Salsa's Taqueria Review - Downtown - Mammoth - The Infatuation

"Salsa’s Taqueria is the perfect spot to pick up a quick taco, torta, or burrito before your next hike. While there are small seating areas both indoors and on the sidewalk outside, it’s best to order your food to go. Their lunch options are all excellent, but the breakfast burrito, which is stuffed with eggs, beans, salsa, cheese, tater tots, and your choice of meat, is the best thing on the menu. It’s also super close to Distant Brewing, where they’ll let you bring your burrito over to pair with your craft beer for a “breakfast” of champions." - Danielle Bauter

Google
Found a great local spot! They offer a variety of sauces and sides, and you can enjoy unlimited chips. The food tasted fresh and clean, and I didn’t feel heavy or tired afterward. Prices are a bit higher than regular Mexican restaurants, but the quality, flavor, and atmosphere definitely make it worth it. A full five-star experience! Full Review: I discovered a great local Mexican restaurant. They offer a wide variety of sauces and sides, and you can enjoy unlimited chips along with your meal. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the overall flavor felt clean and healthy. Even after eating, I didn’t feel heavy or tired, which made me think they don't rely heavily on artificial seasonings to boost flavor — a nice change from many other places. The price is a bit higher compared to typical Mexican restaurants, but considering the lively atmosphere, the wide selection of menu items, the fresh ingredients, and the great taste, it absolutely deserves a five-star rating.

First time here I orderd the chili Verde which was so delicious with flavor and big chunks of pork, I highly recommend Salsas great place and friendly plus the kind server came back to check if I needed anything else and asked if I needed more tortillas wow so cool thank you 😀

Beyond expectations! This restaurant is one of the best we have ever visited. The cleanliness is neat, the food delicious and the service excellent! I specially want to cheer Anita M our server for her great and sweet customer service. Keep doing that great job Anita!

The atmosphere is nice, and the employees are welcoming and friendly. Menu is big and easy to read. There are plenty of tables and on a Sunday afternoon, several tables were taken. The food was good, I had three tacos, shredded chicken, pastor, and carnitas. The pastor had great flavor but was tough to chew, it was not fatty meat, it was either dried out or fried a bit too much. The carnitas was good as well but a little dried out. The flavor profile was great on both. The chicken taco was my favorite, the meat was moist and lightly seasoned. You could taste the flavor coming through but still taste the chicken. I would come here again, but for the money there are better options. The salsa bar was big with more options than most taquerias. I had a medium and a spicy salsa. The flavors were very good, you could taste the rehydrated peppers in the spicy salsa with a bit of smoke. Again, not disappointed at all, better than a lot of taquerias, but not my personal favorite.

Google
Very fresh and presented nicely. Salsa is not too hot. Lots of flavor, I ordered the chicken fajitas very flavorful a lot for your money. Also had carne asada on fries with cheese. Tasty. Will eat here again. Support the small business owners ✔️🇺🇲

Google
I ordered a bacon breakfast burrito and it was exactly what I wanted. It was a good portion size and the ingredients were fresh and they dont skimp on meat or ingredients leaving you with a potato burrito. It was a perfect ingredient ratio. I also like that they use actual potatoes and not fries and then call it potato. The staff is very friendly and the place is very clean. I dont eat out often but would live to come back here to try other dishes.

Google
I enjoyed this lunch spot! Varied salsa bar with the yummiest pickles onions and more. Their tacos are also delicious and well priced. Fish taco was not perfect too. Their plates are also nice, but not as worth as the burritos or tacos in my opinion. Meat is not dry. The guac is subpar and tastes watery. Interior is spacious and modern. Casual vibe.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good news Hong's about Salsa's Taqueria and the staff. I placed a large order over the phone for pickup for late afternoon/early evening pickup. Staff was courteous and helpful answering my questions and also accommodating my requests for things to be placed on the side. Order was ready quickly and very well packaged when I went to pickup. Did not expect chips and salsa either! That was a nice touch. They have a self serve chip and salsa bar if you eat in the restaurant. Highly recommend for dine and pickup. Food, salsa and chips were all excellent.

Yelp
I've been here twice to order food, and both times I ordered a burrito with just double meat and one order was with rice only, the other with lettuce and tomato only with the double portions of meat. The first time the rice was packed in and it was basically a rice burrito. I did not enjoy that experience, the second attempt was yesterday when I ordered with veggies and got a veggie burrito for $20. Terrible experiences, I feel like I got ripped off. Won't be back. This place should be able to execute my orders easily but instead fumbled both times. Bad service and food.

Yelp
Only been a few times but consistently tasty food and generous portions. Great chips and salsa bar. Friendly and super fast service. Clean space but not overly fancy. Kind of what you might expect for a strip mall restaurant.

Sarah C.

Yelp
The salsa bar is delicious the pickled veggies are so delicious. The food is also tasty. If we are up here for a xc meet or coming back from the lake this is a must stop.

Yelp
Stopped in for a shrimp burrito, and it was great! The shrimp were huge and cooked just right. Burrito was stuffed and even had avocado. The chips had to have been fresh because my leftovers were still good three days later.

Yelp
DO NOT Order Online today! (Cinco de Mayo, May 5th). This was a awhile back, but I was charged for an order I never received. I called the next day and someone told me the owner would follow up, but they never fixed the issue. In hindsight, I should of issued a charge back immediately. Avoid this place for online ordering today.

Yelp
First time here. We came at about 6:50. One other person was dining. By the time we ordered and sat down there was a line already and a couple groups came in. It's open seating. A small place. Table and chairs and some bar seating tables with stools. We ordered the quesabirria special. It was 3 of them with cosume and pickled onions, fresh onions and cilantro. They have a nice salsa bar with an array of salsa. We tried 4 of them and all were very good! Chips were good, they make them in house. The tacos were amazingly good! The corn tortillas are large and sturdy and hold up to the dipping of the cosume. The cosume was very flavorful. We can't wait to try more items in the menu if we can ever get past the quesabirria tacos! These are the kind I'm sure we will have cravings for!

Yelp
Not very friendly!! It seemed to be an inconvenience for them to take my order! The rice and beans were good, but the carne asada tacos were very bland.

Yelp
Came here to get me some barbacoa style tacos like the ones I used to eat in Mexico. Ordered the cabeza tacos and they were perfect!! Ask for the spicy salsa, also they have a delicioso pozole!!! Trust me it's worth trying. Enjoy!!

Yelp
Salsa's located in Folsom, was a completely tasty surprise! They are nestled in a shopping center, and if you don't know that they're there, or you don't know to look for them, you may just pass them by. Diners tip: order the crispy tacos. Every time. Yes, they're that good. The crispy tacos are filled with deliciousness, and if you can eat all of them, then hat tip to you. You can order any of the food items with your choice of meats, ranging from pork, beef, fish, and vegetarian. Both the Carnitas and the asada were pretty tasty, and I could barely finish one. It was damn delicious! I really prefer the filling to the actual tortilla shell that the taco was made from. It's hard to tell based on taste if it is made in house that way, or if it's premade. The nachos while tasty, we're definitely more chips and basic toppings, with very little meat. However, great flavor profile, and really, really tasty. Everyone orders at the counter, and is given a number and you can select where you'd like to sit. The food will be brought to the table. Drinks are self serve. Nice place, good food, and nice people. Plus, if you go, you can get your taco on!

Yelp
The food is always great here. I have never been disappointed. Great salsa bar too. I just purchased 15 burritos for the guys at work and they raved.

Yelp
Super good!! Fast. Food was muy delicioso!!! We will be back!! Fresh, big portions, great presentation!

Yelp
Food was great well organized clean Tortillas were very good I rarely like tortillas if they are not fresh the ones they served here were delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service, reasonable prices, good portions. The chips and salsa are tasty as well as the pastor plate had a juicy meat and all the sides to it were delicious. It compares with nearby Fiesta although I would lean slightly towards that one.

Yelp
I hope it was just an off day but this was a very disappointing first visit to Salsa's Taqueria. The place was nice and clean and the staff was very nice, but the food was bland and the very opposite of authentic. My experience at Salsa's really makes me question the legitimacy of these reviews. That's how disappointing the food was! The chips weren't very good and tasted like old oil or grease and the spicy salsa wasn't spicy. The food was bland and so disappointing considering all of the positive reviews. It's almost like it's made for the general population instead of just good flavorful Mexican food. I like supporting small businesses, and I hope this was just an off day for this restaurant, but I will not be back to give it a second chance. There are just too many other options for me to take another chance.

Yelp
Still our favorite place! Tried to convince my kids to try something new but got a solid "no". Every time we've come here our bellies are satisfied. Chips were fresh and I love the salsa options too! Staff were courteous and friendly. Music is always great and I like that they have games on TV. There's also different seating options from a traditional table to a high table, which is nice for folks that may need a taller chair.

Yelp
Coming from San Jose, I've been missing quality Mexican food. Salsa's hits the spot for me! I come from Rancho Cordova to get their super burritos. They're delicious! They also have a chile Colorado sometimes on special which is amazing. I love the self-serve chips and salsa bar & the various flavors of margaritas they have. All of the servers are so friendly. Would recommend!
google avatar

Maria L.

Yelp
Very bland. It's a shame when the meat and beans are cooked perfectly yet lack flavor. All the salsas were bland, even the spicy salsa was far from spicy. I added salt to everything which did nothing to my palette. Should have went to a taco truck.

Yelp
Love this place! Food is great! Chips and salsa great! Horchata smooth and delicious! So many flavors of Jarritos!

Yelp
My wife, my son and I tried this place for the first time last Saturday. My wife had the Street Taco and a quesadilla. She does not like spicy food and they were able to put everything spicy on the side. She gave me a taste of the quesadilla and it was good. I had the Pastor Plate which was also very good. I can't honestly remember what my son ate. Everything tasted fresh and the food came out very quickly. We will return.

Foodie Critique S.

Yelp
I have been here several times and the food is always good and staff are friendly. The service is quick and the different variety of salsa's are really good. This time I had the carnitas street tacos with rice and beans. The inside is clean and the decor is nice.

Joe B.

Yelp
45 minute wait for two regular tacos... i repeat... 45 minute wait for two tacos and it was not even that busy i'll never come back to this location

Yelp
Since moving from SoCal 10 years ago, this is the best Mexican food we have found in the Sacramento area. It took us almost 10 years to find this place and now we visit once a week. Our family's favorites? Shrimp & avocado tostada, shredded chicken enchiladas w/ green sauce, birria tacos, flautas & quesadillas. The variety at the salsa bar is killer. You will easily find one or more salsas you'll love. The service is wonderful & all the ladies are so sweet & hospitable. Give this place a try!
google avatar

Heike S.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. We came right before a big rush. We ordered fish & asada street tacos. They have a great chip & salsa bar yo enjoy while you wait. I did feel like it took long to get our tacos, but they were delicious!
google avatar

Giti M.

Yelp
Pricey, but good fresh food with a great salsa bar that's not too salty or hottt.Good friendly service.
google avatar

Rob R.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while, but they still make the best burrito in Sacramento County! Super friendly! Had the breakfast burrito with chicken. It came out fast and hot as expected. Be careful with the jalapeño salsas! Great place to stop by as well if you're traveling on Highway 50!

Yelp
I have been on the hunt for solid Mexican food since moving to Folsom from the Bay Area. Having lived in San Jose + Oakland spoiled me for what qualifies as bomb ass Mexican cuisine. Walking in I was already a fan of the chip + salsa bar and around the corner are horchata + other juices - unlimited! Love. I had a carne asada burrito which I practically inhaled; my husband had menudo. It was very flavorful and they gave him additional tortillas when they checked on us a couple times. We got their house made flan to go and enjoyed it at home. It was a great dining experience and we will be regulars!
google avatar

M H.

Yelp
I chose this restaurant based off a picture I saw when I was craving Mexican food. The customer service was friendly and helpful. I showed the picture to the server and got that. It did not disappoint. The salsa bar had many options and was delicious, the chips were fresh and so was the food. It tasted like a home cooked meal. Definitely would go again.
google avatar

Micayla N.

Yelp
Ive been here before & everything was fine, but that was about 2 years ago. I went last night all excited, craving green sauce chilaquiles. So I got that & a fountain drink, & my husband got a torta & a margarita. It was $62 for the 2 of us. The green sauce on my chilaquiles was spicier than I expected which threw me off. The food we got made us both sick & we had to rush home shortly after. Sick because I wanted to like this place, but I'll just have to try somewhere new
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
"Pretty good". Huge menu. Prices are reasonable. I just wish there was more meat on the nachos. Way too much picadillo!!
google avatar

Michaela D.

Yelp
I wasn't super in the mood for Mexican food when my fiancé selected this place, but I'm so glad we went! You order at the counter; the staff were friendly and the larger dining area was clean. I got two street tacos with carne asada which were some of the best I've had. I was really into their hot and salty tortilla chips offered at the extensive salsa bar, included with your order. I would be a regular here if I were a local!
google avatar

Olivia G.

Yelp
I wanted to try the menudo but they were out of it so I got the bacon egg burrito and it was ok. I would never get it again. The beans tasted like if they were out of a can and tortillas also smelled and tasted store bought. The service was good and friendly we are used to eating authentic Mexican food from Texas so maybe I'm just not used to this style. I probably won't return... sorry
google avatar

Eduardo T.

Yelp
Very authentic Mexican place. Love their Salsas. They have the most and best salsas ever. Give it a try soon you will not regret it. Very friendly owners and staff too.
google avatar

Steven D.

Yelp
Food was amazing and out quick, staff is always friendly and must try is the birria tacos and the pineapple agua fresca!!!! Def will be back 10/10
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
It's heart breaking to see a good, not great, but good, reliable place go to hell. It's been a few times the carne asada has been cooked to funk, and it's just hard, salty cardboard. They tend to mix shredded chicken with grilled chicken too. If you can cook the most basic stale meat, you should consider your choice of business.
google avatar

Yelp
POV Texas girl moving from DC to Sacramento in desperate need of decent tacos after suffering east coast pale imitations... LOVED THE STREET TACOS HERE. Phenomenal! PORTIONS: filling and hearty PRICE: appropriate, maybe even a steal! SERVICE: the place is order first and self-serve for chips and salsa which I like so we don't have to flag someone down or bother waiters for things we can get ourselves SURROUNDINGS: clean and open FLAVORS: Pastor, carnitas, and cabeza we're all beautiful, flavorful and paired with individual salsas to bring out their unique tastes. For dessert we had the FLAN and it was great to end with for me. HOWEVER, my dining companion found the flavor lacking in his lengua taco and the giant tamales. I'd say stick to the street tacos.

michelle s.

Yelp
First, change your menu to reflect the real prices. The food is not good and has no taste. I don't usually leave reviews but I spent good money to receive pretty low quality food . Should have gone to Taco Bell.
google avatar

Claire R.

Yelp
This is the best place in Folsom for a super burrito. They have many different meats and styles. Their salsa bar is always full and chips are hot and ready to go. Plus they do offer kids meals too.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Came here for the Birria Queso Tacos, it did not disappoint. It was seasoned, crunchy and tasty. I always love a Taqueria that offer free chips and salsas! The portions were huge, I had to ask for a box to go.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Salsa's is very close to my house so we go there a lot. A nice little Taqueria. That seems to be family owned. Service is always friendly !

Tim R.

Yelp
Super burritos for dinner are excellent and so are the breakfast burritos. The salsa bar is also great. Friendly staff and lots of drink options alcoholic or not.

Yelp
No sabor!! No flavor!! Food ordered Cons: 1.) chicken fajitas- although the chicken was somewhat tender it was too thick and chunky in size. The red and green pepper weren't cooked down enough and didn't have the char I'm used too. 2.) nachos- the under layer chips were soggy due to the toppings. The meat was okay. 3.) Birria plate- just okay, tender but lacked flavor. 4.) chip and salsa area- I saw a man rub his nose and then grab chips with that same hand (unsanitary) Pros 1.) Tortilla chips and salsa-good and tasty 2.) refried beans-creamy and tasty 3.) seating-tables and tall tables with plenty of seating This place was average. I didn't even want to take photos of the food like I normally do.
google avatar

Violet L.

Yelp
I don't usually leave reviews, especially since we love this place. But today, our meat tasted like cleaning supplies & mold. Both my husband & father had to go home early due to feeling ill.
google avatar

Courtney P.

Yelp
During lunch, my dad and I went on a foodie adventure up to Folsom to try Salsa's Taqueria. Located in an inconspicuous shopping plaza, Salsa's serves up some of the tastiest Mexican food I have had in the Sacramento area. I opted for their Birria tacos which were absolutely delicious. My dad tried their street tacos with a variety of meats. And for dessert, we shared a vanilla churro and a caramel churro. Everything we had was extremely delicious and I love that they have a self-serve salsa bar.

Kat M.

Yelp
Friendly and helpful staff and of course the food was awesome. Will definitely keep coming back
google avatar

Casey P.

Yelp
Salsa bar was awesome- loved the picked veggies and pink habanero salsa. I really wanted a California burrito and wow did they ever deliver!!!

Yelp
After my family went to the folsom outlet we wanted to have Mexican food for lunch and went to Yelp to find some good place and we found Salsa Taqueria , we were created by a waitress very friendly and helpful on there menu since we have to ordered first then sit down afterwards . My son ordered shrimp Burrito, and my husband ordered steak ala Mexicans come with grilled steak and roasted vegetables . And I ordered chili con Relleno. All the food taste very good and serving big portions . You can also help yourself with chips and salsa.

Yelp
Visited this place while looking for a good Mexican food place in the area. I'm from Texas and just moved to the area and I'm having a hard time finding a place with home made flour tortillas and homemade food. So we attempted this place based on the reviews and this is the 5th Mexican restaurant where most of the food is not homemade and tortillas and beans taste store bought. So for the ambiance, this is a Mexican restaurant and all you would expect from an average Mexican restaurant. The Service was great and friendly. Now for the food. As mentioned to start my review, the tortillas and beans tasted store bought. The huevos rancheros were ok, but the salsa tasted different than the salsa ranchera I'm used. This was more or a different tasting salsa. The best part was the fresh squeezed orange juice and salsas they had with chips. But you would agree with me, no one goes to a Mexican restaurant just to eat chips and salsa. So overall I probably wouldn't go back for breakfast and probably not return. I might be good for others but for me, having grown up in Mexican household and used to homemade food and knowing what it should taste like, I will keep my search going for a good authentic Mexican good place.

Brittany S.

Yelp
The lady at the counter was very nice, everything was clean. We ordered 2 shrimp, 2 tripas, 2 lengua, & 2 pastor tacos. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. The tripas was nice and crispy. The lengua was good. The pastor was very hard. We also got the carne asada super nacho. Those nachos could have been very good if the carne asada wasn't old. It tasted very odd, a little like it had been defrosted and thawed a few times. It actually made me feel nauseous on the car ride home.
