Yelp
My son and I visited this location this afternoon and out of the mouth of a child - mom, did you feel like people were staring at us. How does a parent respond to that? Especially when I felt awkward myself - out of place, but I was going to keep that feeling to myself. I want to be clear, we were not mistreated in any way. The employees were professional and other patrons, well their "body language" was speaking a different language. Why? One could speculate. I won't ding Salt & Straw for the community looking at "folks" funny. I won't disclose our race but we are the minority not the majority in Manhattan. Let's jump right into this review.
What did we order?
Honey Lavender - Calling all
Lavender lovers. Pounds of lavender petals in local honey, bringing out more complex, herbaceous flavors than you've ever experienced. **Woo hoo!!! This flavor is a no brainer if you like Lavender. Love the potency of the Lavender that is Intergrated well with the honey**
Cinnamon Snickedoodle - House-baked chewy snickerdoodle cookies into ice cream that's spiked with the most intensely spiced, warm cinnamon.
Bananas Foster with Candied Pecans - MONTHLY SERIES FLAVOR
Bananas Foster is a recreation of its signature flavor by simmering ripe bananas, dark rum, brown sugar, and spices into a rich caramel, then drizzle it into a banana-infused coconut cream. Crunchy candied pecans add pops of texture and a touch of nutty bitterness. ** If you love bananas, you will live this flavor!!!**
One scoop is $6.50 in a cup. Cones and bowls = extra.
Pros
1. You can sample flavors, as many as you like, try all of them if you like.
2. Establishment was clean with some indoor seating available. The inside is asethically pleasing - exposed wood and modern.
3. They sell unique flavors. The pairing of odd ball ingredients is pretty genuis.
Cons
1. This location is in the Manhattan Beach area and base on our experience - perhaps people of our skin complexion don't visit often but we felt uncomfortable and received stares.
2. Parking will be a challenge. Hopefully you can find parking on one of the meters close by or on one of the side streets.
My son and I have been to the Culver City location and didn't experience feeling awkward or being stared at. Go figure.
But, we were treated with respect, ice cream was delicious, and prices are what they are. You pay for what you get. I'm willing to pay the price for delicious ice cream. I would go back. You may want to know why, well, stares I cannot control and the feeling awkard is something I can overlook. My money spends just like the next patron. As long as I am treated with respect, I will consider the patrons are just captivated by me and my son's beauty.
10 toes down and 10 fingers up, Salt & Straw is leading in the flavor game.
If you looking for some delicious ice cream - pull up and try Salt & Straw.
