"Tacos abound around Salazar Park in East LA, which makes for a worthy stop during election time. But for something just slightly left-of-center, opt instead for the bean and cheese burritos from staple Boyle Heights stand Al & Bea’s. Served hot and fresh from the 54-year-old walk up restaurant, each is a simple, inexpensive reminder of just how great Los Angeles can be, even when times are worrisome. 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Al & Bea’s. 2025 E 1st St, Los Angeles, CA 90033" - Eater Staff
i was surprised upon my arrival at how clean this park was because the nearby streets were not so clean when compared. there is plenty of space available for all kinds of sports like dance, basketball, tennis courts, baseball and a pool! there are plenty of signs showing no smoking which is good to see especially when other people have commented that there is high gang activity in the park area. the bathroom was open but there were a bunch of homeless people hanging out inside and on the outside of the restroom area.

Visited this park yesterday to see the mural by Paul Botello... Unfortunately some disrespectful taggers have vandalized it and it looks as if someone has made an attempt to clean it off. This park is spacious and has lots of trees.. but it would be nice if the city contributed to giving it better maintenance. The sidewalks need a serious power wash; as you're walking along the sidewalk next to the parking lot where the flowers back up to the kid's play area, you get slapped with a smell of urine. It would also be nice if the local police made random stops to keep loiterers (not visitors) off the ground. We were there for 30minutes at least, and saw the same 2 loiterers hanging out in the bathroom! One can only assume they're doing drugs, who stands guard at the door when they aren't doing something bad?... It was also the bathroom next to the kid's play area which makes it worse. The residents of this city pay taxes, they deserve better.

Scrappy Park. Dark and Sinister. Do yourself a favor. Don't bring your kiddies here.

Yelp
Has lots of grassy areas and has two tennis courts (which is what I really go for). The tennis courts are great. The one closest to the street has the most shade and both are generally in good maintenance. Love this park!

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday afternoon after seeing the reviews; gangsters, cholos and violence, which remind me of my hometown haha. However when I got here, I saw kids playing, teens playing basketball, families, even people walking their dogs. The park has definitely improved since those last reviews, the park was peaceful. I pulled out my laptop and did my essay here, no robberies haha.

Yelp
It's a good park I come here usually once a week I've never had a problem with this park for over 13 years the " cholos or addicts " I've never seen one there so it's a great park for kids to go I recommend 100%

Yelp
I'm really surprised that noone has taken the time to review this park!!! Truth is, I grew up down the block 20 years ago and would spent countless hours jogging, watching people playing sports and enjoying my summers cooling off at the pool. I even went on dates here lol I have to say that I've had many fond memories here and to this day, my dad still lives on Alma ave which is the street directly next to the park. Yes, i did witness drive by shootings and violence from time to time but overall this park brings the community together and is an east l.a. landmark that was named after Latino journalist, Ruben Salazar who was decapitated by the incompetence of the LAPD crew that made a bad judgment while he was having a beer at the silver dollar bar. May his legacy live on.
