I hadn't been back to this dynamic Thai restaurant since I joined the Yelp family and I was hoping one thing had improved; the parking. But woe to the lunchtime diner, anyway; the tiny strip center that houses this terrific place has the same busy businesses that pack the little dedicated parking lot. In addition, the streets are full of cones and signs telling you where you can't park at the intersection where other popular spots like Jimmy's Food Store, Dallasite Billards and Mai's Vietnamese Restaurant are located here at Bryan and Fitzhugh.
I got lucky just before noon and found a side street spot close to Sakhuu and popped in to find them not all that busy. I can't imagine why. They have an incredible M~F Lunch Special Menu. For $11 you have a choice of multiple beverages, several appetizers and numerous entrees with meat choices. A bargain.
Sakhuu is known for their stuffed chicken wings. We've had those and never made it to our entrees. They were were big, beautiful and satisfying. We couldn't stop eating them and ended up stuffed ourselves.
Today I picked the Thai iced coffee, the chicken fried eggrolls and one of my favorites, Pad Kee Mow (chicken) with those velvety unctuous thick flat rice noodles. I was torn, though. Chicken Larb was also an option.
In all Sakhuu had 23 entree choices with pork, chicken, beef, ground chicken, tofu and veggie options for the $11, shrimp for $14. You could also add fried egg $1, sub brown rice $1 and get a side of steamed veggies for $3. There were 7 different ways to have an appetizer! That's a lot of variety and bang for your lunchtime buck.
My eggrolls were tasty crunchy crispy! The Pad Kee Mow portion was huge and I took half of it home. Nice and spicy, it was perfect for a cold day and so very good. I also got a to go cup for the rest of my sweet Thai coffee and I was one happy diner. Service was gracious and prompt. However, I am taking away a star for parking. There is no security and I honestly think Sakhuu is established enough in this neighborhood to find a better spot for their customers. The food is worth the trouble, though! You will love it!
