"Its wooden construction and reddish hue show that it once operated as one of the many salt warehouses facing the São Roque canal (the only one that still preserves its essence today). This setting, not without sophistication, offers a cuisine based on Portuguese gastronomy, incorporating ingredients from the estuary, presented in a modern format with signature touches. Among them, the smoked eel stands out, served with fresh notes and beetroot emulsion, the sea fish accompanied by bivalves from the estuary, and the classic Portuguese style egg nog presented in various textures. The menu features à la carte choices, a 6-course tasting menu, a vegetarian menu, and the “Nas mãos do chef” (“Chef’s Choice”), as well as an executive menu for weekdays!" - Michelin Inspector

Aveiro Is Called the 'Venice of Portugal' — Here's Why

"Plan an upscale evening at Salpoente, a fine-dining restaurant housed in a former salt warehouse. Here, you can dive into stellar seafood like smoked eel and fish filet, which can be enjoyed one by one from the extensive tasting menu." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We recently visited with the gate one tour. The restaurant had nice decor and the staff were friendly. I wasn’t very impressed with the food though. We had the vegetarian entry which was beet rice. Our friends had a pescatarian option which was a seafood rice and our travel companions had beef. No one finished their meals. I suspect the quality may be better when they are not cooking for a large group though.

In a tasteful decor. We all enjoy the Chef selection menu and we totally with Michelin who gave him two years in row a ⭐️. Service of course was excellent!

Fantastic Lunch in a stunningly renovated warehouse. We were greeted with a glass of cava. The steak cooked we. Dessert was out of this world. I would highly recommend! 😊

We enjoyed our food and found it satisfactory, but the overall experience didn’t quite meet our expectations for fine dining. Although the restaurant markets itself for its tranquil atmosphere, we felt somewhat rushed throughout our meal. The service, while attentive, was a bit too eager - the next glass of wine was poured before my partner had finished the previous one, which disrupted the pacing of the evening. Additionally, the staff didn’t offer much insight into the wines being served, and when we inquired about the year of production, our server had to check the details. The transformation of the former salthouses into a dining space is certainly impressive. However, the combination of rather frenetic jazz music and artificial plants detracted from the ambiance, making certain elements feel slightly out of place. Overall, while there were some enjoyable aspects, the experience didn’t fully live up to the restaurant’s fine-dining aspirations.

Fantastic dinner in a stunningly renovated warehouse. We were greeted with a glass of cava. The staff and sommelier were very attentive and expertly timed each course. The smoked eel and beetroot was phenomenal and the veal was done to perfection. Dessert was out of this world. I would highly recommend! 😊

A fine dinening restaurant with the exceptional service! We were delighted by food quality, wine choice (and good pricing), waiters service, beautiful surrounding. Interesting portuguese dishes with restaurant’s adaptation. The building of restaurwnt itself is authentic also very spacious. A truly candidate for Michelin star (supprised that still don’t have it). Highly recommended!

Nice restaurant but a bit overpriced the full experience. Totally for tourists. The service is really not good for being the “best restaurant in town”. The food was good, and that’s it. 50 euros per person without alcohol drinks, and sharing starters.

Honestly hate to be the one blowing against the wind. We had the taste menu (70 euros) plus wine with 6 course. In the scale 1-10 course 1 and 2 8/10 flavor is there but really nothing special. Course 3 the fish is great but the pasta is undercooked but the eel filler has great flavor so 8/10. Course 4, 7/10 is a stretch, meat has no flavor and had a big piece of non chewable nor eatable tendon. I had to spit it back out pretty gross! Course 5 dessert is okay not great more like a cold rollup cake 7/10. Final dessert is pretty much the only course worth 9/10. If just the food it will only worth 3 stars! Yes 3!
