The restaurant is clean and well maintained. Nice atmosphere. The food looked nice but could be better in tasting. They did not had salt, pepper for extra spices. Lot of vegetarian options. Clearly labeled options. Friendly service. Parking is paid so make sure to pay the parking at the installed meters without fail.

Google
Phenomenal portion size and flavors, very kind staff (one time they were closing early, so they offered me a free big tub of lentil soup so it wouldn't go to waste!) They pickle stuff perfectly, and I can't get enough of their garlic spread.

Google
Went in to pickup a quick lunch. Got the steak wrap which was solid. All toppings are included so you can choose what you like. Could use more spicy sauce options (they just had spicy tahini). Felt a little brave and tried the chocolate hummus and that was clearly a good call! It's very dense and heavy. But, the cinnamon coated chips it comes with is the perfect combination. Heat place for solid, flavor packed and healthy grub!

Google
Service at this location is fantastic. The food quality is similar to what you'd expect from Cava or Naya on the east coast. It's good for that Mediterranean fix. The downside is the cost. Around 16 bucks for a bowl is tough to stomach. They do add a nice lentil soup with your meal though and have some interesting sauces / dips. Plenty of seating in there too.

Google
I like how you can custom your salad. Steak salad with Cubed beets, eggplant & topped with tzatziki, hummus and garlic spread was delicious. Service was very friendly. Portion is on the larger side it was super filling. Would have given 5 stars if they toned down the music. It was too loud. We could not have a decent conversation without straining or voices or constantly having to repeat ourselves.

Google
They have a few restaurants in San Francisco as well, and every single one is absolutely fantastic. This restaurant is a chipotle-style Mediterranean place where you can choose a base of salad, wrap, pita bread, or rice bowl, and then add many different toppings. The service is good too! Fast and tasty.

Google
Wonderful way to have a quick meal that is nearly all gluten free. All of the items behind the glass have V and/or GF, so I don't have to memorize ahead of time their pdf of allergens. Loved that the toppings were not additional cost, except for two. Only thing I was not a fan of was how it seems like there could be a lot of waste in the way things are served. The bowls are compostable, but the cups and utensils -- unclear what to do with those. Having silverware and cups that are washed would be less wasteful for eat-in customers (or have better signage by the compost/trash what goes where)

Google
Can't get a better halal wrap consistently. Never disappoints. (Student discounts are great)

Yelp
SAJJ is like the Chipotle of Mediterranean food. I first experienced SAJJ because of a Yelp event a while ago, otherwise I'm not sure I ever would have stepped foot into one. I recently had a craving for something with a falafel and SAJJ popped into my mind. I liked how you can customize the bowls and add a ton of different toppings. They're quite generous! Instead of going into the store, I decided to just build my order online for convenience. The order was ready to go by the time I got there AND I got a $5 discount for my first online order. Wins all around! I ended up getting the falafel bowl with the tumeric rice base and literally all the free toppings for just a little over $9. They also included a complimentary lentil soup. The bowl was quite large, and was big enough to split between 2 people. I did want a little more spice in my bowl, but that's just because I love hot and spicy foods and I know Mediterranean food typically isn't that fiery to begin with.

Yelp
Grabbed a chicken rice bowl and it really hit the spot. Super fresh ingredients, solid flavors, and definitely a generous serving. Prices are reasonable for what you get, and the staff was friendly. The space is clean with a modern look.

Yelp
I snagged a gift card from Costco for this restaurant since there was a deal. I saw all the positive reviews on Yelp, so I was excited to give it a try. I really like Mediterranean food since it is packed with flavor. I am a huge fan of chicken shawarmas and the spices. I decided to stop by for dinner on a Saturday evening and was surprised that it wasn't busy. The interior was extremely clean and spacious. We each got our own bowl but none of us could finish it since their portions were extremely big. I ordered the Shawafel since it had both falafel and shawarma. The bowl was just ok and the sauce didn't taste as good as I thought it was going to be. I was a bit disappointed since it looked delicious when they combined everything together. They even gave each of us lentil soup and that was also just ok. The other bowls we ordered were the chicken shawarma and pomegranate chicken. They pretty much tasted the same as mine with a different flavor because of the sauce. It tasted a little better the next day since the rice soaked up the sauces. I think it's good deal with the gift card, but I probably won't pay full price for it. The employees were nice and friendly.

Yelp
Came here with friends because I saw a review saying how great their bowls were compared to other places in the area. Wow! I was blown away! Where have I been all these years? It's true, the place is like a mediterranean bowl chipotle. The staff was super nice and the place pretty chill to hang out. Where else can you order something and get a free cup of soup?! I had a chicken bowl cuz the guy behind the counter was nice enough to let me sample the meats. Normally I am a steak kinda gal but the chicken was tender and flavorful so I opted for that. I got a mixture of salad, couscous and rice and EVERYTHING that was free thrown in (oh, except olives and jalapeños). Loved the creaminess of the bowl and the mixture of flavors and textures. The best thing?! Even for the price it was too much food so I had enough for leftovers for another meal. Typical downtown San Mateo parking so I think next time I'm going to try their San Bruno location and hope they're just as good!

Yelp
I've been curious about SAJJ for a while after seeing its multiple locations throughout the Bay Area. The workers were really kind and helpful and made the ordering process easy. I went with the shawafel (shawarma and falafel) build-your-own bowl and my bowl was filled to the top! The chicken shawarma was flavorful and I received a good portion of protein. There were lots of toppings and spreads to choose from -- and it's great knowing that the ingredients are locally sourced! My favorite was the eggplant. I also received a complementary bowl of lentil soup with my order, which was a huge bonus and paired well with my meal. Very spacious and clean location. Overall, this experience was great and I'd come back if I'm ever in need of a quick meal.

Yelp
Love Sajj - the chicken shawarma is so good! I like to get a little of everything in a bowl: turmeric rice, pearl couscous, mixed greens, arugula, beets, olives, tomato/onion/cucumbers, red onions, pickles, and the garlic toom topped with lemon juice and olive oil - yum!! Also enjoyed the complimentary soup! The waitstaff are super nice, professional and friendly. We will definitely be making return trips - many thanks Sajj!!

Yelp
A surprising standout in an area that has a number of mediterranean food options. Shawafel bowl: 4.5/5. The chicken shawarma is quite flavorful and I like the option of mixing in a few falafel balls too. I prefer this in a salad bowl with hummus and a bunch of veggies. The end result is not cheap, but they give you a lot of food.

Yelp
Easy Mediterranean, chipotle serving style. it's nice to have an easy place for lunch downtown with fresh flavors and quick service. There were a lot of great options to add into to add into the bowl: sauces, salads, sides and we got a lentil soup with each bowl! it was great to taste all the flavors, but i'm a mixer and after a while it all blended together. Sat down for lunch inside, and they also have an outdoor patio!
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
Let me first off say that Mediterranean is not my favorite cuisine, so take this with a grain of salt. I love that you can build your own bowl, love that part of the concept. It's like the Chipotle of Mediterranean. It was all very good in general plus you get a lentil soup. I think for me I just wasn't a fan of some of the sauces I got. I do love the eggplant and the hot peppers though. I recommend for people who like Mediterranean food, but if you're not a big fan, there's other good options nearby.

Yelp
I would rate SAJJ a 4.5 out of 5, rounded up to a 5! I've heard so much about CAVA down in Los Angeles, so was wondering if there was anything similar up in the Bay Area. Enter, Sajj Mediterranean! It's basically a Mediterranean version of Chipotle, so perfect for those who love to build their own bowls or anyone wanting a quick, filling, healthy meal. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Rice Bowl with a ton of toppings. There were honestly so many toppings and sauces to choose from! Looking back, I would probably only limit myself to one spread instead of two and then ask for a light drizzle of Tahini sauce on top. I got a little overzealous eating with my eyes and after mixing all my food together (I'm personally a mixer) all the flavors started blending together erring on the side of creamy due to the sauces. But it's all part of trial and error to building my perfect Sajj bowl! Also wanted to note that I ordered a side of falafel to share with my husband. LOVED them. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, overall flavorful - even after letting them sit for a while since I prioritized eating my bowl. I didn't realize until afterwards that we never got our complimentary lentil soup, but we were having so much fun with the gal helping us out at the counter was so nice that I think all forgot about it? But also by the time I remembered, I was already so stuffed that I was fine without it. Guess I'll have to go back to try it out! But for everyone else -- don't forget your complimentary lentil soup! Interior was clean, and they have a small area outside for patio dining as well! Random, but I was really pleased to see they had two gender neutral bathrooms instead of one that you would typically see in smaller fast casual restaurants. Healthy, delicious, and fast - I'll be sure to add this to my rotation of quick healthy eats :)

Yelp
I am a huuuuge fan of BYO-anything, so when I found out the set-up was like that at SAJJ, I couldn't wait! We both went with Steak Shawarma bowls as our base and then customized it with toppings as we made it down the line. There are so many topping options to choose from, our bowls were pretty stacked by the end. Ingredients were very fresh and flavorful, service was super friendly, and I think you can say I'm a new fan who will be back soon! My only "complaint" was that the meats were a bit too salty. * BYO: Steak Shawarma Bowls * Sides: Pita Chips & French Fries * Dessert: Walnut Baklava & Honey Cake * Drinks: Mint Lemonade & Strawberry Lemonade

Yelp
How is Sajj so good and affordable?! This spot is a gem! Clean, healthy ingredients! Can't go wrong!! Yum!
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
The ingredients are so so fresh and the variety here is crazy. I love how filling and fresh everything is. My go to order is a chicken shawarma and falafel bowl. What's great about here is that they have roasted eggplant and cauliflower as additional free hot bar toppings!! Service is also very quick and efficient. Whenever order delivery or to go, it's also just as good. Bonus: don't forget to get the FREE lentil soup for every bowl.

Lily G.

Yelp
Very friendly and attentive staff, clean food bar and dining area and delicious food! Every time I come here I'm able to choose from fresh and delicious protein, sauce and topping options. Their falafel is fried fresh to order with lots of veggie toppings so this place is great for vegetarians too! Very fair pricing and generous portions. When I come I always get their flavored lemonades.
google avatar

Yelp
Like another reviewer was saying, this is pretty much the CAVA equivalent for Northern California. I really enjoy coming here as the service is very friendly, and the drink selection is also pretty unique. Food wise, the portions are very generous (lots of meat - which is something Chipotle nowadays really lacks) and the flavors are very yummy. There's also a good amount of side toppings and spreads. What I really appreciate is their student deal - which comes with soup, hummus and pita crackers, and a drink - all for $13. This is an extremely generous deal - about the same price as CAVA, but they give you even more with the side things. I really appreciate this business's outreach to young people, as the prices of most restaurants have increased drastically, making it difficult to find somewhere reasonable and healthy. I'll be coming back more when I'm in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious and big portions! I built my rice bowl with steak and it was a great time. The meat was pretty good. I was surprised they had hot sides that were free to add to the bowl (cauliflower and eggplant). They were both so tasty! I really enjoyed the flavor of them both. Would definitely get again. A must! The rice was really good too, you could taste the perfectly cooked grains. The spreads were all tasty too, good hummus! The veggies all looked fresh and tasted great. Overall the bowl was very filling. I would consider to order some pita bread or fries next time to eat with the bowl, since it was quite saucy. That would probably turn into two meals lol. Over a few hours, the compostable container will probably become soggy (mine did since I had lots of spreads)! The complimentary lentil soup also tasted great. The baklava could use some work as it was pretty dry and the filling was kinda bland. It was unfortunately not flakey or crisp, rather dull in general.
google avatar

Sherry L.

Yelp
Good old Sajj. I love Sajj. It's one of the few places where you can get a lot of veggies and it tastes good! I love the roasted cauliflower and the pickled radish. It's such a healthy meal for about the same price as Chipotle.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
UPDATE: Sajj credited me on my order for leaving out the pita bread. I appreciate the gesture and will 100% return here. Thank you! Placed an order here for two family meals takeout on 3/31/24. They forgot the pita bread and won't refund me the value of the bread. It was too late for me to drive all the way back to pick up the bread. Now I have two tubs of hummus and no bread. Happy to chat with management.

Jenn K.

Yelp
I went in a weekday afternoon and there was no line. The bowls are huge! It was enough for 2 meals for me. I got the mix of falafel and chicken shawarma bowl. Of course, I got all of the toppings. There's just so much flavors and textures that went extremely well together. On top of that, they had complimentary lentil soup with my purchase. I'm drooling as I'm writing this review right now. Love this place! Love the food! And the service was amazing!
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
Really good fast casual Mediterranean that lets you choose your toppings similar to Chipotle. Came on a Friday for dinner and service was really fast. Sat down to eat and it was really empty inside, but don't let that comment fool you. I would say the vibe is similar to Chipotle (you don't really see people eating inside a Chipotle either). Portion-wise they're always good about giving you a lot of food so I would say I'm a fan. I'll continue to come back.
google avatar

Kyle L.

Yelp
I was disappointed with Sajj. The pictures on the website make it seem like more of a sit down restaurant than fast-casual bowl place. Their topping options are fun and different than Cava, but their protein options do not compare. I had a bowl with half falafel and half chicken. The falafel was super burnt and crunchy, which I've never seen before. I also got an order of their pita chips and lentil soup. The chips were rock hard (more like croutons) and lacked flavor. The lentil soup was surprising good though. It tasted kind of curry-potatoe like which I loved.

Da-yup K.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots when I'm craving something healthy and flavorful at the same time. I love the sauces they use and that I get to choose my own ingredients (especially because I am indecisive when choosing between pre-made options that feel limiting).
google avatar

Szarisse B.

Yelp
This place is a Mediterranean version of of Chipotle. Food felt super healthy but very tasty. They give you a complimentary lentil soup with each order. Service is fast, best place to go if you're in a rush since they can get you in and out quickly
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
Quick healthy bite ! Veggie options avail- falafel was amazing and like home made ! Def coming back

Yelp
Fresh, healthy, tasty food. Generous portions. Pleasant staff. Wish we had a Sajj in San Francisco.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking to eat something healthy and appetizing, check out Sajj Mediterranean. Everything is tasty and colorful. The service is very quick and friendly. It's like a Mediterranean version of Chipotle. You choose your entree, condiments, and sides, then top it off with a sauce or as many sauces as you would like. Personally, I am a huge steak lover but after trying their steak here, I prefer their chicken as it tasted better. It's also very filling for about $14/bowl. Worth trying if you want a fast and delicious lunch to go.
google avatar

Alani C.

Yelp
Love this place, the food is fresh and delicious and I love the menu!! Only feedback I have is to reconfigure ur payment solutions to allow us to tip your staff! I rarely have cash on me and I don't today...but the staff is always great!

Nick S.

Yelp
Ordered Steak Shawarma through Uber 6/28/24, very disappointed. As a Middle Easterner, this is one of the worst dishes I've had. Tough meat, barely any Shawarma in the bowl. No dressing on the salad and bunch of chickpeas.

Wendy C.

Yelp
Delicious lunch option. Very big portions and delicious flavors. I have gotten the pita or the Sajj option (I recommend the Sajj or rice bowl. The pita gets messy). Their cauliflower side and eggplant side are the BEST. I have seriously considered buying a tray of each side to take home. The chicken is flavorful and not dry. And all the veggies are fresh. The lentil soup is a lovely little appetizer and unexpected treat. Good variety of options for non-dairy, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, etc.

Yelp
I got turned on to this review by vegan Yelper John B. from the East Bay. Props John B. Thanks for keeping your ear to the streets in the Bay Area for the best spots to check out. The City aka SF needs one of these. I had a outdoor work gig in San Mateo. The peninsula is not SF. It was blazing hot and heaps of water to hydrate. An appetite was worked up. Afterwards went here with my friend to get a bite. This spot is chipotle style middle eastern food. They give you a compostable bowl I filled it with salad, rice, beans, eggplant, falafel, veggies, pickles, etc topped with tahini. It came with a complimentary lentil soup. The soup wasn't hearty and more liquid yet free is awesome. I give the soup three stars and bowl 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars with the friendly service. Quick, tasty, and nourishing bowl. I think it was about $13 or so for the meal which is a bargain for what you get. I have a hearty appetite and couldn't finish it and made a good meal thrown together the next day with some homemade stew along with rice I had. We'll be back!

Yelp
A Mediterranean restaurant on E 3rd Street. I was stumbling along through San Mateo. Forgot about lunch until past 2pm. It's hot out. I needed something not too heavy. But would be healthy. Sajj is right next to Peet's on E 3rd Street. They have shwarma and all the regular food for a Mediterranean meal. I'm not a big eater midday. The staff suggested a kid's meal. It comes with rice or greens and a protein, a side (cauliflower & tomato or eggplant sautee medley)+choice of veggie topping. You get a warmed pita bread and an Honest apple juice box. Deal!!! Only $. Two small meals for me :o) Gotta come back & try other foods!

Yelp
I was hanging out with my friend in San Mateo and I found this place. My friend introduced me to this Cuisine and she loves Mediterranean food. Then it is one of my favorites food now. This restaurant has a delicious food and great ambiance. I'm in love with their Interior Design! They also have a nice patio dining. Their Chocolate hummus is my new favorite addiction. It tastes lightly chocolaty from the cocoa powder, nutty from the tahini, smooth, creamy, and fantastic! I also love their falafel, Salad Bowl, Pita Bread, and Baklava! The Falafel turned out very well. Everything was amazing and healthy. You should stop by if you are craving Mediterranean food. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
This is one of my "new" favorite local chains in the entire Bay Area. I say new since I don't know how long they've been around but only discovered Sajj within the last year or so. It's basically Middle Eastern Chipotle but they do it all so well here. Probably my favorite part is that nearly everything is Vegan aside from the little meat and the yogurt sauce. It makes it so easy to eat here. I just have them load up my falafel bowl with pretty much everything on the line. It's a smorgasbord of awesome sauce. Speaking of sauce, when they add sauce, they ask you to tell them when to stop. I get strange looks like "are you sure?" when I ask them to keep going. Sauce is life! The employees here are quite friendly and always cheerful. They give you a delicious cup of lentil soup with your order. It's a nice touch, but not sure if that's standard or not. Either way, it's greatly appreciated. We drive from Martinez just to eat here, the food is that good.

Yelp
OVERALL: Very confused how this place had 4 stars. My experience was less than pleasurable from their online ordering, to their food, to their service. I actually wanted Nick the Greek but settled for this. Never again. FOOD: The first issue with the food is that it was freezing cold. I live literally 5 minutes from the restaurant so there is no way it got this unreasonably cold on the drive. You could tell their traditional falafel pita was premade and came out of the refrigerator. They will tell you they make it fresh and maybe that's their hope, but this store is not doing that. Other than that, their flavors are okay. They are crazy expensive though and for cold food with just okay flavor, it's not worth it. Their one saving grace is their french fries. But you can find good fries in plenty of places. SPACE: The space is cool and modern, there is plenty of seating inside. You walk up and order and they make your food, similar to Chipotle. To pick up, they have a shelf SERVICE: Service was bad. There's no other word for it. I ordered using their online ordering platform and it took double the time it said it would for the food to be ready. When I walked in, I was the only customer in the store. I was not greeted in any way. The food took so long because there were two women behind the counter chatting and taking their leisurely time to make the food. I will not be back.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
One of the more reliable and healthy food chains. Not to mention delicious and usually hits the spot. I was feeling like something more on the healthy side but needed it quick, and Sajj was the solution. We walked in and no one was in line. We were greeted by a cheerful employee who helped us complete our bowls. She was very polite and patient with us, going through each item and asking if we wanted more of each. I really appreciated that considering most people don't take time to ask and I feel like I am interrupting them when I try to request more of an item. We ordered two of the shawafel bowls (steak + falafel). It cost us about $15+ per bowl bc of the combo. They were good portions - I only ate about 3/4 of it and had some leftovers. The lentil soup was quite liquidy compared to what I make at home, but it was tasty (and free!) :) Btw, if you get a chance to try their chocolate hummus, it's delicious! Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Juliet M.

Yelp
Another favorite lunch spot, we have a 15 dollar limit for our per diem and there are so many items on the lunch menu we can get for that amount. Love the chicken sharawma with rice bowl because it comes with so much salad, always makes lunch feel healthier and more balanced than without it. Packaging is the nice thick containers for takeout and each have a sticker label so you know what's yours if doing group orders with coworkers. Baklava is so good as well, not too sweet and the Phillo dough is not soggy like at other places.
google avatar

Deepti K.

Yelp
Got takeout from here. They got it ready very quickly. I got a build your own falafel in pita with hummus and garlic spread and a bunch of toppings. It was really good! Also got a side of fries, which were great! The peri peri sauce I got as an extra was not that great though.
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
This is my go to spot when I'm feeling indecisive because they never disappoint. It's kind of like a chipotle-style mediterranean place where you go down a line of toppings and let them know what you want. If you're a student, take advantage of the student discount! it's ~$8 for an entree (wrap, pita, or bowl), chips with hummus, a drink, and a cup if soup. literally one of the best student specials out there. i'll usually get this with a steak wrap. fave drink is the mint lemonade. I've also tried their za'atar pie and falafel pita tacos. skip the za'atar pie; it was so tough to bite and chew. the pita tacos were good, but i'll stick with the steak wrap
google avatar

Payal V.

Yelp
I had never been to a Mediterranean place that had a build your own bowl bar. What a great idea! I loved the selection of items. I built my own salad with falafel, eggplant, beets, and hummus. The size of the salad was adequate. I got to try the lentil soup too. I really liked it. It's a nice light soup so it didn't fill me up too much before having the salad. The restaurant was very spacious and clean. I would recommend this place and I'd come back again.

Yelp
Normally, Mediterranean food is not at the top of my list of things I usually crave for. This was a special vegan phase I had in my life before a vacation to Italy... BUT! Nonetheless, I had a wonderful experience here at SAJJ. It is basically a chipotle but for mediterranean food! =P You choose: 1) ENTREE: Falafel, Chicken or Steak Shawarma, SHAWAFEL, Chicken Kabob or Pomegranate Chicken. 2) BASE: Pita, Bowl, Salad, Wrap 3) SPREAD: Hummus, Garlic Sauce, Tzatziki 4) TOPPINGS: There are many items to choose from and I am not going to list the entire menu (but you get the gist). Food was very fresh, everything was very cohesive no matter what you ordered. SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! Baklava is YUMMMS.
google avatar

Mariah J.

Yelp
My first time was 3 days ago, and I've had it every day since, and I still crave it. The service staff are so patient and friendly, the restaurant is clean, the ingredients are fresh, and falafel are made fresh to order. A delicious, healthy, and hearty meal at an affordable price that leaves you feeling good! What more can you ask for?! And, the falafel is still warm by the time I get home

Kevin L.

Yelp
I've been here quite a few times and I do like the food here. What really bothers me about this place is the inconsistency with the amount of fillings that they serve. The person doing my pita pocket today was outrageously cheap and basically gave me no more than a small tablespoonful of the chicken sharwma. I didn't say anything cuz I didn't wanna sound greedy but when I got home I really regret it cuz I had so little meat that all I could taste was the veggies and fixings. They really odd to use a scale so that they can at least give a consistent amount each time. As an example, the person last week was great and gave plentiful but today it's was simply horrendous. Sometimes I really wonder, why are these servers so freaking cheap, are they saving the leftovers for themselves or something?
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Wow! The quantity of food you get for the price is amazing here. Then you top it off with really good food quality and that is the icing on the cake. This place has a similar concept to Chipotle that used to be here but adds the Mediterranean food twist. The food is very yummy and the service is good as well. I was allowed some taste samples as I was not sure which protein choice to go with. Came with my wife on a Wednesday early evening and there were not many people there at all so we got our food very quickly. We got the following and both were excellent with lots of food. We couldn't even eat half of each bowl and saved it for lunch the next day: - Shawafel in a salad bowl with all no additional cost add-ins - Chicken shawarma/pomegranate chicken combo in a salad/rice combo bowl with all no additional cost add-ins I am not usually a soup person but I really liked their hearty lentil soup which had great flavor. I will definitely be back! In fact, I just downloaded their app to get ready for my future visits!

Yelp
Friend recommended this place. It felt like a Chipotle for Mediterranean food. You pick a base (chicken, falafel, etc), the medium to carry that base (salad, rice bowl, wrap, etc) and then customize (i.e. add eggplant, cauliflower, tzatziki, etc.). Some adds-ons were a few cents more, like feta or a pita bread on the side. Every order by default comes with a small cup of lentil soup. Overall really satisfying meal. I had a falafel salad with practically every add-on that didn't come at an extra charge. The lentil soup was surprisingly really good: consistency and spice spot on. The falafels were tasty as was the eggplant add-on. My entirely meal was a little less than ten dollars and extremely filling. So you definitely get what you pay for and the portions are very appropriately sized. 10/10 would go again for a quick meal.

Yelp
Best ever!!! I love Sajj so so so much. The food is vibrant and fresh and delicious! Of all the build-a-bowl restaurants, Sajj definitely feels the healthiest and most satisfying. You just can't go wrong with a bowl full of crunchy greens, lean protein, creamy hummus, and yummy Mediterranean sauces! There are 4 base options (pita, Sajj wrap, turmeric rice, mixed greens), 5 protein options (beef or chicken shawarma, falafel, shawafel, pomegranate chicken), and over 10 plant-based topping choices, which means endless combinations! It's perfect for anyone who appreciates different textures and flavors in every bite. Each bowl is entirely adaptable to different diets, so it's easy to stay within your restrictions whether you're living low carb, vegetarian/vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, or soy-free. I really hope to see Sajj continue expanding their menu and locations!

Yelp
I came here for their grand opening. I wasn't too sure what to order but am not a huge fan of chicken so I got the shawarma and falafel with rice plate. Their setup is very similar to chipotle and other grab and go places. Food is served very quickly and there are tons of toppings available for your meal choice. I chose to have avocado, feta, spicy tahini, tahini, pickled radish, beets, hummus, garlic sauce ( sooo garlickey and pillowy soft), tzatziki sauce, garbanzo beans, eggplant ( super fresh and not mushy at all), sumac cauliflower, tomato cucumber salad, and sumac onions. I also had a chance to try their chocolate hummus, and baklava. The baklava was pretty good and tasted like most baklava I have tried. The chocolate hummus was soo creamy and chocolatey, I forgot it was hummus. This has almost inspired me to make my own, but I don't have a food processor and in all honesty am way too lazy. I also tried a few sips of all their in house drinks, the lemonades were a bit sweet but when I mixed them with the tamarind it was soo yum. I enjoyed how tasty and fresh their food was, I will be back whenever I am in the area.

Yelp
Chipotle style (build your own) shwarma bowl or wrap. I got a chicken wrap and smothered it with garlic, hummus, tahini and then got a side of chicken, eggplant, chickpeas hahaha. It came with a soup so cool! Came in before a massive lunch rush so we got our food quickly. The wrap was heated on a Sajj which looks like an upside down wok, it's very distinctive when you're lining up and gives off lots of heat. I like this place for several reasons: 1. The food is locally sourced and fresh 2. Lots of variety of fillings for bowl or wrap 3. So many different sauces/dips 4. Children's food items are cheap (mac n cheese is kraft) I would definitely come here again and the strawberry lemonade was delicious too

Yelp
I love Sajj in Mountain View and FiDi SF, so I was thrilled to see that they were coming soon to downtown San Mateo. When I finally saw the Yelps appear, I knew we had to get my fix soon. Hubs and I got a late lunch to go here the day after Christmas. We were in and out in minutes. I got the chicken shawarma bowl but half rice half greens. Friendly service, same consistency in quality and taste, and huge portions. But this location doesn't have the free Yelp check in for a free bag of those amazing but so unhealthy fresh fried pita chips. Be sure to get their garlic tahini sauce with their smooth hummus for your bowl. I'm glad to see Sajj expand. And yes, it is right next door to Halal Guys. LOL.

Yelp
The latest addition to downtown San Mateo. They occupy the former Chipotle location and ordering is easy; pick your base; how you want it (wrapped, rice, pita or salad bowl) and then select your add ons, down the line. Interestingly, the menu ordering is read from right to left versus left to right. I was initially confused. It starts with panels stating "what(meat/veg), in (bowl/wrap/pita), etc. Very interesting. This manner or ordering probably not unusual, but it was a first time for me. I am familiar with SAJJ from their Off the Grid food truck appearances. Now that they've transitioned to a storefront, I find the food to still be consistently good. Unfamiliar ordering format (truck is different there were so many choices...shawarma, falafel, etc and then how I wanted it serve, bowl or wrap....the most challenging part of ordering is knowing what you want and then deciding the add ons...so many choices!! If you are unsure about the meat choices, you can ask for a sample of meat & you'll get a small spoonful. I was not disappointed; the food was flavorful and the portions were generous. I was happy my chicken shawarma rice bowl l, pickled turnip, cucumber tomato salad and hummus. I also order a small side of falafel. I thought the falafel was very good, not dry, had a good cilantro taste and was not cooked in old oil. Overall my meal was very good and I would not hesitate to rw Unlike some other food truck transitions from truck to store fronts, SAJJ is great and I wish them every success. Other truck transitions in the area include Curry Up Now, Koja Kitchen, Halal Guys and now SAJJ.
