The Best Ice Cream Flavors in San Francisco - Eater SF

"Portland-based Salt & Straw has made a name for its zany seasonal flavors, but after customers sample the latest and strangest, they gravitate toward one local option in particular (Salt & Straw’s different West Coast locations each have many of their own flavors). San Francisco’s favorite is strawberry tres leches, which combines refreshing strawberry jam, a sweet strawberry ice cream, and tres leches-soaked sponge cake throughout." - Caleb Pershan

So yummy every time. The ice cream is so interesting with it changing every month. I would recommend that you try all the OG flavors. Then do the monthly ones after you have your baseline for every other time that you go. My face is the snickerdoodle. In the photo I have the coffee stone fruit and the banana sherbet 8.5/10

Google
Im drooling just thinking about this ice cream again. Got the gooey brownie and the salted, malted, cookie dough. The sizes were a good portion. Can definitely taste the salt in the cookie dough, which helps balance the other flavors. && brownies were gooey with a touch of fudge? Lovely.

The place on Fillmore is very clean and the smell of sweet cream just hits you like you’ve stepped into a cozy home. It smells so good! The limited edition flavors are usually good! Pretty much anything they put pepper or habanero for a kick is mouthwatering. My favorite permanent staples are the olive and honey lavender.

Tried the peanut butter and caramel flavor. Loved it. Having a vegan option which isn't just sorbets is great. Need to get another one before I leave 😆.

Google
This is honestly one of the best ice creams in San Francisco. The cones are very big and the scoops are also very big I love the cookie dough flavour. The ques are usually long, but when we wont on Saturday afternoon there was no que. The ice cream is super good and there are many options. Cone is charged separately, so add up the prices and add tax extra.

Google
I ordered the sea salt & caramel ribbon (recommended apparently) - it’s extremely sweet! I couldn’t even finish it Edit: In response to the owner’s comment, I did sample different flavours and they’re all still extremely sweet. $20 for two cones? (Including a somewhat mandatory tip as a tipping screen will be shown after you pay) Outrageous!

Google
Here you get the most experimental ice creams you can imagine. Here you have to dare to challenge your taste buds and go away without your watery chocolate ice cream. Why do you go for an ice cream with pear and blue cheese or cinnamon and honey fried chicken? Eat here if you dare!

Google
This place doesn’t diss appoint ever !! Design like any other salt and straw location . Not a lot of inside seating area. But grab your ice cream and walk those calories 😁The staff is super nice very fast service ! Great flavors - amazing flavors . Honey lavender with some goat cheese and pears combo . I know it might not sound the greatest . But their flavors are to die for. So good!

Yelp
It's always a little weird to applaud a chain, but hey, the ice cream's good and the portions are generous. Because the butter fat content is so high, it doesn't melt fast, which is always a bonus. I'm partial to the olive oil, pear & blue cheese, and honey lavender like everybody else and that's because those are great flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
Consistently creative and delicious flavors, friendly service that is happy to let you try many flavors even with long lines, and a decent amount of standing room to eat indoors during cold nights. We most recently came in early November. There was a pumpkin spice waffle cone that was fun - the pumpkin flavor came through really nicely. We tried different flavors off the Thanksgiving menu as well. The sweet potato casserole was way too sweet but the parker house rolls with butter cream was surprisingly good! Really subtle flavors that worked well with the pumpkin spice cone. Worth a try!

Yelp
Salt and straw has a wide selection of unique ice cream flavors. From Olive oil ( which is the best!!) to a brewery collab IPA ice cream, you never know what you'll find when you visit, but it'll be tasty. Lines can get long but the service is efficient. Overall, highly recommend Salt and Straw if you are visiting SF. They have some unique and great flavors. Try something new!

Yelp
Busy but worth the hype! Such great flavor choices that it was hard to pick! Hubby and I decided to share a double with salted, malted, chocolate chip cookie dough and the coffee and love nuts flavors. Both were great flavor and texture. The coffee was deep and actually tasted like coffee! Some of the best I've had. The line was long but moved quick, they had quite the system down! Seating was limited inside but we managed to snag a spot, most people were taking theres to go.

Yelp
This was my first time trying the iconic Salt & Straw. This location is in a very cute neighborhood with lots of restaurants and shops. I went on a Saturday night and the line was almost out the door. Their menu is super diverse with so many options to choose from. I love that they also have seasonal items and an almost gone menu. They even had a mac n cheese flavored ice cream and it was definitely as described. I ended up getting the cinnamon snickerdoodle and it was perfect! Super creamy and flavorful. My boyfriend got the limited edition apple pie vs pumpkin pie flavor, and it was actually very salty. We were expecting it to be sweet and fruity but we didn't really taste that. Overall, it was super cool to see what they have to offer and I'm very curious about their other flavors!

Yelp
I've always loved coming to Salt & Straws before, can't believe I never wrote a review! Came here in a Tuesday night and it was absolutely packed with a line snaking through the inside of the shop, out the door, and around the corner of the shop. Although the line was long, it went decently fast, which kept everyone in line happy. They gave a menu with the flavors on a sign outside in line so you could read the descriptions before you got to the front. There's limited seated outside (i.e. a single bench) and a couple of stools to sit inside. I did not see a bathroom for public/customer use inside. I was super excited to try their new Halloween flavors. I tried most of their monthly flavors, and the employee helping me was very cordial even though I'm sure they were tired from serving all these customers. They had so many employees serving at once just to keep up with the customers, and they worked so efficiently and kindly that I didn't feel rushed. I ended up getting a single scoop of the Jack o' Lantern Pumpkin Bread flavor. They always pack in so much ice cream into a single that it is definitely at least 2 scoops. I love how this place doesn't shot away from untraditional flavors and challenges your taste palette with interesting combinations. They were quick to get me my ice cream and checked out. The Jack o' Lantern Pumpkin Bread flavor was great! Similar to the Cinnamon Snickerdoodle flavor but with chunks of pumpkin bread, which were so yummy and interesting texturally. Salt & Straw never disappoints!

Yelp
I finally tried Salt & Straw for the first time - and they did not disappoint! After walking by the shop twice, I could no longer resist the aroma of freshly-baked waffle cones. There wasn't a line, so I stepped right up and decided to sample a couple of flavors. I immediately was drawn to blackberry birthday cake, but I also sampled the mac n'cheese flavor for fun (I think it would actually pair well with a tart, fruit flavor). I ended up ordering a waffle cone of the blackberry birthday cake, which tastes like the very best funfetti cake with tart blackberries mixed in. The cone was fresh, sturdy, and subtly sweet. The menu of flavors was shorter than I was expecting - I visited during that strange time in between seasons - but I had a good first Salt & Straw experience nevertheless. I'm looking forward to trying their flavors next season!

Yelp
Love their seasonal Apple flavors! Overall can't go wrong with salt & straw and they offer large scoops!

Yelp
I totally get the hype now that I've been here. I love the little spoon chute that you can return your spoon after you've asked for a sample, and I love the fast service. The server was more than happy to let me try samples of the different flavors! Watch out though because one of the current limited edition flavors is not vegetarian friendly! The fried chicken ice cream is made with croissants fried in chicken fat. The flavors are a total joy and unique, a total taste bud explosion. The fried chicken tasted surprisingly like chicken waffles, despite not having any actual meat in it, and the fried croissant bits were crunchy. There's not much seating inside, but we managed to snag two stools. We split a double scoop and asked to dunk the cone in a cup - the scoops are huuge, so it's definitely worth considering if you want to share a single scoop, but heck, we wanted two try more flavors. Their strawberry honey balsalmic with black pepper is a real treat, the tart of the balsalmic comes out really well, not too overpowering, and blends well with the strawberry and creaminess of the ice cream.

Yelp
Didn't take much to convert me into a die hard fan of Arbequina Olive Oil Lively place in a quiet neighborhood, perfect for a late night sweet treat. There was a line on a Sunday night around 8 pm, but it moved quickly and gave us time to examine the menu. I LOVE the unique flavor combinations and seasonal menu. The free samples are the best part--you don't need to order a whole scoop to see if you like a flavor. The staff was super friendly and patient with us, which made it a really great experience. Flavors I tried: Arbequina Olive Oil: must try if you've never had it--it's creamy, fluffy, and buttery Honey Lavender: I thought I would like this more, but lavender flavor was really strong Smoked Mac and Cheese: texture of actual pasta put me off, but not a bad concept Pink Rosé and Watermelon: fun and fruity, flavors weren't super intense Can't wait to come back to try the rest of their menu!!

Yelp
The delicious smell of waffle cones drew me into Salt & Straw after dinner. I got the salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in a waffle cone. I really liked the cookie dough pieces and the scoop was super big! Not much for report here. Just good ice cream. I liked that this spot had a ton of unique and seasonal flavors. I tried the strawberry balsamic and apple pie pumpkin pie which were unique and I've never had before! I'm docking a star because of the interaction I had with the ice cream scooper person. She seemed really annoyed that I asked for a sample lol I was trying to move quickly since there was a line but just wanted to try 2 things before deciding Anyway I'd come back again to try more of the unique ice cream

Yelp
Went around 8 pm on a Friday and even though it was cold, the line was out the door. One of my favorite places to get ice cream in the city with their unique flavors and we sampled some of their new summer picnic series like the mac and cheese. Arbequina Olive Oil - The flavor that my sister and I get every time. It is a light flavor but has the best balance of sweetness mixed with the buttery olive oil. The ice cream itself is so smooth and creamy. Some other flavors that I enjoy pairing with the one above is Honey Lavender, Pear & Blue Cheese and Strawberry Honey Balsamic w/ Black Pepper. All the flavors I've had are never too sweet and well balanced. Definitely a place worth checking out for a tasty dessert.
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
Classic ice cream stop. They always have so many unique flavors and rotate the menu often. When I went recently they were doing a cereal series, so they had a lucky charms inspired flavor, as well as cornflakes & Reese's pb puff inspired flavors. The lucky charms one tasted exactly like a bowl of lucky charms in milk! I opted for the limited edition/last chance scoop of sweet potato pie almond streusel flavor. It had huge chunks of sweet potato (almost like pumpkin?) pie and a nice sweet cinnamon flavor -- it was so good!! The waffle cone here is also a must get -- so buttery and crunchy and pairs perfectly with the ice cream. The service here is really good -- the staff is friendly, the line moves fast, and they let you sample as many flavors as you want. Definitely recommend making a stop here on a hot day and walking around pac heights to enjoy the ice cream!

Yelp
Knocks it out of the park again! The creativity and boldness of flavors is what makes salt and straw continue to be my top ice cream shop. The cinnamon and honey fried chicken may sound off putting but it's so good I walked out with a scoop when I wasnt planning on getting anything. The mac and cheese was interesting..a little more savory for my liking. Their seasonal flavors always do it for me!!
google avatar

Reema G.

Yelp
Nice little spot for ice cream, the line to get in can sometimes get pretty long and then once inside, there isn't much room to sit/stand. There were definitely some unique flavored ice creams, like mac and cheese. We were definitely not that adventurous and decided to go with sour cherry pie and another one that was banana flavored. Definitely a cool place to check out for unique ice cream flavors
google avatar

Pascale S.

Yelp
We love Salt & Straw!! Every month we look out for the new flavors from them. This time we got to try the Halloween flavors, the pumpkin bread was delicious. The workers are always really friendly and looking to help as soon as there is an open spot in line. They never hesitate to let us try as many flavors as we want before we pick what we want. Wish there was more indoor or outdoor seating but the store is quite small.

Yelp
Vanilla is my favorite ice cream flavor. I believe Vanilla is underrated. Vanilla ice cream is the canvas of many of my favorite ice cream combinations. This brings me to find the best Vanilla ice cream flavor I ever had " The Double Fold Vanilla" at Salt & Straw. Being Vanilla at Salt & Straw is a good problem to have.
google avatar

Catalina L.

Yelp
Seasonal flavors for Salt and Straw -- mixed offerings but nice you can sample and they use metal spoons instead of plastic! Friendly staff 5/5 - Mom's Mango Pie was very mango fruity and delicious with pie crust texture inside the scoop I tried two other flavors too: 1. Parker House Rolls w/ Salted Buttercream -- not a lot of flavor so it's a light ice cream, and bread pieces were a little weird. At this rate get more flavorful vanilla ice cream 2. Dairy-free Chocolate Plum & Hazelnut Shortbread -- only saw available at this location. It tasted more spiced like clove/cinnamon and pretty strong. Not very chocolatey There also look to be new offerings of ice cream cakes!

Yelp
Perfect weather for Salt & Straw ice cream (September)! Now that the Fall flavors are out, grab something with Pinot, Beecher's cheese with Apple (aka Seattle source) or seasonal plum with chocolate. Yum!
google avatar

Yelp
Super yummy ice cream with traditional, and not so traditional flavors. Friendly, fast service, and they have non dairy ice cream for your pups too!

Yelp
I love this place and it's usually so busy. There's usually a wait in the line. However, today we walked in we were the first fourth at the counter yahoo. So by the time we got our items that whole situation and changed her head to be 50 people online waiting to get their ice cream. Just to let you know we cannot eat a meal and San Francisco without dessert at Sal and straw. This place is our go to place from here on. The food was amazing and we enjoyed every bit of it. I ordered two full scoops in a cup with a cone on the side because I sort of like to break it and put ice cream bites on the top and eat them like an ice cream sandwich that's my thing.everything you ordered. I just absolutely loved their product. Very wholesome. The staff is always friendly and willing to help you and very courteous and samples are no problem. Enjoy their inventive flavors that you don't find other places. I had the double scoop cup with my cone on the side. It was perfect.
google avatar

Crystal L.

Yelp
The service is really great here when you come in they have someone who comes up to you and asks for which flavors you wanna try and you can try a multitude of flavors. I got the same cookie dough and coffee. they have special edition flavors that were great as well. My friend got the pumpkin tiramisu flavor and if you like pumpkin spice it's a great option. However, the flavors are really unique so if you're looking for some classic ice cream, this is not a spot for the price.
google avatar

Serena L.

Yelp
Been wanting to try their ice cream since forever since I've heard a lot of good things! Honey lavender - 4/5, my sister always said this was good, so of course I had to get a scoop of this. It lives to its name, and wasn't overpoweringly sweet. Baked brie and fig cheesecake - 5/5, cheesecake flavored ice cream with small chunks of cheesecake, brie, and fig. This was the most appealing flavor on the limited edition menu, and was my absolute favorite. I'm always a sucker for cheesecake ice cream, but this took it to the next level. I wasn't sure how big their portions were and was intrigued by their limited edition flavors, so I decided to get two scoops on a whim. Little did I know that they would be so big! Two scoops was way more than enough for 3 people to share.
google avatar

RJ A.

Yelp
Simply our, Salt & Straw does ice cream incredibly well! It never misses. I went experimental when I tried the strawberry balsamic, it was tangy, tart, and interesting! It was too overpowering for my partner but I thought it was just right. The peanut butter brittle caramel flavor is spectacular. It's creamy, crunchy, and salty and takes you on a trip for each bite.
google avatar

Lauren Y.

Yelp
I love love love Salt & Straw and coming to try the new specialty flavors every month! My go-tos are always the Sea salt and caramel ribbon with vanilla or the ooey gooey brownie. Their seasonal summer berry flavor "marionberry habanero goat cheese" has to be one of my favorite flavors and was the first flavor I ever got at Salt and Straw when I first moved to the city. I have to say every time I go to the Fillmore location though I'm always super anxious because the service isn't good. Consistently I've come to this location and I feel like the workers do not want to be there! It's too bad because ice cream is seems like one of the most fun / low stress jobs to have- everyone is happy to see you. I've often felt rushed (despite asking to sample never more than 2 of the seasonal flavors to be mindful of the line) have never been greeted with a smile, and still end up tipping 20% at the register. The Hayes Valley employees definitely seem happier and nicer, it's just further away from me. I hope they can take this point of feedback because it definitely puts a damper on the experience. I've consulted my friends about this too and they've also shared similar sentiments about the customer service.

Kassidy W.

Yelp
Flavors are unique and it's such amazing quality. The Salted, Malted, Cookie Dough is absolutely fantastic, our favorite we tried. Next favorite was the double folded vanilla. Thirdly we tried the banana bread potato chip flavor which was good! Maybe a bit heavy on the banana bread chunks. Our least favorite this trip was the pear blue cheese. It was honestly really good--but VERY heavy on the blue cheese chunks. The bites that had a small bit of blue cheese was great--but at times it felt there was a mouthful of it. Price is great for how much they give you
google avatar

John Z.

Yelp
Highly recommend the double. It is only $2 more, but you get two balls. Each of them is exactly same big as the single. I also like the drink water they offered.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Get here for this Christmas special, Spiked Eggnog! Delicious! And no line this afternoon!
google avatar

Randy F.

Yelp
People line up for the ice cream , and I'm one of them. They always have more than one delicious vegan option as well!
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
Feels like this place is a monthly staple in our lives with the ever rotating monthly flavors. Our personal favorite is the berry month in the summer and the cinnamon snickerdoodle off the year round menu. Staff is always friendly and vibes are great! Never disappoints for a fun post dinner treat with friends or to cap off a date night.

Cat C.

Yelp
I ordered The Cake from this location. It's a whopper of a cake, about 5.5 lbs and serves 20 people! Pretty, tasty, and refreshing although it is packaged differently from other cakes. It's in a rectangular box, (to keep shape!?) which you can tear away pieces from!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
The type of ice cream parlor you don't dare think about price, cuz they are high, but the quality and services is outstanding. The combinations of intriguing and tasty choices is beyond what most can imagine. And not to worry tastings are free. But taste fast the the line moves quickly. I had a toffee, chocolate, peanut butter combo. I got a epic sugar rush. The servings are generous, it is worth a try and I couldn't help notice the other customers choices because they are were just downright beautiful with swirls of creamy, magical combinations of delectible delight. Seek this place out.

Yelp
Huge fan of Salt & Straw!! My bf and I have come here a couple times while roaming pac heights and have loved our ice cream experience. The flavor options are unique but always a hit, so don't be scared to try something out of your comfort zone...odds are you will love it and if you don't, try another flavor! I really liked their malted cookie dough and my bf got the honey lavender this past weekend. Both were delicious but I still dream of the pumpkin pie and goat cheese flavor I got last fall -- it was spectacular with pieces of pumpkin custard and creamy goat cheese cheesecake ice cream...YUM! I have gotten the kids scoop every time I come and it is plenty huge. If you like cones, their waffle cones always smell heavenly and look super good so I would try one. Check this place out if you are visiting or a local, it will not disappoint!
google avatar

Yelp
Salt & Straw has always been a classic ice cream stop in any area, and there's a good reason for it! Located walking distance from Japantown, it's the perfect dessert stop that is fortunately open relatively late for the Bay Area! Once you enter the establishment, they always have friendly employees ready to greet you and offer you free samples. You can feel free to try as many of the flavors, especially the seasonal ones! There's usually a long line that goes outside the place, but that goes to show how popular they are! But don't worry, although the line can seem intimidating, it's usually relatively quick I'm typically a creature of habit who loves ordering the same item anywhere I go. But Salt & Straw is different because they have both a set menu as well as a seasonal one. This time I got the Arbequina Olive Oil, and before you start judging, trust me it's worth a try! I was skeptical at first, but somehow the olive oil flavor gives the ice cream a deeper flavor which is a nice addition to the vanilla notes! Although I do recommend sticking with a single scoop as it can get really heavy / salty overtime. Overall, I highly recommend checking out Salt & Straw for your next dessert stop!
google avatar

Yelp
Salt & Straw has become an integral part of life in San Francisco (I previously lived in Portland and was a regular there, so I was over the moon when they expanded to California locations). 5/5 for the service - They allow and even promote unlimited samples each visit, and the staff is friendly and nonjudgemental when you *hypothetically* request to try every seasonal flavor which rotates each month. For showing extra enthusiasm over the flavors, I've even received free scoops on the house on a few occasions. Each visit feels like an outing and special experience. 5/5 for the flavors - My absolute favorite is CINNAMON SNICKERDOODLE (this store must've taken my relentless feedback into account, as it finally became a permanent flavor). Runner up flavors (note that I'm more of a traditional dessert person rather than adventurous or floral): - Gingerbread Cookie Dough - Chocolate Gooey Brownie - Salted, Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Still my favorite ice cream in San Francisco (and admittedly have tried almost all of them).

Yelp
Looking for some late night ice cream? Then this is your spot. Salt & Straw is a staple ice cream shop in all of the Bay area, and this one is no exception. It's open late and perfect for dessert in the Filmore/Japantown area. When you walk in, you're hit with the scent of fresh waffle cones being made and workers who are super attentive. The workers will give you as many samples as you want and recommendations based on flavors that you normally like. Some flavors that I highly recommend are their honey lavender and their olive oil. The olive oil sounds weird, but it actually tastes like a honey vanilla with a hint of olive oil and it just works. A super unique flavor for sure. Honey lavender is great if you like more floral flavors. Something to note is that their single scoops are huge and are similar to a double at most other ice cream shops. Because of this, I sometimes struggle to even finish a single scoop. Overall, if you're looking for some ice cream at any time of the day, I highly recommend coming here. Solid ice cream with great service.

Yelp
I'm not a California native, so maybe I don't quite get the hype behind salt and straw. I got a kids size caramel scoop, and the ice cream was good but nothing out of the world. I sampled a few of their seasonal flavors, but nothing really caught my eye. I like unique ice cream flavors, and was a bit disappointed at the limited selection. But overall good quality ice cream!
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Ice cream 5 stars Service 0 stars The best vegan and non-vegan ice cream. The vegan stands out since it's not heavy like some other vegan ice creams. Super rude staff at this location - have not had this issue at their other locations.

Johnathan

Yelp
So i guess management is cutting back on scoop sizes? I ordered a DOUBLE SCOOP and literally got what seemed like HALF A SCOOP. I Ended up requesting a refund because it felt like i got scammed (i didnt eat any of the icecream). I asked if I could just get a little more and was told they could not do anything about it. I've been to salt and straw over 100 times and have only had issues at this location

Yelp
I consider myself very lucky. We didn't have to wait. Maybe because it was almost 10 pm on a Sunday night. We needed some dessert after a great Korean meal. The got some of the rotating flavors. My son had the gooey brownie chocolate. I loved my strawberry banana bread ice cream, but I know I would of been happy with whatever I got. It smells so good in there with all the delicious waffle cones they are making. Will definitely go back. It's just so hard with all the good choices there are in the city.
google avatar

Lan N.

Yelp
I love the smell of ice cream shops. It's that sugary, vanilla, and various other fragrances that soothes my soul. I was very full from lunch but I knew I still had room for ice cream. I should have asked for samples, but my go to is always mint ice cream. I got the peppermint cocoa and freckled mint chocolate chip on a waffle cone. One scoop is huge. I liked that the cocoa from the peppermint cocoa isn't too powerful and hits you in the face with chocolate flavors. The peppermint is subtle. I liked the freckled min chocolate chip more. I like the bits of chocolate chips that isn't too big of a chunk but the thinner layer chocolate kind. I liked that both ice cream isn't overly sweet. The ice cream is rich, but not overly rich that you get sick of it after a few bites. Hoping they would bring salt & straw to the Midwest (Chicago).

Yelp
"Oh, How About Some Coffee Or, You Know, Drinks Or Dinner, A Movie For As Long As We Both Shall Live?" Dear the Ebb and Flow of Life, I've been to Salt & Straw on Fillmore several times, however on my latest visit it included an Ice Cream date with my Besties. Two beautiful ladies who I have bonded with deeply. It's that Je ne sais quoi, that special something, I don't find with just anyone. Enough of my emotional self lol... we rendezvous early evening to get our sweets on! Nothing's better than sharing this cosmic journey with my two sweeties! We enter with no one in line as we all sample several types of flavors. I wasn't blown away with the newer flavors so decide quickly on the Salt & Straw Classics, Cold Brew Coffee Cashew Praline & Freckled Mint Chip my choices in a waffle cone. My besties sampling away lol! Hey, I don't blame them since Salt & Straw is super cool with unlimited samplings. We all decide on split scoops and let me tell ya... a split scoop is considered one scoop of two flavors (or a single if you prefer) and the scoops are ginormous! I was tempted on two scoops until one of my besties, also the Duchess of Salt & Straw, reminded me of the G-size! Besties decide on their flavors after a good chunk of taste testings! You go! I wait with my cone, hoping it doesn't melt in like a minute, my besties know how my Ice Cream always, I do mean ALWAYS, melts faster than everyone else! What's up with that?! As I explain humbly it's only because I'm so fricken HAWT! LOL! We take a bunch of pics, before licking away, and sure enough as my Ice Cream starts the melt dance on me! We walk, we talk, we lick, we sit, we hug, we hold, we giggle, we love. And that's why these two lovely ladies are in my cosmic life... we're not into the drama, but living life to the fullest, being there for each other on sour days, and sweet days. This is why I love them... The End. Updated Review 4.5-stars rounding up to 5.0-stars and the perfection is due to the company I keep!

Yelp
Must visit when in SF!!! Amazing ice cream, quick and friendly service. Lots of vegan and non-vegan options too.

Yelp
Salt and straw is a fan favorite, it can arguably be one of the best in the Bay Area. However, I can't get over some of the flavors sometimes. I usually like to stick to the basics: lavender or sea salt caramel ribbons. Both of which are good options. I guess it's a preference. There is usually a line after dinner and during busy hours, but it does go by quickly. They tend to have a couple of quick scoopers when the rush comes. We took our ice cream to go because we wanted to take a walk and explore the streets of Fillmore. I've been to multiple locations, and will continue to come to check out their interesting flavors.

Yelp
What's not to love about Salt and Straw? I always like to check out the seasonal flavors and I really enjoyed the winter Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache. Note: For the single scoop, you can choose 2 flavors, but they will charge you a little extra for that.

Yelp
Craving something sweet and delicious! Make a trip to Salt & Straw! Parking can be a bit tricky in this busy area of town but be patient bc the wait is worth it! There was a little bit of a line that wrapped around the store but it was prime time (post-dinner crowd). Some of the flavor options were unique (veggie flavors) and others were more traditional. The line moved quickly and the staff did a great job getting our orders. My family of four ordered the following: - Honey Lavender - Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip (v) - Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - Marionberry Coconut Sherbet (v) *West Coast Exclusive I was not craving a HUGE scoop, so I got the kids scoop! It was PERFECT. My honey lavender was extremely DELICIOUS! My kids loved the mint chocolate chip and cookie dough. My husband truly enjoyed his marionberry coconut sherbet (vegan and was outstanding). There is a small space to eat your ice cream inside with a few stools. Free water to drink with cups as well. Loved that you can also purchase pints of ice cream (to go) in their fridge. Can't wait to come back here! Thanks for a wonderfully yummy experience.

Yelp
More ice cream shops should sell "ice cream flights" where each scoop comes in their own individual bento compartment. Much better to enjoy than when they're all stacked in a cup or cone. And the flavors, wow, so high quality! Chocolate Gooey Brownie: I can see why this is part of the permanent collection. Reminiscent of a Ben & Jerry's pint because of the nice mix-ins, but better than any B&J I've ever had. It's got brownie pieces, but they're like super gooey brownie pieces not that stale dry kind you usually get in ice cream. And the chocolate ice cream base is delicious. I don't like most chocolate ice cream because it usually tastes grainy (cocoa power?), but theirs was smooth and rich like they might have melted real chocolate in it. Pistachio Rose Water w/ Strawberry Mochi: Like regular pistachio ice cream, but with some personality. The rose water gives it a fresh floral tone, that kinda dominates. Reminds me of Middle Eastern desserts. And the strawberry mochi cake adds a nice chewy texture. Saffron & Honey w/ Crystalized Flower Petals: Wasn't a fan. And I am a fan of saffron, even in sweet desserts like Indian barfis. But it felt like they went a little overboard with saffron, when subtlety would have been better. Couldn't even taste the little flower petals, though I did see them. Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough: Familiar, since I love cookie dough ice cream. But even better since there were ribbons of caramel too and I love caramel! Perhaps one of the more "basic" flavors I tried here, but sometimes being basic is good.

Yelp
Quick Summary: - A hefty scoop of ice cream - one scoop stuffs the whole cup - Lines goes swiftly - Not much seating place, saw around three chairs alongside the window This is my first visit to Salt and Straw, so I hope tot visit it more to try more flavors. So far I only tried one flavor and it was good. I tried the flavor, that stood out the most for me: strawberry honey with balsamic vinegar and pepper. When I tried it, my tastebuds reacted to the fresh and sour balsamic vinegar with the mix of strawberry. I tasted the honey once but it never arrived to my palette after that. Every spoonful I tasted the balsamic vinegar and strawberry combination, and I love sour foods, so this was a pleasant scoop of ice cream. I didn't taste pepper however. Interesting note, but when my relative tried my ice cream, they tasted honey and didn't taste the vinegar. They don't eat much sour foods but they love honey. I thought it was a unique experience to see the different taste buds respond to the same ice cream flavor.

Yelp
Today's visit was my second and probably won't be my last! The first time, I had the sea salt with caramel ribbons and the cold brew coffee cashew praline and they were both rich and delicious. Today, I had the strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper and the marionberry coconut sherbet; both were also delicious. When I went in, I was hoping for something lighter like a fruit sorbet of some sort, but all their flavors are unique and rich with nothing very light. You can get two different flavors in a small and, with the richness of the ice cream and even the sherbet, a small is definitely enough. I couldn't really say I tasted much strawberry, balsamic, or black pepper flavor in that choice, but both the marionberry and coconut came through in that flavor. Great treat for one of the rare hot days in SF!
