Where to Eat in San Juan, Where Restaurants Aren’t Just Rebuilding—They’re Thriving | Bon Appétit

"The sun-kissed and impeccably dressed flock to1919inside the ritzy Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, where chef Juan José Cuevas preaches the gospel of local produce from a fine-dining pulpit. Cuevas, who earned a Michelin star helming Blue Hill, has spent years cultivating relationships with family farms like Frutos Del Guacabo in Manatí and Josco Bravo in the Toa Alta mountains. His tasting menu deploys their produce, taking diners on a whirlwind tour of modern Puerto Rican food with local queen snapper in ají amarillo broth and crispy cochinillo (suckling pig) with caramelized eggplant, dried lime, and fresh yogurt. It’s a full-throated salute to regional ingredients, as breathtaking as the restaurant’s ocean views. Bonus: Well-fed diners are sent off with nutty banana bread." - ByAliza Abarbanel

The smiling owner greets you at the door. Sit and enjoy friendly service. Food is good, and plentiful. Drinks are fine. Tables are well spaced. Restaurant and bathrooms are clean. Dessert is excellent. Ample parking in rear of establishment. Nice place. ♿️

Many times passing by this place and telling myself “one day I will try it”. DAAAMM! Why I waited so long? I finally did and was amazingly good. So great customer service and the tasteful food is in another level. Highly recommended.

So happy we stumbled upon this place. One of the best meals we had on the island and very quick service! Although there was a language barrier between us and the waitress she worked with us and made the experience so great! Highly highly recommend coming here. Ps. Do not use apple maps to find. It sent us to an old location which is now a grocery store. We google mapped it after and it was about 3 minutes away.

We just ate our favorite meal, of our stay in Manati, at Salt and Pepper. The carribean shrimp was so tasty and fresh. My girlfriend had the stuffed eggplant with shrimp and vodka sauce which she said was amazing. Our husbands both had their favorite, chicken parmesan. Along with the fabulous food was our comradery with the owner Mike. He was the icing on the cake!!! What a wonderful conversation we had with him. He is truly a wonderful family man working hard at his family restaurant. He taught his son well to cook !! Thank you Mike for an amazing dining experience as well as your fellowship!! Bob, Karen, Roy and Cheryl!!

Good food, great service, big portions. The argentinian surf & turf was great, the mushroom sauce… outstanding. Careful about the chicken rice soup and mamposteao, its not bad, but its not what we expected. About the desserts, the lechoza (cooked papaya) was delicious but the other ones were average. Parking is not visually appealing, is more like a labyrinth, we parked outside. Credit cards accepted.

This place is amazing and one of my favorite restaurants on the island. The food is just so good and the owners and wait staff are very friendly and personable and take pride in what they do. I always eat here when in the Manati/Arecibo area.

Lovely time at Salt and Pepper. The variety of food is good with a menu rangingfrom international to local Puertorican food. They have pastas, meats, mofongos, plantain soup and many more. Prices are good and to the same level as a Chillis or Applebees. I had the pasta with chicken and shrimp and it was really good. In general the food was tasty and the place was comfortable with a nice ambience.

Yelp
Pleasant experience. Mike, the owner, welcomed us at the door. Service was quick. All our food was plentiful, and tasty, as were the drinks. Very comfortable, clean establishment.
