Salsa Limón Review - North University - Austin - The Infatuation

"The Mexican mini-chain Salsa Limón has six locations in Fort Worth and Dallas, and they recently expanded to Austin with a new restaurant on Guadalupe just north of campus. Expect tacos (some with crispy cheese), burritos, breakfast all day, margaritas, and their four signature salsas (tomatillo, jalapeno, piquin, and habanero)." - Raphael Brion

I love street tacos, and really wanted to love their food. It is very good, no question. But something was keeping it from being great, at least what I had. I had a few vegetarian tacos. My friend had the chorizo and she felt the same way. But I highly recommend regardless. The atmosphere is really fun. A fun spot with very good food is a win!

Google
Do not pass this place up. Their food is bursting with flavors as are their sauces. Ordering was easy and the staff was helpful, catered to our needs, and quickly answered questions. This is a different Hispanic cuisine than your typical "Mexican" establishment. The menu could have a few more items and sides, but I'm not complaining. What they do, they do very well, and that's what's most important. Two things are certain; We will be hungry again, and we will bring our appetites back to Salsa Limon!

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and am so happy I finally did! Everyone says that the food is fabulous, and everything absolutely was! The kind person taking our order was so patient as my children decided what they wanted. He also went out of his way to explain menu items to us, and was super helpful with all of our questions :) Service was speedy! Everything was so very fresh! The Barbaro taco was life changing. The guac is the best. And I’d def recommend the queso! I will be back!

Google
I was attracted by the large meat spit at the entrance. And I was right. I chose a chicken quesadilla for a light snack. The meat is magical, aromatic, delicious! The staff is polite, friendly but not over the top, which is great! Pleasant atmosphere, calm, relaxed.

Google
Salsa Limon has excellent Tacos with many vegetarian options. It is a great place for a meal after visiting Ft. Worth museums.

Google
The tasting at the restaurant was great. The tacos looked nice and they had cabbage on them. The tacos that were served at the wedding were more like dirty street tacos. Which don’t get me wrong, I love those, but that’s not what I was expecting after the tasting and that is not what I wanted to feed the guests at my wedding. The worst part of it all… The margaritas we ordered were supposed to be served on ice. However, the ice was put into the margaritas when it was premade. So it was like watered down lemon-lime mix. It was absolutely horrible, disgusting, and embarrassing to serve that to my guests. I was honestly mortified when I took my first drink. People spent thousands on airfare, hotels, and rental cars and THAT is what they were served…. A complete waste of money. At the end of the night the girls that were serving out of the truck gave me attitude when I asked for the left over food that I paid for. Keep in mind-I added enough numbers to my count to feed them and I told them they could eat. And they still gave me attitude and didn’t want to give me the left over food. The second time I told them that I wanted it, they rolled their eyes. They ended up bringing it to me.

Google
I realized they have free parking in the garage next door so decided to give it a try… wow the food was fantastic!!!! I had chilaquiles and my wife had the el campeon burrito!!! Both were so good!!! Now that i know about the parking i plan coming much more often!!! 5 star all the way!!!

Google
I picked this place because it was right across from the Museum of Modern Art, it looked cute n’ trendy and I was craving chips and salsa. Just OK. This place is purely for aesthetics. Menu is affordable, food is nothing special, left a lot to be desired. Service is quick and that’s all I can really say. Oh well!

Yelp
Great food and service. The only disappointment was they did not have coffee made this morning.

Yelp
Literally my favorite burrito ever. The freshest ingredients. New fort worth favorite

Yelp
I've been a fan of Salsa Limon's delicious food since it opened. On a Tuesday at lunch, I received a warm welcome from the gentleman at the counter of the Museo location on University Drive. The restaurant was clean and bright. I ordered their tortilla soup, which I had not had before, and chips and guacamole. The soup was a good portion and just the right balance of flavors and textures. The chips and guacamole were fresh as always. My food arrived promptly to my table. It was just the kind of midday pick-me-up I needed. Looking forward to returning to Salsa Limon Museo.

Yelp
Salsa Limón is a great fast casual place to eat. First, there is a garage right next door so you don't have to worry about parking. When you step in, you can order at the counter & you get a number for them to bring your food to a table. Serve yourself drinks & salsas. I ordered the breakfast migas. Delicious! It was also the perfect size to get the day started. I got some tomatillo salsa on the side which was pretty good, very mild. They have some outdoor seating so you can enjoy the sun if it's not too hot!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were on the lookout for a good Mexican spot in Fort Worth after moving from California. We wanted to find something as close to the Mexican food spots from home. We decided to get food from Salsa Limon on Friday night. It did give off a casual taqueria vibe with ordering at the counter. The menu was straightforward and any item was customizable. It was on the pricier side for the portions received. There are various locations which is quite convenient. We ordered an Al pastor taco, bean, cheese, rice burrito, chips and salsa and elote. I did love that there was various salsas to pick from ranging from mold to spicy hot. My favorite was the habenero salsa. The corn tortilla were fresh and tasty. I did feel the food was good but nothing to rave about. It was very generic and did not feel like anything special. Parking was available in the garage right behind the restaurant that offers free parking for Salsa Limon customers. The spots were limited.

Yelp
We loved salsa limon! We had margaritas, nachos and tacos. Great atmosphere, great prices, and friendly service. We will be back for sure! Cheap date night!

Yelp
We hit up Salsa Limon after seeing a show across the street at the Auditorium. The Yelp reviews and photos looked good and when we walked in the place smelled delicious. You order at the counter and find a seat. There were a decent amount of tables inside as well as seats at the bar too. They offer a help-yourself soda fountain along with water and help yourself salsa cups. Nothing fancy. The menu is straight forward, but boy is it pricy!!! I guess everything is these days, but I just can't get on board. There are bare-bones tacos you can add items a la carte toppings to, but it adds up. They also have custom tacos they've designed. The corn tortillas are fresh and taste good, the toppings are tasty and fresh too. Taste and flavor this place is 5-stars, but being a casual taqueria $30 for two people to eat seems like a lot. *Parking - there is a parking garage that offers free parking for Salsa Limon customers, but it's tight and there are limited spots. Next option is a paid lot across the street.

Yelp
The location is perfect for museum goers. The burrito was perfectly on point, the salsas were mild to mega-spicy. They have lots of options, even vegan choices. I got a burrito with beans, rice, potato, pickled cabbage, onions and cilantro - $7.50 - tasty from first to last bite, and filled me up. Yes please. This was my second visit, likely I'd return when on this side of Fort Worth.

Yelp
HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!! They advertise one price on the app and charge you a much higher one in person. Even showed the employee at the register and he didn't care after I paid and saw what they charged! Over $5 bucks for a mushroom and cheese taco advertised for $3.50, $4.75 for a potato taco with one tablespoon of potato, etc. Do ya have any idea of how high these profit margins are?? A 1 oz potato taco on a corn tortilla don't even cost $.10 cents to make. INSANE! Then the person in the front is rude and sassy. Nope, never again!!
google avatar

Yelp
I love all the locations of salsa limon! Their food is outstanding and fresh. It amazes me why people go a block away to chipotle when this is far superior! We usually order the taco box, which is enough chicken, cilantro, onions, and all for 12 tacos, then you get rice and beans all for around $35. You can't beat that! However, on this day I got a burrito because I was by myself. It was very flavorful, and if you like some mild heat, go for the green salsa. The chips and hot sauce are good and they give free refills on the chips. I love the atmosphere at this location too and appreciate it's in walking distance to my house. One thing that struck me as odd over the years is why it's priced more than other locations, but I figure it must be the cost of the lease driving it up. I get it, and I'm willing to pay the extra bit to keep contributing to an amazing business. Also I wish they had tortas like all the other locations because they're amazing! I'd still give this place a 10/10, food is always on point, staff is great, and the atmosphere is very nice!
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
Everything we ordered was delicious. You get a good amount of food for the price, too. You can get refills on the aguas; just ask since it's behind the counter. Let me tell you about their salsas though. Those salsas are delicious. If you love spicy food like I do, the habanero salsa is absolute perfection. It has a great flavor and the spiciness of it is fantastic. I would definitely buy a whole bottle of their habanero salsa and put it on everything. Anyways, it's definitely a great place to get Mexican food. It's family owned and they have many locations. The vibes are immaculate. The food is fantastic. What more can you ask for?

Yelp
Was going to the museum next door, but stopped here first to get something to eat & I'm so glad I did! The food is authentic & super flavorful. They have a place where you can pick out your sauces & put them in little cups, of course I tried them all. They also gave us a ton of extra limes free of charge. We didn't know, but the day we went was their 3 year anniversary. The owner came out & celebrated with the employees with a giant "3" balloon. It was so cute. Not only that, but the owner offered us & the other customers present a slice of the cake to celebrate! He even went to the place next door after to share slices of the cake with them too. I will definitely be coming back knowing the food is good & the employees are taken care of. The owner of this establishment is a sweetheart.

Yelp
The tacos are DELICIOUS!! They are so fresh and made to order right in front of your eyes. I ordered the chicken taco and pastor taco with side queso (I thought chips were included, LOL, and ended up having to go back to order chips). When you enter, there's a screen to order from or you can wait for an actual person. There is an ap pick up shelving area by the bar if you place your order ahead. The beverages are Mexican soda fountain, margs, and coffee. It's a la carte style, nothing is included like chain Mexican places, which is fine with me. Just be prepared to pay for each item you want, it adds up if you have a whole family. Like I said, delicious though! As evidenced by my lack of food porn, I gobbled it up before I even took time to snap anything for y'all. But just go for yourself, your tastebuds will be very happy. Thank you for the yummy tacos today!

Yelp
In my everlasting search for quick service taco restaurants, I have finally visited a Salsa Limon. We were staying in the Fort Worth Cultural District for an event at Dickies Arena and saw this restaurant a block away. It is a very small footprint, so would be easy to miss. Service was pretty uninterest but the tacos were good. This is one of those places where you select your basic then add meat and any other non-meat extras. I would not recommend adding the grilled jalapenos because they were overpowering. I enjoyed the Barbacoa. Queso was good but not great. Guacamole was very good but serving is small next to some of its competitors. The smaller white tables are very flimsy and uncomfortable and the air conditioning was on kill, so moved to one of the elevated wood tables near the bar. That offered much better seating. Salsas were pretty average. With all the choices out there for similar food, I can't see revisiting a Salsa Limon again.
google avatar

Yelp
I am obsessed with Salsa Limón! I have eaten here over a 1000 times since I am so close to it. They have an amazing standers to the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Must tries: 1. The Favorito. 3. The Barbacoa quesadilla. 2. Bacon, egg, cheese and add queso 3. Barbacoa taco, no onion or slaw and add bacon and queso! Final note: if you like cheese they add to the taco after frying it. It's soooo freaken gooood! Also, they should add something sweet to the menu like churros.

Michael B.

Yelp
AVOID!!! Look no further of why you get sick from here, then the pictures attached! This lazy owner, managers, and employees leave big smelly garbage containers FEET from where you're supposed to eat! Instead of putting them back in the building, they're lazy and could careless about our health! So if they blatantly could careless about making you eat surrounded by garbage, can you only imagine how dirty their kitchen is, and the quality and standards of the food is, what you dont see?!?! Save your hard earned money, and being violently Ill. Go to any establishment within a block that chooses health and your safety, over laziness and and AWFUL environment. You've been warned...

Yelp
I came here Friday night for a business meeting. It was surprisingly chill? The music was cranked up and service was a little slow for a small crowd. My prospective business partner ordered El Capita~n and a Barbaco Taco. He said, it was mmmm, good. I'm still fasting intermittently so, no Tacos for me since, it was after six pm. These was not my choice but, you know how business works. Although, I chose not to eat, the ambiance of the restaurant is quite impressive. I love the furniture and atmosphere. It's Cinco de Mayo! Now, you have an excuse to check this place out.
google avatar

Donavon D.

Yelp
This was $26, including 15% tip. Food tasted pretty good, but I think it's pricey considering the portion size and the fact that you have to pay extra for normal things like cheese and lettuce.
google avatar

Liv W.

Yelp
When I come home to Fort Worth I always make sure Salsa Limón is on my hometown rotation. The salsas are so delicious and their menu keeps things simple and delicious. One of those meals I hate to see come to an end-- I always wish I would have grabbed another taco just to really send it home. My favorite: an Al pastor taco with the second spiciest salsa (pretty spicy so be warned) -- that fatty, salty pork, the sweet pineapple, and the hot af salsa are *chef's kiss*
google avatar

Yelp
I finally got to try this place and it was good! I really love that when you walk in they give you hand sanitizer, you must have your mask on. At the moment I believe that you cannot eat in the restaurant, I believe it is only pick up and to go. It is a very nice and clean place, the menus are displayed almost everywhere on the wall, you can also download their menu as well. Very easy to read As soon as we walked in we were immediately greeted, the young man took our order quite quickly, and our food came out just as quick. We had the tacos in the burrito. I do like that I was able to take certain stuff out of my burrito and kind of make it my own, I'm glad they could accommodate that. The tacos and a burrito were a good size, not too big not too small, and they have big flavor. I think for me the prices were a little high that I expected, but again for the proportions I think it was fair. The ingredients were cheesy flavorful the meet was really tender, I will definitely be back to try more.
google avatar

Yelp
Great tasting food. Great prices. Street tacos tho. Don't expect Mi Concina tho Blah Blah Blah
google avatar

Tiffaney C.

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks! They also have a cute flower wall, so awesome opportunity for a photo. The only down side is you have to order at the counter even for drink refills. Other than that it was perfect, we plan to visit again in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
All of there tacos are amazing!! I typically get one that is carne asade. Then one that is the el pastor shell. Highly recommend

Yelp
I'm a huge Salsa Limon fan. Something about their refried beans is just so delicious. Does anyone else find that refried beans are their main concern when ordering at a Mexican restaurant? I just love refried beans so much... Of course beans aren't the only thing Salsa Limon does well, duh! Their tacos are superb, the meats are so flavorful. They're served authentic in corn tortillas with cilantro and white onion, but you can totally ask for flour tortillas. Their rice is fluffy and fragrant. And their chips and salsa are the best! Salsa Limon might be most famous for their little salsa bar. Typically they're unlabeled, so here's a little rundown (info from their website): Tomatillo (darker green): "Charred Jalapeño salsa, but with so much tomatillo it isn't spicy. Our mildest salsa. Great on eggs, great on chips, great with crema." Jalapeno (lighter brighter green): "We've been told this salsa is the best in the whole world. It starts with a shock of zesty citrus and finishes up with a dash of calming creaminess." Piquin (darker red): "This is a taqueria classic. It's the perfect pair to pastor and barbacoa -- so get those taste buds ready for a kick-ass blend of smokiness, spice, and everything nice." Habanero (lighter orangey red): "Habanero isn't for the faint of heart; proceed with caution. And for those of you who choose to proceed with curiosity...  well, you've been warned. This is Mexican-grade hot -- but just like a toxic relationship, it'll always keep you coming back for more." Go to Salsa Limon over and over until you try everything, then start over!

Marcus M.

Yelp
I had a taco craving so I decided to stop here to satisfy it. I had the El Capitan pastor taco which was really good but a little fatty and a asada taco which was very tender. My question was really smooth and creamy and very flavorful. The hibiscus drink was good as well. My only complaint is that there are too many options on the menu as to how to dress your taco and they charge for every little extra and the servings size is small for the price of the tacos. The atmosphere here is nice as well as the music.
google avatar

Petra N.

Yelp
Salsa limon is literally everywhere around downtown! I personally still think that they are an over priced tacos. Ehh I don't really care for them much to be honest! I rather eat taco heads or maestros tacos! ‍ but this is based on personal taste buds! If you are selling tacos, in my opinion I want everything that comes with the tacos. Nobody sells tacos separately from cilantros, onions, tomatoes and bla bla bla. Before you know it that $3 becomes $6. Not a fan! Service is good here though. So no complaints in that department. :) but overall definitely lots of better tacos place around that are much cheaper and worth your money!

The B.

Yelp
There is such a cute atmosphere here with the music and decorations here! The food was great, and reasonably priced. Perfect stop for a quick lunch before going to the gardens!

Yelp
I had a hankering for some vegetarian tacos and decided to give Salsa Limon a try. This location is the only location that offers the eco or vegetarian menu. Parking is free in the garage just behind the restaurant. Inside the decor is simple yet elegant in its own way. I loved the throwback feeling that the old school cafeteria chairs had. The table set up was good offering several options for group sizes. We ordered the chips and salsa, bean and cheese tacos, potato and cabbage tacos, and black been and rice tacos. All were generously filled We also had Maine Sodas from the fountain which were delicious. My favorite taco was the bean and cheese. It was so good. It made me wish I had gotten the bean and rice to go with it. The potato and cabbage was somewhat like a German taco with mashed potatoes and cabbage that was almost like sauerkraut. Finally the black bean and avocado taco was good but mild in flavor. Overall I'll definitely come back if only for the bean and cheese tacos because they were legit fire.
google avatar

Aanchal V.

Yelp
I came here with my family for the first time and honestly I thought the tacos was average nothing special. They were good but not amazing! We got the veggie tacos and the beans made the tacos super soggy. We also got the queso and chips. I was not a big fan of the queso but my brother loved it!
google avatar

Wes L.

Yelp
My favorite street taco place. I come here for lunch all the time. I get my food quickly and everyone is very nice and helpful. Must try the guacamole. My favorite place to get that as well.
google avatar

Beighlie O.

Yelp
"If this place is any good, we're f*cked," I greeted my boyfriend as I walked into our new apartment. Salsa limon is a three minute walk from my apartment. We're moving in today, so I decided I'd hop online and place an order for pickup since it was *so close* and we've been up for 7 hours without eating. Maybe it would suck. Maybe they would be mid and we'd be okay. But no. We're f*cked. Why, you ask? Because the queso was good, if a bit thin for my personal preference. The chicken taco a bit dry. But the barbacoa is great. The pastor? Amazing. Chorizo? Greasy, spicy, full of flavor. Even the bean and cheese taco was incredible. It's too close, too easy to order, and too damn good. So yea. We're f*cked. Next time y'all see me, be nice about my taco twenty.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
The burritos are massive! We ordered online and ate inside. I got the potato cabbage one with added avocado And my boyfriend got the carne asada one We also got a side of tortilla chips and salsa! Salsa was immaculate and the tortilla chips were tasty and hot.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
The best burrito I've had in my life, and I'm something of a burrito connoisseur. The chicken is out of the world, the rest of the burrito screams "nailed it!" and the chips and salsa sealed the deal. Extra points for packaging and delivery; everything was perfect and I don't feel like any quality was lost like most to-go orders. Now time for a burrito coma!
google avatar

Marilee Y.

Yelp
I love this salsa Limón location! They really went above and beyond with their service. Two people were cleaning and sanitizing door handles, tables, counters, etc. while we enjoyed our meal. An employee took our trash when we were done as well and asked how our meal was. The environment was welcoming and clean. The food was impeccable! Will definitely be back.

Diana M.

Yelp
ANDREW was very rude. This restaurant is so white washed and people like Andrew forget they are also Mexican why be rude to your own people & give attitude we came in for the first time expecting it to be a nice friendly environment but ANDREW had a stick up his ass!!!!
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
Since visiting Fort Worth I have fallen in love with Salsa Limon when I needed a quick bite for dinner. I have come to the University Dr. Museo location several times. Food has always been tasty, prices reasonable, good service and the order ahead on their mobile app/website has been handy too.

Amy J.

Yelp
Seriously, WTF? Salsa is in the name of the business and you are required to select the salsas for each item when ordering. This is an ongoing training or quality control issue. This has happened several times. Time to be done with this place for good. It is not worth the irritation.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Great tasting food, every time I stop by to get a burrito it just hits the spot. Service is also outstanding all the staff is friendly and gets orders out quick.
google avatar

Ellie R.

Yelp
Delicious tacos!! I always get chicken and cheese with the red hot sauce. Their homemade sauces are really Good too!
google avatar

George A.

Yelp
Needed a quick bite on a Monday and walked in. Clean, well organized, service was speedy. Ordered the taco with Asada. I was a little disappointed with the portion size (it's just one, vary small taco), but it was stuffed pretty full, and tasted great. Not terribly expensive, but I'd have happily paid more for an actual meal-sized serving. All-in? Great for a snack,

Henry J.

Yelp
Food was good, no margaritas available on national margarita day. All I wanted was a frozen margarita but I was unable to attain one.
google avatar

Ahmed S.

Yelp
Came here for a wedding dinner last minute with no reservation Accommodated over 25 people - quality did not suffer at all - the prices were reasonable and the product was really good. The only gripe i have is they don't have knives and they refused to provide knives for the wedding cake
google avatar

R. Mark M.

Yelp
I work in the area and one I popped into this spot that you can easily miss as it is very unassuming. Just know that there is a free parking garage next door to it. I have been three times and each time had their breakfast tacos. They are so good, especially with their jalapeno salsa that I can't keep from ordering them each time, but I do plan on trying what I hear is their massive burritos. I also enjoy their chips and salsa (must pay for this not free) and their horchata.

Laurel C.

Yelp
I frickin LOVE this place. I have been going every day for the past week almost and they are so fast and friendly with service. I get the El Capitan Asada tacos and they are amazing!! They have great sauces too if you're into spicy.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Great food! Great service! Walking walking distance to and from museums; no reason to move your car.

Yelp
It was 1:30am on a Friday night. After a night of drinking and bar hopping, I was famished. When I have any alcohol in me all I can think of is "ugh, I need a taco." Salsa Limon is cleverly situated in the middle of all the bars on Morton street. No longer are the days of driving to get Mexican food after a long night of bar hopping ...now it's walking distance away. It's super flashy at night and does its job of grabbing ze inebriated folk's attentions. Okay, to be honest... I was really skeptical of this place because when I think street tacos or food truck tacos I'm thinking $1.50 per taco. I am from Dallas after all so the $1.50 gas station tacos along Harry Hines forever have my heart. Salsa Limon charges $2.50-$3.00 for one taco. Instead of the traditional cilantro, lime and onions, Salsa Limon also puts pickled cabbage on top of their tacos. INNNteresting. I actually opted for the carne asada quesadilla and loooooved it. Was it because I wasn't 100% sober? Who knows. Freshly grilled, toasty flour tortilla with oo-ey goo-ey, stringy cheese and tender, juicy carne asada. MMMmmmm... and that habenero sauce though!!! Couldn't get enough. That sauce is LEGIT and has an AMAZING kick! Also the Mexican rice and refried beans were yummo - just wish there were more of it! But overall a very filling post-drinking meal.

Yelp
We found this place 500 feet away and decided to give it a try 100% recommend it got a burrito and a drink they were both complementing each other the hot sauce was perfect and customer service was top noch

Yelp
Quality Breakfast Tacos are harder to access now when wading through the variables such as hours/business. This store isn't easy to find find, or at least when distracted by the location. Regardless of this, is the trustworthiness of knowing that you will be satisfied in this area = which this restaurant does.
