I'm giving this place 5 stars based on what's available in Kumamoto in terms of shopping malls.
Location: accessible by various public transit options, car, taxi, and located in central Kumamoto. Tsuruya (higher-end shopping mall) is within walking distance (about 15min away). You're also right beside the awesome shimotori strip which gives travelers much to explore. There are often really fun events around this mall/area. Most recently they had a Taiwanese festival, a Christmas market, a ramen festival, Japanese pro wrestling (Kumamoto Jo Hall), flower festival, to name some.
Mall: Inside the mall itself, nothing too crazy, there's enough food ranging from cheap food court snacks, to delicious ramen and higher-end J-BBQ like jojoen (expensive but delicious) and sushi. There's a wide range of shops for gifts and shopping.
Extras: there's a kumamon village with exclusive kumamon merch. On the 5th floor is a giant kumamon for you to take pictures with (it also moves/waves I believe once per hour). 7th floor has an extremely nice outdoor garden/play space/walking trail that is wonderful for tourists and travelers of all ages. Right now, they're doing a night time light up even once it gets dark (paid entry).
Summary: lots to do, easy access to other places great for families, feels safe. Gatcha machines, arcade, Children's indoor playground are all also available. My pictures don't do justice.
