"A Box Lunch You'll Long Remember Experience culinary time travel—and classic southern flavors. Box lunches include a chicken salad, Smithfield ham or pimento cheese sandwich (among other choices), potato salad, cheese wafer, deviled egg, and a famous upside down iced cupcake, all packed in cardboard boxes tied with string, just as they have been since the 1920s. Try their lemon chess tart, too."

Since 1924, this lunch-only institution has boxed up Richmond’s most nostalgic midday ritual: sandwich, potato or macaroni salad, deviled egg, cheese wafer, and a cupcake. Honored as a James Beard America’s Classic, it’s priceless living history.

I got the chicken salad sandwich and strawberry yellow cake cupcake I ordered online at 11am on a Friday and it was ready in an hour. Parking in their outside lot was easy.

Wonderful experience! Ordered lunch using the easy to navigate menu on website. Lunch was nicely packaged. I enjoyed sandwich, fruit cup and cupcake.

Highly recommend their lunch box. Plenty of food at a fair price, and comes with a cupcake too. We walked in at 10:30 on a Monday and were waited on immediately, no line. Can't wait to come back!

My absolute favorite boxed lunch! Best potato salad I ever had. Everything I've ever eaten here is delicious. I buy their potato salad for my Christmas dinner every year. I can't begin to make it as good as they can 😉

Sally Bell's Box Lunch is the quintessential Southern meal. It comes with your choice of sandwich, 1 side, deviled egg half, cheese wafer (w/ a pecan half on top), and a cupcake or small pie. 🥧 Everything is hand made and quite tasty! 😋 You can taste the love ❤️ in every bite! 🥰 Check ✔️ them out next time you're traveling Broad Street at lunch time and there is a great museum (old train station) across the street.

Tasty little bite -- the portions are small but sufficient. The sandwich is a true "roll", like an oversized dinner roll. But the bread is fresh and soft. The chicken salad had a little kick to it, but it was good. The potato salad was traditionally-Southern, but you only get a small portion of it. The deviled egg was my favorite part of the lunch! I did not taste the little pecan treat; looks suspect. I enjoyed the lemon cupcake -- served inverted without the liner, the frosting was surprisingly, but pleasantly tart. However, the cake was a little dry (somewhat stale). Overall, it was a fair-sized lunch for all of the components offered. I think larger portions would have been overwhelming. Would definitely eat there again.

I had the turkey sandwich box lunch with chips, a taste of potato salad and a chocolate frosting cupcake. < it was soooo good. The turkey was really and not processed meat. And the whole grain bread was soft and yummy. < The potato salad was the best. No store brought weirdness flavor. Taste very homemade. < I never had a cheese wafer but it was interesting to try. > Calling the establishment is the worst with the automatic system. I wish they had maybe one more person just to answer the phone.

There's so much good food in the area for a much better value. $13 and not even a drink? The staff seemed unhappy and annoyed by customers. Everything was so terribly sugary from the bread to the potato salad. No creativity in the food at all. Low end grocery store deli food. And that thing with the pecan on it was soggy and made me regretful that I had wasted my lunch here, but thankful that now I know! I feel a little sick after eating here. Would not recommend.
