and we did enjoy our stay. I would recommend to a friend.

Yelp
The experience we had here was really amazing. There wasn't a bad thing about our stay here and we will for sure be back. My wife and I decided to spend our anniversary night here and I'm glad we did. We were greeted at reception with a glass of champagne which was super cool to be your first impression of the place. The hotel is super neat in a high rise. The art theme to this place is really neat and it leaves a lot to look at when you are walking through. The staff was all amazing. It goes a long way when even the housekeeper you walk by says hi with a smile. We ate breakfast at the bar and wow, it was soooooo good. Our room was clean, the hotel was clean, and having a restaurant and champagne bar all in the same building was awesome. I would HIGHLY suggest staying here if you are in the Milwaukee area. Sure you will pay a little more but it's worth every penny.
