Simply came in to get ice cream. ~6:35pm. When it was my turn, I was waved over and I walked up to the counter. I said hello to the team member and, assuming her pronouns here, she just rolled her eyes at me.
I asked to try the pineapple upside down flavor, and she made a miserable face and went over and scooped a tiny spoonful.
She handed it to me, I tried it, looked her in the eye, said thank you, she just returned a blanke stare.. so naturally, I spun on my toe and walked right out of there.
I am not sure if this person‘s demeanor was due to me and/or any of my characteristics: single, tall, white-presenting male — or if they were just having a lousy day — or if they’re generally like this, or if there are some gaps in salt and straws, employee training program… No idea. What I do know, is that their demeanor totally killed my appetite for ice cream, and my desire to patronize salt and straw ever again. RIP Rite Aid.
The experience was actually so bad, that I feel the need to take a shower — which I will do before I go over to Rose and Saffron ice cream on Westwood Boulevard, assuming my desire for ice cream returns tonight.
Wishing the unhappy-presenting person and their employer, all the best!
