The Best Cantinas in Mexico City | Eater

"In this 1920s-era cantina the loose rule is that for every three drinks you get a free botana — perhaps spicy snails, beef fritters in salsa verde, tuna-stuffed avocado, or tostadas de pata — so after a few rounds the snacks come faster than you can drink, which only keeps the camaraderie and orders of tequila, micheladas, or Cuba Libres flowing." - Rulo David

"A favorite watering hole for locals who frequent the downtown historic district. The classic cantina is similar to a Spanish tapas bar, the purchase of even a single drink comes with free food for the rest of your stay at the cantina. There's even a serenading Mariachi band."

Cheap drinks in a lively atmosphere with friendly service. Food isn’t bad and if you get a few drinks the food is included. As seen on Somebody Feed Phil.

This is for the airport restaurant. The food was excellent and the service top notch.

I loved my time here. We went about an hour before close on a Sunday and then we went back with others on a Friday night. Beer, drinks and food were great. Everyone working was also great and friendly. Everyone was attentive to use when we came. Great atmosphere. Wonderful time here! Visit

A classic, but watch out for the tipping. After you've paid the total bill, including the gratuity, they will try to tell you that there is an additional tip for the food, even if it's already covered. It's an absolute rip-off

Small bar restaurant modeled on several of the more historic cantinas in the Centro Historico. Corner location with doors on both adjoining streets. Service started out great, but then went down hill. Although the place wss not busy, once seated, it was hard to get the servers attention. Servers spent most of their time standing in a gaggle and joking around. Once I finally got a menu, I ordered a beer, which seemed to take a long time to arrive at my table. Then server left and did not take my order. Food on the menu seemed way over priced. A domestic beer cost more than $10.00 US at the current exchange rate. That is almost double what even the best places charge. I got the distinct feeling that I was being ignored by the servers. I finished my beer, went to the cashier, paid for the beer and left, no tip. Will not return. Maybe they didn't like the way I looked or they have had bad experiences with tourists, I do not know, but I had a bad experience here.

This place is unique in that you pay for the drinks, the food is free! A very old watering hole, worth a visit!

Bring earplugs, it’s a very loud place, dress cool in the spring/summer as it’s quite hot inside. Free WiFi is a plus. Tip the food servers apart from the bar servers.

Gets busy and we have tried other cantinas but this one is becoming our go to. We love the atmosphere.
