Yelp
I've given Sally's Stamford location two shots - once when they opened and a more recent visit - and truthfully found the pizza to be underwhelming, particularly given the turnaround/wait times.
The hype of Sally's means this place is always busy. Definitely recommend a reservation; otherwise, who knows how long you'll be waiting. The ambiance is nice though. Decent bar area and plenty of booths, tables, and high tops.
Now the food - foremost, both times I've went, they tell to expect to wait 30 minutes for a pizza but they should really be saying expect to wait ~at least~ 30 minutes for a pizza. Both visits I probably waited 45 minutes for pizza to hit the table. So def order apps to tide you over to pizza, otherwise you'll be like the table next to us where they wanted to leave and just cancel their order because it was taking too long and the servers just kept saying "I can see your pizzas, they're coming out right now" - and man were they begrudgingly eating that pizza when it came.
Of the pies I've tried:
- Tomato & Mozzarella: Sauce heavy, cheese light. Found it underwhelming, didn't have much flavor. Took a few shakes of the oregano, parm, crushed red pep, etc. on the table.
- Custom, add Meatballs & Onions: Adding on the meats really enhanced the flavor of pie. Much better than just a plain.
- Firebird Pizza (Mozzarella, Sally's tomato sauce, oven roasted chicken, diced sweet and hot peppers, onion): The best one of all the pizzas I tried
I clearly enjoy Sally's better with toppings - some may say even loaded since the Firebird was my favorite - so that's really what drives my consensus that the pizza itself when plain is underwhelming on its own. Not to mention the latter 2 pies I ordered on my second visit, BOTH of them came out a bit burnt on the edges. And you may be telling me 'noooooo ~ that's The CHAR' but honey, the 2 guys I was eating with LOVE a char on their food and even they admitted it was more burnt than char.
Other food - caesar salad, fried mozzarella, and the desserts I actually enjoy more than the pizza experience so I'd prob recommend Sally's for a great apps and drinks location.
But ultimately, long wait, inconsistent and underseasoned pies - is why I'm ultimately not on the Sally's train. Maybe having the chance to try it in New Haven could change my mind but it's unlikely I'll voluntarily hit up Sally's in Stamford again.
