I went to Sal’s neighborhood Pizzeria. It’s located on St. Simons Island near the Harris Teeter at 3415 Frederica Rd, Saint Simons Island, GA 31522. I went on a Tuesday at around 5:30pm. I ordered a coke and Chicken Marsala for dinner. The chicken marsala was seasoned perfectly and has a creamy and slightly sweet taste. I got regular spaghetti with it and the sauce with the spaghetti was such a great combo. For dessert I got a slice of the Italian lemon cream cake, it was moist and the cream in it was rich in lemon flavor but not too overbearing.
The location is not the easiest to find, I had a little trouble with my GPS finding the parking lot. It may also confuse some people that you have to walk through a walkway between the buildings in the parking lot to get there. The surrounding neighborhood is very nice which is expected on St. Simon’s island. There was lots of traffic since I left at 4:50 to get to Sals. The outside of the building has shrubs against the screened in outside eating area. There’s the entrance door and a sign pointing to the other side of the building if you wanted to order something to go.
They played a lot of Frank Sinatra which gives me nostalgic feeling of being back home in New York. The lighting is not bright, the lights are dimmed. There’s a lot of pictures hanging up of boxers and famous people, people in Italy. Also paintings on the wall of Italian buildings. I’d say this place attracts all kinds of people. Young people on a date, young men and women who want to grab a drink, Older couples and families. Seems like a very family oriented place. I had a family offer me a slice of their own pizza while I was waiting for my food which was so incredibly sweet of them.
The menu is moderately priced considering it’s an Italian restaurant. They have appetizers labeled as “Antipasta” which if you didn't know is Italian for appetizers. They have quite a selection to choose from including Homemade Bruschetta, fried ravioli, garlic or cheese bread on focaccia, chicken wings, etc. They have different salads to choose from a house, Caesar, Greek, or Caprese Salad. You can add protein or pick different dressings or cheeses you want with it. There are Sub Sandwiches that are a great lunch option served with a side of chips, tater tots, fries or onion rings. They have a pasta section including Pomodoro with a choice of pasta, Cheese, Meat, Spinach, or Lobster Ravioli. Also Baked Ziti, etc. For entrees you will find Chicken or eggplant parmigiana, Meat Lasagna, or seared salmon with broccoli or creamy risotto, etc. For a regular 14” pie it’s $16.45. A slice is $5.75 and each topping is .75 cents. The bill including tip was $48.98 . It is not a dress up place, I'd say, very casual unless you’d like to dress up a little bit.
The staff were incredibly friendly and my waitress very helpful with any questions I had on the different items on the menu. She was willing to answer any questions about the menu. The service was not that quick because everything is made from scratch. From observing other people ordering pizza, it takes about 10-15 minutes to get a whole pizza.
To be fair, considering I grew up in New York and went to authentic Italian restaurants and pizza shops my whole life this place has a decent menu selection. They have
