Kinda sad (but not that sad) that I totally forgot to take a picture... but honestly, I was way too interested in digging into the ice cream than taking a picture. I'd been waiting to swing by after my Disney trip. When we got there, the line wasn't too long, which surprised me. It was maybe less than a 10-minute wait. Three people were scooping, so it moved super fast.
We sampled a few flavors, because how can you not? Free ice cream samples, count me in. I ended up sampling a few of them, but ended up going with Hazelnut Cookies & Cream (vegan!) and Coffee & Love Nuts. Salt & Straw has some unique and interesting flavors, so sampling is definitely the move if you're not sure if you'll like it based on the name. If you're looking for "normal" ice cream, then this probably isn't your spot. They love to get experimental, since I remember my last visit, I saw a tomato gelato with olive brittle. Weird? Yes. But somehow... it kinda works? Which also puzzled me.
That said, they do have some more toned-down flavors too. The Hazelnut Cookies & Cream was a safe but solid pick. It is a nice and fun vegan twist on a classic. It had a subtle coconut flavor that really worked well with the hazelnuts. and cookies and cream. It really helped bring the two things together in a different way. I was surprised how well they tasted together. The hazelnut also added a nice crunch that just gave it a bite that I liked. The same goes for the Coffee & Love Nuts. It had a bold, rich coffee flavor, and the sweet, nutty crunch gave it the perfect texture. Both flavors were super satisfying without being too out there.
This time, I played it safe since I was sharing and didn't want to risk picking something my friend might totally hate. But next time? I'm definitely down to try something a little more out there. Salt & Straw always has these unique flavors and that is kind of why I like this place. It is fun seeing what creative or weird flavors they come up with. Definitely will be back, and can't wait til my next visit.
