Where To Eat & Drink In St. Louis

"St. Louis has plenty of barbecue spots, but Salt & Smoke is the move when you want to eat great ribs, and still go somewhere nice. This Delmar Loop staple is always slammed, but just go grab a seat at the bar and work through their pages-long bourbon menu or drink a cocktail while you wait. Once you get seated, go for the the prime brisket and ribs, along with the white cheddar cracker mac and cheese and green beans, if you’re truly in need of vegetables." - jen maylack

"Salt + Smoke opened in 2014, but don’t let its relative newness put you off—this place serves some seriously solid barbecue. The restaurant now features three insanely popular locations in Delmar Loop, Hampton, and St. Charles, with a fourth on the way in Central West End, all focused on barbecue, bourbon, and beer. Locals come in droves for the brisket made from prime beef and smoked for more than 16 hours, the St. Louis–style ribs, and the fried-jalapeno-and-cheddar bologna sandwich. Pair any of those with the white-cheddar-cracker mac and cheese and a bartender’s-choice flight of whiskeys and you’ll become a regular here yourself."

Yum! We got the ribs and pulled chicken with sides of baked beans, mac and cheese, greens, and fries. Our server was also very sweet and attending! The ribs were really good, the meat was tender with a large crust The pulled chicken was good but my family devoured it before I got a good chance to taste it lol The fries were really good, it's fried in beef fat and has a really yummy garlicky taste. The mac and cheese!!! Very creamy and good. I don't see creamy mac n cheeses that often because of grainy rouxes. The salad was good, the croutons were the best. Overall very good.

Had lunch at Salt + Smoke in Delmar recently and overall, it was a good experience — not mind-blowing, but definitely enjoyable. We sat outside on the patio which had a relaxed, laid-back vibe, perfect for a sunny afternoon with a glass of red wine (which we definitely took advantage of!). The staff was friendly and attentive, even with the outdoor crowd. We started off with a salad before diving into the heavier BBQ fare. Now for the main course — we went all in on the meat platter. Brisket, ribs, fries and coleslaw. The meats were well-seasoned and tender enough, though the ribs had a heavier bark than I personally prefer. The coleslaw was solid — crisp and balanced. But the real MVP of the meal? The French fries. I don’t know what kind of magic they put in those fries, but they were phenomenal. Perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, seasoned just right — honestly, I’d come back just for a bowl of those with a drink. In short, Salt + Smoke delivered a good BBQ meal with solid sides, but it was the fries that truly stole the show. Worth a stop if you’re in the area, especially if you’re craving some top-tier fries and a chill outdoor atmosphere.

Ordered take-out, so I’m NOT judging presentation. The food was nice, wish I took better pictures but just bear with me for the review. I ordered the Bestie Combo; 2 meats, 2 sides and it comes with this airy hallow bread (full of raising agent to make it become so big, i suppose) The 2 meats I ordered were (4) Hot ribs, and (4) hot chicken wings. Hot in this case meant hot sauce or hot bbq, I couldn’t tell. The 2 sides I ordered were Mac n cheese and beef fat fries. The first few bites of the fries made me taste something I was missing out my whole life, it tasted better than most fast food fries. I like that the fries weren’t flooded with salt. The mac n cheese was a bit too cheesy for me, but I did like the crust at the bottom of it. It added a special taste with each bite. The bread was alright, I was surprised by the size at first but then realized after one bite, that it’s basically a con. It’s very airy but I’m not complaining. I would come back to try another option or to order the same thing again. I definitely want to try the burnt ends next time.

We stopped here for a lunch of appetizers. We ordered Fried House Pickles, Burnt Ends Toasted Ravs, Hush Puppies, Cherry Smoked Wings and Loaded Beef Fat Fries. The Hush Puppies were very dense and bland. They are served with Maple Butter which was so delicious and helped give them flavor. The Loaded Beef Fat Fries are AMAZING! OMG 🤤. They are served with bacon, cheese sauce and Alabama ranch. They are so rich and garlicky. They are just so frickin good. The Cherry Smoked Wings were very flavorful and were nicely smoked. The Burnt End Toasted Ravs were nice and crispy. You wouldn’t know by eating them that the filling was supposed to be burnt ends. Overall they really lacked flavor. The Fried House Pickes are made with three kinds of pickles; B&B, Dill Spears and Gherkins. They were unique and they all were very sweet tasting, almost like they were bread and butter pickles. For drinks we had a Walnut Old Fashioned and a Pineapple Margarita. Both were so good. Like soooo good. We would love to come back and try some main courses next time. We went to this restaurant to celebrate one friend’s birthday. I ordered the three meats plate. The ribs were extremely dry and burnt out. The food itself was okay, but the service was terrible. Our waiter, Clare, was rude and unhelpful. Every table needed water, but it took forever for her to notice and ask if we needed it. She seemed to have an attitude.

Food was tasty. Great taste. Served was a bit bothered and it showed but she served everything timely. We ordered the ravioli and it was good too. Some food items were cold. Other than that food was great. This location has reconstruction in the front so not appealing but once inside can’t notice.

Google
Great experience. I love bbq and the lack of smoke emanating from the restaurant had me worried, BUT the food was fantastic. The mac and cheese, beans, potatoes, and corn were very good. The fatty brisket, pulled pork, and burger were amazing. The brisket flat was a little dry but the bbq sauce made up for that.

Google
I will start by recommending the hush puppies. Those were actually pretty good. They were cruchy on the outside and super soft on the inside. And the butter they come with was very yummy! The rest of the food was just ok. I'm glad I tried it, but I probably won't try it again. We had the loaded fat fries and the 2 meat plate with the ribs and the brisket. For our sides, we had the creamed corn and the mac n cheese. The ranch on the fries was a bit too salty for my taste, but otherwise ok. The meat was soft and tender but a bit on the plain side as far as flavor goes. Once you put the bbq sauce on it, it's ok. The creamed corn tasted more than bell peppers than corn. I definitely did not like that. The mac n cheese was ok, but it tasted more milky and less cheesy for my taste. The service was pretty good and efficient, although I don't think I ever saw our waitress smile or look at us. The place was pretty busy, so maybe she was rushed. Tables for 2 are super tiny. We had a hard time fitting everything in the table even though we didn't order that much. The place is decent, but I was a little underwhelmed with the whole experience.

Yelp
I came here with co-workers while in town for a conference. First off, the neighborhood is very cool. Beautiful homes along a tree-lined street opens up into this awesome downtown vibe with lots of restaurants, kitschy stores, and bars to choose from. Salt + Smoke was recommended on Yelp and my fellow Yelpers did not disappoint. Salt + Smoke is awesome! There was seating inside and outside and we sat inside. We ordered drinks and instead of frothy alcoholic drinks, we all opted for the highly recommended homemade sodas. The root beer - OMG! So good. I could not get enough of it. The food however, was really frggin tasty! I opted for their two meat two side option and with brisket and smoked wings. The two sides I ordered were the beef fat fries and the white cheddar cracker mac. The mac and cheese was a nice side combo with the fries. However, if they were better tasting I would have no idea as the brisket - tender and juicy, and the smoked wings - get the rub and not the sauce (just my opinion as they certainly don't need sauce) were really to die for. The smoked wings were tender, juicy, large and some of the best wings I've ever had. They also had some great sauces that accompanied the brisket, but as a true brisket lover, no sauce was needed. Just some great root beer to wash it all down. I was told by a local to get the Lemon Butter Gooey Cake so I took that to go (so good and a great palate cleanser after the meal). If I'm ever back in St. Louis, I'm heading over to their Delmar location. The service was friendly and extremely helpful as some of my travel mates were total rubes in figuring out what to order and our server helped immensely.

Yelp
As our first dining experience in St. Louis, Salt + Smoke left much to be desired. Unfortunately, poor service and lackluster BBQ made this visit a disappointing start to our trip. Cons: The service was the biggest issue. We waited 15 minutes before being greeted, and another 15 minutes before our food order was taken after placing drink orders. Worse yet, the signature BBQ sauces - a key element of any BBQ meal - weren't brought to the table until much later, forcing us to eat the dry BBQ without them. Speaking of the BBQ, it was tough, dry, and lacked the smoky tenderness that one would expect from a place with such a strong reputation. To make matters worse, our waiter seemed disinterested and disengaged, which only added to the frustration. Pros: There were some redeeming qualities. The mac and cheese was fantastic - creamy, flavorful, and everything you'd hope for in a comfort food classic. The drinks were well-made, and we appreciated the thoughtful touch of wipes at the table for cleaning up after a messy meal. However, these small positives couldn't salvage an otherwise disappointing experience. For what it's worth, Kansas City BBQ is much better than St. Louis. Final Thoughts: While there were some highlights, the poor service and dry BBQ were dealbreakers. For a restaurant with such a solid reputation, this visit fell far short of expectations. Sadly, we won't be returning, and I hope they can address these issues for future diners.

Yelp
A friend recommended this place for BBQ, although I'm not too much of a fan, I decided to check it out. It was okay, portion was enough for two people but was surprisingly not generous. The sauce selection was pretty good, not sure which one I enjoyed the most, I think it was the Hotangy one. Ordered some drinks as well and they were quite strong. Service was okay, the server was nice but it was a little slow considering it wasn't that busy. We sat inside and the table was wobbly so we asked to move to another seat. The inside was nicely decorated. I'll maybe try the other meat next time.

Yelp
Great service! Our waitress was super nice and helped us with some appetizers recommendations. We ordered the burnt ends toasted ravioli, 3 meat combo (fatty brisket, pulled pork, ribs) with sides of fries, potato salad, mac n cheese, and creamed corn. I loved the popover that came with it. Sweet tea was refreshing. Lemon gooey butter cake was a good end to the meal! Overlap really delicious. Inside decor is super cute and fun!

Yelp
The food was ok, I got the Bestie's combo with the pulled pork and brisket (first cut; lean), tomato and green bean salad, and a side of hush puppies with the maple butter. The bbq was a little dry for me but once I added the sauce it made it easier to eat. I liked the more sweet and the spicy sauces the best. The bartender was very nice and explained the different cuts of brisket and their sauces. They seem to a large variety of bourbons, and she was nice enough to let me taste one. Since it was my birthday, I was able to get a free dessert and I chose none other than the gooey butter cake which was absolutely amazing! Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. Decor is wooden pub that seems to fit right into the bbq theme.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Had a really nice and attentive waitress -- so she's saving this review. Give her a raise! Food was honestly pretty terrible. Ribs were extremely overcooked and tasted like cardboard. Brisket was over salted. The popover thing sounds good (cheddar, bacon) and is just not good. Literally the best part of my meal were the French fries. Don't waste your time and go to another bbq spot. Mac and cheese was ok I guess.

Yelp
This review is extremely late. I went to St. Louis for 48 hrs. Tried to cute little spot. Sat at the bar. The bartender was super nice and attentive. My drink was excellent. My ribs were just ok. Sauce was good but they weren't cooked nearly tender enough.

Yelp
After around three or four visits I'm gonna give a raving full 4+ for Salt + Smoke. The service, the food and even the value have been on point. The atmosphere is pretty cool and I like the Delmar Loop area. Parking is by paid off street or a free lot that's nearby and behind them. The walk up was debris free. The yellow awning is hard to miss if you do not see the signage, Over several visits the food has consistently been above average. I have enjoyed the brisket the most. The burnt ends have been a bit tough. In the past the pulled pork has been delicious. For sides the Mac is phenomenal. I also really like cream of corn. The entrees come with a huge roll that's soft and fresh. If you like bourbon they have a strong menu. My best service was just last month in May when I had the pleasure of having rockstar Chris who was one of the best servers I've ever had. Everything was on point from initial contact to follow ups to add info and even an add sauce brought out for dipping the yum onion rings made in-house. I learned he has been in customer service for 20 years. The biggest negative for me is the dining room noise and that's even with 50% to 75% full. So for me that's a deduction. They do offer outdoor dining which is an option. I look forward to returning and hopefully getting Chris again. 4.5 rounding down and you all must check them out.

Yelp
I like my brisket fatty. The service is good. Prompt attention and numerous servers. It was a slow night, Monday. So the vibe was chill and quiet, like that. I'm usually eating by myself and used to not having anyone to talk to. I'll be fine.

Yelp
One of my all time favorite places in St. Louis so I had to stop by when I was in town for work. I dream of their mac n cheese and beef fat fries. Their meat is also amazing, pulled pork and brisket are my go to. Service is always great but this time I went it was slow so they were especially attentive. I always come back when I am in town!

Yelp
Loved our meal at Salt + Smoke on a two day vacation to St. Louis. S+S is in a cute area near Wash U. and worth a trip to the area for those who don't live right there. Entered the Waitlist using the Yelp app, then checked in with the hostess. Several large family parties of 8-10 ahead of us, but I was keeping the app refreshed. But Beware! The app did not tell us our table was ready, wah wah. App/Restaurant waitlist fail. And a call from a 401 area code (Rhode Island) was apparently our "last call" for a table while standing two feet from the hostess stand? Hostess was quite janky with us being one minute late to check-in for our table. Not sure why the biz isn't calling names, or calling from a 314 area code for these calls, why would I pickup a random non-local area code while diligently watching my place via the Yelp app? That aside, we were duly seated by a different nice hostess. We went with the pulled pork sandwich, and also the brisket sandwich. Both were divine. The brisket was the most tender brisket I've ever had, and had plenty of fat. There's a nice offering of local craft beers here, and I enjoyed an IPA from Modern Brewing. We were rushed all meal, my plate was half full and I had the sandwich up to my face and the server asked if we were ready for dessert...After having to wait, diners better not be rushed while mid-bite! Still enjoyed Salt + Smoke recommend!

Yelp
The second highest rated barbecue in St Louis. This one is located in the Delmar shopping district it is surrounded by quirky eclectic shops. I sampled several meats and sides. My favorite was the chicken wings; smoky and succulent with a hint of 5 spice? They melted in my mouth. The cheese popover was perfect for sopping up the delicious sauces. I loved the "I can't even" and the sweet and spicy. The creamed corn was delicious as was the pimento ravioli. Our server was super nice especially afterwe told her it was our first time there.

Yelp
This review is for their Thanksgiving turkey. My sister's mother in law ordered it for the family for the holiday. It was easy and delicious!!! Excellent turkey - if you can afford it then make the holiday easy and delicious.

Yelp
My friends and I were in Missouri for a few days so we only had enough time to try out one BBQ spot. Since Salt + Smoke had the most number of reviews on Yelp and was close to where we were staying, we decided to check it out for dinner. As a party of 4, we were seated right away without a reservation. Overall, the food was somewhat below average and the service was noticeably sub-par. The full rack of St. Louis cut ribs we ordered were fall off the bone, but ate dry, similar to the texture you get when you think of dried, packaged jerky. You absolutely need to smother them in sauce in order to fully enjoy them. Of the four sauces available, my favorite one was the sweet heat followed by the mustard based sauce. Like the ribs, the pulled pork and pulled chicken were also dry. The brisket was far too lean. I see some folks mentioning in their review that you are able to request a fattier cut, but this option wasn't even presented to us, neither on the menu, or by our server. The meat combo plates come with an impressive looking popover, but this item seemed to be universally hated by diners. If you look around the restaurant, most diners didn't even touch theirs. With my platter, I got the coleslaw and the white cheddar cracker mac. The noodles for the mac was overcooked and the coleslaw was nothing special. Regarding the service, the server who was taking our orders looked very annoyed that we were not ready to order our drinks 15 seconds after we had sat down. Furthermore, when we pointed out that our order was incorrect -- that we were served pulled pork instead of pulled chicken for one of the meat platters, our server gave us an dead-pan, accusatory glare. When the right protein was finally brought over, our server was very snarky when the chicken was handed over to us, almost hinting that we were intentionally trying to take advantage of the situation that we had no control over. So confused! I deeply regret coming to Salt + Smoke over Pappy's Smokehouse or Stellar Hog.

Yelp
Holy hell. Stayed in St. Louis for the night. I really want some good barbecue and this little place really serves it up. Well everyone in this place was so nice to us and for how much food you get for the price it's unbeatable the trash ribs are to die for as well as their coleslaw. Also, their mac & cheese. I could bathe in that all day long. It's so good. Definitely will come back next time in St. Louis.

Yelp
We walked in after a baseball game had ended and it was a 15 minute wait. But we actually found seats at the bar right away. Typical sports bar- loud, casual, and service was not overly friendly. I wanted a hard seltzer and they only had popsicle or sno cone flavor. I ordered popsicle and it was ... not good. Very chemical aftertaste. But I ordered a half rack of ribs with fries. The fries were perfect consistency and crispiness. The ribs were delicious, I got the sweet bbq sauce and didn't regret it for a minute. My husband got brisket and tried all the sauces and ended up jealous of my meal. Both came with bacon/cheddar popovers and I didn't really get the appeal of those. I made such a mess of these ribs and enjoyed every bite. Affordable for a bar right near the stadium.

Yelp
Service: 5 stars Location: 5 stars, street parking was easy. Ambiance: 4.5 stars. Nice, but the bathroom could use some better cleaning (that day). Food: 4 stars. The brisket was cooked to perfection; the cole slaw was different - less vinegary and creamy, which I found interesting and really liked. The chicken wings were tasteful and were just a tad too dry. The St Louis rib was flavorful but very dry. The deviled eggs were mediocre, and the mac and cheese was not very good in my kid's opinion which I tend to agree with.

Yelp
We were recommended this spot by many locals and visitors alike. Walked in at lunch time and were quickly seated. Our server talked us through the menu and even offered to change up a plate so that I could have a sandwich and 2 sides. The pickles here are so dang good. I loved the alabama white sauce and the potato salad. BBQ was very tender but very smoky for my personal taste. There is a ton of seating inside and they have you in and out very quickly.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
A fun bbq spot! I wanted to try something different, so I went with the jalapeño and cheddar fried bologna sandwich. It had a little kick and lots of flavor! I ordered the kale crunch salad and my friend ordered the Mac and cheese, and we both split our sides. The Mac and cheese was a SHOWSTOPPER! So amazing. The salad was also pretty good - I loved all of the toppings. I don't usually order drinks other than water, but I got their tea (1/2 sweet) and it was delicious. Our server was kind and helpful as well. A great St Louis spot!

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner during a work trip and I wish I could bring this place back home to Chicago! Started with the deviled eggs and a sangria. The drink was ok, typical sugary sangria but the deviled eggs were filled and huge! The filled was very tasty and tasted some curry in there, idk if I'm right but it was good! Got the bestie combo with st Louie ribs and brisket comes with a big pop over bread and two sides. I got the hush puppies (up charge $3+) and the white Mac. Loved it all!! The Mac was a traditional Mac and cheese, it was very buttery and had ritz crackers in it. The ribs were smoked and juicy and the brisket was tender. I tried all sauces they had and my fav was the bestie sauce. If I go back to St. Louis is making a stop here!

Yelp
Big fan of this STL staple. I love splitting a meat platter with a friend. Our 2 favorites were the wings and ribs. So delicious! We went in non-peak hours, and had quick and friendly service. Will definitely be coming back to this fun BBQ spot!

Yelp
Nice lunch choice in University City. Along with BBQ offerings, enjoy some wonderful salads. Casual dining, fast friendly service. Can't go wrong choosing lunch time here.

Yelp
I ate here the first night after bring my daughter to Wash U so felt it was fitting to visit again on my last night after packing her up four years later. Nice to see not much has changed. The quality of the barbecue is good. There's better in STL though this place is solid. Love the bourbon selection and the beers are local and cold. My one recommendation is get some stronger hot sauce. For us brave and daring souls we need something that well - salts and smokes.... Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
A solid choice for Kansas City Bbq! I absolutely loved the pimento cheese toasted ravioli and the creamed corn. The meats were good, but the sides were the stars for me. Super friendly service and corrected a small mistake quickly and without hassle. The interior is full of natural light with all of their windows. They are situated in an old store in a great little fun and funky neighborhood. I imagine the summers in the neighborhood are fantastic. Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious as it always is! Brought some family here that flew in from California and needed to experience STL barbecue and they were very happy. We also got the fried pickles as an appetizer which were yum! Our server was great and we were seated immediately. We asked to sit outside and were seated along the curb which wasn't ideal but it was a beautiful day and can't really complain about that!

Yelp
We were on our way to Kansas City, MO for a concert. We stopped in St. Louis because we're old and it's easier to break a drive from Cincinnati to KS in half. We met FB friends in person in St. Louis and stayed in the same hotel. We made plans for dinner and decided bbq was the way to go. Salt + Smoke had great reviews so that's where we ended up. Without a reservation, we were seated immediately. Score! Our waitress was super nice and helpful. I ordered the Brisket Plate. I added 'ends' at our waitresses recommendation (a good recommendation). dinner came with a Bacon & Cheddar Popover and two sides - Pit Beans with Smoked Bacon and Sweet Pepper Potato Salad. It all sounded outstanding! And I'll be honest, it was good. But remember we were on a trip to Kansas City and this was our first bbq stop. Comparing it to my brisket meal in KS and the brisket meal in Wentzville, Salt + Smoke ended up in third place. So first place gets five stars, second gets four and Salt + Smoke gets three.

Baldemar R.

Yelp
I didn't feel like getting dressed and trying out this location so I Uber Eats this order. It was super quick as it is close by the hotel. Overall I really wanted to give them a 4 stars but just couldn't. The wings were amazing and definitely will order again just based on the wings also. Everything else was ok and the brisket was just too fatty. Beans were under cooked and hard, mac and cheese was ok. Popover maybe would taste good fresh from the oven.
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Food was good, but just not great. So rather a disappointment versus the reviews, we read. Ribs were overcooked and we're just nothing special. The pulled pork was good, but the brisket was very dry and lacked flavor. Waiter did not seem interested in us being there. So I would not go back and could not recommend this place although the food was not terrible. It's just not compelling. Best part of the meal was the baked beans.

Yelp
First time to this location and restaurant and it was nothing short of amazing! I highly recommend anybody visiting St. Louis to come and enjoy a fabulous dinner and great cocktail. One of the best bourbon selections!

Yelp
Great food, quick service, and busy for a reason! The food was delicious as we never had the raviolis before. I highly recommend them!! The BLT was standard nothing special, but the fries were really good. The ribs were delicious and I'd definitely come again

Yelp
Wow. We ended up at this location as the first location we tried to go to was packed. It was worth the drive. We were going to sit outside, but the bartender encouraged us to sit at the bar, so we did. And we were so glad we did. The bartender, Paul, was really cool, friendly and offered great advice on their walnut old fashioned, which we ended up buying a bottle of. He gave a run-down on the sauces, which prompted me to try those that I wouldn't have normally, as I thought they may have been hot. Even bought of a bottle of their Hotangy, which was vinegar based, but not too peppery. The meat was super tender, the brisket and chicken sandwich, the sauces I tried (their sweet and hotangy) were both really good. The sides were their beans (thick and great flavor) and their coleslaw (meh, not a fan, not much flavor and too dry). I subbed out their popover for a bun and the popover was great, good bacon flavor crusty and chewy. The relish was really creamy and good and the pimento cheese was good. We also had an Excel black cherry which was very light, not a ton of flavor but it hit the spot and was good.
google avatar

Yelp
I did return (to the BallPark Village location) and got the large Kale Salad. It's soooooo good. I also got the pimento toasted raviolis. The service here was great too. I was with a larger party so we had to wait for everyone to arrive. That's understandable. The BPV location is more touristy but it's nice and big. I will return again for that incredible salad!

Yelp
Such good food! I went with my two friends who are locals, one of which grew up in the neighborhood. I hadn't had St. Louis BBQ for about eight years and was excited to try it again. I'm a vegetarian who will occasionally eat meat, and I decided to flex so I could enjoy the local specialties. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich with a side of their cracker mac. I added some potato salad on the side as well. My friends both got the brisket platter with the cheddar mac, one got the fries and one got the corn. We split the burnt ends toasted ravs. I had never had toasted ravioli before and they were so tasty (although my friends were scandalized that they came with a dipping sauce that wasn't marinara). I thought the BBQ was delicious, particularly with the sauces they had on offer. The mac was EXTREMELY delicious, with the Ritz cracker really leveling it up. If you're looking for some good BBQ in the Loop, you should stop here! Get a reservation if you can, it's always busy.

Yelp
BEST BBQ IN ALL OF ST LOUIS. The service is so fast like Chick-fil-A of jimmy John's fast. I had my order out to me in 4 minutes. Everything tasted excellent. Love the trashed wings a buddy of mine introduced me to on the menu. Now I order every time I go. They have many locations. The 2 locations I really like are on Delmar loop and next the cardinals stadium. Menu items are priced very well. You pay for the quality of the meat everything is just great.

Yelp
The staff is awesome! Super friendly, not pushy, helpful, fun. We ordered the gin strawberry cocktail and a margarita. I'm not sure there was alcohol in either of them... with gin you can typically taste it. The meal came out about 3 minutes after we ordered... way too fast, not hot, the popover was burned. The brisket was really fatty, or we got the fatty section of the cut. All this said, still left a 20% tip as our waiter was great. I wouldn't recommend this spot nor go back. Surprising because it was recommended by numerous people.

Yelp
Service was prompt and our order was correct. The meats are mouth watering but the sides absolutely make the meal. There wasn't anything we did not enjoy! My favorite was the creamed corn and the mac. The bologna is delicious, just wish it was a little thicker. Brisket was on point and the ribs truly are STL style.

Yelp
Had an opportunity to taste this delicious food at the Taste of St. Louis! Even before I was able to taste the flavorful smoked wings and coleslaw...the customer service experience was TOP NOTCH!!! I was greeted with a smile and the ladies were so polite! My food was affordable however, extremely tasty! The smoke flavor was amazing!! I'd suggest everyone try it!

Yelp
Always a good night at Salt & Smoke Del Mar Loop. Location is perfect and the BBQ is unreal. My son loves the fried Bologna sandwich with jalapeño & cheese. The St Louis ribs and brisket are so tender you don't need a knife!

Yelp
While sitting in the hotel lobby near the airport, and considering ordering something to eat from the restaurant, it suddenly dawned on me that.....wait a minute, I'm in St Louis, don't they have some epic BBQ here? A quick search on Yelp landed me at this place and boy am I glad it did! The place had me at the front door, greeted nicely by a friendly and pleasant hostess, who seated us and invited us to "have a nice meal". I ordered a combo - brisket and ribs, chose Mac n cheese as one of my side ls and Cole slaw as the other. The meal included a popover which was amazing. The meat was tender and not over smoked, paired nicely with a local IPA, Mac n cheese was gooey and nice, and the Cole slaw fresh and crispy/crunchy. The ambiance presented low light and a chill vibe, if you wanted to party a bit you can cross the street or head down the road; plenty of lively locations nearby. In summary, legit BBQ stop, definitely recommend it.

Yelp
I admit I wasn't too pleased to come here when our original choice was closed on Mondays but we decided to look over the menu and see if they had anything I could eat. I wanted veggies and salad after a few nights eating at heavy steakhouses with my husband and his friends. They did indeed have veggies for me - I ordered their main salad as my entree in size large (they also have a smaller size) which was light and fresh and absolutely delicious. It had shaved cabbage and brussel sprouts as well as some citrus vinaigrette dressing, corn, cranberries and some other yummy items. I added smoked salmon for protein and it was a win. I cleaned the plate. My husband ordered their smoked chicken wings and toasted brisket ravioli for the table both served with a light vinegar ranch sauce that was to die for. Both were very good. My husband's entree was a half rack of ribs so I could try St. Louis BBQ ribs from the mother land and they were phenomenal here. Perfectly cooked. Moist and delicious. Love that they had about 4 flavors of BBQ sauce on the table. We also tried the beans with bacon and Cole slaw. Our service was excellent - a young and conscientious server who took such good care of us and perfectly timed the meal for us. He was excellent. A fabulous experience here with some quality food that was obviously all made fresh and made in-house. When we come back to St. Louis to see family - I will be sure this is on the list. I loved it.

Yelp
The staff were all super attentive and friendly however the food was just alright.. it was our first time trying St. Louis style bbq and frankly we were unimpressed. The meat was super dry and required to be drenched in sauce. Our favorite part of the meal was the French fries.

Yelp
Here's what you need to know: meat was serviceable but nowhere close to great. Ribs were over smoked, brisket was way too dry and lean, sauces just aren't good - all 4 of them. Old fashioned was unbelievably sweet - like a dessert. Service was excellent. Price is fair. Overall I would not consider this a destination for myself but it's serviceable. Smoked chicken wings were better than the Bork and beef which is just nuts because I don't even like chicken very much. Max n cheese was quu up its good. Greens and tomatoes were served chilled that I really enjoyed. Seasoning was acidic and just ok but it was the right cold acid/salad to cut the rich meats. Overall, I was hoping for so much more as this was the 2nd salt + smoke we had to drive to during our visit to STL after the first one we tried (downtown close to the arch) was sold out of most meat. We sat outside on a beautiful summer day so ambiance was very enjoyable. We paid $120 for a meal for 3 adults with 1 drink each

Yelp
This restaurant is in a great location in the loop but unfortunately its all street parking. The inside is spacious enough to have a range of seating from romantic nooks to being comfortable enough for big groups. We were seated promptly as we had queued ourselves on the waitlist. However at that late at night, it didnt seem to have a wait time for a table. Our server answered our questions and let us know that she could replace any drink or food, if we happened to not like our choice. For drinks I had the baconator and my husband had the modern citrapolis. Great drinks! For our dinner, I ordered the brisket sandwich, my husband ordered the 2 combo of ribs and brisket and my son had the BLT. The brisket sandwich was so good with the sauce and fatty+juicy brisket. My only complaint would be that the meat quantity looked very sparse in the sandwich. The combo plate with ribs and brisket were amazing - I loved the ribs - nicely smoky, crunchy bark and still tender inside. My kids enjoyed their BLT and kids cheeseburger. My side of popover wasnt as impressive as I thought it would be...little gummy on the inside. Nonetheless, its worth a visit for the star of the restaurant - the ribs, brisket and drinks!

Yelp
Some of the best brisket I've ever had. Decent prices and quality food. Was recommended this place by a lot of Redditors and decided to check it out while in town. The brisket was astounding. Melts in your mouth. The mac and cheese was phenomenal and I love the touch of the crackers in the dish. The cream corn was awesome as well. The cornbread muffin is a cute little addition that really brings the whole meal together. Overall, no complaints on the food at all. Service was fast and attentive and the local orange pop is to die for. Can be difficult to find parking in the area, but damn this is worth it.

Yelp
Delicious restaurant, the bartender was INCREDIBLE! He knew his stuff, was wayyyy personable and knew his whiskeys. We had the best time here and ended up staying longer than planned as we got caught in a rainstorm so chose to wait it out with our excellent bartender friend!

Yelp
First of all, I've been to this place about a handful of times and never got a chance to write a review. No way, right? They were a food vendor today at the Wash U's graduation and when I saw their tent I darted to get me some good eating! The pulled pork sandwich was amazing and the tangy hot sauce I topped it with was yummy! The coleslaw was good and let me tell you it's not my first pick when it comes to sides. This is the exception! In the past, I've had their smoked trashed wings, kale salad, and deviled eggs. All great choices if you are puzzled about what to pick. You will not go wrong with anything on the menu honestly. Their service is top-notch! The managers, hostesses, and wait staff are all amazing. I remember we had a big order one day for a work meeting and the managers made sure everything was correct and ran smoothly the entire process. The inside of the restaurant is clean and if the weather is nice eating on the patio feels great. One of my favorite BBQ places in town.

Yelp
We ordered through Door Dash. Kids Grilled Cheese with Beef fries 2 meat combo, Brisket and salmon with Coleslaw and hush puppies. However based on what we had... I will not be ordering again, either through a deliver service or in person. Everything was coated in salt. Is salmon from this restaurant typically served cold, because It seemed that a container of slimy cold salmon was taken right from the fridge and placed in my bag. The pop over (this was my first popover - so this could be typical) seemed like a very crusty empty tomb of a muffin, with a very salted muffin top. The brisket I ordered was lukewarm. But the most acceptable item of this really unacceptable meal. The hush puppies were rock hard. The coleslaw was nasty. The cabbage was wilted and drenched in vinegar, completely spat it out. The grilled cheese - I mean, you are making a kids meal. So, why use a white cheddar cheese vs. Yellow cheddar. My son hated it and he typically loves grilled cheeses. I ended up tossing it and making a sandwich for him. The beef fries that were part of the kids meal were so coated in salt. Even wiping as much as possible off, they were like salt lick fries. Complete waste of food that we ended up tossing it in the trash because it was just that terrible and time we had been trying to save by having a meal from what seemed like a good option delivered, when I had to essentially make us all a palatable meal.
