Nakagawa Sushi - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Ichiroll The best roll here is by far the Ichiroll, named after arguably the best Mariner to ever Mariner. It’s light and a little sweet from the imitation crab, with green onions and fried onions adding a nice zesty crunch. The other rolls are less expensive than the $22 you'll fork over for this, but they're also less exciting." - Kayla Sager-Riley

Google
Tried out Sakana on a warm Friday evening and had a nice dinner! I want to highlight the excellent service and large food menu - both were greatly appreciated. Everything we received ranged from good to great, although I didn't adore my sushi deluxe order of nigiri. The shrimp tempura were especially good and I always love to see hand rolls available. It was pretty busy by the time we left so I'd recommend making reservations.

Google
Sakana is our go to Sushi place; the sushi is great, fresh, and the portions are generous. But I also love the service and have only had great experiences here! Happy this is our local spot :)

Google
Stopped by for lunch and ordered exclusively off the lunch menu—6 piece sushi and rolls and the choice of 2 rolls lunch deal. Went with spicy salmon and unagi avocado for the choice of 2 rolls and both were delicious! The 6 piece sushi was yummy as well, highly recommend. Store environment is pleasant and bright.

Google
Probably one of our favorite sushi in Seattle area. The in laws and we were visiting Seattle and had done all the basic touristy stuff and wanted sushi and stumbled upon this place. Our server was wonderful, checked in on us plenty of times and made us feel welcomed. We sat down to complimentary appetizers. Then, we ordered two rolls, nigiri special, sishito peppers, edamame, hamachi and salmon appetizers. Every thing was delicious and fresh - absolutely no complaints and we have had our fair share of sushi everywhere. We even got a complimentary dessert! But I ate it too fast to take a good picture. Highly recommend, will be coming back. High quality sushi in a very comfortable environment. Parking was easy to find.

I had a totally nice meal here with my buddy on a Tuesday evening. Everything tasted good. Staff were nice and attentive. Great prices too!

Google
Disappointing Experience Despite High Hopes I had high hopes for this restaurant given its good reviews, but unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. First, the drinks menu was very limited, offering only bottled and canned options. I would have loved to see more variety beyond just sake and beer, perhaps some canned Japanese cocktails to broaden the selection. Second, the service was noticeably slow, even though the restaurant didn't appear to be busy. I also found it a bit distracting to see the server loudly tossing leftover food into the trash within the dining area. Finally, the sushi itself was a letdown. The baked sushi was oddly prepared; it wasn't pressed enough and fell apart easily, making it difficult to eat. The standard rolls also suffered from overcooked rice, and the overall quality was just "okay." Compared to other sushi restaurants in the neighborhood, like Momiji, the sushi here simply didn't measure up. Additionally, the miso soup was served with a large silver spoon, which felt out of place for a Japanese restaurant. It seems like they're still working out some kinks, and unfortunately, the experience didn't meet my expectations.

Google
Stumbled upon this gem in Capitol Hill for lunch. Prices are reasonable and the fish quality is outstanding. The Mini Chirashi had tasty fish selection and the nigiri was huge. Service was great and hopefully no one comes here because this is a hidden star ⭐️

Google
This place is amazing! Portions are great, food is delicious and nice ambiance. We tried the Geisha roll, creamy chicken katsu and udon noodles. Highly recommend, one of best sushi places in Seattle with reasonable prices

Yelp
this place is always consistent and just really good - everything i try on the menu is great service is always so great also and usually there's always a seat but they're great at takeout too!

Yelp
Service was good. Food wasn't bad, some things were better than others. Interior of restaurant is pretty open but some seats were fairly tight. We ordered a few things: California Roll- standard, "too much mayo" from the date. Negihama- bland, needed more green onion, I never dip stuff in soy unless it really needs it, it needed it. Crispy spicy tuna- good flavor but the rice to fish ratio wasn't great... too much rice Crunch shrimp roll- actually one of the best bites I had, good ratios of rice to fish to veg to actual tempura and not drowning in sauce. Creamy mushroom udon pasta- super rich and creamy, I thought it needed a touch of black pepper, date said it needed more salt. We both knew if we finished it we wouldn't feel good. The mushroom was coated in panko and a little too deep fried...which was obvious in the coloring, not bad overall but I think integrating some other types of diced mushrooms would have been good, like enoki or king oyster.

Yelp
I appreciated they offer a small version of the chirashi bowl so I had a chance to try a variety items on the menu. I ordered the fatty tuna nigiri, uni nigiri, and a specialty roll. Some of the fish in the chirashi bowl didn't quite suit my taste. The fatty tuna was a bit firmer than I expected. The uni didn't have a strong fishy taste but wasn't very sweet either. The specialty roll was interesting. I didn't enjoy the egg or edamame puree topping; a bit disappointed since it was recommended by the server. Overall, the high price point didn't quite match the expectations in terms of quality.

Yelp
Really good location, not too far from central cap hill but still a good walkable distance to be quiet enough, would recommend as a date spot. My first visit, i was honestly a little disappointed by my salmon roll because they put sauce under my roll, so the rice would crumble and rolls broke apart every time i picked it up. They could also add more imura imo, and In the picture, it doesn't look kind of messy. Taste wise though, the salmon roll didnt stand out, but i tried the loco loco and it was reallyyy good!! So that encouraged me to come back and try other things. Mentaiko udon could be saltier and less creamy, and i think they gave an edamame dip, super unique.

Yelp
Food was delicious and the service was fantastic. However, I didn't appreciate that the prices on the final bill didn't match the menu.

Yelp
Relatively new sushi place on 15th & Madison, with a large menu of hand rolls, sushi, and sashimi. They have $1.50 off starters during happy hour until 6pm so we tried the spicy edamame and takoyaki octopus balls; both were good - though I'd get the regular salted edamame next time. For dinner we had the sashimi and sushi deluxe (smallest sized tier - they had 4 versions of progressively larger versions of each). We each really enjoyed our fish - I thought the sashimi flavor was delicate/subtle and was plated well with seaweed, microgreens, edible flowers, scallions, and cabbage behind/holding up the various types of fish. While not the best sushi I've ever had in my life, it hit the spot and I'll be back. In terms of ambiance, the restaurant is very casual and brightly lit; with large floor-to-ceiling windows looking out towards Madison; and 90's pop music playing
google avatar

Anita M.

Yelp
I ordered geisha roll, sakana roll, and a Mentaiko udon pasta. Rolls were delicious and fish was fresh. I was really craving western sushi rolls and this really hit the spot. Mentaiko udon wasn't overly fishy from what I usually expect from this dish but they make it much more creamy and rich which was so delicious. Definitely coming back to try out their nigiri and handrolls when I'm craving for that!

Yelp
Second time coming here and sushi is always so fresh and delicious! Came here as a party of 3 with reservations and we were greeted and seated immediately. Service was friendly and we appreciated the complimentary edamame guac with chips! So yummy! Ambiance is modern and clean. Food: + Beef sukiyaki nabe loaded with tofu and fish cakes! so good! + I forgot what we ordered, but it was definitely one of their large sushi and sashimi sets to share! Everything was fresh and tasty! + we also shared one of their rolls and was also very good! Overall, I really love this restaurant and I feel like its underrated! It's a little further away from the main cap hill area, but finding parking is a lot easier.

Yelp
I went here with 2 friends on a Tuesday dinner and it was fairly easy to make reservations day of. The place is pretty small so a reservation is recommended nonetheless. It was a nice touch they put a reserved piece of paper with your name and time on the table. We were given a edamame dip to start, which was fairly solid. It is pretty refreshing, with an interesting texture. This is kind of like their take of chips and guacamole. We ordered 5 dishes for 3 of us, which was more than enough. We got the salmon usuzukuri, short rib entree, yaki udon with sukiyaki, Capitol Hill roll, and Sakana roll. The salmon usuzukuri was the best dish that we ordered, so we started off with a WOW. The salmon was very fresh and the sauce enhanced the salmon flavor quite a lot. There is edamame puree underneath - looks like this is their signature flair. Short rib was good but felt fairly standard. It came with rice that was a bit undercooked which was a miss, but does not warrant taking off a star given the quality of the rest of the dishes. Yaki udon with sukiyaki was pretty good. I love the udon here, as they prepared it quite well and somewhat al dente. There is generous amounts of sukiyaki beef and it was juicy. A nice touch was there was bonito flakes in it too. Capitol Hill roll is very aesthetic with the rainbow toppings from the salmon, mango, avocado, and tuna, and the inside has tuna and tamago for a sweet and savory combination. Similarly, the Sakana roll has a sweet and savory combination with egg and salmon on top, with soft shell crab and real crab inside. This roll is on the expensive side ($24) but it is topped with high quality premium ingredients and comparable to cost for standard rolls in other sit down restaurants. I liked the Capitol Hill more even though the ingredients in this roll individually are better, likely due to how the flavors combined. Service was good for the most part. We did have to flag down to ask for water refills, but they were willing to accommodate using a different credit card even though my friend accidentally used theirs, which is something that some establishments may refuse to go through that hassle especially when it is busy.

Yelp
Super cute place in Cap Hill. It's got huge open windows giving it a nice open air feel while indoors. The surrounding area feels quiet and cozy w/ other cute restaurants on the block. A bit pricey but nothing I don't expect from Seattle restaurants. I tried the crispy tuna and the mentaiko udon. Both were good. The rice was crispy without being dry or hard and the tuna tasted fresh. The garnishes were nice as well. The udon was creamy and rich, noodles well cooked (not too soft, not undercooked). (Edit: maybe I don't know my mushrooms because my mom says these might be cremini) The udon has mushrooms, of which type the waitress was unable to tell me. I personally don't like the flavor of shiitake mushrooms, but the udon had a hint of that taste. It wasn't overwhelming and I could still enjoy the dish, but I wish that the waitress had double checked w/ the kitchen before answering if she wasn't sure. Overall, I still think I would come check this place out again for their other rolls and dishes. The udon is good, especially if you like the flavor of shiitake but I don't think I'd order it again.

Yelp
I've dined in for happy hour one time and ordered take-out from their regular menu the second time. I love the capitol hill and area 206 rolls. The mini chirashi bowl was also so worth it! The crispy spicy salmon is good if you like crispy rice! I didn't enjoy their happy hour rolls as much since they were tiny and more plain but I recommend trying any of their specialty rolls! The scallop crudo was tasty for an appetizer. Service was friendly. I'd recommend checking this place out!! Will be coming back for their specialty rolls.

Alicia N.

Yelp
Great service, prices, food, and vibe!! We enjoyed everything we ordered - fried enoki, crispy spicy salmon, fatty tuna & uni tartare, and Toto roll. Plus pretty cheap beers!! Can't beat this place for a local sushi spot.

Yelp
Overall, we had a good experience at Sakana. The servers were incredibly friendly and helpful, and most of the food was really tasty. The rolls we had were good and the tempura appetizer was fried perfectly. The menu is a little difficult to navigate (it's HUGE and I was getting fairly frustrated scrolling up and down on my phone...). My recommendation would be to give every single table a paper menu. I'm not a huge fan of the space itself...I think it's lacking some mood lighting and better seating. The texture of the mochi wasn't quite right, but we ordered 15 minutes prior to close, so I'm going to blame it on that. We'll be back!
google avatar

Trisha F.

Yelp
The service and space are great. They have great happy hour deals (1 off wine sake or beer, 1.25 off regular rolls, 1.50 off fancier stuff). They give you a free edamame dip and corn chips for the table. The wine and sake were good. Every other dish we ordered was great--short ribs, seaweed salad, cucumber roll (I asked for California rolls but was given this), avocado roll, salmon roll). It sucked that the ribs didn't come with miso like online menus claimed, but that's life. I would have loved to not have a huge bone lodged in my throat after a single piece of unagi and avocado roll. Staff tried to tell me the chef cuts bones small and it's totally normal in an unagi roll... I've been eating this exact dish in this city in restaurants of varying price for 15 years (including grocery store sushi!) and I've never once gotten a bone before today. They gave us a free mochi dessert (two pieces sliced into halves with whipped cream) as an apology, but if I swallow a certain way I can still feel where the bone was. I would not go back.

Yelp
The sushi was very good quality and I enjoyed both my futomaki and caterpillar rolls. They also had an interesting edamame "guac" and tortilla chips appetizer they provided for free that was pretty tasty too. I'd definitely come back here for sushi any time. Service was very very good. The server was attentive and thoughtful and she was also friendly and knowledgeable about the large menu. It took us a while to decide because there were so many options! The ambiance was nice enough. Somewhere between classy decor but casual space. I'd definitely go here again for sushi and I'd try the other items too some time.
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first time trying Sakana and the menu is quite extensive so we were excited to try a lot of items. We got the Enoki Mushroom Tempura, crispy spicy salmon, yaki udon with sukiyaki, area 206 roll and the fire dragon roll. We enjoyed the area 206 roll and crispy rice, but thought that the salmon was not the freshest quality compared to other sushi spots. The fire dragon roll on the other hand was a miss for us. The rice was mushy and a bit too much sauce in our opinion. The tempura fried enoki mushroom was also a unique appetizer that I would get again. Overall, we would come back to try other items and service was really attentive and friendly!

Yelp
After spending a day walking all around Volunteer Park, we went nuts at Sakana Sushi & Kitchen in Cap Hill, especially because we arrived during happy hour. All our dishes have a small discount, just enough to instigate over-ordering. Food was very good. They are not competing at the high end omakase sushi level. Instead, they have a mix of quality kitchen and sushi/sashimi dishes. I definitely recommend them for your sushi and Japanese food fix without breaking the bank. Service was kind and courteous. Our server asked for inputs, and I gave them honest feedback. They are several months old. I am rounding up my rating to a full 5 Stars to give them a bump. The restaurant has a basic and functional deco. I like that the tables are not very close together. The Food: Fried Oysters, $11, minus $1.25HH - 5 Stars Perfectly breaded panko friend oysters, this was one of our favorite dishes. Ika Geso "Squid Tentacle", $11, minus $1.25HH - 5 Stars I think a restaurant is paying respect to their culture when there is that one unusual dish that is most definitely not geared towards Americans. Squid tentacles definitely fit the bill. Also panko fried, it has a wonderful chew. Sauteed Garlic Shishito Peppers, $9, minus $1.25HH - 4 Stars With all the fried foods, I told myself I need to order a veggie. This is it. :) It's perfectly executed. Takoyaki, $8, minus $1.25HH - 2 Stars This dish was the only failure of the night. Way too much sauce. It's swimming in sauce. It's a waste of sauce and made the takoyaki balls soggy. This is an easy fix. Crunch Portobello, $9, minus $1.25HH - 3.5 Stars The execution is good, but the portobello flavor is overwhelmed by the panko breading. We still liked it, but it's not obvious on what is inside. Salmon Usuzukuri, $15, minus $1.50HH - 4 Stars Served over edamame puree, the salmon with the balsamic soy sauce is very good. My hubby was ok with this, but I don't like the mouthfeel between the smooth silky salmon mixed with the coarseness of the edamame puree. Maybe if the edamame is super-smoothly-blended, it would be better. Tuna Tatiki, $16, minus $1.50HH - 5 Stars Served with guacamole/tataki sauce, I loved this dish. The guac is a smoother texture than the edamame, and this dish was a much better combination. The lightly seared tina was perfectly executed. Scallop Crudo, $16, minus $1.50HH - 5 Stars Served with lemon zest & ikura ponzu, the texture, taste, and feel of this dish is spot on. Avocado Bomb, $10, minus $1.25HH - 5+ Stars This was their most creative and unusual dish, and I loved the combination! They are fried avocado halves filled with cream cheese, spicy tuna, and crab meat. By golly, this is so good!

Yelp
This place was on my "to try" list for so long, and I'm so glad I went. Both rolls we got were flavorful and good quality, the deep fried mushrooms were ok. Can't ever say no to deep fried items, but would try something else on their appetizers list. For the star of the show though, the mentai udon was nice and hot, creamy and was the most memorable. Also before we ordered, they gave us chips and an edamame dip which was good! Overall I highly recommend trying. Price wise, it was actually fairly affordable considering the area and food items!
google avatar

Utsa S.

Yelp
The food was okay. The karaage almost tasted like it was air fried and not deep fried. I wouldn't order that again. We got some rolls to share and they were all quite good and reasonably priced. The service was a little slow, but there only appeared to be 2 servers in the entire restaurant. Also they give you chips and an edamame kind dip on the house

Negin M.

Yelp
One of my my Go-To Sushi Spot! The sushi here is always delicious and beautifully presented. I've been many times and it never disappoints. Definitely a place I'll keep coming back to again and again! Definitely try the Tuna tataki and edamame hummus
google avatar

Wendi K.

Yelp
High quality, affordable sushi. I loved the variety of items on the menu - they also have other categories like katsu dons and creamy udon. Bright, clean, casual interior. Got a bunch of nigiri ($3-$5 per piece) and a Real Crab California Roll ($10). The nigiri was well assembled and sizeable and the real crab california roll was also great. Staff was so friendly :)
google avatar

Warren G.

Yelp
This is must try new sushi on the hill! Sushi is in abundance here and this place fills a nice gap that I often find where I don't want it to be super fancy but I also don't want it to be bottom of the barrel either. The fish was stellar and well portioned for the sashimi. The salmon stood out as the best but the mackerel was a close second. They were able to do a rainbow roll with real crab (always a plus for those with celiac) and it was fantastic as well. The rice was well prepared and didn't dominate the roll overall. The non sushi options are plentiful for those who want to join but don't like raw (or don't like fish at all) food. Service was on point, attentive and quick and you can't ask for much more than that. I'm excited to not only go back but to hopefully shift this into my rotation as my go to easy sushi spot.
google avatar

Lulu K.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place... but was confused why it has such high ratings. Sushi was just okay. Got the area 206 cali with salmon and spicy mayo. Got karage... they need to work on their batter and If they want to do white met... maybe bigger pieces and tenderize it more? everything was dry and hard. And real karage has like lemon added to make add a little citrus kick. The creamy katsu was also hard, dry, and the chicken was so thin... . The creamy sauce with mushroom was good tho. Fresh roll.... Please don't serve that. It had an off taste with the fried mushroom. The flavors did not mesh well together with the balsamic dressing. Everything was just too heavy on the mayo and dry with the frying. They did take the feedback... so hopefully they can make it better!

Yelp
I tried this place for the first time for dinner with friends and I loved it. Walking in, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the lighting was nice. I had made a reservation on Yelp and we were seated almost immediately. Service was great and they were very friendly and attentive. We tried the spicy salmon crispy rice, the Capitol Hill roll, creamy udon with salmon roe, and the fresh roll (wrapped in rice paper). They were also kind enough to give us a free appetizer, which was an edamame hummus. We all agreed that everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. We especially liked the spicy salmon crispy rice and udon. I highly recommend trying this place.

Yelp
This newly opened sushi restaurant opened in May, further away from the Pike/Pine corridor up on Madison. To be honest I didn't give Sakana a good chance the first time I tried it out. I was grumpy and in a bit of tired hangry mood. But that all disappeared when the food came out. What we ordered: Mini Chirashi $13 Toto Specialty Roll $17 Chicken Katsu $17 The Mini Chirashi comes with 5 thick slices of sashimi over rice. Its beautifully presented with pickled ginger and wasabi. The Toto Roll, is a California roll with seared salmon slices, topped with aioli, masago and green onions. My favourite was the Chicken Katsu. It comes with two sizable crispy chicken cutlets with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, katsu sauce on the side, a bowl of rice and miso soup. I couldn't ask for anything more. There were two wait staff at the time so we were well taken care of. Can't say the same the other time... A few weeks later had gone again for Late Happy Hour (Fri & Sat: 9:30PM-11:45PM) with a few friends. Their happy hour features $1-$1.50 off specific items off their Happy Hour Menu. Some notable items we ordered: Fried Tofu Okonomiyaki Chicken Karaage Short Rib (not hh) $19 The small plate food was good. Loved the spicy sweet sauce that came with the Fried Tofu. And the Okonomiyaki was a table fav. Items that were suppose to come with miso soup was forgotten. While trying to wave down the one serving staff was difficult. I ended up just going up grabbing the items that we needed from the small table that had extra plates, napkins and chopsticks. Part of me prefers a self serve station if the there isn't enough staff or at least a call button on the table to get the attention of someone, if the wait staff suddenly disappear from view. It wasn't even that busy of a night. Over all great food! 10/10! Some staff need some work, or perhaps just have a self serve station where people can go and grab extra utensils and plates or bottles of water. Its honestly a hit or miss. But do go and try the food.

Yelp
So delicious! Really enjoyed the space and the service was phenomenal. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Had dinner hear last night and every dish we got was great! The server was very patient and checked on items to confirm they were gluten free - they even had tamari. We ordered: - uni don - spicy salmon with crispy rice - basic salmon roll - negi hama roll - house sake 10/10 would recommend checking this place out! Great happy hour deals as well!

Yelp
This was a great new sushi spot in cap hill with many options. My friend and I shared a cap hill and fly me to the moon rolls. The rolls were huge and presented beautifully! I came on a weekend and it was surprisingly not busy at all. The service was fast and friendly. Our server even got us started with a free app of edamame dip and chips.

Yelp
Extremely fresh and delicious sushi! We ordered Crispy Spicy Salmon, super yummy; Capitol Hill (good but not too impressed); and my favorite Area 206, simply delicious! Ambiance is casual and cozy enough. Service is friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth it! We will be back! If you decide to come, you will be well served! Enjoy!

Yelp
Holy moly. This is an absolute amazing restaurant that's only a few blocks from our house. Their menu is vast and it's all delicious. The staff was very courteous and made us feel incredibly welcome. They started the night off with a free appetizer on the house and each dish that we ordered after was so good. My absolute favorite is their crispy spicy tuna roll! My partner loved the panko crusted portobello mushrooms. The surprise dish that packed a lot of flavor was the Avocado Bomb. We also tried the Aloha roll (fantastic!) and the Capitol Hill roll (also great). The ambiance is low key, with soulful R&B playing over the speakers. It feels intimate and perfect for a date night. Will be coming here again for sure! ORDER THE CRISPY TUNA ROLL! You won't be disappointed :)

Yelp
Disclosure: I am in between and 3 and a 4 star. The ambiance gives a nice, chill, with clean lines, and modern. The service was per usual Japanese custom. The wonderful greeting and leaving was inviting! The food: I think the food is great here except for the sashimi. After arriving from another sushi spot (aburiya) I can tell there was a different in quality! There non sushi dish is probably the returning point. The crispy squid tentacles was on point! Very crunchy and full of flavors. The okonomoyaki was good but I felt they could use more cabbage and less batter. After returning from Japan I feel that the batter should just be enough to bind the ingredient and make them the star of the show. All in all, they have a lot of non sushi dishes I like to try and would return!

Yelp
Service was good. Sushi was great for the price. Great to have this place in the neighborhood. Would 10/10 go back.

Yelp
Great neighborhood sushi spot. Friendly service with a large menu and tons of good options. We went for happy hour and everything we got was delicious!

Yelp
The rolls are huge here! Wow! We over ordered thinking they would be smaller. I highly recommend the tempura shrimp! The edamame dip and chips at the beginning of the meal is such a huge bonus! Delicious! My only star off is because we ordered drinks and we had to ask two people for them before finally getting mine right before the meal was over. We will return

Yelp
We tried for the first time based on yelp recs. The ambiance was fine. They were super nice. We got a reservation easily for a large group. The food was pretty good. Fish was fresh. Couple things were weird- the menu was hard to read online but they gave us paper menus. Then when we went to pay it got weird. They couldn't separate the checks well and it came out in a few checks, it was weird and frustrating and left kind of a bad taste / memory. I don't know if I'd go back. It was also hard to find parking.

Yelp
Actually a 3.5-3.75. I genuinely enjoyed the food but it leans on the saltier side for my taste: - The mentaiko udon: 4/5. It's creamy, flavorful, noodles were cooked well. Could use less salt. - Hamachi carpaccio: 5/5. I love the seaweed and the ponzu sauce. Fish was fresh and sweet! - Salmon carpaccio: 3/5. The salmon taste got overpowered by the sauce but it was still tasty and the fish was quite fresh. - Cucumber salad: 1/5. The cucumber salad was way too salty and we couldn't really finish it ): - Adageshi tofu: 3/5. The tofu was cooked nicely, and I love the mushrooms. The broth was too salty for me - Salmon collar: 5/5. Incredible cut of fish that is done well and seasoned well. We got a bowl of rice to go with it and it was so fatty and tasty. It was perfectly cooked. - Matcha tofu tiramisu: 5/5. Honestly so shooked that it was made with tofu cause they could totally lie to me and said it's just a regular tiramisu. A pleasant surprise! The service was phenomenal, everyone was quick and friendly and efficient. It's a cute little spot and love the big windows. Totally good for literally all occasions

Yelp
Wow 10000/10! The food, service, and ambiance was absolutely amazing. We made a reservation. Our table was awaiting with our name on it. Within minutes of sitting and ordering, our sushi arrived! We were pleasantly surprised and shocked. The sushi was just simply wow. Our sever was so sweet and tentative. The sushi chef was also so friendly and kind. Would definitely return when back in Seattle!!!

Yelp
Couldn't take any photos because we took out. Staff is nice. It's open kitchen so you can see the chefs working on your sashimi Food is amazing. Our favorite is the creamy udon, their sashimi cut is huge. I'd recommend you get the sashimi set to try out different fish. Price is standard. Space is open with high ceilings but seems like it can get packed very easily. Love love love

Yelp
Sakana was delicious and worth it! This is a good medium if you want good sushi without breaking the bank. I got the scallop hamachi, crispy spicy tuna, tofu agedashi, mini donburi, and sake and I enjoyed every item that I ordered. I was especially surprised with the agedashi tofu , who knew tofu could taste this good? The dashi broth was umami and flavorful and I loved the textures of the tofu and the crispy spicy tuna. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Didn't realize this place has been open for a month now! We came as a party of 5 around 7:15 on a Friday night and it wasn't overly busy. Service still seems a little frantic; our server had taken our order on a notepad and a little while after a different server came by with a machine trying to take our order. There were two people behind the counter making the sushi orders for the whole place which made things a little slower; everything came out one dish at a time. Nothing wrong with this, we know there's still kinks to figure out in the workflow! They gave us edamame dip on the house which was delicious! The nigiri pieces were pretty large and definitely required two bites. The serving of fried enoki is huge so definitely recommend coming with a group of people because even for us it was hard to finish. The flavor of the fish was decent and worth it given the price. My friend's roll was not so great though, it was missing a fish and just wasn't rolled well so it all fell apart. We'll come back after a while once logistics are hopefully figured out!

Yelp
Solid quality cuts of nigiri, kind and attentive service, and quick dining at this new, casual-modern Japanese restaurant. Was delighted to see this empty retail space finally filled after the chocolate store closed down. Prices are standard for a Japanese sit down so it's not a "cheap" meal by any means, but I do feel prices are very reasonable for the quality of ingredients they use and overall atmosphere. TAKOYAKI ($8) 5/5 Came out so fast. One of the doughier takoyaki balls I've had, where the center is slightly creamy and underdone (a good thing, if you prefer that) with a lightly crisped exterior and about 3/4 grape sized portion of octopus inside. CAP HILL ROLL ($19) 3/5 I wanted to like this, but the pickled gobo (burdock root) had a very overpowering flavor, but not in a good way. This was a soft and fresh roll overall with some sliced mango and shichimi flakes. However, if you don't care for fruit on sushi rolls, I would not recommend getting this. I think I'm going to opt for a savory warm roll next time, like the Loco Loco or Shrimpin ain't Easy. SASHIMI DELUXE ($29) 4.5/5 For the price, the quality and thickness of cuts were great and the fish all had the satisfying buttery mouthfeel you crave from an omakase night. This is such an affordable, accessible alternative that's much more satisfying than grabbing a poke bowl or sashimi cuts from Uwajimaya. I do think this batch of rice could've used slightly less water because texturally it was a bit too soft, and it also could have used a bit more sugar to balance the tangy rice vinegar. I did like the cuts better than Sushi Nori's chirashi bowl! Salmon here is on par with Rondo's salmon wagyu chirashi bowl -- excellent. F a v e s - Salmon: I'm a salmon girly, and for all you salmon lovers out there this totally passes the vibe check. Buttery and simple, yet full of flavor with that pleasant lingering salmon after taste. Heavenly. - Scallop: irresistibly sweet and fresh. Thick cut swallowed the rice beneath in the best way possible. Easily would've eaten 3 of these alone. - Squid: I'm not a squid girly but wow, I think I've been eating mediocre squid my whole life because this was probably the least rubber band-like, easy to chew, fresh tasting squid you can find for under $4. - Tuna, chutoro: soft and buttery, but kind of ok. Definitely solid overall, and better than Tamari Bar's happy hour chutoro, but there are better chutoro's out there. Something about it tasted slightly sour, and I'm not sure of it was the fish or rice. - Ebi: nothing special, but it hits exactly how you expect and want it to. M i d - Seared albacore & yellowtail: both had great buttery texture, but again had that sour taste. Liked overall, but didn't stand out. - Surf clam: I'm convinced that clam miso soup is the best way to prepare clam. I don't know if I've ever loved a nigiri clam, but hey, they look super aesthetic. Overall, super satisfied with Sakana. Happy they finally opened their doors and couldn't recommend their sashimi enough for its price and accessibility. We will be back to try the other cut rolls and a la carte nigiris. :)

Yelp
Super delicious new sushi spot in Cap Hill! We ordered the crispy spicy tuna (my favorite), the agedashi tofu, the tuna tataki, tako geso, Capitol Hill roll, and tuna nigiri. They didn't have any bluefin tuna, so they kindly offered to give us chu toro instead, and actually gave us two orders instead of one! They also only charged us for one blue fin nigiri instead of the two chu toro, which was so nice of them. Rating: Crispy Spicy Tuna 11/10 So yummy and larger than most Cr Sp Tuna rolls. Agedashi Tofu 10/10 I love how big the tofu is! Tuna Tataki 10/10 Had a spicy kick and paired perfectly with the guacamole. Tako Geso 10/10 Isn't overly battered and paired with a great sauce. Capitol Hill 11/10 I love rolls without imitation crab, and this one was so delicious. The mango on the roll was so good, and it tasted like an elevated rainbow roll. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly. The price of the food is extremely reasonable given the large portions, and they have a wide variety on their menu to try. The restaurant ambience is really cute and intimate as well. It's too bad the construction keeps people from walking around the area more than usual, but we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Hey guys! Whenever I go out to eat, I make sure to look at the reviews especially for sushi because it's one of my favorite foods. I love sushi so much and I feel like not a lot of people know about this gem in Capitol Hill. I discovered Sakana Sushi in July when I was going to a concert with a friend. It hit the spot for me for sure given the atmosphere and the service. We went around happy hour time and were seated right away. My friend and I got the Negi Hama roll, the Unagi over rice ( which was big Af), and my favorite the Sushi Deluxe platter that came with 9 pieces of nigiri. The prices are pretty reasonable. They give a lot of fish to rice ratio as you can see in the picture. I'm craving sushi right now just looking at my own photo. So if you're a big sushi lover like me, you won't be disappointed if you check them out.

Yelp
We went back last night. Still great. Hidden gem! Great service. Happy hour is the best though you have to ask for the happy hour menu and it's not posted online.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time and we had a great experience! The mood was chill but lively. Service was great from when we first stepped in through the end of our meal. All of the food we ordered was delicious. We got the Shishito peppers, California roll, Crispy spicy tuna, and Creamy udon. There were just 2 of us and although it was great, we only managed to eat about half of the food. Good portion sizes! The total came out to $55 and I think that's a great deal considering the service, food, and location. We will be back!

Yelp
Great food and great service! This is my go to place as the fish quality is impeccable, especially for the price.

Yelp
Service was excellent and happy hour bites were perfect for a nice meal. I highly recommend the enoki mushroom tempura which was light with a nice kick from dipping sauce. The sushi was ok but not the reason I would come here again.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of dining at the Sakana, the newest sushi spot in Seattle, and was thoroughly impressed by every aspect of my experience. I've been waiting so impatiently for something to take the spot on the corner of 15th and Madison, and this is the absolute greatest add to the area!! Sakana is stylish and has a very welcoming ambience. The decor was sleek and modern, which created a relaxed and inviting atmosphere great for a date night or friends grabbing a happy hour bite or dinner. The service was exceptional! Our server was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations and answering all of our questions with ease. The attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction was evident throughout the entire meal, making the experience all the more enjoyable. Now, let's talk the food. We ordered the Spicy Salmon Baked Roll, the Sakana roll, and the Cucumber Salad. I can't exactly express in words how well crafted they were and how each plate stood as it's own. The fish was fresh, and the flavors were balanced, maybe more impressively was the balance of having SO much fish offered in every bite but still hitting the sweet balance. The presentation was also top-notch, and speaks for itself from the photos. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. It's new to the area so go out and give it some love!! They also offer takeout and have really late hours! If I'm not mistaken they are open til 12am on Fridays and 1am on Saturdays! Adding more amazing eats y to the late night food scene THANK GOD
