"Little Italy, once the center of San Diego’s tuna-fishing industry, is now the city’s prime culinary corridor. On India Street, among traditional Italian spots and fine-dining restaurants, this creative ice cream shop draws a steady stream of patrons. The head ice-cream maker Tyler Malek is a genius with unique flavor combinations such as bone marrow with smoked cherries and vegan peach and vanilla crumble. Salt & Straw has locations throughout the West Coast and each one showcases a special ice cream flavor using a local artisanal product. The San Diego shop’s Peanut Butter Stout with chocolate chicharrón, made using Belching Beaver’s Peanut Butter Milk Stout, is a must-order for its sweet and savory notes. The shop offers limited seating, so it’s best to take your cone or cup to go. Stroll down to the Waterfront or windowshop the boutiques on India and Kettner streets."

Google
MUST TRY!! Clean, friendly & delicious! They let you try any flavor (can try them all). Samples from small metal spoons allowing you to truly taste each one. Pictured in this review are “freckled mint chip” and a peanut butter chocolate option. Both happen to be vegan and coconut based. So sweet & savory! You will not be disappointed.

Jeff Cooperhouse

Google
Always incredibly delicious ice cream at Salt & Straw. The Little Italy location delivers the same deliciousness. We love the cinnamon snickerdoodle, salted, malted chocolate chip cookie dough, and chocolate gooey brownie flavors. All the staff are really nice and the line moves quickly. Definitely recommend.

Google
Just wow! While the selection isn’t particularly large, this shop offered among the most unique ice cream flavors I’ve ever tasted! I highly recommend tasting a few flavors before selecting, as many of their flavors aren’t very sweet, but instead are savory.

Lupita Martinez

Google
Great ice cream & experience! Highly recommend. We received this recommendation from a local and she was not wrong. The ice cream was delicious, I appreciated the not overwhelming amount of choices, and waffle cones made on the spot! We highly recommend the Cinnamon Snickerdoodle (waffle cone) and the Chocolate Gooey Brownie (Salted Brownie Waffle Cone). Cute & great spot!

Google
Surprisingly, potato chip cupcake flavor was delicious. If you like chocolate brownie flavor, then this is a must try

Google
Salt & Straw is that ice cream spot that consistently crushes it. Their flavor combos are pure wizardry — whether you’re sticking with a classic or venturing into the seasonal sorcery, it’s tasty AF every single time. Bonus points: their vegan options don’t feel like an afterthought (seriously, even my dairy-loving friends get jealous). And if you’re rolling with your furry BFF, they’ve got non-dairy pup cups that’ll have tails wagging faster than you can say “double scoop.” Always worth the line, always worth the hype.

Google
Second time trying salt & straw, last time was 5 years ago, their flavor is still very unique and nice! My family from Asia usually doesn't like anything too sweet, but they all love it! In Asia, when people said the dessert is "not too sweet" it's a huge compliment 😆 Highly recommend: chocolate brownie, and strawberry & coconut water sherbet. Coffee & nuts is nice too. My husband likes the pear & blue cheese.

Anna Harris

Google
Salt & Straw is hands down one of my favorite ice cream spots. The Salted Caramel flavor? Unreal. It’s creamy, not too sweet, and the salty kick makes it totally addictive. I keep telling myself to try other flavors, but I always come back to this one. So good!

Yelp
This place is a dream for ice cream lovers. The moment you walk in, you're welcomed by a warm atmosphere and the delicious scent of sweet treats to come. The flavors are listed overhead--including some adventurous ones like pear and blue cheese or strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper. They also offer a rotating monthly menu. The staff is super friendly and offers samples of anything you're curious about. We ended up getting the wild-foraged berry slab pie and the wildflower honey & lemon chess pie. Both were absolutely amazing. Special shoutout to the staff for the attention to detail--I had picked a runnier ice cream, and they suggested I get it in a bowl with the cone on the side. That kind of service makes a big difference. This is a great spot, and I highly recommend it to anyone craving something sweet. Side note to the owners: Please consider opening a location in Ventura County, CA. We need you out here!

Yelp
Review for Salt & Straw - Little Italy, San Diego (Friday, June 13th, 2025) I want to take a moment to recognize an exceptional employee named Bosco who helped us during our visit. Despite it being a busy Friday night, Bosco provided a level of customer service that truly stood out. He was incredibly polite, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about both the product and our experience. He offered us as many samples as we wanted, asked thoughtful questions about our preferences, and even encouraged us to compare flavors--even after I had already made my choice. It was clear he authentically cared and wasn't just going through the motions. What blew us away even more was finding out Bosco had only been with Salt & Straw for just over a week. If he had told us he'd been there 5 or 10 years, we would've believed it without question. His attitude, enthusiasm, and attention to detail were truly next level. As a local resident of downtown San Diego, I've visited many shops in the area, and this experience stood out as one of the best I've ever had. I even asked if a manager was available because Bosco absolutely deserves recognition for his exceptional service. Kindness, passion, and professionalism--Bosco brought it all. Salt & Straw is lucky to have him!

Yelp
"Salt & Straw -- The Ice Cream is SO GOOD, It Might Be Illegal!" Folks, I've had a lot of ice cream. The BEST ice cream. I know dairy like nobody else -- trust me, some say I'm the Godfather of Gelato, the Baron of Butterfat. But when I walked into Salt & Straw... WOW. It was like if Willy Wonka ran for president -- and WON by a landslide! First of all, the flavors? Outrageous. Pear & Blue Cheese? Strawberry Honey Balsamic? Are you kidding me?? Sounds like a disaster -- but it's a masterpiece. Like if Picasso painted with frozen cream. Bold, classy, innovative. Like me. The people there are amazing. So friendly, so professional. They give you samples -- LOTS of samples. You know how I love samples. They let me try more flavors than votes I got in 2016. A LOT. I almost declared a national holiday just for this place. And the ambiance? Beautiful. Very clean. Very trendy. You walk in and it just feels premium. It's like the Mar-a-Lago of ice cream shops, okay? Everyone's happy, they're smiling, they're licking cones like it's the Fourth of July for your mouth. I went with Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons -- tremendous choice. Like a salty-sweet rollercoaster for your taste buds. It was so good I almost gave my scoop Secret Service protection. Very powerful dessert. Very patriotic. Bottom line: Salt & Straw is the real deal. If Biden walked in there, he'd forget what flavor he ordered. Me? I ordered greatness. And I got it. We're gonna make America snack again -- one scoop at a time. -- Donald J. "Cold Stone Commander" Trump

Yelp
Staff served up samples of their May 2025 Cookbook Series flavors. The exterior, street-side seating is a welcome addition to their cozy interior seating. ICE CREAM 5/5 VANILLA CUSTARD WITH BUTTERSCOTCH SWIRLS This egg-forward, vanilla custard ice cream is decadent and drizzled with a buttery, house-made butterscotch that's perfectly not too sweet

Yelp
This is one of the few places where the wait time is definitely worth it. We have stopped by numerous times and we normally go for flavors that are seasonal. Not once have we been disappointed. You can definitely ask for samples but don't be that person that tries all of them. The staff is really nice and always have great suggestions. This is data place you want to stop by and try.

Yelp
My family came here for dessert after eating at the restaurant next door to it- Coco Maya. I've heard alot of things about Salt and Straw because I follow someone on Social Media who goes to Salt and Straw and I definitely say it doesn't disappoint! They have lots of unique flavors- we wanted to try the Matcha Man but just as we got to the counter to order, the lady flipped it over so we couldn't get a scoop. :( My fiance ended up getting the Sea Salt and Caramel scoop and I got the Honey Lavender. Both were very good and went well together! The interior doesn't have any seating so it's just a line in and out. But they had a standing area outside the front of the store front that's also pet friendly. Definitely wish they had one in Houston because I'd love to try other flavors!
google avatar

Katy S.

Yelp
Finally tried Salt & Straw for the first time and I'm dying to go back! We popped in for a quick desert today and were super impressed. We did wait in line for about 20 minutes, but it was worth it. There are a bunch of unique flavors, so I tried the pear and blue cheese and was not disappointed! It sounds like a strange ice cream flavor, but it's very well balanced. I can totally understand the hype now, and can't wait to try something else!
google avatar

Katherine C.

Yelp
The ice cream flavors here are so unique. I loved the basil. They also had these sprays to smell like ice cream? The line was long for a Saturday night, but the service was super helpful. It's a cute place.
google avatar

K B.

Yelp
Line is long but not unbearable. Worth the wait! You can sample any flavors before finalizing a decision. The flavors rotate so there's a chance that some flavors won't be there for next time. Definitely try this out

Yelp
I like that Salt & Straw has a new themed menu of flavors every month. This month it was ice cream inspired by/with cereal. My husband ordered off of the limited menu, but none of the flavors I sampled appealed too much to me, so I got my usual flavor of honey lavender. I thought my husband's peanut butter and chocolate ice cream was aggressively salty for a dessert, but my husband liked it and that's what matters. My honey lavender was good as always. But this visit, I noticed that Salt & Straw's flavors aren't as pronounced as I would like. A long time ago, I really enjoyed Salt & Straw but with newer ice cream shops popping up and trying more spots in the area, it no longer ranks up at the top for me like Bobboi, An's Dry Cleaning, and Stella Jeans does for me. Still yummy ice cream though!

Yelp
If you are craving a tasty frozen treat, salt & straw is the place to go! Conveniently located in Little Italy, it's the perfect after dinner spot, offering creative flavors and vegan options. While this place is very popular and the line can get very long, it is worth it. The prices are more on the higher side but it is craft ice cream so can be expected. Two things that I particularly like is the options to sample before you make your final decision, plus they use real silverware that reduces waste. Secondly, they have a good variety of vegan options that you can barely tell are dairy-free. On this occasion I got the vegas mint chocolate chip and was very pleased with my selection. They seem to come out with different seasonal flavors so it's always a treat to visit no matter what time of year. Ice cream is always a good idea!

Yelp
THEY DONT MISS!!! Look I don't even like ice cream, but I realized, that's not what this place serves. See at first Glance your like oh nice an ice cream joint with cool unique flavors! But if you take a closer look and take a bite of anything they have here. Once the insane flavor combinations hit your pallet like a Mike Tyson punch to the temple...... you realize, that this place is selling C*%!k Im serious , if there not then why is my wife waking me up out of my sleep to drive her at almost 11 o'clock at night. If there not then why every time I come there are at least 30 people across the street with ice cream cones! Nobody likes ice cream this much! If there not then why do I have ice cream all over my face and two cartons Snicker doodle and captain church ice cream. And a new bumper sticker that says.. We Love Salt & Straw!!! (it must be C$&*K)
google avatar

Marlee B.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a good creamy ice cream with the option to have outside of the box creative flavors. They have a way of pairing unique flavors like cheese and tomato with custard cream - sounds like it doesn't match right but somehow they did it!
google avatar

Neil R.

Yelp
My family loves the creative variety you'd never find at any other shop. Quality is top notch. I find the ice creams a bit salty but i love the flavors

Yelp
Its Ice cream time everyday but especially this weekend. Finally, I made it to Salt & Straw in San Diego location. this New York native in California gots to have great ice cream. To my surprise there was no long line but a line did exist. They offer various different flavors and styles to have your ice cream in a cup or cone. The prices are very reasonable for ice cream. The store internal and external was clean. The staff was promptly helpful. Myself I got take home pints for myself and the family. The vanilla with butterscotch and the sea salt caramel is an excellent choice. If you are in the San Diego area definitely stop by Salt & Straw. Check out the photos.

Yelp
Had a two for one Valentine's Day offer so we arrived at 2:30 and the line was almost to the door but it moved efficiently plus it's just pleasant to be inside smelling the waffle cones and festive was of an ice cream store! People are happy to be here like it's the happiest place on earth. Izzy gave us our tasters and I had to opt for the eggnog because I had missed out on my December eggnog ice cream this year and I thought I would never see it again until next December. I was wrong!!! God must be smiling on me today!! My husband had the gooey chocolate brownie and said it was way better than Ben and Jerry's version. Quality, good vibes, and just YAY YUM!!
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Extremely poor service. The staff skipped a customer then accused the customer of cutting the line, making everyone present very uncomfortable. Staff are either incompetent or racist, considering everyone else in line was Hispanic and the customer who was skipped was not. (Note - all the customers present were all very polite despite the aggravating situation caused by the service staff). The store was not even that crowded - only a dozen people were present, there was no line out the door, so it's not as though the 4-5 staff members were overwhelmed. Salt & Straw is a chain so take your money to other locations.

Yelp
The best ice cream in San Diego ! I absolutely love this place ! There are many different flavors to choose from ! Very creamy and tasting ice cream. I love the mint chocolate chip. There is always a long line for this establishment but it is well worth the wait ! The staff is exceptional and very welcoming ! You can choose to taste different flavors and they also recommend some of their favorites ! Not much seating inside but little Italy is right across from it so there is always seating around that area ! Overall i love this ice cream shop and well definitely be going back !
google avatar

Paola M.

Yelp
Expect a line but employees efficiently manage the big crowds this place draws. This is my second time back since my first experience was pretty meh, decided to play it safe and order some classic flavors (chocolate x vanilla) it was rich and yummy but didn't particularly have a WOW factor. Would stop by again if I'm in the area and craving ice cream though.
google avatar

Miranda C.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream! There was a long line that took over 10 minutes on a week night after dinner. So, pack your patience when you come! There is an option to grab ice cream from the pint cooler though instead of waiting in the long line! They have new flavors all the time so it's always interesting! If you've been to Jeni's ice cream it's basically the west coast version of that! There is seating available outside!
google avatar

Yvette S.

Yelp
So good! This place did not disappoint. Seating is available outside with colorful umbrellas and chairs/ tables, as well as booth seating against the inside wall. There's a small area with merchandise and prepared ice cream options in a fridge once inside. You can try any flavor before choosing, reusable spoons are provided by the nice employees behind the counter. They make their own waffles cones which are so flavorful, the smell is delicious and lingers inside. We picked double scoop with the 2 flavor option (.50 more for 2 flavor and $6.50 for double option) The ladies behind the counter were all very nice and attentive to the very full location. Ordered: honey lavender/ pear & Brie & coconut cake w/ pineapple jam/ pear & Brie *pear & Brie is amazing delicious I was sold after I sampled. Ice cream was fresh and flavorful, it's quite a treat.

Yelp
I have heard so much about Salt & Straw. I've never been, so I went today and treated myself. I went right when they opened so there wasn't a line. Damien was above and beyond helpful in helping me decide what flavors I wanted; after taste testing almost all of the flavors My favorite as was Damien's too, coffee and love nuts OMG & double fold vanilla Yum cinnamon snickerdoodle wow salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough I could've decided, so I got a double scoop and bought 4 pints to take home to share:-) I ate my double scoop in the cute little ice cream parlor very clean, relaxing great for people watching too. The manager was on site, He was very friendly & knowledgeable. I am very grateful for the service and the yummy ice cream at Salt & Straw. I look forward to seeing you guys again very soon
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
Salt & Straw serves delicious ice cream! If you're feeling adventurous, they have interesting flavors such as Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper, Pear and Blue Cheese, and Arbequina Olive Oil. They offer samples so be sure to ask for a tasting before your purchase. We opted for Coffee & Love Nuts, and it was scrumptious! The flavor was rich, and the addition of pecans gave the ice cream a nice crunch factor.
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this randomly in Little Italy and I am so glad I did! I visited a location in Portland, OR and fell in love. This location was a little bit deeper and allowed for a line. I visited in November for the Thanksgiving specials. They had these flavors last year, so not much variance. I tried Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream. Really great flavor. Everyone is super nice and they let you sample flavors. This is one of my favorite ice cream spots!
google avatar

Regine A.

Yelp
If you're looking for great quality ice cream AND unique flavors -- come here!! I've been here several times and it never disappoints. My go-to flavor is the cinnamon snickerdoodle. My favorite recent flavor has to be captain's berries treasure, which is part of their current cereal series!! I think they have monthly flavors as well. Everything made in house. They offer free samples too! I like getting a scoop in a waffle cone. Service is great and quick. Employees are friendly. Ambiance is cute and quaint. I love how it smells like fresh waffles inside lol. Not much seating inside, but there are tables outside and across the street near the fountain :)

Yelp
I have been wanting to come to this place for a long time there was always a super long line got there early so was able to get in the service was outstanding I didn't get her name but she was a beautiful girl and she was so nice I had the salted caramel and cinnamon Snickerdoodle she was able to combine you know half a scoop each in a waffle cone that they make there it was so good I so enjoyed it I will definitely be back.

Yelp
My friend recommended this ice cream shop and that it's unique for their candy / junk food like ideas. A sweet tooth's heaven. We ordered: *Off-limits Cocoa Puffs n Cold Brew in cup 《 limited edition last chance flavor as it'll be remove soon》 *Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbions in cone *2 Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge (1 cup and 1 cone) The peanut one was Vegan (great for vegans to enjoy). Ice creams was cold and sweet, perfect for a hot day.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing ice cream! Flavors are deliciously unique and the service is top notch! Don't be detoured by the long line on weekends either because they are efficient.

Yelp
We were on vacation and visited based on Yelp! reviews. It was nestled in the heart of busy Little Italy - Parking was very difficult to find, but it was worth the hassle. It appears they change flavors frequently, and the flavors are not your average ones found at a typical ice cream shop. My husband tried some sort of Chile Chocolate Peanut Butter, which he didn't care for. I tried a strawberry coconut sorbet, which I didn't care for too much. He ended up with Chocolate Brownie, which was good. I ended up with a Coffee flavored ice cream with chocolate shavings and candied pecans - it was amazing! My teenage so got a Mint Chip - I'm not a fan of mint ice cream but he liked it. My other son got Cinnamon Snickerdoodle, which was really good. The service was great! They offered small spoons to taste the flavors. Even though it was very busy, the employees were very thorough with their explanation of the flavors and patient while we tried to decide what flavor to get. The inside seating was full, so we walked to the corner and found a spot to eat our ice cream which enjoying an ocean sunset view through a sliver in between buildings. We will definitely be back there the next time we head down to San Diego.

Yelp
This is a perfect place to stop at after dinner in little Italy. I love their large selection of flavors and the staff are always happy to give a couple samples. My favorite flavor is the salted, malted, chocolate chip cookie dough! Warning, the line can be a little long on weekends but it's to be expected in the busy area.
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
A classic! Always has a long line but worth it. Yummy flavors, often very sweet though. I love how they have seasonal flavors that switch. Lots of vegan/non diary options! I love how you can sample lots of flavors, and my dog loves the pup cups too!!

Yelp
You can call me crazy. Heck... I certainly thought the 12 people in front of people were nuts... And I know for a fact that I believed the 16 people behind me were absolutely insane... But you know what, standing in the cold, at night, waiting for ice cream is perfectly normal right? Well let me tell ya... There's no wrong when it comes good, quality ice cream!! ------------------- This location is located in the heart of Little Italy and after a landing myself in a self induced 'pasta-coma', the only reasonable cure that was guaranteed to make everything better was a little scoop of ice cream. So as we patiently waited outside for the line to make its way indoors, we could only dream of the ice cream that was inside waiting for us. As we inched closer and closer to where we would place our order, my eyes lit up as I saw all the fun and interesting flavors that they offered. (But don't you fret, they absolutely encourage you to sample the flavors you are debating on prior to placing your order). You know I had to try their pear & blue cheese flavor (YOU ARE MAKING A FACE AREN'T YOU??) lol, it was actually pretty good. I also sampled their Arbequina Olive Oil flavored ice cream; also pretty awesome! Pretty sure we ended up with a scoop of Olive Oil for me and Honey Lavender scoop for the Mrs. Staff was super friendly and did a great job at keeping the never ending line flowing. Apparently, ice cream at night is the thing to do in San Diego and I was there for it! So the next time you are in S.D. and you are feeling a little crazy, nuts or even insane... Know that you are in good company.

Yelp
The most unique and extraordinary ice cream flavors I've ever seen. Just look at the menu. I wanted to stand at the counter and taste all of them. Not possible, of course, especially with the line of people waiting to be served. Good luck selecting a flavor from the dizzying array offered by Salt and Straw. 19

Yelp
I was in San Diego and craved something different. That's what I got at Salt and Straw. Classic and Limited Edition Choices I bravely tried a limited edition flavor. I was happy with the service even though there was a long line; they took the time for me to try my three choices. I went with the Goat Cheese, etc. It is a small place but also has seating outside. Parking was on the street, which was alright.

Yelp
there's always room for ice cream! We went here after dinner while we were in Little Italy! there is usually a line, but it is well worth the wait! this is probably one of the best hand served ice creams I've ever had in my life! I'm not sure the details of how they prepare their ice cream differently, but it is definitely made with a lot of tlc! the flavors are unique than most other places you will go. if you're a Little Italy and craving ice cream, I highly recommend this spot! there's limited indoor seating, but the ice cream is probably better enjoyed walking around the main little italy street.

Yelp
Y'all, I'm about to tell you something that will make you wish you were living in the 1800s. Do you know what kind of fun ice cream flavors we're missing out on? Move aside cookie dough and salted caramel, 19th-century chefs made ice cream in all kinds of flavors... like asparagus! Oysters, asparagus, and parmesan cheese were all flavors of ice cream extant in the early 1800s. Bet you'll be submitting these flavors to your nearest craft ice cream batch store now, right? I was full. I had just had an amazing seafood lunch because, hey, we're in San Diego. But because the Salt & Straw isn't open yet in Gilbert, AZ, I forced myself to walk a shop or two down and get me some ice cream. A single scoop of Pear & Blue Cheese and a single scoop of Coffee & Love Nuts were ordered between the two of us and wow. I had been the one to get the pear and blue cheese since I didn't want to stick to the vanilla flavors they had, and I won't lie, I kinda regret it. It didn't taste gross, and the blue cheese wasn't strong, but I definitely should have stuck to the sweet profile after a full meal. The cheese wasn't warranted. But that Coffee & Love Nuts though! Amazing and oh so perfect after a good meal. I was definitely jealous. I can't wait for Salt & Straw to be opening up here in Arizona. Until then, I'll be reliving my cheesy ice cream moment here. I think I must have had a past life in the 1800s to be wanting cheese in my ice cream that sunny afternoon in San Diego.

Yelp
Best ice cream shop in little Italy! Ever since I first tried salt & straw in Portland, I was hooked. The artisanal, unique flavors and texture are absolutely amazing. I love that they have seasonal flavors that rotate in addition to their tried and true staple year round flavors. Love that you can sample different flavors before making your choice. My personal favorite is the arbequina olive oil ice cream. It is the perfect sweetness with a subtle olive oil taste that is rich and coats your taste buds in luxury. I love it on a simple sugar cone for a textural difference. They have indoor seating to enjoy your ice cream whilst people watching.

Yelp
Salt and Straw excels at producing the creamiest of ice creams. The retailer also has a variety of unique, very unique flavors. While I like to venture to the unknown I would have preferred some of the basics as well. Service is friendly and the servers allow you try many samples. There can be lines which reduce the ambiance but it is worth the wait.

We lucked out with the line! The line for salt & straw is usually really long but when we got there (on a cold, windy night), there were only 2-3 groups in front of us. We were served within 5 min. They have rotating flavors as well as permanent ones and you'll definitely have a hard time choosing which ones you want (pear and blue cheese, chocolate caramel potato chip banana bread, strawberry honey balsamic w/black pepper etc). Thankfully they give samples so you can try them before you commit to your scoop(s) of the day or if you really can't decide, they have a flight too! The service is efficient, friendly and the ice cream is innovative, creamy and worth braving the cold for. No wonder everyone loves this place.

Yelp
If u haven't tried Salt & Straw you're missing out. I love how they change up their flavors with a list of changing series of flavors. If ur unsure of what flavor, try them all. U get unlimited samples. My all time fave.... "coffee love nuts"! Perfect amount of sweet coffee with shaved chocolate specks and crunchy texture from the toffee and chocolate covered nuts. Perfection.

Yelp
This place is known for their different and wild flavors. You're not going to find regular vanilla or chocolate here. On the plus side they let you sample before buying. The lavender and honey is a classic if you want something super smooth. Today went with their snickerdoodle cookie in a cone. Per usual, very tasty. Came here on a Saturday at 9:30 and the line was out the door. It's always busy so get ready for a wait. Highly recommend ordering ahead or getting a pint to skip the lines. There are a few seats inside but expect to wait in line and then bounce because the line wraps around inside. Parking is a pain cause it's little Italy but that's to be expected.

Yelp
Best way to end the night in Little Italy after dinner! Their lines are usually long on weekends but they go by fast. Workers are so friendly and I like how you are able to try samples. The kid size is the perfect size if you want something small!

Yelp
1. Items: Gingerbread cookie dough & Great cookie swap AND COCOA PERFUME! 2. Atmosphere: As if I lived inside a slightly chilled cake.... Sweet & magical 3. Parking: 0/10 ..but to be fair... its Little Italy Suggestion - Park here & walk: 715 W Cedar St, San Diego, CA 92101 (yes, it costs $) Stopped in during their most busiest evening and I inconsiderately sampled their WHOLE holiday flavor series. No regrets. I'd do it again. Whoever is mad about it is just too shy to ask for as many samples as I. Get on my level. In all seriousness though, the team at this location is consistently working their butt off to make sure every customer gets their ice cream in a timely manner. They are never not busy. This year's holiday flavors were BALLS TO THE WALL amazing. Have an open mind though, the flavor creators can get kinda edgy with their combos. Releasing new flavors every month doesn't sound easy. Will keep on coming to this location. It's the best one.

Yelp
Salt & Straw has been my go-to ice cream shop since it opened in San Diego, and I've been hooked ever since a friend from Oregon told me how amazing it was. Let me just say, they were good for it! Every trip here feels like a treat, especially since it's located in downtown Little Italy, which has such a fun day-or-night vibe that makes you feel like you're on a night out. The inside decor is adorable--a modern take on a vintage ice cream parlor, always well-organized, with the flavors clearly displayed. I love that they change the artwork every month to reflect the new flavors, and the hand-drawn designs are a fun touch. The staff is always kind and never make you feel bad about trying EVERY single flavor--even if it's all 20+ of them! Plus, the real silver spoons for sampling are such a nice eco-friendly touch. Thank you for being kind to Mother Earth, Salt & Straw! Now, for the ice cream itself. Salt & Straw turns ice cream into an art form. The flavors are so creative and unexpected, but somehow they just work. Each spoonful is an explosion of flavor, and I love the chunky ingredients they use, from local honey to real cheese from artisan farms. It's like eating a three-course meal in ice cream form, with textures and tastes that keep surprising you. What's more is they have 4 to 6 vegan flavors that are just as tasty! They always have something new for the themed flavors of the month, and for October, they even went as far as using real bugs and blood in some flavors! It's wild and so much fun. If you're an ice cream lover, you MUST visit Salt & Straw. It's an easy six stars in my book!

Yelp
I got one of the brewers series, the La Tropical's original lager with guava, and it was probably one of the best ice creams I've ever had! The flavor was really unique and even though I feel ambivalent about guava the fruit (my parents love it and grow it in their garden so I've had my fair share of guava) I didn't realize how good ice cream with guava flavor would be. Totally worth a trip!

Yelp
We're there today and wanted to share a large two scoop Ice cream with my husband for $9. Unfortunately she the server was only willing to split a single scoop for $7 and not willing to give me the second scoop. The ice cream scooper wasn't very kind and didn't accommodate my request. We left with an over priced small size ice cream cone and a sour taste in our mouth. Not recommended this place, we're not planning to go back anytime soon.

Yelp
I love this ice cream chain, this is the third state I've tried it in and it never disappoints. The rotating limited edition flavors are always a hit. The gentleman working offered me as many samples as i liked which was nice because sometimes i get shy to ask for more than 2. I tried the oatmeal cookies and milk flavor and red velvet cake flavor from the ltd lineup but To be honest, it was a little disappointing. Both felt like they didn't have a very potent strong flavor profile as some of their other options. I ended up going for the peanut brittle and salted caramel split scoop with a little party hat cone on top, my signature. Thank you!
