"Hotelier Arne Lugeon and his wife were captivated by traditional Khmer houses on stilts with intricate carvings, which inspired the creation of Sala Lodges, a hotel composed of authentic Khmer houses brought from various parts of Cambodia. Each house, with its own history and previous owners ranging from carpenters to army barracks, provides a unique experience of traditional Cambodian living, updated with modern comforts. The hotel emphasizes local craftsmanship and tradition, and seeks to offer guests an opportunity to experience 'real living' in a luxurious, sensitive upgrade." - Mitchell Friedman

"A love for the lush Cambodian countryside and its charming rural architecture led four Swiss and French friends to open Sala Lodgesin 2012. They amassed 11 stunning examples of the wooden homes on stilts that punctuate the Khmer landscape, hiring carpenters to carefully select, disassemble, transport, and resurrect them on alush village-like property in Siem Reap not far from the temples. Each house has its unique style and story to tell—the oldest ones date to the late 1950s. Antiques, canopied beds, soft lighting, and pastel-hued fabrics, updated with essential modern-day luxuries like air conditioning and rain showers, now fill the majestic structures. Indigenous trees and plants like palm, papaya, and banana trees, and rice fields populated by little frogs and chirping crickets, are an ode to local village life. The generous layout of the rooms and verandas lends a languid atmosphere perfect for taking in the property’s enchanting sights and sounds while contemplating the splendor of Angkor."

Wonderful place, amazing authentic atmosphere of original Khmer wooden houses in a lush garden with a cozy restaurant serving delicious food. The staff is very kind and always eager to assist. The Spa treatments were also perfect. Great and convenient excursions package. The owners make you feel at home in this exotic and stunning resort. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful 3-night stay in house 7 which is the closest to the pool. We arrived at night and were warmly greeted and had a delicious meal at the restaurant before walking into Siem Reap. The owners greeted us the next morning and were charming. We loved the all-wood home with a beautiful deck overlooking the grounds and an equally wonderful huge shower and comfortable bed. Breakfast each morning was delicious and had the only truly French croissants we had on our entire Southeast Asia trip. The owner recommend a local gym which was excellent and a short tuk tuk away. We made use of the hotel laundry service, with everything returned beautifully pressed. The entire staff were ‘over the top’ friendly. We wanted more ‘rustic’ lodging (compared to the name brand 5 star) yet with 5 star food and service and in this and everything else Sala Lodges exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended.

A True Paradise Beyond Expectations My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Sala Lodges from 30 December 2024 to 2 January 2025, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and care that immediately made us feel at home. Simone, the co-owner, along with her husband, demonstrated incredible hospitality. She went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our stay was perfect, and her genuine kindness left a lasting impression on us. The resort itself is nothing short of a paradise. The wooden houses, each a masterpiece of traditional Cambodian handicraft, were stunning and full of character. The thoughtful design of the resort seamlessly blends traditional elements with modern touches, particularly in the restaurant, which beautifully integrates concrete pillars with wooden construction. The saltwater swimming pool was an oasis of tranquility, and the food was exceptional - flavors that delighted us at every meal. Every corner of the property feels like it was designed with intention, offering both relaxation and beauty. The staff were another highlight. Always smiling, incredibly friendly, and attentive to every need, they made our stay even more special. Sala Lodges far exceeded our expectations in every way. It is a unique gem in Siem Reap that we wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking an extraordinary experience. We hope to return someday to this little piece of paradise.

There is only one word to describe Sala Lodges and that is WOW! I have never experienced service quite like I did when staying here. The lodges themselves are beautifully appointed with everything you could ever need from air conditioning, unlimited filtered water, a fabulous rainfall shower and the comfiest of beds. The grounds and pool are beautiful and immaculately kept and the restaurant is a fabulous haven to enjoy a beautiful breakfast or while away an evening enjoying the delicious food. The staff are incredible and spend the whole time going above and beyond to surprise and delight their guests. We were made to feel like ultimate film stars with everything tailored exactly to our needs. They even got their local French baker to make gluten free baguette for one of our party who is gluten free and had oat and soya milk for the vegan in our group. I could write for days about the magical stay we had here, I have been lucky enough to stay in many fabulous hotels across the world and this one is streets ahead of anywhere else I have encountered. Thank you so so much Simone and team xxx

We stayed at Sala Lodges four nights and it was a wonderful experience. The owners and staff are friendly and attentive. The grounds and accommodations are beautiful and welcoming. There is a very nice pool! The restaurant food was good, and as others have noted the breakfasts are excellent! Breakfast is included and they will pack one to go if you have sunrise activities. The mini bar is also free and they seem to stock it once per day with water, soda, and a couple beers. Overall a very nice stay that I would recommend.

From the moment of check-in to the check-out the Sala Lodges team took such good care of us. From the small details in the room and the beautiful grounds (pool and garden) this place is perfect to make your stay in Siem Reap even more memorable. Staying in a traditional Khmer house is a beautiful way to really immerse yourself in the Cambodian culture and we loved that everyday we had a different coloured juice that links to the Khmer colour of the day (small details that add to the experience). The breakfast is by far the best hotel breakfast we’ve had (we’ve been travelling for over 4 months now) and the team is really lovely - they helped us book activities and our onward bus ticket. Definitely recommend Sala Lodges for your stay in the magical city of Siem Reap if you want a 10/10 experience.

My dad and I have had the privilege of staying a Sala Lodge when he came to visit me in Siem Reap and I could not have been more amazed by this wonderful place. We were delighted by the kind and caring staff who, always with a smile, made sure we were comfortable at any moment and would find solutions for us rapidly when we requested anything. The place is perfect if you like to have privacy and enjoy a luxurious experience. The pool was delightful and we could see that attention had been put in every single little detail. We will for sure be back next time he comes to visit me to enjoy a calm, high quality and esthetically beautiful setting Thank you to the owners for this amazing experience, it will forever be one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at.

The authentic Khmer Lodge is simply beautiful, the grounds are abundant with life and the pool is perfect after a long hot day visiting the temples. The staff are attentive and leave personal touches which really add to the whole experience of making you feel looked after. The food is divine, some of the produce is home grown within Sala Lodge gardens/grounds. We had a wonderful stay, hope to be back soon. Thank you, Sala Lodges, you were perfect.
