28 Classic Restaurants Every Montrealer Must Try | Eater Montreal

"The location in a relatively ugly high-rise apartment building may not be glamorous, but Sakura is a Montreal sushi classic — it might not compete with newer, perma-hot destinations like Park, but it also won’t set you back 150-ish dollars, and it does a fine job. Reportedly a family favourite of Justin Trudeau, open since 1973." - Tim Forster

The food is so authentic and of large portions. I will definitely come again to try other dishes. I guess it is better if they can include some pictures on their menus.

Authentic Japanese restaurant. Really fresh. Quality fish and rice. Nothing compared to the other ones that just wants to sell a ball of low quality rice with a little bit of some cheap fish inside. This place is real.

Very good atmosphere. The food was of good quality. I loved their sukiyaki has the ingredients were fresh and taste on point. Most surprisingly, they had one of the best rice I’ve ever eaten, and considering my origin, it says something! Service was good, although not the fastest. But you have to be understanding as all the server (that I’ve seen), were older Japanese ladies, which gave this place a bit more authenticity appeal. But also slows down the speed. As for price, I would say it’s on the pricier side, for the food that you’re eating. I would say that a reduction in price of about 10% would be great.

Highly underrated place. Delicious authentic Japanese food in a low-key setting and at a very reasonable price point. Salivating just writing about it!

The sushi is fresh and responsible. The house sake is in a reasonable price. But the Pinot noir is not a good selection for a Japanese restaurant you should not ask for more. The non-convenience is the restroom. It’s far away from the restaurant. Tried both miso and salad but I like the eggplant 🍆 better

This used to be my all time favorite sushi place. Their kamikaze was the best in town, and relatively affordable. The restaurant suffered some bad fortune as it had to move several times due to landlords kicking them out to make jewelry stores on de la Montagne. Perhaps that has affected the overall quality and price rises. Their kamikaze still holds a special place in my taste memory.

If you would like to experience real Japanese meals in Montreal, this is where you must go. Japanese in Montreal reccomends Sakura. Importantly, cheff is from Japan. Bento is great too.

Very authentic, humble staff, great good. They serve soup, dessert and tea (not sure, I did not get any) with their main courses, which explains the price.
