16 Essential Japanese Restaurants in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Fried octopus fritters, crispy calamari, and sake-marinated barbecue ribs are a few of the creative dishes at Sake Cafe in Uptown, founded by chef Tony Zheng. Lemongrass goat cheese gyoza and baked salmon with snow crab also tempt. For mains, jumbo shrimp stuffed with snow crab in a peanut wasabi sauce is a modern riff to sample — or selection one of the varieties of pan-roasted or fried fish." - Beth D’Addono

14 Standout Sushi Spots in and Around New Orleans

"Sake Cafe Uptown is swanky sushi at its best. The place, in a former K & B drug store, is pretty in a 1990s sort of way with design wows like bright, multi-colored, Chihuly-esque blown glass chandeliers and bi-level white tablecloth dining. The sushi menu melds traditional Japanese dishes and New Orleans ingredients (see jazz roll, Uptown roll, and New Orleans roll on the menu) along with bento box lunch specials and a full bar including an extensive sake list and specialty cocktails. The happy hour is a steal, with tons of eats and drinks under $5." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell

Where to Drink the Best Martinis in New Orleans - Eater New Orleans

"For those who like flavored martinis, Sake Café on Magazine Street has a colorful martini menu that includes favorites like the lycheetini, French martini, and lemon drop. Added bonus: all drinks are half off during their daily happy hour between 3 and 6 p.m. This menu is not for the purists, so those who argue that flavored vodka poured in a martini glass does not meet the requirements of an adequate martini have been warned to look away." - Adriana Lopez

The Tiger roll, edamame and calamari were delicious. Don’t recommend the fried rice. It had raw red onion that just didn’t really fit well. Server was really nice but the ambiance was a little awkward with no music. Perfect if you like a quiet restaurant though!

Google
I am truly shocked by the experience I had last night. I have been eating at Sake for 12+ years. I have dealt with sub par service but love their sushi and that’s why I kept going. But I don’t think I will ever go again because of the waitress who served my friend and I last night. After ordering our appetizers, which she came to pick up at some point, she never came back to take our main order. We waited, in silence with our menus closed for over 20+ minutes while she sat down in a chair by the bar playing a game on her phone. At some point a waiter passed by and asked if we were okay and we politely said yes we would just like to place an order. He then called over the waitress who began to lecture us that in order for her to come take our order, we have to ask her to come over and take it, she said she was waiting on us. I was completely shocked at her tone and the fact that she was acting like we wasted her time. If that’s not bad, she then proceeded to walk away and slam/throw our menus down. When she came to fill our waters she did the exact same thing with the water pitcher. I can take a lot because I know it is long and difficult days in the service industry but she had no reason to be as rude and condescending as she was. I honestly would go as far to say that was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in my life.

Google
First time dining at a Sake Cafe and had a fairly good experience! I really liked the complimentary parking which allowed 6 hours!! I thought it would be 2-3 hours max, but when it said 6, I was impressed. Service was great especially since my party and I ordered a lot. The waitress was accommodating and allowed us to use two other tables nearby for our dishes and to-go containers. Everything we ordered was good especially the calamari and sashimi. Only thing disappointing was their happy hour menu. I felt like it was very limited and barely had anything to offer compared to other sushi restaurants. Overall, it was still a great place to dine in. Even the ambience and anesthetics were nice! I would most likely return and recommend this location to others!

Google
One of the worst service experiences I’ve ever had. After waiting over 30 minutes with no food arriving and no apology, we were charged $20 for just a small soup and salad—the appetizers from the lunch deal. But what really stood out was the bald waiter, who treated us with shocking disrespect. I’ve truly never been spoken to that way in a restaurant. Neil, the manager—if you’re reading this, your staff’s behavior was unacceptable, and it reflects very poorly on your establishment. Would not recommend.

Google
Very popular modern style sushi & sake bar on Magazine. Happy hour menu with a handful of sushi items and cocktail specials. Good staff, friendly place, especially Ty, a consummate creative. It must be nationally renowned as there are a lot of celebrity-signed portraits.

Google
We ended up getting the Philadelphia roll smoked salmon roll and one of the specialty rolls that I cannot remember the name of also got fried cheesecake for appetizers we had chicken spring rolls, fried goat cheese, and the tuna tataki. All tasted fresh. Everything was reasonably priced some of the best sushi that I've had and I've had sushi All over America and also in Japan. I have to say if you want really good sushi for a good price that tastes fresh I would definitely recommend this place 5 out of 5 Stars would definitely go again.

Google
Great food, superb quality. Lovely drinks, and fab staff. The only thing is the speed of delivery of food, they have to work on this - the flow is off, waited for the last of three cocktails which were ordered at the same time for about 15 minutes longer than the other other two. Management also seemed to be in a really crappy mood and somehow managed to make several staff members cry in the hour or two we were there. This is an absolute no go. Management by fear is not the way to encourage your staff to work harder and run faster.

Google
Swanky Japanese restaurant/sushi bar on Mag st. I wanted some good sushi and they didn't disappoint. This place is large, two stories so they can accommodate big parties. The interior wasn't just normal sushi bar aesthetic and stood out in a mostly good way. The cooler case full of dragon blade knives and kunai was an interesting accent point though. I specifically came for mackerel. It happened to be HH, which I appreciated them having saba on special. Ordered a special roll as well, and while it was good, it was all about the mackerel. My only complaint was the service was kind of slow, given how empty it was at the time. I'd come back for more Mackerel and to try some of their other options.

Yelp
10/10 this place serves fresh sushi & sashimi and also has options for non sushi lovers!!

Natalie M.

Yelp
Over priced and had a very long wait for my food to come out. I would not waste you time coming here go someplace else.
google avatar

Laroya D.

Yelp
Nice chill atmosphere with a fun and energetic staff. The sushi rolls were really good but my appetizer left much to be desired. I had the goat cheese gyoza which u didn't like (wasn't nasty, just wasn't for my pallet) and a mango that clearly was in the refrigerator because it absorbed alllll the odors. Sake was good tho!!! PS it's mold on the ceiling that was very distracting
google avatar

Olivia P.

Yelp
Good friendly service, clean restaurant. I asked the server for a vegetarian recommendation, and she brought a hot noodle dish, it might've been Pad Thai (see photo). I quite liked the food, but my dining companion said the sushi and gyoza were just 'ok'. Parking in that area of magazine street is notoriously terrible, but there is a parking lot next to the building and the restaurant validates so you don't have to pay. It's located in a busy part of magazine street so you can find somewhere within walking distance for drinks and dessert after! 3/5 stars.

Yelp
The food is so colorful and flavorful, the waitresses always make us feel at home the service is amazing and the setting of the restaurant just makes you feel like you are special in other words elegant.
google avatar

Dylan R.

Yelp
We had a decent experience here. The server was nice, but the food seemed to take a while to come out. The sushi was pretty good, but nothing overwhelmingly amazing. The chicken fire pot soup was the best thing I had all night.

CAROLYN W.

Yelp
The service was good and the menu was extensive but the food itself was disappointing. Avocado rolls were ok taste wise but falling apart. Soy sauce was very stout and the bottle was dirty. Pineapple fried rice was meh
google avatar

Yelp
Chic casual Japanese spot in Uptown NOLA. The food is solid w an extensive menu that focuses mainly on sushi but also features other entrees and appetizers. In addition, the service is great w the prices being about what you'd expect. We purchased a large sake, a sushi roll, and 2 dinner entrees and the price was about $75 which was reasonable in my opinion. Definitely recommended

Yelp
Since I was last at Sake, a few things have changed. The service was great, food still tasty, but the overall cleanliness is lackluster. I moved tables thinking that the huge stained white linen on the table was just at that table but nope, it's on all of them. I guess the restaurant doesn't deem them trash worthy. The beverage glasses seem smaller with ice filled to the rim. I would suggest renovating the restroom; the leaky faucet with a wash rag to collect run over water is a no no for the caliber this restaurant use to be. They get a pass because I'm sure the pandemic has a lot to do with the current conditions. The Sake parking lot is now public parking but Sake customers are comped.

Yelp
Great location in a prime area of the popular Uptown. Plenty of parking in a secure lot which is free for dining in at the restaurant. Horrible welcoming service from the moment of entering inside. From the hostess(Asian female) & host(Caucasian male). No type of formal greeting. Just asked how many in party and was ready to get us sat. We had to ask how/ what to do in terms of of inputting of license plates for parking in lot and the hostesses was like oh yeah, do it here(pointing to a machine) as if we should have been familiar with it. In regardsto service: Not much to say other than she did not know answers to any 80% SIMPLE questions we were asking. The food was good and seemed fresh. Descent plate presentation And to add insult, the hosts didn't even SAY ANYTHING while we were departing, no thank you, etc and mind you they had not one person at the host desk to keep the busy from doing that To be in an area of this caliber where the guest coming in are usually of status, someone needs to revamp training on customer service

Yelp
Recommended this by a barista from Revelator. I was in NOLA for about 24 hours and in the mood for some sushi. But after going through the menu, decided on some udon, and it was one of the better decisions of my life. The noodles were SO filling and tasty. If I lived in New Orleans, I would definitely make a return trip to try the sushi.

Yelp
Was recommended to try Sake Cafe Uptown, I was very happy that I did come in, I'm was working in NOLA for a little over a month and I have been here about 4 times. I sat at the bar, bartender was amazing! I think his name was John. Super service, great food and nice sake choices. Free parking in lot, just make sure to know your plate number and bring your vaccination card.

Yelp
I really forget about this place and I'm not sure why. It was a slow sunday afternoon around 2:45 PM. We were seated pretty quickly and we wanted to be seated outside. There are only a few tables out there so they can only sit a few. The host was just bleh. Not the nicest, but not very helpful either. I had never validated my parking there before so I didn't know what to do and he didn't help whatsoever. Once we got seated, our waiter was kind. Didn't mention happy hour though but it wouldn't have swayed our order anyways. We ordered three rolls and an app. The garlic edamame, yellow spicy dragon, flaming volcano roll, and the tootsie. All were very fresh and filling. I highly recommend the yellow spicy dragon bc it was a little lighter than the others and I love a crunch from the cucumbers.

Yelp
It's tailor-made for people who selfie their every outing, who don't actually eat so much as order, ogle, and opine, and whose idea of a good night out is a recreation of the latest something someone they've never met did for dollars on TV. Loud, dark, and crowded, but oh so scene! Funny thing is that while far from Japanese the sushi and whatnot isn't bad (deep-fried sushi is very Louisianan). It's not what one orders, but what one must negotiate to order it that makes for a three-star review.
google avatar

Dawn H.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place. The staff is so friendly and helpful with suggestions off the menu. The food is great and never a long wait.

Chen Q.

Yelp
The beef teriyaki at the sushi restaurant was a standout! Tender and flavorful, it exceeded my expectations. The balance of sweet and savory in the teriyaki sauce complemented the beef perfectly. The portion size was generous, and the dish was served promptly. Overall, a delightful experience.

Yelp
I ordered a cherry blossom roll, crab and avocado salad and seaweed salad to be delivered via Uber. Instead of the $20,45 cherry blossom roll I received a much cheaper salmon avocado roll. I called to rectify the problem. Was told that they would send me a cherry blossom roll. It didn't arrive. I love the Sake Cafe, but don't think I can trust them with deliveries.
google avatar

Gamer K.

Yelp
The sushi was so fresh and so delicious even the garnish tasted good NOLA my home town and every time I'm back I gotta check in with Sake anyway the sushi was so fresh you could eat this one salmon piece completely raw now the personally me and the workers don't have any talk time they bring my food they keep it strictly professional nothing below or above that but it's a great first date kinda place I recommend
google avatar

Adrianna C.

Yelp
The cherry blossom roll was so good we ordered a second one. All of the sushi was fabulous and always consistent. Service is always friendly as well.

Yelp
On Magazine Street near Washington Ave., I don't go here much because it is on the opposite end of town for me, but every time I do end up making it here I leave satisfied and happy! You know what makes me REALLY happy? Happy Hour! half-priced alcohol form 3-6pm daily. Plus a few appetizer and sushi options at great savings. On our last visit I had some wonderfully done rolls. The Vegetable roll had pickled carrots, lettuce, avocado and pickled onion...AMAZING! I also got a California roll, both "basic sushi" but both were done SO WELL! (and under $4 at happy hour!). The calamari was perfectly fired with a nice sweet and spicy dipping sauce. We also tried the goat cheese gyozi which I would skip next time. They have a small amount of outdoor seating, which was lovely to watch the action on Magazine Street, but also REALLY LOUD on a Saturday afternoon. The indoor dining is wonderfully spacious and beautifully decorated. ADDED BONUS: lots of free parking in a private lot adjacent to the building.
google avatar

Mari D.

Yelp
This review is really 4.5 stars. We lucked out on a busy Saturday night. We walked in and there was a no show so we got seated right away! The restaurant has very nice decor. I split a large warm sake with my friend. We also split a screaming shrimp and shrimp tempura appetizer across the table. I liked the tempura, the batter wasn't too heavy! The screaming shrimp was also tasty and my friend took the sauce home. I got the spicy tuna roll and hamachi nigiri. The fish was decent quality. I got a poke salad to go. I was a little disappointed they didn't offer ice cream, just the tempura ice cream. Overall, service was ok but the food hit the spot for me. I've been missing Japanese food from home and Sake Cafe was great. I definitely want to come back for happy hour!
google avatar

Jono B.

Yelp
Sushi here was good. And they give you good sized portions. Lots of rolls to choose from too. Mango rice was good albeit steep price at $8 (I know inflation is happening everywhere though). Service was great. I have no complaints.
google avatar

Alicia M.

Yelp
Hmmm, where do I start? I've been to another Sake Cafe location and wasn't impressed, but figured I'd give this location a try since someone suggested it for happy hour. I'll start with the positive things: free and ample parking, beautiful restaurant interior, nice ambiance, and amazing service! Now on to the food. I had the chicken spring rolls, crunchy roll and pan seared dumplings. They had some great happy hour specials, but everything tasted meh. I was expecting more of a flavor explosion in my mouth and a couple of pieces of avocado in my crunchy roll were starting to turn brown. It was only $4, so I didn't eat it. It was interesting that they only had low sodium soy sauce. I think if I had the regular soy sauce, it could have helped some. The value was good for the price, but this place isn't for me.

Tah K.

Yelp
For the love of god clean those chandeliers! Decent food, but the decor is very tired and worn. Those chandeliers are priceless, and they have maybe NEVER been cleaned (for the record, there is a spray product available ).

Samet G.

Yelp
I've been living in New Orleans for 3 years and I've been to sakesushi 100 times. I came back on 02/21/24 at 19:00 and the waiter was racist to me, he didn't bring me my food in 1 hour, he looked at me from a distance and asked me questions and was rude, I'm not happy about this situation, can you please do something about it?
google avatar

Anne F.

Yelp
I moved across country and tonight I find myself wishing I was a Kardashian so I could get Spicy Yellow Dragon and Banana Rolls shipped to me. Or at the very least hop on Kim's jet for dinner lol. For years, this place has been a dinner ritual with a couple of best friends.

Jane F.

Yelp
Terrible service, hidden charges, poor customer service. I recently dined in this restaurant with a group of 9. Although we were a large group there were only 2 other tables that had guests. There seemed to be only one waitress. once we received our food, she was so quick to drop everything off that she never asked if we had everything. We were missing items for our order. Then my husband ordered more food because his portion was so tiny. the entire group ate and we waited over 25 minutes and he still hadn't received his food. We had someone leave the table to go find our waitress who was blatantly playing games on our phone, asked where his food was and jumped up to put it in. She had the nerve to say the chefs were backed up. Like I said there was only 2 other tables that had guests. I asked if we could get it removed because of how late it took, and she said he received it and the chefs were backed up. I still had missing items, my husbands food was so late we were literally asking for the check and waiting on his two pieces of food he ordered. Also the menu specials listed are false advertising. They list a 2 roll special for $17.50. They charge you $28. This goes for all their items, they increased all the charges but not the menu. Also on their menu it says groups over 6 people will be charged a gratuity rate of 18% the receipt has 20% as the charge. They are literally adding $20-30 extra per guest And then when you address it they are not helpful and just say that is what the charge is. This is a big tourist place and I just want other people to get ripped off. Inflation is bad enough without restaurants trying to add additional fees. This is not how you value your customers or represent your brand as a company. Deceitful, unprofessional, do not recommend.
google avatar

Faye M.

Yelp
Usually our favorite uptown go-to but today was pretty awful. It started when we asked for outdoor seating for 6 and were told parties of more than 4 cannot sit outside. Now we have done this for years, so it came as a shock. The hostess reasoning was," Because the patio is small and we have to be sure everyone can enjoy it." Wait- you mean everyone except a party of 6? Or any more than 4? Very confused. Our waitress whom introduced herself as Rebecca (but my receipt said Claire) was just awful. Very frazzled, having trouble focusing. She was trying, that was obvious but they had only just opened and weren't even that busy. My food was out before my soup and salad. We had to ask for things numerous times. Never a complaint about the food though!!! This has been our favorite spot for years, but if we can't sit on the patio with friends AND service sucks, not sure we will go again.

Tyler W.

Yelp
Place is empty and yet the service is awful. Brought out 1 main roll, then the apps, and then a 40 min gap for the next main roll. Never was checked on or given any refills in over an hour. Again, the place is practically empty. It's also very dirty (see picture) The food is ok at best. With much better options uptown, we will never return.
google avatar

Jeni V.

Yelp
What a lovely experience here. Walked in 30min before closing and was still able to get food service. Sat at the bar, bartender was excellent. Zane was very professional, knowledgeable, and attentive. Cocktails were good, but the Salmon app with Crab meat was outstanding. Thank you for your hospitality.
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite sake locations! It's on magazine st so it's in the mix of a bunch of cool places to be. The happy hour is from 3-6 and the drinks are half off. Can't really beat good sushi and cheap cocktails! I love coming here when it's not too hot and sitting outside. Every time i sit outside I see someone I know walking pass lol. Oh and if you go here you have to get the pineapple fried rice. It is BOMB! I've tried it at the other sakes and they don't compare at all
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
Update your website. Update hours outside of restaurant. Update a lot. Y'all are so unreliable
google avatar

Eve B.

Yelp
Sake Cafe Uptown is one of my absolutely FAVORITE sushi places in NOLA. Conveniently located on Magazine St., the lunch bento box is to die for and can easily be made vegan! (Ask for all veg tempura, seaweed salad instead of gyoza, and avo/cucumber rolls instead of California.) Hot sake there is great and we absolutely love the staff and ambience. I highly recommend Sake Cafe Uptown for vegans and non vegans! Best miso soup around!!
google avatar

Brooke B.

Yelp
"Sake" was one of my mom's favorites. Her go to for sushi in NOLA. So Tuesday after I modeled for Blue Easel Art Club I stopped by in honor of my momma. Sat at the bar, JOHN was awesome. Ran into my ol'friend Snow and of course the never bored tina was amazing. I tried the the goat cheese gyoza, it was good, a lil dry but something different. I wish they would bring back the sushi bullet. It was my ALLtime favorite.

Kyle A.

Yelp
Service in this establishment is unacceptable. I was the only customer in there and waited 45min for what amounted to 3 to-go appetizers.

Yelp
Hoping to rekindle our old love of this place, we tried Sake Café again last night and were pretty disappointed. For starters, it seems like there are more waiters and greeters than actual patrons, which is weird. They are all super-high energy, spiffily dressed and eager young employees, to be sure. Yet... the service is S-L-O-W for some reason. For example, our order, consisting of soup, entree and one beverage, too over 40 minutes to fully arrive. Only then did we realize we'd probably be leaving hungry, because the portion sizes are kinda small. Whereas other Japanese restaurants include things like soup and salad with their Sushi Dinner, not here. Everything is "a la carte". So right out of the chute, you're paying $7-10 more for your meal than anywhere else. The kicker is that the Sushi Dinner is basically 2 tuna, 2 salmon, a couple of others thrown in (including FAKE CRAB, which is a travesty) and a tiny glass with cubes of the same fishes topped by a single butterflied shrimp. Likewise, the $14(!!) Rising Sun Roll - says the menu, "California Roll Inside Topped with Fresh Salmon & Spicy Mayo, Baked & Garnished with Crispy Rice Noodle on Top" - is not only puny, but really not satisfying in flavor either. Regrettably, my dinner guest mistook "Fresh Salmon" for ... FRESH (raw) SALMON, but no... it's cooked. The result is far less enjoyable. Yes, they've nancied the place up nicely and everything is neat and clean (with the exception of a mysterious pile of dirty dishes left standing near the entryway for the duration of our meal, wtf?), but we won't be going back.

Kim G.

Yelp
Ron is the best server we've ever encountered at Sake. Very knowledgeable, social and expedient. He makes this place great!
google avatar

Sara L.

Yelp
Visiting here from Chicago. I had the chicken fried rice, it was very dry and no taste! The chicken was cut in thin strips making it difficult to eat and this too was dry. I've always had the meat cut in small pieces that blended in with the rice and other ingredients. The sushi was just ehh. Sorry not a fan.
google avatar

Ellery D.

Yelp
Okay, Sake Cafe. I'm once again updating my rating. I decided to give you guys another chance the other night and brought a friend in (mostly since you stay open later than the rest of the early birds on Magazine), and we both enjoyed our dinner very much. She said it was the best sushi she's had in NOLA, and my roll was certainly excellent too. Also, props on the tempura. Delicious, especially the dipping sauces! Our server was fast and pleasant and had no problem honoring the free drink through Yelp check-in, so I ended up with a glass of rather choice chardonnay. Glad my last negative experience was just a fluke, because I really do enjoy your food, location, and ambiance.

Yelp
You ever go to a happy hour spot and think "how the hell have I not been here before?" Well, that was me on yesterday when I visited Sake Cafe for the first time. I stopped by for sushi as I had a craving all weekend and wanted to try a new spot. Once I saw the happy hour sign outside, I knew that it only made sense to get a drink or two! Y'all, cocktails are half priced during happy hour. Meaning drinks that are $8.50 are $4.25. Even Michael Jackson can't beat it. (RIP legend) And before you assume you're getting a watered down drink for that price, think again. Because the drinks have a nice strong kick to them. I got a Mangotini which has mango puree in it and a Samurai Strawberry Kiss. The vanilla vodka and strawberry flavors mesh together sooo well. On to the rolls: Their sushi is fresh and they have some pretty creative rolls. I like to stick to the rivers and the lakes that I'm used to, so I usually go for rolls with seafood I already enjoy. I grabbed the New Orleans Roll with Crawfish, Avocado, & Crunchy Inside, Snow Crab & Spicy Tuna on Top with Wasabi Tobiko & Eel Sauce. Dee-lish. The Wasabi Tobiko was my favorite addition to the roll, hands down. The HH menu also boasts a few rolls and appetizers, so I also grabbed a crawfish roll and some steamed shrimp shumai. Both of which were great quality. If you're stopping by for HH (3pm-6pm) to dine-in, watch the breakdown: $4.25 cocktails $2.75 small hot sake - $4.75 large hot sake $3.25 house wine $2.75 draft beer $3.75 sushi and sashimi/hand rolls

Yelp
This is an awesome date spot. It's fancy enough to dress up but chill enough to wear jeans. The happy hour is unbeatable. Peruse the dozens of autographed photos from celebrities who have dined there. Great parking lot too- just remember to give the host your license plate number.

Yelp
I love sushi and I will pay for great fish without complaint. We go out expecting to spend money and we have no issue with it. I can't even believe the experience we had here. The interior, as always, was beautiful. Visually it's a very classy place suitable for casual or business lunch and dinner. The sushi and the rolls? Not so much. Our Crunchy Roll was not crunchy. In fact, I took a closeup so you can see that I'm not exaggerating. We didn't complain because we were starving and also, the employees we encountered were all miserable. (We had no problem overhearing their various conversations, the place was empty.) The salmon on the Tiger Roll was sliced so thinly it looked like it was melting/dripping against the rice. The Special Box itself was all rice with translucent tuna on a few of the pieces. I won't go back. The employees aren't happy and the food tastes like it.

Yelp
Went here the other night for dinner because we wanted sushi. Super happy with the convenience of the parking lot. No complaints - other than the menu is just too long and complicated. We just wanted sushi anyway and didn't feel like studying 3 pages of menu. Ended up asking our server what the best rolls were. She recommended the cherry blossom & something else. We ended up getting that one and the lava roll. Both were fresh and delicious. Our server was also on top of our drinks so all & all pleasant experience. Like I said, awesome spot for sushi but my suggestion is to simplify the menu.

Yelp
Whenever we're staying in town a few days, I always scope out and prep-plan meals at places outside the main tourist hubs. This was a fabulous find! We ordered two apps - ribs and calamari, spouse got a sashimi salad with a sushi roll for his entree, and I opted for the Akita Snapper with a cup of dumpling soup and can happily report that each and every dish was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was a doll, super sweet, attentive, and proficiently kept our dinner moving at a nice pace. The beautifully designed dining room with low lighting scores big points for me and was a major factor in choosing this establishment. The one negative point I have is that this was one of just a few places I had on my itinerary for dinners. The other place I had planned for this particular night ended up getting booked up before I could make our reservations, so, prior to the day of, I quickly checked Sake Cafe's website to get their number to book us there. Their site has a reservation booking service that I used and was able to get my preferred time for two reserved, no problem. When we got there, however, the hostess didn't have us down. I showed her my reservation confirmation and she told me that they don't use the link on the site anymore. This would have been good to know ahead of time. In the meantime, when we got there there were already parties inside and outside waiting to be seated. After the reservation debacle, our hostess said she'd go ahead and seat us but we did have to wait 10-15 minutes, and our booth was tucked away in a corner where the rest of the dining room and the bar area is not visible which was very disappointing. Other than that one minor glitch with waiting + ultimate table location, our dinner was perfectly enjoyable, delectable, and memorable.

Yelp
Made a reservation and then was seated. Our waiter didn't come to our table for 25 minutes, and our drinks took another 15 minutes. We almost missed happy hour because it took so long. I got the Lychee Martini and it was so strong I couldn't drink it. Rolls were boring and nothing special. Overall very disappointed.

Yelp
Got there as soon as they opened and was greeted and seated immediately, needed a place with parking on magazine which I really hard to come by and this was the spot! Usually me and the coworkers come for their bada** happy hour but lunch specials are also A1 here. Food We got rolls, believe tiger, rainbow, hard rock. The quality of the rolls were great. Nothing looked like they rolled it with a 2 year old behind the bar and everything was presented in a very pleasing manner. The rolls themselves huge portions and super great! Nice combo of flavors and also great service. The bar is definitely something to check out, the bartenders are super nice and helpful considering they probably have a ton of tourists foot traffic but their drinks have neger disappointed me at all!

Yelp
Had the lycheetini and the magotini and they were SO YUMMY! Ordered some appetizers which didn't disappoint at all! The house sauce is something I've never tasted before and LOVED! Bartender was awesome too

Yelp
Its a good restaurant as far as the food, but their customer service is terrible. Today I talked to a supervisor about money being added to the tip from one particular waitress. The manager did nothing in terms of discounting my meal or anything else. Just that he would speak to the waitress I had referred to. I think he and the waitress are related, because I don't think anything is going to result of my complaint.

Yelp
We called the restaurant to see if they could seat 2 of us if we arrived in the next 15 min. We were told that they absolutely could so we headed over. We arrived about 12 min later and we were told that there would be a 30 min wait. We looked into the dining room and saw many available tables and many open spots at the sushi bar. We told the 2 ladies that we were happy to sit at the sushi bar. We were told that we could not sit there either. I asked why we were told to head over 12 min prior and that they had many open tables. I was told there had been a "wave of people who had just walked in." I asked where these people were because I saw so many available tables. She did not respond. The evening turned out to be very nice however when we left. We went to TSUNAMI and had a fantastic meal with amazing service.

Yelp
I went here for a business lunch and was pleasantly surprised. (I had read some of the low rated reviews) This establishment has off street parking which is great because it's hard to find parking on Magazine St. The hostess greeted us right away and we were sat immediately. The restraunt itself is beautiful inside. I ordered the Beef Teriyaki, Miso soup and a salad. Everything was delicious and fresh. The guest I was with ordered stuffed salmon and it looked delicious. It was nicely plated. Our server checked on us frequently and was very nice. She seemed genuinely interested in ensuring we had a great experience. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have a higher rating as their food and service is impeccable!
