The Best Restaurants on St. Simons Island and Brunswick in Georgia | Eater Atlanta

"Founded by New Jersey native and professional boxer turned pizza slinger Sal Cenicola, Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria is said to have the best pies on the island. In addition to New York-style pizzas, Sal’s also offers heaping bowls of pasta, sandwiches, including a giant meatball sub, and calzones aptly named “salzones”." - Eater Staff

Sals is the place to go on Saint Simon’s to satisfy your pizza craving after a Long Beach day! They open late in the afternoon but it is worth the wait if you like thin crust pizza. They are extremely generous on their meat pizza and the sauce is great!

🍕 Couldn’t Stop Going Back! 🍝 Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria serves some of the best New York style thin-crust pizza I’ve ever had. The crust is soft but with a oven-baked richness, and the cheese and toppings merge together beautifully (whether good old fashioned cheese or a specialty pizza like their “Meaty Treaty,” you can’t go wrong). Don’t overlook the entrees! The Baked Ziti is to die for. I don’t know what magic they put in their house made sauce blend but it keeps me coming back for more. End things off with a delicious dessert (Italian Lemon Cake was fabulous!). The interior is a bit tight, but they also have outdoor seating available. It’s a must-eat spot at St. Simon’s!

Google
Had a good experience at this pizza spot! It’s tucked away, and you can’t really see it from the road or the parking lot, which sort of gives it a “hole in the wall” local feel. The pizza was filling and tasted great. I also highly recommend the bourbon wings! The only bad part was that the bus boy/waiter or guy who cleaned up our dishes kept giving us dirty looks and acted extremely irritated for some reason. Other than that, it was a great local Pizza/wings spot! There is not much room inside at all, so don’t bring a large party with you. Definitely cram packed in there. But again, cool little vibe. I’d go again for sure!

Google
Best eggplant parm sandwich I’ve ever had! The sauce was the perfect amount of sweet and savory, the bread was incredibly soft and the eggplant was perfectly breaded. Very large order for the price, and the girl at the pick-up window was very nice (and wasn’t aggravated when I took a few minutes to ask questions). Excellent food!

Google
Sal’s was great! I ordered the lasagna, which was very good and had a nice, robust tomato sauce. The breadstick on the side was nice with the sauce and had hints of rosemary. I also tried the Marshal (white) pizza and it was good as well. However, the standout was definitely the cheese pizza. It had deliciously salty cheese and great chewy crust. I really enjoyed this pizza and would love to have it again!

Google
Perfect little Italian joint! We have been a few times. Pizza is ALWAYS great. We love to try their specials. Recently had meatball mozzarella skewers as an app that were amazing! And a pesto gnocchi that was incredible! Service is always wonderful. It's tiny and pretty tight quarters but it is the perfect little spot for great Italian food!

Google
Sadly, this is mid pizza at best. Apparently the place has gone downhill since Sal passed and new owners took over. Growing up in Jersey I know NJ pizza, and this ain’t it. Shame I didn’t get to experience it in its prime. Place had rave reviews and it’s really neat inside, just wish the food could’ve lived up the hype.

Google
The pizzas are delicious, the staff is friendly, this is important, and the cocktails are also enjoyable.

Yelp
Neat pizza place on SSI that offers pastas, salads and apps with a wine and beer selection that's nice. New ownership that has done a wonderful job. Wait staff is very attentive and eager to take care of you. Good food, service, atmosphere & comfortably casual.

Yelp
We placed a pick up order over the phone. Our order was a supreme pizza and a garlic bread. They had our pizza ready in about 15/20 mins and was ready when I went in to pick it up. It was a little hard to find. I seemed to come in from behind the restaurant between two buildings but it did look like a larger parking lot on the other side. The pizza was good and not greasy.

Yelp
Fabulous service and amazing food! Perfect after a long day at the beach, easy to order to by phone and pick up at the window! Couldn't recommend more!

Yelp
Sal's pizzeria is a local staple. The food is always so delicious and hot. It's like a party in your mouth every time you eat here. The service is always great and friendly. The cozy environment is always welcoming. You really feel like your at family's house. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Very good pizza, and cute outdoor seating. The service was adequate and the menu options were numerous. While it was a positive experience it was definitely way too expensive for a pizza joint.

Yelp
I'm an Eggplant Parmigiana junkie and I definitely do not recommend this dish. The waiter told me, after I finished what eggplant there was ( mostly breading, tomato and thick cheese), that they do not make it in-house. My husband had pizza and we split a salad (not included with the entree) and both were "okay". The sangria was tasty but warm. The waiter was very good.

Yelp
Best Margherita pizza on the island! Love their ranch! Staff is always friendly. Love that we can bring our fur baby and sit outside!

Yelp
Horrible pizza ! Will never order here again!! Burned crust and we got the wrong pizza .
google avatar

Yelp
Damien was a great server super friendly however the garlic bread was freezer burnt Texas toast. Espresso martini was drip coffee. Olive Garden has better tiramisu. The pasta tasted like rubber

Yelp
Sal's is a staple when it comes to our trips to this area. The food is simply amazing! The limited experience we have had in with the staff has been good, we have no complaints here. We usually get Sal's on our arrival day when we want something good, fast and easy. Sal's never disappoints in any of these circumstances. When getting Sal's pizza, be sure to bring your Big Boy appetite, you'll need it.

Yelp
Excellent pizzas and calzones. The chicken parmesan is one of the best I've had. And, the garlic cheese bread is a must. I've heard the salads are really good too, but haven't tried them. I've been going to Sal's for a while and they did go through a rough patch with new ownership transition, but as far as I can tell with my last few visits, they seem to be back up to the old standard. Glad to see it. The customer service is very good too. The patio or the bar seating are my preferred spots.

Yelp
Sal departed this Earth in August 2021 but the excellence continues in his absence. We stopped in for dinner and thought we'd try entrees we hadn't ordered heretofore. Behold, the garlic based spinach ravioli and, the US Marshal / FLETC pizza entree pictures below. Both dishes were quite tasty and very different from tomato based dishes. Go and enjoy. The quality at Sal's still prevails.

Yelp
This place was great! I went with three friends and we split a margherita pizza, two salads and a chicken Marsala. The medium pizza was plenty for three of us. I love ricotta on pizza so the addition on the margherita was great. Crust had good flavor and was thin and tender with a crispy crust. The home made salad dressings were delicious. Although I didn't try the Marsala, it smelled great and was a good portion. Staff was friendly and efficient. The restaurant was busy on a Friday. I was too hungry for pictures! Would recommend!

Yelp
Sal's is best pizza on the Island!! If you don't know now you know!! We came in and had pizza , two sandwiches, breadsticks and a cannoli! Every bite was phenomenal! Fresh and authentically delicious. Our server was very attentive and the ambiance was great. A little pizza place that appears to have stood test of time and loyalty, it's no wonder why.

Yelp
The service was amazing from the moment I stepped through the door and the food was absolutely delicious!

Yelp
We were checking out different restaurants in the Brunswick area and decided to give Sal's a try. We were happily with our decision. The restaurant is tucked back from the road and parking lot. It offers seated indoors and out. For our evening there, we sat outside. We were waited on promptly. Although it took some time to get our drink orders, the food orders came out promptly. One of my dining companions raved about his Caprese salad. It looked good enough that I wished I had ordered one. However, when our deep fried appetizer sampler (on special) came out, I knew I'd leave full. The mozzarella sticks and deep fried ravioli were fantastic. The zucchini straws were somewhat bland but tasted pretty good with the side of marinara sauce. We got the large deluxe pizza. It easily fed three adults. I loved the crust and sauce. The toppings were good but were my least favorite part of the pie. My friend ended his meal with a cannoli from the dessert menu. For three guys; pizza, drinks, an appetizer, salad and dessert ran $90 (tip included). We thought that was pretty reasonable. We agreed to stop at Sal's if future trips permitted!

Yelp
It's been some time since I have been to Sal's, and I was a bit disappointed on this recent visit. I didn't realize Sal sold the place, but it makes sense. We all ordered pizza, and they came out relatively quick, but the tops were cooked, and the bottoms were almost raw. So, when you picked up a slice, the think just flopped, and you had to cut it up on a plate! They were extremely busy, so I'll assume the guy working the oven wasn't letting the oven wasn't moving the pies around to make sure the stone was getting hot enough. I may try it again, but I will ask them to make sure the pie is more well done on the bottom.

Yelp
Great stop for lunch. The slice of pizza was extra large and loaded with toppings. The meatball sub was tasteful and came out very hot. We even had the garlic cheese bread and it was good as well. The waitress was very polite and quick. She also ensured our water was topped off. This is a do again place.

Sooooo goood!!! First time eating here and it did not disappoint!! Would come back again!!

Yelp
since the first time i ate here in 2013, Sals Pizza has always been STELLAR. growing up in NY, it's really hard to find authentic pizza that just brings me back. this place has always been known for great service and an extremely inviting atmosphere. fast forward to 2023 and i am now Gluten Free - it's been a few years since I've been back and pizza is like a GF persons worst nightmare.. My husband and I are on vacation celebrating our wedding anniversary at a nearby resort and I learned that Sals offered a GF crust. now if you are reading this wondering if they are your normal, run of the mill boxed cauliflower crust.. it definitely looks that way. BUT THE FLAVOR. is spectacular. if you're GF you know how rare it is that it doesn't just taste like toasted & crunchy, thin-crust dough. it has that brick stone hint and delicious flavor all around. not to mention, the GF pizza is CHEAPER than all the other sizes. imagine that... a restaurant not forcing profit off of our allergy to gluten! very rare and very satisfied with this return to the restaurant. 10/10, highly recommended!! P.S. I had absolutely zero reaction to my pizza so I'd say they take the cross contamination very seriously!

Yelp
Ordered take-out one evening an hour before closing. Super nice people and good service. Once we got the pizza home, we found out that they gave us the wrong pizza. One pizza was correct but the other was totally a different pizza. Good flavor and lots of cheese but not what we had ordered.
google avatar

Beverly S.

Yelp
Employees were very friendly. Probably the worst pizza I ever had. The bottom of the crust was burnt and the top was so saturated with sauce the pizza just flopped. We ordered the pizza to be ready at 4:45 pm as we had an appointment for photos to be taken that evening. We arrived and it wasn't ready. They forgot to grease a pan and the pizza stuck to it and fell apart. This was the outcome of the second batch. We ordered 3 different pizzas and nobody like theirs. The place was packed the night before so we thought we would give it a try. Very disappointed, never finished the pie. We grabbed something after our photos. Giving it a 3 based on the friendly employees.

Yelp
Food was pretty good overall. I had the sausage and peppers and onions and thought it was delicious. My wife had the lasagna and it was pretty good too. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and chicken Alfredo for the kids. Pizza was decent; wasn't a huge fan of the chicken Alfredo (pretty garlic heavy, and we like garlic). Service was very good and its a cool looking place inside with a cozy vibe.

Yelp
we highly recommend this restaurant. The best pizza and the best food by far. You would think you were in New York City. Is there anything more to say

Yelp
If you want to be embarrassed in front of your family go to Sals Pizzeria; they will not disappoint. Celebrating my 8 year old's birthday with the grandparents. We ordered drinks and then put in our food order. If you like box wine or turpentine then drink up, otherwise best to get drinks elsewhere. The grandparents ordered a pizza, my wife a caprese salad (or their horrible interpretation of a caprese salad) my little girl ordered spaghetti with marina (apparently a very complicated dish), and I ordered the chicken. Got the whine (not a misspelling in this case), and then the pizza was served. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. I asked the waitress about my little girls food. She told us it was coming. Then we waited another 15 minutes and asked, she told us it came out in the order it was put in. But wait....the salad and the pizza came out first before a simple spaghetti and marinara. I asked her to check. She told me she wasn't allowed back there? So they don't allow their waitstaff to check on the food. Strange way to run a restaurant, but okay. Then 15 minutes later, after waiting 45 min since the pizza was brought out and over an hour since it was originally ordered I told her to cancel my chicken and the spaghetti because we had to leave. We had to get my kid some food and we were leaving to go somewhere else that actually cared about her order. Then low and behold...less than 5 minutes later after I threaten to leave the food comes out piping hot. So she didn't even bother to check, and I suspect even put in my order until I threaten to leave. But when she brought it to us we were packing up to leave, so I asked her to just cancel it and remove it from the bill, but she wouldn't. I got mine to go and my kid ate a few bites of her food and then we left. The management doesn't care and will probably respond rudely to this review, like they rudely respond to everyone. Rude and curt. Look at their responses to reviews and know that curt coldness is what you will receive when you eat there along with bad food and wine, and a flippant attitude. It takes so little to make a little kids birthday special. Like bringing out the food she ordered. Even though I pleaded with the server several times to check on her food, they couldn't even manage to do that.

Paul C.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this place! Incredible service and food! Best pizza we've ever had
google avatar

Kal K.

Yelp
Sal's is the place to be! The pizza is top quality! It's authentic wood fired crust with quality toppings. If you're looking for a great pizza and quality service in St. Simons, this is the place! Landon was our server, she was awesome!!! We will all definitely be back!
google avatar

Gina M.

Yelp
The pepperoni pizza is delicious! The ingredients are fresh and the staff was friendly when I placed a to-go order on the phone.
google avatar

Yelp
I have never been to a friendlier, more delicious pizza place. The staff is so helpful and courteous, the menu has the perfect amount of choices, and the prices are great. No doubt about it, the best pizza I've ever had. Can't recommend this place strongly enough. Don't miss it if you're within a 100 miles of St. Simons.

Yelp
I've been visiting SSI for quite a bit of time but have never had an opportunity to try this place until last night. I happened to see this place on the way to the place we were staying and checked out their website. I called to place a pickup order and the young lady that answered the phone let me know the available pickup times she had and took my order all within two minutes. She told me exactly where to come to pick the actual order up and I was excited to try a new place here. It's a standalone building so coming down Frederica you'll want to pay close attention to the signage so you don't miss it but Palm Street sits right behind it. Pulled up and went to the side window as instructed by the nice lady on the phone, gave my name, paid, and was back in my car within 5 minutes. The person who helped me was super nice and I was already pleased with the experience. Made it back to where we were staying and immediately dived in since the food was still pretty hot. I had the baked ziti and it was such a huge portion that I don't think I finished a third of it. It was so flavorful and I loved the base which seemed to have some type of cream cheese and tomato sauce mixed together with lots of pieces of tomatoes and a fusion of spices along with a baked topping of mozzarella cheese. It was filling but not super overpowering. My husband had the chicken parmigiana sandwich with fries and it was huge. He said it was delicious and quite delicious as well. We also had an order of mozzarella sticks which were heavenly. The sticks were pretty big and gooey and the homemade marinara sauce really made everything that much better. So glad we were able to try this place out and definitely plan to visit again during our next stay here!

Yelp
loved the pizza and the wait time was super short service was perfect and all of there food was fresh and hot

Brewer M.

Yelp
Pizza is average. Nothing to write home about. I would put it in the same category as many average carry out pizza places. Service is very slow. We were there from 6 to 8:15. About 20 minutes of that time was spent actually eating. Very disappointed. We were so wishing we had just stayed at our place and ordered Domino's.
google avatar

L L.

Yelp
Great flavors, meatball and sausage sandwiches were exactly the right taste for higher-end pizzerias. Depth to the sauce, perfect herbiness under the tomato. Meatballs juicy and savory but with their own herbal-bread undertones. The rolls were fresh and had a nice crisp on the skin. Two issues kept my rating from 5 stars. One, the sandwiches are small. This is like a 6-8" sandwich, and it's just too dainty for an adult meal. If you're getting a pizzeria sandwich, you're hungry. Just feed people. I'm from Philly and we use 12" hoagie rolls for our sandwiches, and if the owner is from NJ, he should know better. Second, everything was made with fresh, quality ingredients, except the fries were low quality. Yeah, they look like the good handcut kind, but they were oddly lightweight, and taste and substance were vapid. I would definitely return for more sandwiches (when not super hungry), and to explore more of their menu. I just need to sub the fries out for a salad or any other option. Very happy to have finally tried them, and looking forward to going back!
google avatar

Tammy W.

Yelp
The food at Sal's was fantastic! We ordered pizza, chicken parm., Ravioli, eggplant parm & chicken marsala (which was the best I've had). This is always a go to for our family when we come to SSI. SAL's never disappoints!
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
We absolutely loved this hometown pizza restaurant. It was very busy on a Saturday with plenty of TVs to watch Alabama get beat down by Tennessee. We ordered a pizza with sausage and mushrooms. The crust was delicious and the toppings were very tasty. I enjoyed the sauce. Our server was stretched thin, but she did a fine job of keeping our drinks filled. Great experience.
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
Pizza pie was amazing, albeit the take out wait time for today was atrocious. The service and taste made up for the hour long wait time.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Sal's Neighborhood Pizza is a popular place that has become an institution for many. I guess that the owner is origonally from New Jersey, which is where I am originally from. We know great pizza in New Jersey and when I lived in New Jersey, I just took it for granted that every corner had great (or at least very good) pizza. After moving down south, I found that great pizza was not available on every corner, nor was good pizza available at every corner. You can find a lot of mediocre pizza from the national pizza chains, but great (or even moderately good pizza) is a bit harder to find. OK, a lot harder to find. Here the pizza is not great, but it is good. I woukd definitely recommend a visit here.

Yelp
Sal's passing was a loss to the community, but he had the foresight pass his "baby" on to capable hands. Eleven years ago, at the bar at Sal's, I proclaimed to all present that I intended to marry the woman in my company. A year later we gathered our family together at Sal's on the eve of our wedding. Yesterday, my wife and I returned to Sal's to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. (We live in Minnesota). Our experience was absolutely amazing. The pizza is every bit as good as it ever was. Holly, the person entrusted with Sal's legacy, was hands on just like Sal was. She has put together a staff that is borderline Magical. I tipped the tab!!(that's 100% tip to recognize exceptional service). God Bless Sal in his promotion. God Bless Holly in her continuation of his legacy.

Terry G.

Yelp
Best pizza on St Simons! Call early if you want take out. Nice, casual atmosphere. Deluxe Pizza

Yelp
OMG- this place was the best. Visiting for a short time on SSI and picked this place out on YELP. They are not wrong. Greek salad to share and a med pizza was just perfect for us. And still left w/two slices. Our server was Andrea and she was a doll. If we ever get back this way, we'll be back here.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has the BEST pizza and calzones on the island!! Honestly everything is amazing! Even better than the food is the staff!! We love Michelle. She is simply wonderful. Always has a smile on her face and treats you like family.
google avatar

Jerry G.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal pizza. Had the Marshal with pepperoni, and it was amazing, highly recommended!!

John F.

Yelp
One pizza took an hour and a half on a Thursday night and was the most burnt and greasy pizza I've ever been served
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Great pizza! We had the Margherita Pizza, it was great, thin, crispy crust and perfect amount of topping. If you are ordering for pick up, I highly recommend getting there early enough to have one of Travis' (bartender) DELICIOUS margaritas! I definitely plan on having a few more of them before I leave the island 4 stars/2- $$

Ginger B.

Yelp
Great place for pizza plus salads and other yummy foods! Great service and friendly people. We were seated quickly and immediately someone asked for our drink orders. Lots of servers who helped one another!
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
FLETC pizza, white cheese sauce was a great choice. Flatbread soft and delicious. You won't be disappointed. Parking is tight but no other worries. Friendly service.

Kari S.

Yelp
Pizza was meh...Customer service was poor. Ordered online-Waited 20 minutes after pizza was supposed to be ready. No apologies from staff, and there were only a few people in the restaurant. Won't be back!
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Sal's pizza's are the closest to NY pizzas I have found in SE Georgia. Magnificent! Perfect! The sauce!

Garth H.

Yelp
Great pizza and just loaded with toppings! It was great, even cold the next morning, though there wasn't much left.

Yelp
We love coming to Sal's. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. We ordered 3 large pizzas. They are Jersey style and quite authentic. There were 3 of us and we have enough leftovers for a couple more days. I also scored 3 clothing items for only $3 each while waiting for my table. There is a little clothing shop next door with a clearance rack outside.
